After being floored by the gorgeous flowers and plants in the nursery, we stumbled upon the café. We were greeted promptly, seated quickly, and enjoyed their beautiful outdoor patio. The weather was perfect, and the ambiance was incredible. We ordered the rotisserie chicken pizza and the banana bread French toast. The pizza was amazing! I want to start by saying that we've been coming to this establishment for many years, which makes it even more disappointing to see it continue to decline with each visit. When we arrived, we were seated quickly with no reservation and no wait, which was the highlight of the experience. Unfortunately, everything went downhill from there. Our server introduced himself, but communication was difficult throughout the meal. We ordered drinks and asked for a few minutes to review the menu. When we asked what the soup of the day was, he initially told us clam chowder, then immediately said he needed to go find out. More than 10 minutes later, he returned, and when we asked again, he admitted he had forgotten and left once more. After another lengthy wait, he finally informed us the soup of the day was split pea. We then attempted to order a pizza and were told that pizzas could not be ordered until 10:30 a.m. At the time, it was only around 9:30 a.m. I decided to order the Peach & Prosciutto Flatbread appetizer instead, only to be told that couldn't be ordered either because it was made in the oven. None of this was communicated when we were first seated, nor was it noted on the menu. It makes little sense to open at 9:00 a.m. while offering guests a menu containing multiple items that aren't actually available for another hour and a half. Had this been clearly explained from the beginning, it would have saved a great deal of frustration. By this point, I was hot, irritated, and no longer interested in ordering food. Had we not already received our drinks, I likely would have left. The other members of our party ordered the $21 breakfast burrito and the $25 smoked prime rib sandwich. Both were extremely mediocre for the price. The burrito was wrapped in a corn tortilla rather than a flour tortilla, had already come unrolled, and quickly became a messy, difficult to eat disaster. The prime rib sandwich was served on very dry bread and lacked flavor. Neither dish justified the premium pricing. The dining environment was equally disappointing, there were flies everywhere. We spent much of the meal swatting flies away from our food and ourselves, making it nearly impossible to relax or enjoy the experience. Management should seriously consider addressing this issue with proper fly traps or Quikstrike. After our food arrived, our server never returned to check on us, ask how the meal was, or offer water refills. When the bill was finally brought out, we waited another 10+ minutes before he returned to process payment. By then, we simply wanted to leave. What was most noticeable was how many people were waiting for tables while service moved at an incredibly slow pace. Faster, more attentive service would have allowed tables to turn over more efficiently and reduced wait times for other guests. Overall, this was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had here. Between the poor communication, lack of attentiveness, unavailable menu items, mediocre food, uncomfortable dining conditions, and excessive wait times, the value simply isn't there anymore. We left feeling frustrated and disappointed. The service we received warranted a $0 tip, and for the first time, we're questioning whether we'll ever return. read more

Recently saw photos of this place all over social media and knew it had to go on the list. Being that it was our first time I was so nervous about if you needed a reservation and how busy they would be. They were able to get us a table outside under the heating lamps in about a half hour. The food was fresh, flavorful and hot! I got the Smoked Brisket Hash with a side buttermilk biscuit and the seasonal spritz to drink. My date got to the banana bread french toast. I enjoyed my meal and the date enjoyed theirs as well. Staff were super friendly, they answered questions as well as made recommendations. Next time I would like to get there earlier or make a reservation as to sit inside. I did notice outside they had a counter top and stools where they do wood fired pizza, and would like to try that sometime too. The aesthetics here are gorgeous. It is nestled in high hand nursery and the live plants really do make the restaurant beautiful. I came on a busy weekend and waited 40 minutes for a table. It didn't feel that long because I was able to browse for a new plant while waiting. I had the pretzel 9/10. The beer cheese wasn't as strong as I would have liked it but it tasted delish. Such a beautiful spot for lunch or brunch with built in garden and shopping--it doesn't get much better than that! I had been hearing about this place for years but it's honestly better than the hype. The dining area is like a large greenhouse/patio with a nearby koi pond, adjacent to the nursery, providing even more lush greenery. The cafe menu includes some starters like homemade potato chips, sandwiches, salads and soups, as well as fun mocktails and delicious desserts. There is a wonderful art gallery on site, as well as a garden shop, boutique and brewery. We wanted to check this cafe out because it also has a nursery. We came on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. RSVP is highly recommended. The couple in front of us was given an hour wait time. The food was good but the service was top notch! Our server Logan was attentive and kind. The staff refilling water