I LOVE Greenwood Hardware -- especially the people that work there! They are knowledgeable and patient with those of us that don't know what we are doing. I just finished a painting what was once a rusted out patio table. Greenwood Hardware it the best place to go for product and advice. read more

Ladies night! They had cheese, crackers, wine and beer. Cool that you also get 20% off everything in the store. They also had a raffle that you didn't have to be present to win! Staff were super friendly and helpful. read more

Greenwood Hardware - The line into ladies night! - Hardware Stores Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Whenever I need something for a house or gardening project, Greenwood Hardware is my go-to! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and the store is well-stocked (it's also pretty cute for a hardware store!). Everything I have bought here is good quality and fairly priced. One of my favorite things about Greenwood Hardware is their involvement in the community and commitment to getting people into the store who may not traditionally frequent hardware stores. The past two years, I have attended Greenwood Hardware's Ladies' Night and it is always a smashing success! They close the store to the general public and host an event for women of all ages. The whole store is 20% off, they do a raffle for some awesome items, there are local vendors, gift bags, and wine and cheese/crackers! It's one of my favorite nights and has truly made me a loyal Greenwood Hardware customer. I hope this event lives on forever, I have no doubt I will be doing my best to attend every year. read more

This is the best hardware store on the planet. The staff is excellent. I got my plumbing stuff-from there and a nice bag of soil and 3 D birthday card. We have lost so many hardware stores like many businesses but we have this well kept healthy store. I saw Local honey here too! Stop in and you'll not find regrets! read more

I never would have thought a hardware store would take care of my water heater installation, but I absolutely recommend Greenwood Hardware! I learned they provide this service after coming across another review - glad I did! I forget the name of the person I originally spoke to, but Chase took over from their and was extremely thorough and patient in his explanations of regulatory requirements and my options - he and Dimitrious came and did the install, both very professional and efficient, and for all I got I would say most competitive in price and well worth it. Everyone there was so pleasant to work with and I'm so pleased with what I got! Highly recommend! read more

I don't live near Greenwood Hardware but a few times over the past 13 years of living in Seattle I've stopped in and they've always had what I needed. I bought a reel lawn mower in 2011, a photocell for my outdoor lights sometime shortly after that, and in 2025 I needed a hook blade utility knife. I think it was James who helped me out. I could not find them for the life of me but when I asked, he showed me where they were, helped me choose between the options, and sold me a really nice Milwaukee utility knife that was probably overkill but I like quality tools and it was nice to have that level of knife to cut through some tough Marmoleum flooring. I've read through the negative reviews and I think people should extend some grace to anyone trying to hire and retain quality employees in this day and age of self-centered people. It seems they acknowledge the negative experiences and commit to doing better. I think it's hard to expect more from people and I doubt anyone consistently gets better service at a big box store. I appreciate the small independent business owners who can stay afloat anywhere but particularly in business-hostile Seattle. I don't have a hardware store like this in my neighborhood (Leschi) so I think those who live nearby Greenwood should be thankful to have this neighborhood resource. read more

Did a great job replacing the water heater in my daughter's condo. They were there on time the price quoted was exactly what they said it would be. read more

so disappointing. I called to see if they had a product and requested a price, and when I arrived they more than doubled the price. I don't recommend shopping here. I didn't buy the product and went elsewhere. read more

Recently, I needed help with a table leg repair. The owner, James, was very friendly and helpful. I was very happy with the service. The store has that great neighborhood feel that you don't always find these days. Highly recommend this business. read more

Having been my favorite hardware store for many years, I won't give it less than three stars. However, I've left there twice this month, thinking I won't go there again. The first of these two times, I was met with what was nothing less than mansplaining, which came with a side of apparent frustration on his part. Admittedly, I ended up buying things I knew I wouldn't need to placate him. This time, when I returned those things I didn't need, I was spared the mansplaining, but when I asked the woman helping me which of the five similar but different saws was the cheapest and would also do the job, she replied, "We're both looking at the price tags, so you tell me." Albeit a true statement, I would have liked more information and less attitude. So ....maybe it's the day. Perhaps it's me. Maybe it's the effect of the world we now live in. I know I don't like it. It's a great hardware store. Neither incident is particularly significant. And I probably won't go back. read more

