Came on a Thursday 5pm. It was busy, but the line wasn't long and it was a short wait. Their app is finally working, so yay. Nice, clean interior. It's roomy enough to sit and catch up with friends. I ordered the grapefruit boom because I'm a sucker for slushies. I like that they use real fruits, so I could chew on the grapefruit pulp. The slushie consistency is smooth and light. I do wish they had small straws though so I could drink slower. There's a pick up area, but it's not meant for self pickup. I had to put my drink back while I dug through the app to show the order number (the worker held the drink close to her for protection after I put it back). Checking the number is understandable, but there is definitely room for improvement about how it was handled. Now my core memory of Heytea is "I got scolded there". I picked up my drink because my number was facing me and there were only one other drink ready for pick up. She didn't yell at me and wasn't mean, but I guess I'm a snowflake, so I felt like I was scolded. I've never felt like that when other places asked to see my receipts though. This boba shop has been one of the more popular spots as of late with lines stretching all the way out of the store. From what I've heard, HeyTea one of the most popular boba tea shops in China and they recently opened many shops in the Bay Area. My experience was good, but I would probably only go here if the line wasn't too long. Both of my drinks were good and had great tea flavor. If you like stronger tea flavor, you will like these drinks. I would say the boba flavor kind of overpowered the drink too much, but the texture was good. Busy on a Saturday evening but line moves pretty quickly. Parking lot can be quite chaotic since it shares the same plaza with Trader Joe's. Store layout/line situation isn't that great, especially when crowded. People were squeezing past each other to get their drinks but had to walk between the narrow path between the line and the cashier. The people ordering at the cashier had to constantly move to let the people getting their drinks pass. I got the coconut mango boom and it was great! I'd rate this drink 5/5. It was refreshing, creamy, and I loved the sago. I tried some of the cloud matcha latte and I'd rate this one 4/5. Although new(ish) to northern California, HeyTea is actually a well-established chain with multiple locations in New York, Los Angeles, and even around the globe in the UK, Australia, and Malaysia. HeyTea was first founded in 2012 born from the desire to revitalize tea culture with high-quality ingredients and unique flavors. With a slogan like "Drive Quality, Spark Joy", HeyTea definitely aims high to offer great tasting drinks that everyone can enjoy. As with all new and shiny tea shops, HeyTea opened to long lines of adoring fans wanting to take a sip of their creations. The interior of the store is very clean and very aesthetic, although there isn't a ton of seating inside so you're probably better off taking your drink to-go. I highly recommend ordering from their app and to pick-up in store to cut down on the long wait times (both for ordering and pick-up). We placed our order on their app, and had an estimated wait time of 23 minutes until pick-up - a little on the longer side, but still reasonable enough. In the store they have a screen up on the left hand side that displays the order numbers that are in progress and ready for pick-up. Once ready, all you need to do is go up to the counter, present them with your order number, and then you'll have your drink(s) in hand in no time at all. We went with their (1) crisp grape boom (which is easily my favorite drink of theirs now), (2) strawberry mulberry boom (a second favorite), (3) mango grapefruit boom (a good old classic), and (4) supreme brown sugar milk tea (something a little more familiar to the masses). The crisp grape boom is a showstopper - whenver I think of grape, my mind instantly goes to those sickly sweet yet bitter cold syrups of my childhood and the inner child in me still shivers at the thought of drinking those down. With that in mind, grape is not usually a flavor that I find myself partial to; however, this drink might just make me change my mind. Their crisp grape boom is refreshing, flavorful, and not too sweet! Imagine biting into a sweet bunch of grapes, and HeyTea has essentially captured that taste and feeling into a drink! The mango grapefruit boom is reminiscent of any good mango grapefruit sago drink, and an instant favorite of mine. The mulberry strawberry boom was very unique, and I will note that mulberry is probably an acquired taste - it's sweet and tart, with a slightly grassy taste (that took me a bit to get used to and enjoy). Last, but not least, the supreme brown sugar milk tea is a great choice for someone looking for a solid milk tea option amongst all the fruit offerings. If you're wondering if HeyTea is worth the excitement, then I'm happy to share that it is! I'm also a big fan of green grape and really enjoyed the chunks of grape in the drink, they tasted crisp and fresh. It would have been nice to have my name called when my drink is ready, but they are so busy and have a screen that shows the numbers, so can't complain too much there. I will say the long lines and wait times have dropped a bit since their initial opening so now might not be a bad time to give it a try if you've been waiting! ~Ordering Process~ We ordered in-store. The line to order in the store was actually not very long! Most of the people in the store seemed to be waiting for their order, so I'm assuming a lot of them ordered ahead of time via their app. We'll probably do so in the future! They have a little TV screen at the back of their store that shows if your order # is "in-progress" or "ready for pickup". We waited about 10 minutes (maybe less time?) to order our drink and maybe another 15minutes to get our order on a Sunday early afternoon. ~Parking~ Parking can be a bit challenging at times during weekends with this location being in a popular mall with trader joes and such, but usually you should be able to find parking with little to no problem! ~Pricing~ Each drink is priced around $7-$8, which I think is pretty reasonable for a premium boba shop. ~The Drinks~ Mango Coconut Boom (customized Less Ice, Less Sweet): SO good. Went back here for a second time to get the bobo milk tea again. Not sure if it was made slightly differently or if I just remembered it to be different last time but it wasn't my favourite. I couldn't really taste the tea this time and it was very very heavy on the milk flavour. Boba was still cooked nicely and had a good chew. I came here for their soft opening a while ago to try some of their drinks. It was my first time hearing of Heytea but apparently they're well known in China and they have a couple of locations opening around the bay. Looking at the menu, they mainly specialize in matcha, or blended fruit drinks. If you're into that, I'd highly recommend this place. The store was really clean and they seem to take pride in using real fresh ingredients and teas. My friend and I got Matcha drinks and grape blended drink and I thought it was pretty good but it can take a little longer since it's handmade/blended. Personally I prefer more variety of teas/milk teas (I love osmanthus oolong or other floral and unique teas) , so I'm hoping in the future they'll add more to their menu or else I'd probably go somewhere else more to my taste. I met up with a friend here around lunch time on a Sunday and we agreed it was pretty hectic. We must've arrived during peak hours, as the parking lot was packed with several cars circling for parking spots. It's next to a Trader Joe's and a few other shops. I usually only come here when the wait isn't too bad. We both ordered variations of matcha drinks and enjoyed them overall. However, there were a lot of people waiting for their orders and it took a while before we were able to pick up our drinks. As time went on, the line just kept growing. I recommend coming before noon to beat the rush and secure a parking spot. There is also a limited number of seats, so keep that in mind if you plan to sit inside. I've also tried their Cloud Mango drink with regular sugar and it was sickeningly sweet. I'm not sure if I'd try it again with less sugar or just skip it altogether.