and tea didn't miss a beat. We were surrounded by beautiful plants and trees. The High Hand grounds include a full plant nursery, boutique shops, an art gallery, a brewery, and the cafe itself, so it's not just a meal, it's an experience. I ordered from the lunch menu and had the tri-tip sandwich, cooked perfectly with a buttery, smoky flavor balanced by avocado and a rich bleu cheese sauce. Every bite delivered and the portion was adequate. We started with mesquite chips and artichoke dip, which were absolutely delicious. But the true star of the meal was the house-made potato salad. It had dill and sweet pickles folded into a perfectly seasoned potato slaw. I'll definitely be back to try their brunch and explore more of the lunch menu. The wait was about 40 minutes, but there's so much to see while you wait. When your table is ready, they text you, which makes it easy to explore the grounds without hovering around the host stand. I'm giving this three stars mainly because of the front-of-house experience. We came for Sunday brunch and were quoted a 1-1.5 hr wait, which we were fine with. However, the hostess's attitude made the wait frustrating. She gave vague answers while looking visibly annoyed, avoided eye contact, and often sighed or rolled her eyes when guests asked about wait times. After the initial 1.5 hours had passed, someone from our group checked in and she sounded irritated just being asked for an update. We also had a child scrape his hand, and while I thought about asking for a Band-Aid, watching her interact with other guests made it clear it probably wasn't worth it, so we went back to our car for first aid. I understand it was a very busy day, but this is the first interaction guests have, and it really sets the tone of the rest of the meal. Once we were seated, the experience improved significantly. The setting is lovely, with gardens, a greenhouse, and a koi pond that makes waiting more enjoyable. The servers were friendly and helpful, made good recommendations, and everyone in our group enjoyed their food. Drinks were delicious too. Overall, the food, service, and atmosphere were excellent, but the hostess experience was disappointing enough to bring the rating down. First time at High Hand Café and I'm really glad we made a reservation for a Saturday morning at 9am because this place gets packed. Parking was easy, but finding the café was part of the experience since you walk through the nursery before reaching the restaurant. The hostess greeted us right away and service was excellent from start to finish. We had the breakfast burrito and eggs Benedict. I ordered the garden Benedict and added bacon, which was a great call. The Benedict was good. The burritos were decent, probably around a 3.5 out of 5, but the potatoes were solid. Espresso was exactly what you would expect, simple and well done. The ambience is what really makes this place special. It feels like you are dining inside a bright, open greenhouse surrounded by plants and flowers. Tons of natural light, greenery everywhere, and just a really cool, relaxed vibe. Easily one of the more unique cafés in the Placer County area. After eating we walked around the nursery, which has a koi pond, beautiful plants, a great succulent selection, and a few little shops tucked throughout. Food was good, don't get me wrong, but not worth all the hype surrounding the tons of egg benedict reviews and at the price point compared to others similar. We've had much better egg benedict worth around the same price, if not cheaper. Was also shocked when pancakes for $17 only included 2 pancakes, not even blueberry pancakes were available per our server. Pancakes were medicore.. we've had better from mom and pops breakfast joints. Breakfast burrito was subpar compared to other Mexican spots. Crab cakes were decent, but not anything special nor at the level of other steakhouses at the same price point. This eatery is wonderful for any occasion if you're looking for gorgeuous surroundings, especially with incredible greenery all around. Just don't expect much from the food. We were told the wild hibiscus sparkler was popular and tasty so we went with it instead of the classic mimosas. We beg to differ.. should've stuck to the original plan with mimosas! We went on a busy day for brunch and expected to wait. It was about a 45 minute wait but there is a bunch to do while waiting. We sat inside and it was a bit warm. The crab cakes were amazing and I would get them again. I got the goat cheese pizza and someone else got the pepperoni pizza and we were all really underwhelmed with the flavor. The crust was good but the flavor was not there so we asked for balsamic vinegar and that did help a bit. Someone got the salmon bowl and loved it. This is absolutely one of the cutest diner/café/stores/gardens that I've been to, all in one. If I were hosting family, I would absolutely take them here because there is so much to do and see. We were seated right by a Christmas tree and had ample space and privacy for our conversation/catch up lunch! Stopped in on Friday morning to meet a friend for lunch. Parking was a little bit difficult as they get extremely busy! After waiting for 20min we were seated inside. Our waitress was extremely accommodating and removed a chair from our 4 seat table so that we had space for my sons stroller. I really appreciated this gesture. After perusing the menu I ordered their iced lemonade ( free refills). I was a bit dissatisfied by the lemonade as it didn't taste fresh and lacked a bit of flavor. With that said, just the vibes ambiance location gets 5 star. You want to impress someone from out of town and this is a nice