I've been on a best popcorn chicken quest, mainly in the San Gabriel Valley where there are a plethora of boba shops that also serve snacks. I thought I would give a place closer to me a try. I ordered the popcorn chicken and squid balls (yup, that's a thing). I ordered both spicy. Popcorn chicken was well-seasoned and had a nice kick, but not very spicy. It was pretty dry, so won't order again. Popcorn chicken should be made only with marinated chicken thighs and still succulent after frying. Almost any popcorn chicken I've had made with chicken breast is so dry and not palatable. The batter was less light and crunchy and more a coating of seasoned flour. The squid balls were more successful. It was more like a fish cake with bits of squid mixed in. Seasoning is the same as the popcorn chicken, but was more moist and edible for me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Both would have tasted better right away, but the place is small and it was full with young, pre-teens on their own who were jumping up and down noisily and even standing on the chairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] So, not someplace I would choose to linger. read more

Always a family favorite whenever we're in La Crescenta. The only boba place in LA country that can seem to make a proper Matcha Snow. I love how this place feels family owned. La Crescenta has seen many boba places come and go, but 5.2 Patio has always been my go-to spot for boba and a light, savory snack. My favorite order is the peach-lychee snow with boba, which is a really yummy, not too sweet flavor combination. I would give this place 5 stars, except the last couple of times I got their popcorn chicken, the chicken tasted quite stringy and too salty. Came across this place. A nice hidden gem in La Cresenta, it's in the same plaza as the Vons. I got their matcha green tea snow with boba, crispy chicken medium spice level, and their fried calamari. The flavor on the matcha snow was full matcha flavor and creamy with soft, yet sweet chewy boba. I love the batter they use for their fried munchies. A tempura batter, not too greasy, yet light with a hint of salt. Most places I've gone too they use too much batter and it's overly salty. Plus most places only has fries. I'll definitely be coming back here when I get a chance. read more

Was looking for a refreshing drink after a hot day walking around Descanso Gardens. I found 5.2 Patio through Yelp and was excited to give it a try. Their menu was incredible! I love all of the different drink and "add-in" options. They have snow, tea, smoothies, coffee, slushes and more! My favorite thing about this place was that they are able to take down the sweetness of any drink by the percentage of your choosing. I love boba, but so often it's overly sweet. I was so happy that I got to enjoy my favorite Taro flavor while cutting down on the sugar. I gave it 4 stars because we did end up waiting a while for our beverages. They only had one employee working, and our drinks ended up sitting behind the counter out of reach while the person was ringing up other customers. They do have a kitchen that prepares hot food, so the one employee was making the drinks, running orders to the kitchen and ringing people up. Wouldn't recommend going here if you are in any sort of rush. If I am in the area anytime soon, I would stop by here again to try another one of their drinks :) read more

This is the first time I've ever been disappointed in 5.2 and I have been coming here for years (since I was in middle school). I haven't been back often since I was away at college but the quality and portion sizes have taken a hit since I was last here. Let's start with the good - the boba is still good and the variety of flavors is still one of the reasons I keep coming back. Another reason was for the popcorn chicken but now I'm starting to rethink that part. Now being sold for almost $6 (FOR THE SNACK) the popcorn chicken price has increased AND the size dramatically decreased. You used to get a small brown bag with enough to match the price but now it's this small cup that has maybe 4 or 5 bites. Hate the new packaging too because it condensates when you close the lid so now the chicken is just soggy (unless you order right then and there). Also, I called to pick up an order IN 20 minutes. Which in my head means, make the order closer to pick up time so the customer receives it fresh. Not make it as soon as the customer hangs up and let it sit on the counter until they come in 20 minutes. Which is exactly what happened. All in all, I'm just upset about the quality, price, and quantity of the popcorn chicken. IMO it used to be the best priced thing on the menu, worth the walk or the drive, but now I might have to ever forget my favorite hometown snack because of this experience. They have the best boba because they are BIG, CHEWY, COLD, and they give a lot! Other boba places have warm, soft, tapioca and that is just not my jam. Orders: (You can mix flavors if you want) + Fruit smoothie with boba (I have done all combos among strawberry, peach, mango, +Snow with boba (strawberry, peach, mangos taste so good in the Snow option!!! I LOVE their Taro Snow! +Dumplings/ Potstickers. SO GOOD!!! They give a teriyaki sauce with it and pairs so well. +Spicy Chicken Snack. I recommend trying! +Bulgogi Plate. Very filling and delicious. Meat is cooked perfectly. They served fresh rice, bulgogi on top, salad on the side, and Potsticker but I substituted the veg with more potstickers bc they are so good! Not bad. There aren't many boba options around this area, and this place makes it decent, compared to what's available nearby. They have a ton of artificial flavored powdered drinks but they also have a few smoothie drinks made from real fruit, which is my default option in this situation. The squid balls are good. Delicious boba with tons of choices and a totally friendly staff. When you order 25% sweet it's the perfect blend of flavor and taste. They apologized for not having mini pearls but the regular pearls were fine and didn't clog the straw. They even let you know the local favorites to help you choose. Mediocre but will satisfy your craving. Stopped here after a hike for a snack, it's in the Vons lot next to a bank & a tutoring center. Parking is easy, you walk in & order at the kiosk. The jasmine tea had good flavor but it was too watery & I also thought the boba was too hard and didn't taste like much. The crispy chicken was ok, pretty small portion & even though I got extra spicy it wasn't spicy at all, it was a little bland. My bubbly boyfriend got the brown sugar milk tea & liked it more than mine, so maybe opt for that. Glad this place is in la crescenta, my teens love getting boba. Stopped in to get something for my teens, spend abt $25, than i decided to add a drink for my self. She told me since my add was under $5 she would charge me 50cents for credit cards. I hate using credit card for less than $20 since i know creditcard charge sucks for business~ so gave her $100 bill but they had no change.. hmmm... so i have to use cradit card, and she would have to charge me 50cents, unless i upgrade to a drink over $5. It's a great little spot for all your boba cravings. They have all the different drink options you'd expect such as milk teas, flavored tea, blended snow, etc. They are fast with your drink order and everything I've tried has been good. if you are feeling adventurous try the cookies and cream flavor. Each drink will run you about about $4 - 5. If you want some food, you should really try the crispy chicken. It's a Taiwanese style popcorn chicken that is a real treat. I only like 2 boba places and now i have 3! I ordered the green tea with boba, no ice (I want to taste the tea, I don't like my tea watered down) and 50% sugar, next time I will try the 25% sugar. I can really taste the green tea and the boba was soft and chewy. It's also close to my sisters house so it's nice that we don't have to drive too far just to get our boba fix. The price is reasonable because the drink includes the boba. Additional add ins are 50 cents each. They have an extensive menu, so many to choose from. Most of the boba places are kind of the same, but both me and my nephew thought that 5.2 Patio was better. As you walk in, the signage is kind of intereesting In particular, there boba balls taste better and are a little more chewier. More places should use their recipe. Yup, this place has still got it! I think 5.2 Patio will forever be my favorite boba spot. I finally took the plunge and ordered take out for lunch. They have a short menu but for $8.00 you get a very fulfilling meal. I would recommend the Korean BBQ plate, which came with rice, a side salad, 2 dumplings and some jalapeños. Boba is definitely nice and chewy. I've had milk tea and peach tea. I've asked to adjust the sweetness of the peach tea because I don't like it too sweet. They put 50% sweetener but it was still on the sweeter side for my taste. I like that they have snacks available. I enjoy their sour cream and onion fries very much as their fries don't get stale too quickly and you can taste the flavoring.
