I come here whenever I need something they sell. They always have what I need (in the past year: paint, glue, tape, screws, holiday lights, and light bulbs). The employees are always friendly and helpful. It's local, which I prefer to shop, so I will continue shopping here. read more

I came to this store looking for MAPP gas and a pencil flame torch nozzle to accompany said MAPP gas...asked the employee for items as they were locked up behind a cage....get home later only to find out that not only did he sell me the complete wrong nozzle for propane....he sold me premium torch fuel that is not MAPP gas, with a bottom that looks as if it is about to burst from the seam....guess hardware store employees can't be relied upon to provide adequate service and help...noted and will be returning for my money back...check your products and shop elsewhere! read more

I would love to write out glorious satirical comments of all the amazing things that happened but it was a quick transaction... I needed needle nose pliers and they had them for sale. Quick transaction and nothing caught my eye in terms of unwashed floors, funkalicious smells or surly attitude from employees. Nope it was friendly and organized store. This is my go-to hardware store in Seattle. It's a little cramped so the selection is restricted to common items and small home improvements but it works well enough for my needs. I'm really here to mention the five star customer service. Everyone is really helpful, friendly and knowledgeable which is why I make the long walk to this store. Especially Ramon. The only thing is because it's a small location downtown, the selection can be limited sometimes - there's been a couple instances where I couldn't find the hardware I was looking for. Other than that, I'm always in and out very quickly because the employees are great at asking what I need and directing me straight to it! It's hard not to think of the big box stores when it comes to hardware. I need to hit Ace first. They may not have every itm, but they have the most helpful staff, it's well arranged and the pricing is just as good as the big guys, with the exception of some loss leaders. It's fun to wander around a big box hardware store for 2-3 hours, but ve big box hardware stores but can spend 2 hours finding things. It can be fun if you have the time, but savings are usually only on individual loss-leaders, and wondering, "I wonder where this could be." Perhaps this could be called a "curated" hardware store. They don't carry the crap, but still have quality items at most price points. The only real negative here is parking, but evenings and weekends are not a problem and it may take a bit, but there's always something within 2 blocks. As I wander in Hero Ace, I have time to look at items and remember, "Oh, I need one of those." read more

I called in and spoke with Ramon and he was very helpful, walking me through the order and making sure everything was correct. Pretty awesome! My fiancé and I moved from Capitol Hill to Downtown into our first home and were in the need of more blue painter's tape. Thinking we'd hit up the Bed Bath & Beyond we were pleasantly surprised to pass by this Ace Hardware instead. Never mind BBB! This store is large for a city hardware store and they've got everything you'd need! I ordered eight bags of black rubber mulch (difficult to find in small quantity these days) online for pick up at the store to avoid shipping costs. I was pleasantly surprised to get a call from the store offering to deliver the product to me for free. The product was delivered promptly and neatly placed on my front porch. Ace is truly a hidden gem in downtown! I went to Hero Ace today for the first time during my lunchbreak to avoid another trip to Home Depot. I was immediately greeted by an employee when I walked in, and he even walked me all the way to the section I was looking for. After I found my first item, I was also needing a specific type of nail. Although they didn't have exactly what I was looking for, another employee spent time helping me find alternatives, even offering to help create the nail that I was looking for. I have been to Home Depot three times this week, and not once have I had an employee help me. Home Depot just feels like an huge and lonely warehouse - too big and impersonal. Although Ace has a smaller selection, they provide great customer service, decent prices, and convenience! read more

Really helpful and knowledgable staff. I came in for wall hooks to hang pictures of various sizes and weights and had no idea where to start. One of the employees who helped me spent time walking me through the options and the differences and even provided a recommendation to save me money. When he walked me up front, the employee behind the cash register was friendly and jovial. I wasn't expecting to enjoy my experience here but the employees made it really easy and quick to find what I was looking for. (This is after a frustrating experience at Home Depot where I had to wait for 20 minutes before and the employee helping me had no idea what he was talking about). read more

The bad: I went to Hero a day after I moved to town to get a copy of my house key made and it didn't work... wahh! I went in a few days later to ask for a re-cut and was hassled by the dude who works there. I was really disappointed when the guy who originally cut the key -- who acknowledged that he helped us out -- did not say sorry, say he would redo it, or offer any kind of customer service. He simply said "Oh, it doesn't work?" and walked away. Bleh. The good: This is a super clean store (perhaps it's new?) with, what I imagine to be, a great variety of junk. I'll never come back... poor customer service puts a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I've patronized this store on occasion ever since moving to Seattle 4 years ago - but never again. This afternoon, I stopped in just to get some things to touch up wall anchor holes... I'm very comfortable with household upkeep like that - but always want to be sure I'm choosing the best tools for the job. So I asked one of the employees for help ... and somehow ended up back in the 1950's... The neanderthal who 'helped' me wasn't very knowledgeable - which wouldn't bother me in the least ... particularly as he confirmed his recommendations with another staffer. But then, when checking me out - he said 'you're going to do this all yourself, huh? Wow. Well, I guess you can brag to your girlfriends and use big words, like 'putty'.' No, I'm not shocked that such idiots still exist in the world - only that they can keep a job in 'customer service'. I left without a word because I was the only woman - and the only customer, as far as I could see, in the shop ... and this is a better place for my reply in any case. read more

Wow, the staff here are consistently helpful, and it's great to have a spot to grab some odds and ends on the way home from work.

This is the most useless hardware store ever. I have been trying to like it for over a year as the location is perfect for downtown residents. But each time I go there I'm comforted by staff that do not know what products they offer or what they are used for AND with an inventory that is completely inadequate. Just walked there looking for 4 simple items for home and garden and only came away with only 1. I guess I have to suck it up and rent a zipcar and go down to HomeDepot by the stadiums. At least their staff know something about their products and they offer a huge selection. read more