place to do so. Has some hallmark vibes. Just to even getting here driving through a bit of small town Loomis. Has all that charm, feels, and as mentioned--the Hallmark feels. Before or after you eat you can walk the grounds that has the garden area, or inside the rest of the High Hand grounds. So quite an experience all on its own. The staff has always been great the few times we've dined here. Always nice and attentive. The food is a bit pricey for brunch affair and portion. BUT the quality feels above standard more affordable diner fare. Also the menu is not overwhelming. The pizzas are high quality and are wood fired in those stone ovens. The wait was about 45 minutes which was perfect because we wanted to browse the nursery before it got too hot outside. They have an extensive, and broad selection of both indoor, and outdoor pants. I had my heart set on bringing home a multi-colored lantana. After about 40 minutes of plant browsing, we were called to our table. They have a great brunch menu. We ordered a classic eggs benedict, a banana bread French toast, and a salmon salad. Everything was delightful, we'd never had Eggs Benedict on a delicious buttermilk biscuit before, but the star of the show was...you guessed it, the banana bread French toast. It was everything you could imagine, and more. We have not stopped craving it since. After a delicious brunch, we went back to the nursery to find a multi-colored lantana. It was about 3:45 pm, and we started getting rushed by nursery employees. We were confused because it was so early in the afternoon. Well, unbeknownst to us, they close at 4pm! They told us they would keep a register open for us, so we requested help to find a multi-colored lantana. After we secured our plant we hurried back to the cashier, but were told by an employee that it was too plate to complete our purchase. We were confused, because minutes earlier we were told they'd hold a cashier open for us. We thought we'd go to the register to make sure, and she was in fact waiting for us. We checked out at 3:59 pm, and all was good in the world. Just know if you plan to visit, their hours are: Mon-Sat 9am-5pm; Sun 9am-4pm. Next time we visit (and we will visit again for both pants, and brunch), we will plan accordingly, because it takes a couple hours to browse their indoor and outdoor plant inventory. read more

Have been here many times with excellent experience. Last few times, the host's acts like they are sick of people. Like, what are we even doing asking to be seated. Baffled at the attitude of the hostesses. Also, "I don't have anything for an hour but we close on a hour but I can put you done if you want?" Like what? Just list some brain cells. What a perfect place to have a bite to eat! There's ample seating, and in spite of showing up on a Sunday (and on a local high school's graduation day), we were surprisingly seated immediately! The staff was very nice and attentive from the moment we walked in. The ambiance is beautiful, between all the plants and just the open feel of the restaurant, just felt like a breath of fresh air (Literally and figuratively)! Drinks and food were good. My pomegranate mimosa hit the spot. And since it was our first visit, my table mates and I shared everything so we could sample more from the menu. We started with the Oktoberfest pretzel...the texture and taste of the pretzel was amazing but we thought the beer cheese was a little bland. We had the banana bread French toast...whoever the culinary genius was who thought to turn banana bread into French toast, I want to thank you. It was delightful. The breakfast burrito definitely benefited from a dash of hot sauce but it was good. The classic eggs Benedict was delicious. On our way home from squaw on Easter Day. We pulled off in Loomis to try and find a place to eat. High hand Cafe had great ratings on Yelp and close of the freeway. Pleasantly surprised how big the whole place is with the Brewery , stores, nursery and music stage. ( with music) we had a 30 min. Wait. Not bad for Easter Day. I wouldn't say it was amazing just yet, but I'm still excited to come back and try more, especially the pizzas I've heard great things about. For breakfast, I ordered the French toast, which was really unique because it's made with banana bread. It's a fun dish, but it doesn't come with anything, so I think it would be best to share it along with another entree or with a bit of fruit or chicken-sausage side. Gave this place another try for a special lunch with a friend. Our server was impatient and inattentive, I was midway through my soup and encountered a long meandering hair -- not mine. Eventually the server came by and wordlessly took the bowl away. There was no apology or offer of alternative remedies. Just a disgruntled attitude (like I was the problem). Then after a few minutes a new bowl of soup was dropped in front of me as a kind of hit and run solution. This bothered me because it would've been from the same hairy soup pot. Such a cute spot. You walk through a coffee shop to get to the restaurant and after breakfast, we went further down to visit the cute shops. A lot of plants, paintings, and cute stuff. There is also a brewery if you keep walking that has live music at times. Breakfast was amazing. The food came out really quickly. The pancake was soft and delicious. Their seasonal spritz was light and not too strong. The bendicts come on biscuits which is SO GOOD. I don't think I can have benedicts on english muffins ever again. Ha. Everything tasted great and homemade. Our server was attentive and very kind. Kept our drinks filled and checked on us constantly. Can't wait to come back! read more