I recently visited the beautiful Greenwood Hardware store. I found lots of things I just simply had to have in my home. I bought a couple cast iron pots that are adorable, a couple of hand bags and a gorgeous plant and pot for it. The plants all looked so healthy and vibrant! I was so well cared for and will be back very soon! Willow and James both made me feel right at home! read more

Greenwood Hardware - Me trying to sneak up on James and Willow ... - Hardware Stores Near Me - Seattle, Washington

Friendly staff, a quaint and fully stocked neighborhood hardware shop. They carry everything from wheelbarrows and kids camping chairs, to gutters and carabiners. Cozy interiors allow for stocking so much and more than expected. The store is pretty well laid out, flowing easily from one room to the next. No one bothers you, or even says a word when you walk in, allowing you to explore and find what you're looking for. Customers are also friendly and helpful, which truly enhances the neighborhood feel of Greenwood Hardware. read more

I had a great experience getting my water heater replaced. They were upfront about the price of installation and it was significantly lower than the other places (those that would actually quote me an estimate without a costly technician visit) On the day of the install, the installer was great! They explained everything they were going to do. They were able to move the tank closer to the wall than the original (due to some weirdness with my basement and where the old water heater was). They were friendly throughout, answered all my questions, and cleaned up everything better than it was before. I wouldn't hesitate to use Greenwood again for a water heater. read more

I wanted to replace a leaky water heater, and was dreading the whole process. By chance I stumbled across Greenwood on Yelp, gave them a call and the whole process was fantastic: - Easy to talk to on the phone about our project, what I wanted and what I could expect. - Pricing was up-front and honest. - We were able to schedule install a few days out. They even called us with a cancellation so we got our heater replaced a day earlier than expected. - Our installer (Chase) was on time, explained everything and super respectful of our home. I didn't feel like they were rushing to the next job, they left our mechanical room immaculate and explained the new heater in detail before leaving. Highly recommend! read more

I had an issue with my failed hot water tank and unfortunately Greenwood Hardware was booked out for a few days. I spoke with James, a team member there, and even though I couldn't buy a new tank from them, he went above and beyond in helping me with my issue. He spent a decent amount of time with me explaining my issue and even walking me through preparation for the tank replacement over a video call. Guys like James are rare in this world and he exemplified outstanding customer service! read more

I am a regular here. Just dropped by to get a bug net for my kid. I was informed they do not sell them because they are unethical. Well now, I'll just take my unethical dollars to Home Depot, and Tru Value can moralize in an empty store. Pro tip - customers spend money for goods and services, not judgmental, condescending commentary. I have my own ethics - I don't need to be lectured about yours. read more

We've used Greenwood HW for water heater replacement, for which they do a decent job. However, we had them service a water heater that had a bad element. They left the unit with no hot water and a clogged mixing valve. They apparently can't do actual plumbing. We rushed to get a real plumber, who said the clog could have easily been fixed. We paid an extra $400 for that. We won't be using Greenwood going forward. read more

Impressive selection with fair prices for a small store - we always find what we need here for small jobs around the house! They also seem to be open later than some of the other local hardware stores, which is convenient! Everyone is super friendly and helpful! read more

Great selection of metric fasteners, when the big box stores I checked had a bunch of mostly empty drawers in disarray. Selection of tools is curated towards nicer stuff. For a small store, they've done a good job at stocking items you actually need and I've been surprised at how I haven't needed to resort to Amazon or HD. read more

