However, the specialist spent more than 30 minutes with me analyzing the specifications for my lamp shade and educating me as to the important measurements to keep in mind. They are a locally owned TrueValue so we are happy to support a small and local business! They follow COVID-19 protocol as well! The staff was super helpful in helping us find what we needed. I stopped by today to grab a few tools for my upcoming electrical gig. One of the employees trespassed me as I was walking up for "hanging out with skateboard kids." I look young, but am in my mid 30's. I don't hang out with children. My grandfather owned the Shell station that use to be across the street, and my dad has frequented the store since before I was born, as well as myself frequenting the store most of my adult life. I was discriminated against by this staff member for looking young. My family and family friends will be going to Home Depot from now on. read more

I've been a contractor for decades (30+ years) and my company has used this store daily for the last six years (at least). I consider the ladies at the registers, and the former manager, friends/family; they know my family very well. That being said, I have had a few debacles involving paint over the years (incorrect color, color matching not even close, etc.) but everything seemed to be on the rails when Elwood was working, not so much if it was someone else. Either way, I wanted to support our local hardware store. I had a high-end project that needed 10 gallons of paint. I went to the store, told Connor what the color was and left, and I was surprised that the paint it was in 10 individual cans when I returned to pick it up. This is very abnormal for a paint store; literally everywhere else this would come in two 5-gallon containers. I dropped off the paint on my project, but we had a delay of a week or so and so did not use it immediately. When it came time to paint, we spun each gallon of paint with a paint mixer on a large drill; which is very common for our industry. As any homeowner knows, paint can be kept in storage for years, remixed and reused. On job sites, paint can sit for weeks or months, spun with a mixer and reused. This is very typical. After mixing it, we proceeded to use the paint from True Value. When we put it on the wall, it was clear that the tint didn't mix back together with the base and there were huge discolored stripes all over the walls of this multi-million-dollar house. I immediately threw the 10 cans in my truck and ran them back True Value and let them know what happened, I was livid. After I went back to the job, Connor calls me to tell me that he "...painted some on a card..." and that "...there was nothing wrong with the paint". At this point, I'm incensed, I told him I wanted my money back... almost $700 worth!!! Connor's boss, Brian, calls me and says that he can't refund me my money unless Benjamin Moore approves it and says that I need to speak to the BM rep in order to go forward. This is absolutely insane; Brian can absolutely refund my money but I go along with talking to a Benjamin Moore rep out of respect to a place that I purchase $60k+ worth of materials a year from. Brian said he didn't want to lose my business. The Benjamin Moore rep calls me and I go over what happened. He tells me that using a mixing drill should have been sufficient, "...so long as the paint was mixed correctly." He went on to say that True Value, "...should not have given you the paint in 10 individual cans..." as Benjamin Moore can't promise that the color will be identical throughout that many cans. He also mentioned that perhaps, "...a couple of the cans could have been bad...", so Connor may have tested one that was good and the other ones may have been defective. He recommended that I only get that amount of paint, "...in 5-gallon buckets to keep the color consistent..." and lessen the chance of a defective product. Well, I surely would have if I would have known that they were going to do that in the first place! Who wants to carry 10 individual cans of paint??? So now, I'm feeling vindicated, surely, I will get my money back since True Value is obviously not selling paint as Benjamin Moore recommends. I ask the rep when I will get my money back. He replies, "...oh yeah, I can't refund your money, Connor says the paint is fine...", I am completely floored. So, essentially, Brian doesn't care if he loses my business, he knew what the rep would say before he even called me. At this point, I feel lied to and deceived by True Value. That's not what family or a friend would do. read more

I brought in a lock to have it rekeyed. The clerk told me initially that they could not due it. When pressed he paged another person who said they could. At the end of the day they could not rekey it. A knowlegable staff should have known from the start. read more

