I've been using Junction True Value Hardware since I bought my house in West Seattle 20 years ago. Their prices are decent and their service is great. I've had them help me with every conceivable minor problem for my house--electrical, plumbing, painting, cabinet and counter remodeling, you name it, and they're always just so knowledgeable and helpful. A few items may be a few dollars more than Home Depot, but you're dealing with people who are part of your community and help support it--not some distant multinational corporation with zero loyalty to anyone. Add in the wealth of knowledge and it's not even a close call. True Value is the kind of community-based business that all of us need to support. Just wonderful people. They also put me in touch with a great and very reasonable handyman who I've worked with for fifteen years on projects I couldn't do myself. Just a great business. read more

This is my local hardware store and for the most part they have what I'm looking for - or a doable substitute. I find the staff friendly, a few are even knowledgeable. I used to go to the McClendon's in White Center until I realized that this place has many items (concrete, sand, gravel, ect...) out of sight in the shed around back - you just have to know to ask for it at the cashiers. It is close quarters and compact, so I only bring a car if I'm purchasing something I can't pull in my radio flyer wagon. read more

Local-owned hardware stores are among my favorite business establishments, because besides the hardware stuff and friendly staff, you can usually find so much more, like a kitchen housewares and bathroom stuff you may be too lazy to drive to Target for, or fun gadgets you never realized you needed. If you've been hunting for a good food waste bucket for your kitchen, they've got a nice selection here (plus the biodegradable bags). After all that, you don't have to walk half a mile to get to the front door, and if it's Sunday, the farmer's market is catty corner across the street! Also, there's a tiny parking lot on the left if you had to drive there to get stuff. Bonus points for the gigantic bat they used for their Halloween display. read more

SMALL STORES, TONS OF SELECTION. Such a great example of a good neighborhood hardware store. The first time I walked in, I was worried I wouldn't find what I needed because it's so small. However, they've got it well stocked, organized and labeled. Amazing selection, including a couple brands of paint. And all of the staff is helpful. I've never felt like they were pushy or rude, but they are always ready to lend a hand. This is the perfect balance of customer service for me. The only challenge with this location is parking. They've only got a few spaces and the rest is street. A little tricky if your stocking up. And on Sundays, the farmers market takes up one big free lot nearby, so it can be even tougher. That said, if you know when to go or don't mind working around the crowds, it's not a big problem. read more

I love everything about this store except for the fact that they sell RoundUp. The staff is great! It's a co-op and I'm a member! It's so convenient! They have so many necessary items! It's a West Seattle institution! I love going in because it feels good! Why the heck do they still sell RoundUp (glyphosate) when study after study (no, not the industry studies, but the independent studies) show the chemical to destroy ocean reefs, bee colonies and everything else it comes into contact with down-line from its application? Convenient local hardware store with lots of variety of tools and things for the home. I stopped by a few times in April to select paint samples and ultimately purchased my paint supplies here. Staff is helpful and the cashier even offered to have someone assist me with all my paint supplies out the store since I would be carrying it out on my own. She was very insistent as it started to pour after I paid for my purchases. I guess there was a misunderstanding as staff are only allowed to assist you out the store to your car and not off the property. I was only two blocks away but oh well! I was prepared to carry it out on my own anyway. The low stars are due to the fact I'm now stuck with an unopened $75 gallon of mixed paint that I don't have a use for. I purchased this at the recommendation of a insistent paint staffer as he thought it was more economical than purchasing an extra pint so I wouldn't need to come back if I run out. Ok I thought...why would he lead me wrong? Turns out I only just needed the 1 gallon which still had enough paint for touch ups. I called to see if they could take it back or suggest where I can donate it as I live in an apartment and don't need it for maintenance. No returns since it's mixed paint. Understandable but I can't even find a place to donate unused paint without having to pay extra to do so! I spent over $250 here as well...just very annoyed I spent extra money I didn't need to at their advice and now stuck with a new gallon of paint to either dispose of or hopefully find a home for. So I guess the lesson here is maybe True Value doesn't always have the best read more

I have always loved West Seattle True Value, but I won't be shopping there again anytime soon. No Masks on at least 5 young healthy looking employees. And they passed by close to me with no attempt to maintain extra distancing. I spoke with the manager and was told they can't force their employees to wear masks because they can claim 'medical conditions' that make it difficult for them. Really?? 5 healthy looking 20-30 year old guys all have medical conditions?? Very disappointing because I try to avoid Home Depot. I'm 68 and would like to think that businesses are trying to be good neighbors to the whole community. read more