Professional, helpful and reasonable. Could not be more pleased with my Greenwood Truevalue experience! Just got my 50gal hot water tank replaced by Greenwood Truevalue, whom my inspector had recommended. My appointment window was 1-1:30 and Scott arrived shortly before 1:30 to my condo building without issue. My water tank was EOL and tucked in the closet. Scott was well-prepared and as discussed on my appointment call, brought both a 50gal and 40gal just in case. The replacement was smooth and clean with no hiccups and ended promptly by 3:00pm. After the installation, he provided instructions and a few remarks on what was new, which was very helpful. Total came out to $799 for the water tank, $19 for the water alarm, plus tax. Highly recommend if you're in need of a new hot water tank! Friendly, helpful professionals. read more

I agree with Matt C from a year ago. Things have not changed. Not an enjoyable atmosphere. Have frequented this store many times over last years and always disappointed with the lack of any sense that the people working there enjoy their work. I know I'm just there for hardware but there are many other stores that understand how to make customers enjoy their time at a business. There is a sense that the employees are annoyed if they have to help you. This store is the nearest hardware store for me but I will not go back and travel further. It takes a lot for me to go to the effort to write a review but this series of encounters has prompted me to do so. read more

Walked in and saw 3 employees behind the counter, all talking to one other customer. Waited a minute, then when no one acknowledged me, asked if the store sold water keys. One employee said, "down that aisle" as she pointed. Proceeded to search the aisle, couldn't find the water keys, re-asked employee where the keys were and I swear it was like I was pulling her away from her dying mother--she expressed so much irritation at having to walk 1/2 an aisle and point. The water keys were behind a sliding peg board and not visible to customers. Additionally, the water key was $11.99. I'm totally willing to pay top dollar to support a local biz that provides nearby, helpful and convenient service. Unfortunately the employees who were working today 3/27/22 at 11:15am were not friendly (btw customers like friendly) or helpful (btw customers need helpful). I've lived in Ballard/ Greenwood for 24 years and yet only come to this store when I need a fast fix, AND when I don't (or can't) care about price or good customer service. read more

Are you stressed about replacing your hot water heater? Don't be! True Value to the rescue! And, don't be like me - call them first. Kendrick was at my place within 30 minutes of my call. My water heater was dead and leaking. They said they could be there 9 days later. Indicated others would be on that time frame. If that's the best they could do, they should've referred me to someone else. Indeed I did find someone else who fixed it later this morning. I don't know if they are incompetent, but they shouldn't be in the business of offering a service so unreasonable read more

I drive out of my way to come to this store. The staff are very welcoming. They have an amazing selection for such a small store. Today I bought organic seeds and soil, a couple of bird feeders (including sustainable bamboo) and bird seed, some starter pots. They answer all your questions BIG and small. They try to get to know you and what type of person you are so that they can help answer your questions. I appreciate this sort of old fashioned approach. They are earnestly interested in helping you... it is not fake at all. The parking lot is small but I've not had a problem with parking yet. For a True Value Hardware store... this is as good as it gets! read more

Two thumbs up and ALL the stars for Greenwood Hardware! Kendrick did a fantastic job of installing a new hot water heater, and the price was less than I thought. Now I can take long hot showers! Thanks again, Greenwood Hardware. YOU ARE THE BEST. read more

I will never go to another hardware store! This is hands down my favorite place in the neighborhood. I found it during the 2020 snow storm because they, per usual, were reliably open when we needed salt and a shovel. Since then they've helped me with everything from getting new glass for a frame to changing the locks on my 60 year old house doors. Always have the most knowledgeable staff and I really could not recommend this place enough. read more

Our water heater was unfixable and the company we had it warrantied with though it was acceptable to wait 47 days for replacement. No appointment just spontaneously helpful! Received excellent customer awareness, & kind and informative service by Alice last night helping me use ratchets on roof of my car! So grateful and such an incredibly refreshing discovery! Patronize your local True Value cuz they don't patronize. They inform, help and make serving/informing a pleasure! read more