This is a great little store neighborhood store with a surprising amount of inventory packed into it. It's very rare that I'm not able to find what I'm looking for. These guys have more screws, fasteners, and brackets in one aisle than you would find at Home Depot or Lowe's. "Why is that?" you ask. I'm glad you asked. I'll tell you why: it's because they don't have three aisles of doors and dishwashers, a gigantic attached lumber yard, every model of grill known to mankind, and all the other crap that litters the big box stores where you can never find what you're looking for. It never fails that Home Depot will not have the exact weird furniture screw I'm looking for or even locate someone to find it for me. Case in point: a few weeks ago I was putting together a rack in my pantry and I lost a little rubber cap that went over an endpiece of metal. With dread, I brought another one I had into True Value knowing I would never find this damn thing, and neither would anyone else. Not true! I was assisted immediately by one of the employees who said "oh, sorry we don't have these in red, but I think we have orange ones". Are you kidding me? How did he even know what these things are?! Need another example? How about the time when we filled our new pump sprayer with a cleaning solution for the deck and were just about to start spraying an when we noticed the trigger piece was missing. Or maybe we lost it? Who knows. Shit! We called True Value. There was no waiting through options and pressing 7 for the meat department, who isn't answering the phone and now you're talking to voicemail or the idiot operator again and have just lost 5 minutes of your life. Instead, Brian answered immediately and we explained our predicament. We gave him our receipt number over the phone and said he would just leave another up at register 1 for us to pick up at our leisure. What!? Awesome! No balls were dropped, no one needed to go find a supervisor and ask what to do, and there was no clueless idiot at the register who didn't know what we were talking about. Instead, we were back on the deck spraying away within 30 minutes of the phone call. Could it go any smoother than that? Imagine if this had happened at Home Depot and you have your answer. Yeah, they might be a little more expensive than giant chains -- for SOME things. But the experience is sooooo much better. They also have a loyalty program that saves me some money. I get coupons at least once a month in my email for $5 or $10 off. When I need a tool, screw, hose or even a set of mason jars to make kimchi, this is the first place I want to spend my money. Keep up the great work! I feel that we Americans have lost our way selling out to giant box stores to save a buck. We're all guilty of it at times, but this little place is a perfect example of the kind of store and service you lose every time you do that. I am a person who does not like to press a button and have stuff delivered by Amazon. As a frequent shopper and true value reward card holder I went to the store to give my money to brick and mortar. As a man who suffers from frequently having to go to the bathroom, I was happy to see that they allowed customers to use them. While in the bathroom there was a knock on the door. the Manager Brian, asked me what I was doing, to which I replied. He told me that his security guard has seen me go to the bathroom twice (I didnt), and that I was "Shifty" (working outside on a rainy Saturday I don't dress in a suit), and that I must be doing drugs. He said he would check the security camera and get back, (and honestly, why would I have stayed and continued shopping if I had done that??). When he came to me a few minutes later he showed me one non time stamped image of me entering the bathroom hallway. When I asked to see the other time I went to the bathroom he told me he didnt have to and this led to a loud altercation with more drug use accusations. Rest assured, if you go to this store and you are dressed to work, don't be surprised in "Manager" Brian gets in your face. I will never again give one penny to this store. Which I suppose in this day is a good thing since they charge far more than they should. It's Amazon for my hardware needs from now on. Oh, and one final thing. I've been a regular customer here for close to 15 years. From the first day I started coming here I was always great with a warm smile and a nod. I've never had any issues or complaints never not once. Until now, what I witnessed the other day has left me completely and utterly shocked to my core. As I was walking into the store I saw two employees pursuing a man and telling him to give back whatever he stole. Now that's all good but the one employee said and I quote give me that f****** s*** back you f**** I'll beat your ass or I'll kill you!! I couldn't believe my ears. This this took place earlier this month, I've been unsure of how to proceed since then. If anybody has any shredded decency or self-respect they will boycott this place until the employee used the homosexual slurs is fired. I will never come here again. read more

In the face of big box stores and Amazon, small businesses like these have one thing going for them: customer service. I once saw a young lady at the register repeatedly heckle a mother with a child about touching the toys that were for sale at the register. The poor mother was red in the face and almost in tears, out of embarrassment when she finally left the store. To be clear: the child was behaving perfectly fine, it was the cashier insisting that the child not touch THE TOYS that caused the child to be mildly whiny. When I went to check out with the same cashier, she started complaining about how awful children were and what a bad mother that person was. It was unprofessional and mean spirited. I recommended that she try to be more empathetic, particularly since the child wasn't being the least bit disruptive. I've seen multiple cashiers heckle parents about their children OR heard them complaining loudly about children. It's completely bizarre. I saw one of the male cashiers belittling a mother with a toddler today and it was the last straw, I will not shop here again. read more