You won't get service like this at the Home Depot! We just moved into the neighborhood and have visited True Value several times now. I love how friendly and accommodating the staff is, even on a crazy Memorial Day weekend. Also, the flowers here seem so much more healthy than other home stores. True Value is a great reminder why neighborhood hardware stores are preferable to huge box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. In a relatively small space, True Value has an amazing variety of tools, knick knacks, and useful items. If there are items you can't find in person, you can usually go on-line and find that item at a great price through the True Value web site, and either have the item delivered home or at the store. (I recently bought a 'reel' mower; I didn't need the motorized kind, and True Value, like Home Depot, didn't have it in stock, but I was able to get one quickly tis way.) The service at the store is friendly, easy to find, knowledgeable and always helpful. And the location at the Junction in Seattle lends itself to getting a lot done in one trip. It's nice to see stores like this one holding their own. read more

The staff at TrueValue Hardware located on the corner at 44th Ave SW near the Alaska Way Junction in West Seattle always has whatever I need and a great staff who are always there to help, whenever I show up. I have learned to do many projects on my own with help from the staff at West Seattle's TrueValue Hardware over my years of shopping there thanks to the staff members who are very knowledgable and willing to listen. The store is always very well stocked and has a great assortment of specialized and seasonal goods for those of us who live in West Seattle. So I went there today to kill time before a meeting to get some ideas for my new home. A lady was walking backward and almost stepped on my feet (no biggie) so I said "oops excuse me" just to show her I was there. She turned around, gave me the worst dirty look and then didn't move. I said "can I get by you." She abruptly moves like I was inconveniencing her. I tried to brush it off for the 15 minutes I was in the store, but I was getting more and more upset that I was treated that way by someone that worked there!! I was so upset I walked around the store to find her to ask her name. Pam was so incredibly rude, I'll never go back again. Very disappointed. read more

They have a great rewards program and regularly send $5 coupons, so we keep coming back. Whenever we need help, we can always find someone who is kind and knowledgeable. I usually go to Junction True Value over Home Depot because I like the store and the employees, however my last experience there was much less than enjoyable. I ended up at Home Depot to buy some Tiki Torches, but they were sold out of the fuel for them. I called True Value and they said they had both, and when I asked the price of the torches they would only say "all different prices" and wouldn't go check. Home Depot was selling the torches for $2.24 a piece, and I figured it couldn't be much more than that. When I get there and walk over, the cheapest one was "on sale" for $6.49, and was the EXACT same brand and product model as the ones I had just been looking at at Home Depot. Now maybe even a dollar more and I would have paid it, but over $4 more is a little much when I'm buying a bunch of them (it would add up very fast). I bring them to the cashier and explain the price difference and that I was hoping to get it knocked down a bit instead of going back over to Home Depot. She says if it's the same product, they will match the price and goes off and talks to the manager and comes back telling me I need proof of the price at Home Depot. So using my phone, I pull up their website with the product on it and show it to her. She has me walk back with her to show the manager, and he comes out with me, points to the wrong tag and say it doesn't match. I show him the correct tag and the product online and point out that it's the same. He says the numbers don't match, and just walks away. Tiki brand torches have different names for each of their torch models, and it was THE SAME MODEL. He didn't even look at the photo of the product. I have never been treated so poorly at that store. He was incredibly rude about it, and acted as though me bringing my business to them was a terrific inconvenience. Well thanks to him I won't be inconveniencing them again anytime soon. I bought my torch fuel there, and went right back to Home Depot to buy my torches. A five minute drive was worth it to me to save that much money. The cashier apologized to us, which was appreciated. I find it pretty shocking that the manager of the store would treat a customer that way. If he was polite, and told me they simply couldn't do it for whatever reason, I wouldn't even be that upset. read more

I really can't get over the level of customer service I get here. Went in to buy a new string trimmer today and JD took great care of me. He took the time to make sure I made the right decision on which one fit my needs the best, walked me through the maintenance and care, then took me outside and actually fired it up and let me listen to it run. I went in to get Christmas lights for my kid who was with grandparents for the holidays.. I wanted to make the house look magical for her return.. I spent about 30 minutes looking for the right lights..sales person seemed annoyed that I wanted to test two strings of lights so I knew they would work.. She didn't even know the difference between cool and warm light (wow) I went up to purchase the pretty lights (68.00) only to realize I had left my card in another coat.. Oh wait I have a check.. I had ID (many forms) ..the grouchy lady at the register just kept saying" they are very strict about checks" I understood I've written a check here before for propane.. "No sorry" She just kept pushing check back to me.. Wtfudge? So if there's a policy to not accept checks .. Then don't say they are strict.. Do I not look rich enough to spend 68$ on my lights? Her only response was "We can hold them for you" Not realizing that I couldn't drive back out tomorrow.. I drove out of my way to not go to a box store and spend my money at a mom and pop.. So it looks like they don't want our money or the desire to stay in business.. I'm NEVER going back!! read more