I LOVE these guys. It's a case study in supporting local business. A little pricier than Home Depot? Maybe (and honestly, not by much...seriously). But these guys know their stuff and they can really help you out. No wasting time searching for someone to answer a question. And here's the kicker: they just help you out for free! Example: I was replacing a faucet in my bathroom and needed a basin wrench, which is something you have 1) if you're a plumber or 2) if you're someone who replaced a sink once, had to buy the tool, and never used it again. And it's like $15-25. I inquired about a rental (I'd heard a rumor) and the woman at the counter reached under, grabbed a basin wrench from a toolbox, and asked me how long the job would take and what my phone number was in case I didn't come back. I inquired as to the rental cost and she just stared at me, confused. How much per hour? Stare. "You just take it," she said after the figured out what I was babbling about "and bring it back when you're done. No charge." THAT'S a neighborhood business! Customer for life. read more

I am not handy. I don't know how many tool types there are - there are things you use to hit other things with, things that you use to torture other things with - but I have needed a variety of things from light bulbs to a water heater, and these guys have always (EVERY SINGLE TIME) been there for me. In over twenty years, I've never had to return anything because they sold me the wrong thing, and I know that if they had, they'd be crazy apologetic and all. The service is so good that I always leave wishing I could be a tool-using sort and come back more often. I'm not, but if you are - take my place: go there more often! You'll be much happier than when you go to Big Box-O-Rama. read more

Initially I called another vendor (rhymes with PAST)to replace my 17 yr old water hear and got this insane quote which I politely told them "Hell no". Called Greenwood Hardware and got a quote for half of the other vendor. They were honest in their approach, explained every single thing they were doing and had great customer service. I'll be moving into another house soon and I'll be calling these guys to replace that water hear. Its great to see these guys were honest and didn't want to charge me for every possible thing. Charming store with a good selection of useful stuff plus lots of pretty things BUT staff is aggressively rude and/or unhelpful sometimes. I want to support local but I could get stuff cheaper elsewhere without the bad attitude. read more

Handy AND very helpful hardware store. Just like everyone else indicated, their selection is small and if you want to buy a bunch of stuff, prices are better at the biggies but if you need something quickly without schlepping all the way to the warehouse places. In fact, _THE_ best feature of this place is their helpful staff, I even got a referal for an electrician from these guys that worked out very well. read more

I called Greenwood Hardware Friday afternoon for a water heater replacement quote, scheduled it and got it installed the next morning! Scott was great to talk with while he worked, explaining everything as he went showing me how the new heater worked vs the old one. He had everything needed for the install including both a 40 and 50 gal just in case. Super service and I am really glad my friend recommended these guys. And the new one sure brings back memories ~ I had forgotten just how much hotter the old one used to get when it was new! read more

Greenwood Hardware is pretty darn amazing. They store is dog-friendly, and the staff all seem to love dogs. Usually, one or two employees will stop and chat with me while they give my dog treats or pet him. They really know how to make me feel right at home. The staff know their stuff. I've never seen this level of competence in a Home Depot or Lowe's. I had a problem with a missing roller for my closet door, and the employee not only led me to the aisle to find the parts I needed, but also found them for me and explained (slowly and clearly) exactly how to make my closet work the way I want it to. I went home, and I did exactly what they said and (voila!) it worked perfectly. The selection of hardware and tools is really great for such a tiny place. Need a hand saw to cut metal? They have 6 kinds. Need a drill bit? I dare you to choose just one. Also, I know this is a little off the wall, but this is the ONLY place in Seattle where I've seen a foaming soap dispenser. I've been searching other stores (Target, World Market, etc) high and low for one of these. I figured that since these stores have entire DEPARTMENTS devoted to bath gadgets, they might have what I was looking for. I was about to go my typical route and just buy it online; however, I found one the first day I walked into GTV- and it's even in brushed stainless. Tres bien. read more