We shop at True Value often and are always satisfied with the service and selection. I'm writing today because I just had the most amazing tree selection experience! Conner at True Value was beyond helpful as we selected our Christmas tree. There were three varieties to chose from, which he explained. He held up trees so that we could look at them. He had great tips for care. I was just totally blown away by his customer service. I had no expectation for what I could expect from the tree selection experience, but I was so delighted and surprised by Conners attentiveness. Everyone should get their tree from True Value! i went in looking for a specific item and after asking an employee who was standing at the front, he directed me to the aisle where the tag was there but the item was out of stock. another employee went out of her way to see if they had any others and then explained that they could order one for me and that they'd call when it came in. i gave her my number and was told upfront that with the upcoming holiday, not to expect to hear from them until later in the week. cut to an hour or so later and i get a call on my cellphone from someone identifying themself as a true value employee saying they'd managed to find one and it would be held for me at the register. she had gone out of her way to see if i wanted it sooner than before the holiday which i thought was particularly nice. there are a lot of comments about customer service at this location which had been lacking in the past but i will say that based on my experience, i can only give five stars. everyone i dealt with was courteous and helpful. i had no complaints at all! read more

Previously a very loyal customer here but I simply can't trust them after this weeks incident. I bought a cordless drill set this weekend and found that neither of the included batteries would charge. My wife exchanged it for a set that ended up having the same problem. I took the drill to a Milwaukee service center and it turns out the hardware store was selling 5 year old drills with totally flat batteries as new. There are currently several more of these sets on display, and when I told workers there about the issue they told me not to worry but left everything for sale. If you have to go here I wouldn't recommend it for larger purchases. read more

I've probably gone to this store 10 or 15 times a year for the last 15 years. The location is convenient for me, much closer than any other hardware store, and it's easy to get in and out pretty quickly. Most of the staff that works on the floor is helpful and attentive. However, I dread going into the store with my kids. They are good kids, but they are two and five, and they act like a two and five year old. But it doesn't matter if they are being perfect angels, or if they're having a bad day, the ladies who run the registers never fail to make some sort of rude comment. I've gotten multiple comments about my daughter putting her hands in her mouth - because I guess it's too disgusting not to comment on. Babies put their hands in their mouth, and there's not a lot you can do about it. I've gotten comments about them not being dressed warmly enough, or they set their snack down on the floor then put it back in their mouth, or they touched some thing that could hurt them. I'm one mom, with two busy kids, and the last thing I need is someone criticizing me while I'm trying to check out. My kids are fine, and the unsolicited parenting advice and criticism is not helpful. I want to mention that it's not all of the women who run the checkout stands, but it's two or three of them who are there on most days. But it makes my trips into the store more stressful than they should ever be. read more

I go here once a week to fix something small in my home. As a result, my projects never really pile up and I'm able to manage the small repairs one week at a time. The staff is incredibly helpful and always knows how to help me along with my project. I normally go in on Tuesdays, when the $.29 popcorn is being givien away for free. Also, I always bring my dog, she squeals with delight when we pull into the parking lot because everyone there is so nice to her and has pockets full of dog treats. read more