Hit and miss. I've only been there for key cutting. First couple of experiences were with an older gentlemen. His turnaround time was fast and the keys were perfect. One he didn't even charge me for. Sadly the younger gentleman ruined it for me. He had an attitude as soon as he walked out from his hiding room (you have to ring the buzzer to get them to the desk). He cut two keys and neither of them worked. Again - key cutting review only - but I won't be going back. read more

This is a pretty nice little store. Well kept, lots of inventory including plants, and the staff seem very attentive. Haven't really been able to compare the prices as of yet but I wouldn't be surprised if they were slightly higher than HD or Lowe's. That is to be expected though in smaller shops. I, for one, am of the mind that I am willing to pay a little bit more for knowledgeable and friendly service. But the service has to be first-rate or why spend more? So far, this location hasn't disappointed. read more

I accept that the limited section is a consequence of its size, that's not my issue. That does not justify the fact prices are often twice the competition (this is, after all, a True Value affiliate - not a mom and pop store) but that's still not the issue. The true problem is their decision to allow a sales rep for a local contractor to provide customer service on the store. Once she helps you find something you are pressured into signing up for a yearly raffle that puts you on a call list from the contractor that is nearly impossible to get off. If you think this sounds petty come in on a Saturday and look around for a minute. You will be followed around until you stop, at which point she will start in on the hard sell. Sure Home Depot sucks. But at least their employees aren't trying to sell you vinyl siding after you leave. read more

The staff went out of their way to help me find everything I needed for my ridiculous last minute ring&hook game installation DIY project. They found the cheap drill and pulled it out of the box to show me how to use it (don't judge me - they didn't). They carried my stuff to the car and even loaded a heavy grill into my backseat for me - thanks guys! i'll be back next time i have an idea for something i have no idea how to build. read more

This is one of the gems in the neighborhood. The customer service is great, like every one else is saying. You can find someone right away, and they know the answer to your question. But the most surprising part of this store is the inventory. It is just SMART. They have limited shelf space, and they cater to DIY folks and real homeowners, not contractors. Examples of stuff I found here that I could NOT find at Home Depot or Lowes: * Simpson Strongtie brackets for attaching deck posts (U-shaped) * large white pads for scrubbing tile * stair gauges * short tile scraper with a handle on top OK, so they actually had stair gauges at Home Depot - but that's not much good when the guy in the tool section says they don't stock them, is it? I saw them there the next time I went by. read more

We love shopping here. We've found the employees to be knowledgeable and helpful. The selection has always been adequate, even though it is not a big box hardware store, and we found that the quality of items exceeds what we find for similar prices elsewhere. The only downside, and hence four stars instead of five, is the limited hours (currently 8 AM to 7 PM on weekdays.) An additional hour on either end would make shopping here much more convenient. read more

As a professional painting contractor I don't usually go to hardware stores, except as a last resort. However, the setup at this store is very good, almost too many choices! They even carry Benjamin Moore, which is a favorite among quality contractors. With few places to get paint and supplies in West Seattle, this is a welcome place to stop and shop. read more

Their paint department is great. The staff (especially if you get the old guys) are super knowledgeable and don't try to upsell you. It's obvious they are just trying to help. In fact, last time we were looking for ceiling paint the clerk actually down sold us. We always use Benjamin Moore, and he suggested the value brand that he thought went on smoother and had a better finish. He was right upon comparison to the rest of our house. Saved us $10 a gallon. read more

This is a great hardware store, feels like small town one. Wonderful people will give you any needed advice, they return all unused items. Usually returns are not needed tho. Good selection of items. Don't come here after work in scrubs and a hooded sweatshirt to price home improvement items such as shelves, blinds, light switches and door knobs. They will be rude and they will harass you. I've bought a multitude of things here before, and liked this place but yesterday, True Value employees, you lost my respect. I only bought my doorknob because I NEEDED it right when I got home. I have never stolen a thing in my life and you treated me like a piece of scum. Highly disappointed. Used to be 5 stars, now I'd give you absolutely nothing. read more
