This Ace is relatively large for a hardware store in they downtown area and is pretty darn immaculate. It's also staffed with some very nice folk, although the gentlemen that helped me didn't know what Locktite was or where it was in the store. An employee at the big box store would probably know... but then you'd have to actually find one after wandering around the aisles lost for 10 minutes. The prices seem a bit high, if I'm honest, although I have to admit to not frequenting hardware stores smack dab in the middle of a city. If you live or work in the area, this is the place to be. Otherwise, you'll probably want to shop local. read more

I was far from home when walking through the Seattle airport to catch the train to downtown Seattle when both rear wheels on my pull along suitcase broke. After arriving at my hotel, I sought ought a trusty Ace Hardware Store and the doorman indicated there was Ace "Hero Hardware" Store located just a couple blocks from the hotel. After walking to the store with my broken suitcase, I spoke with Mr. Joe Riley and he graciously agreed to help me remove and replace the two wheels in the backroom of his store. His creative willingness in a time of need allowed me to get through the rest of my trip and back home to Atlanta. I am very grateful to Mr. Riley and highly recommend his store to anyone. Dunno if I went on a good day or what, but I did not have the same experience with customer service as a lot of the reviewers. I'm not a big DIY person but the staff was happy to help me find the right kind of screw I needed for a project even though I didn't really know what I was looking for. I have lived a couple of blocks away from this store for a couple of years now so have been here frequently and have always found the store clean, well stocked, and the staff friendly. I've always been able to grab what I needed and go before but today I went there for a drill bit set and they were locked down with an anti-theft device. I waited - looked at the guy's back at the register with nothing to do that could have been ringing up my sale. I then went to find floor staff - one was stocking a shelf while talking to a customer and the other was wandering trying to find something he was telling the customer he didn't think they had. At that point I left, came home, and ordered the same product on Amazon. Amazon is opening a store two blocks away I will be able to scan my cell phone on entering, take what I want off the shelf, and walk out of the store. People are going to want that convenience over shopping at a store that starts off with assuming they are there to steal something. I like the store and will still go there sometimes for general stuff, but I'm not going to waste my time going there again if it is something that might be locked down. read more

Stopped in to buy some drill bits and screws. After going to the counter the clerk asked me about the drill I was using and when I told him what type it was he asked me why I was buying the most expensive drill bits with a quick connect fitting.I responded that I didn't know the difference. He showed me some much less expensive bits that would work just as good without the quick connect fitting. I appreciate him saving me money and will return for future purchases because of this experience. read more

Truth be told, I preferred City Hardware (RIP), but since they closed it's the closest place within walking distance to my office. With that said, not sure what all these bad reviews are about -- was here the other day to pick out some paint sample swatches for the bathroom, was asked if I needed help twice, and both of the employees I interacted with were lovely & went above and beyond to make sure I had what I needed. read more

Ace had what I needed in stock. However, staff was more than rude. I wasn't acknowledged when I entered, a staff person came to my isle, looked at me as I looked at him, and didn't ask if I needed help, just walked away. I found what I needed in 5 minutes thanks to the handy signs indicating what items are in each isle, and went to check out. The check out person just leaned on the back table and watched me walk up to the register. I greeted him... nothing. I only purchased 1 item, and it took longer for the clerk to check me out than it did to find my item. He didn't tell me the price, just looked at me. I gave him the amount I saw on the register. He gave me change...still not a word. Then my receipt came out, the clerk rolled his eyes looked at the receipt and made me reach for it myself. I wish I could say I was exaggerating, but I am not. Don't go in expecting much at this Ace. I'll do my hardware shopping elsewhere! read more

Terrific store! Very friendly staff and wonderful customer service. I live downtown and have been there several times. They are always willing to spend time answering all my questions and are SO helpful. I'm happy we have such a good hardware store right in the city! A pleasure to shop there. How nice to have a hardware store right down the street. I've made an effort to give Hero Hardawre my bisiness since they opened earlier this year but I'm done. If you're lucky enough to find someone working here that knows the difference between a nut and a bolt, they're likley to be the guy who shuts the door on your face 10 minutes before the posted closing time.