Customer service is a joke here and you've officially lost my business for good. Blame the consistently rude older lady cashier or don't because it's clear that even with reports about her, she's going to get away with her terrible attitude. She's been there forever and I honestly do not know why or how but that's True Value's issue to deal with, not mine any longer. Home Depot has a far better selection and better prices on almost all items anyway. They've earned my business simply by not being True Value. As I enter the store, 2 employees from outside choose to follow me in. Maybe the hat I have or the backpack makes me a target to "be watched" but it's kind of a lame excuse because I'm 100% certain that women who come into the store with purses (usually open), far more accessible than a closed backpack on my back, do not get followed around simply because they have a bag. So already my experience here today starts with me being profiled. Within the first 2 minutes I'm browsing, 4 people have asked me if I need help. No, I do not need help, "I need to remember what I'm here for (which I explained to the second person - one of the guys who followed me in) and will look around in the meantime", it is holiday season after all. By the time I've gotten from one side of the store to the other 6 people have now asked if I need help. This is within ~7 minutes inside the store. It's SO ANNOYING. Check with your co-workers before repeatedly asking. If I did need help, I know how to ask for it. A privilege given to other customers today, but certainly not me. Nevertheless I continue to do my shopping. I don't steal so people watching isn't an issue. They can do whatever they like and I will continue on my merry way which I was doing. I'd made my way from the back left of the store to the back right (looking down each of the aisles for the part or pieces that would jog my memory as to what I needed) when I made my way back to the main aisle where the sideways aisles to the right of the entrance. As I approach these aisles. Old lady cashier is at the register closest to these and as I see her, I dread it. I don't like how she has treated me or others in the past and I actively avoid her line or her in general even if it means waiting longer in a line to checkout. Anyway, she greets me "Hi, how are you?" "I'm well." "Can I help you find anything?" "No." She clearly doesn't like that "No." is a complete sentence and gets an attitude and her tone changes "Well what are you looking for?" I tell her "I do not need help." I should have said that I do not need YOUR help to be more specific. At this point she flips her sh*t and starts screaming to other employees. Why she felt the need to scream across the store saying "HE SAYS HE DOESN'T NEED HELP, HE SAYS HE DOESN'T NEED HELP" as if that is somehow a crime, I do not know. Absolutely, the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in my life. Call the police, this man does not need or want my assistance! /s Not only do I not need help, but even if I did, I would NEVER ask YOU because every time I've ever shopped in here, you've had exactly the same poor attitude toward me and other customers. Side note: it was in the side aisle section of the store that I finally remembered what I was here for - a soldering iron, soldering wire, a wire brush, flux paste, and plexiglass sheets for projects I am working on. Was considering a hand torch (not prior to seeing it on the shelf next to the solder materials but I digress). I did find a handy pamphlet on soldering which I decided to read in full to determine which items I'd need. FYI, it's got a ton of spelling mistakes in it but it is very helpful indeed so thanks for having that available (the one positive). So another employee comes over to me to ask if I need help. At this point, I'm exasperated. You've got to be kidding me right? How many times do I have to tell every single employee that asks, even when it's being shouted across the store that I do NOT need help. So I explain yet again that I just want to be left alone while I do my shopping (as I'd finally gotten to the section that triggered my trip in the first place. A peaceful or even meh shopping experience would have been ideal but instead I get this terrible employee who is literally harassing me and now shouting in the background, "I'M JUST DOING MY JOB" when the guy went over to her after talking to me. If you were just doing your job, why didn't anyone else receive this treatment? Hmm? Let me tell you, I am in no way required to interact with your employees in any manner whatsoever least of all the worst employee you have. Had I not been treated so poorly, the store would have made a sale. My experience at this store is consistently negative for one reason or another. 9/10 times it's poor customer service but ultimately, it's my fault for coming back repeatedly. In an era of growing big-box dominance, the local hardware store becomes an increasingly important niche performer. While Junction True Value Hardware is obviously limited by it's floor space, in it's market segment, it is simply the 'ne plus ultra', that is, the best. One of the smartest things JTVH did was recognize the value of more mature staff. Yes, there are some kids here (and they do great work), but the first thing that strikes you is that a large percentage of the staff is a bit older than what you'd expect to see, and, they are REALLY knowledgeable and good at what they do. JTVH also ensures that there are enough folks working the floor, so you can readily find someone who can help you with a question, recommendation, or just find something. Compare this to the nearby Home Depot on Delridge, where a necessary shopping accessory when you go there is to take along a tranquilizer dart gun, some duct tape and zip ties, so you'll be prepared to bag the ever-elusive sales help. The staff at JTVH also is old enough to remember the value of good old-fashioned courtesy, and they pass on that style of superior customer service to the younger staff members. THE VERDICT: Convenient location, superb service, and a reasonably good selection of the things you need - now - for your home project make Junction True Value Hardware your first stop for hardware. If you don't support good local guys, you won't keep 'em, so get over there!!! read more

Location. Location. This is the only hardware store convenient to the Alaska Junction. Staff are knowledgeable about their products and are quick to point you towards what you're shopping for. Compact is the best word to describe the size of everything in the store (excluding the staff): parking lot, nursery, paint selection and tool assortment. They do have a little of everything you'd expect in a hardware store, though. I even noticed live ladybugs and praying mantis eggs on the way in. The cashiers seem to be a little dotty and the sound effect the registers make ringing you up make me check my phone for messages, but they're always perfectly civil and patient. I've visited this store on more than one occasion for odds and ends. Sometimes they have it and sometimes they don't, but if you're wanting more greenery-oriented items, it's worth your while to drive further south to West Seattle Nursery near Brandon Street. Still, I'm glad they're here. They often save me a drive all the way to Home Depot for tools. read more

Unfortunately they were all sold out of everything snow related, so wasn't very convenient during a time it would have been most useful. Went back a a week or two later and they had plenty of shovels sitting right inside the front door. Unfortunately the cashier was an older lady who was extremely rude, no eye contact, short with her answers and seemed as if we were bugging her?! There is a woman who "works" here who pretends to offer you help but her real job is to hit you up for their monthly drawing. If you make the mistake of signing up for the drawing you then will receive countless sales calls for a new roof, new windows, etc. Not only is she unhelpful (she doesn't know where anything is), she is ungodly persistent; today she asked to help me while I was standing in line to pay. I won't come here anymore. I gave it one last chance because I haven't been here for six months and figured she might be gone. Im shopping at Home Depot instead. I'm new to the neighborhood and this was my first and last visit. I have such an appreciation of the "genuine, love my job, happy to help, experienced do-it-yourselfer associates", at my old True Value so maybe I set myself up to be disappointed. Customer service with the associate I had to chase down was poor. When I couldn't find what I needed after looking for some time, I went to look for an associate. I spied him down the aisle. As I approached within hearing range, as he was facing me and I him, I said "excuse me". Nothing. Excuse me three more times, louder as I approach closer. I know he has heard me beacuse at this point he turned away from me to avoid eye contact. As I was about to tap him on the shoulder, because now I am determined to be acknowledged, he looks up and says, "Yes?" I asked him to help me find toilet seat hinges. He blazed off in front of me. When I finally arrive to the place he stopped. He points to a rack. I peer down. I guess I am too slow because he pulls it from the shelf and hands it to me. The product was generic, looked super cheap and flimsy. I asked if there were any more. He said, this is it. When I asked for clarification of this is all you have in stock or this is all you carry. He said it was all they carried. So cheap and flimsy or nothing? I'll take nothing. I did notice when the cashier's lines were long, an associate did come over and open a new lane without being asked (hence the second star). So, I'm sure they got some decent people in there. But this was not enough to overcome the message that I was an unwanted pest who should be purposefully ignored because of....fillintheissuehere. Welcome to the West Seattle True Value. read more

As someone who has no business owning a home, I love this place. I have on several occasions brought up the pieces of a doorknob, faucet, etc., and these guys have always steered me in the right direction, without making me buy some unnecessary part. First time the woman told me how to work the tub faucet and fix on my own; this time the guy had me just buy a silicone spray for my deadbolt lock. How great is that? You also don't have to park a mile away from the door, nor aimlessly wander the aisles for the department you're looking for. Best of all, it's right up the street from my house. So what if I left a gaping hole in the door - I only had to be gone 10 minutes, not an hour! read more

Every time I go to Home Depot I feel lost, that on the shelves are countless objects for me to buy and if the years of consumer training have been of benefit the object will do as I wish when I get it home, and it has been installed and fiddled with and mostly just let be a part of the house system or the desk unit or the art, there it is, until it breaks. An object with a lifecycle. I wanted to go to the Junction True Value because I found it on the website of Sunlawn, an interesting reel mower manufacturer, as a local distributor. They were out stock but I wandered the store anyway and was immediately brought back to childhood and the small town I grew up in and the sense of wonder I had in the hardware store where so many materials were at hand and I had the power to create. I can get over the nostalgia to report a couple facts: 1) A lot of stuff actually fits in the store. You won't find Contractor Packs of 10 here, so more useful stuff actually fits per square foot, and the aisles are tight. 2) The prices on the few items I've picked up here are actually pretty competitive. So, there it is: why I'll go. And I've never seen a Home Depot make keys that work well anyway. read more
