The other day I walked into this hardware store looking for something to polish a fine piece of brass craftsmanship. I asked the middle-aged Caucasian man at the counter, presumably the manager, if they had any and I was treated with the most hostile tone of voice I have experienced in years. His assistant, a young man who I think is African- or Arab-American, on the other hand, was friendly and helpful. As a member of a racial minority, this was quite a disturbing experience. An instance of overt racism--I have walked into the store before and know how they treat customers from the neighborhood--is rare in Seattle. I am not sure what was going on in the mind of the man and whether it was a reflex action seeing a person of my race, even though the simple question I posed was civil. Reciprocity? No. I didn't think that interpersonal, inter-racial exchanges like this happened since the 1950s. Though I support small neighbor businesses any day over the chain stores, I will not go into Five Corners unless it changes manager (owner). read more

My husband have been going to this store for the past 15 years. Always find what we need and the staff has always been helpful and welcoming. Today I was picking up a product I ordered from Ace online as was suggested by the staff earlier. Went to pick it up today and a middle aged guy behind the counter was dismissive and disrespectful. I am no longer in QA that often, and yet this is my go-to place for home improvement or any hardware needs. It's just a great shopping experience. The store is east to navigate, the staff knows where everything is and if you need paint, they will spend as much time as you need with your options. For me, walking into a hardware store is always dangerous because i see a dozen things I "Need" every time i walk in...hahaha. What a treasure. I can't recommend this wonderful gem of a hardware store enough. The store is super clean, organized and has a huge selection of items. The employees are very friendly and super knowledgeable. I had to replace the parts in our toilet at our rental last week. Years ago I lived in the neighborhood and this was our go-to place. I had not been to Five Corners in a very long time, however, I knew this was exactly where I needed to go. The man working the counter who also copied my keys deserves 5 stars just himself! Genuinely friendly, we bantered and joked while a spare set was being made. I appreciated the small town feel he gave his shop. Beyond that, you got all your basic hardware needs at a less expensive price than Aces, etc. Paint, yard work supplies, lights, nuts & bolts, it's all there. Not the closest joint to me but if I need more keys or home repair needs i'll head out this way for the supplies. read more

Whoever thought I would write a review of a hardware store? But the people running this store are the best out there. I am clueless fixing things around the home and the kind, helpful and knowledgeable folks at 5 Corners help me every step of the way. Just a week ago, i went in to buy replacement pipes for my sink/food disposal system; and was honest with the guy behind the counter about how if i had to cut the pipe to the right size, I would suck so bad it wouldnt be straight (its true, am terrible with the saw). Not only did he patiently hear my lament, but he asked questions about how far the system went into each other then diagonosed that the pipe i had was probably the wrong length to begin with, and if i had to cut the same length it wouldnt work (no wonder i had a leakin problem and a drainage issue). Later he actually took the pipe i bought from him to the back of the shop and cut me a perfect (i mean almost like it was cut with a laser) cut and took the $6 i owed him for the parts. Incredible service. I came back and fit it in first attempt and the leaking stopped as did the drainage issue. On many earlier times I had had similar support, trouble shooting and help. And if it is not hte service, the price is very competitive as well. I remember this christmas; I found christmas lights at the hardware store (i wasnt shopping for one) but they were priced at $1.99 and worked perfectly! Ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome! I've been buying incidentals for my home at five corners for years. The staff is always very helpful, knowledgeable and will always give me the name of someone should I need say; a handyman, or painter. I recently ran up there with a return from October and Kelly took back the two items without question. I know this is a small business, so I don't like to buy and return but occasionally, I buy the wrong thing. For a small store in a small neighborhood, I recommend 5 corners. read more

So, I really wanted to like this place, but based on my recent experience, I won't be going back. I went in to get a few keys cut, and the two women behind the counter were pretty unfriendly and curt-- they must really not like working there. I felt like I was inconveniencing them by showing up at the counter! (You're in the service business, right?) There was one other gentleman who worked there, and he was much more professional/positive. Wish the other two could have been a bit more like him. The woman who cut my keys did things pretty fast and didn't buff them off at all (which I've seen almost every other place do). Maybe she was new to the whole thing? Well, I got home and only 3 of the 5 keys she made actually worked. Was just too frustrated by the whole experience to return to get them re-done. I like supporting my local businesses, but I won't be going back here anytime soon. What a shame! :( read more

Le Petit Hardware Store. Makes me miss the McLendon's that was nearby my old place. Friendly knowledgeable people who don't hide in the stock room or take calls on their obnoxious intercoms while you're asking them a question (ahem, big box stores). Nobody here has ever said said to me, "everything we have is on the floor, if you can't find it that means we don't have it". Never. They routinely climb up on the ladders to rummage through their totes of stock to try to find what you're looking for. Of course this place doesn't have everything under the sun, it's your friendly neighborhood True Value and that's the point. It's there when you are in the middle of a project and run out of nails. You go here if you discover your cat chewed through your extension cord. And you especially buy here if you support local small business. read more

Typically when I walk into a hardware store I'm treated one of two ways. The first, an idiot because I am a girl. And since I am a girl, I must have NO idea what I'm doing - and need to be talked to like a 2 year old. The second, I get ignored. This place did neither! I went in looking for bug spray and I was crossing my fingers they had it since I didn't want to drive very far to get it. They were very nice, and explained all the differences between the three types of spray they carried (don't ask why I needed it). Anyway, the store is small, parking is limited, but I think that is the way they wanted it to be. I like the feel of it, very mom and pop. The selection isn't huge, but enough for a DIY project on a whim. Also, affordable for this type of place. read more

I'm a relatively new homeowner with little clue on how to do basic things, such as unclog a drain or fix a runny toilet. I love having this hardware store in my neighborhood -- every time I go in, I get great advice and end up not wasting my money on a product that wouldn't be right for me. It's like having a local handy man who can give you advice. Once, I almost bought a toilet fixture that would only work with a certain brand of toilet. A store employee warned me and said that I should buy another version, which would work on most standard toilets. And just today, a woman went over with me different options for unclogging a drain. I got home and used the product and boom: no more clogged drain. I just opened a Yelp account so I could leave this review. So yeah, I'm a fan. read more

Near our son's house in Upper Queen Anne - a nice little hardware store. They have a lot of stock in there, even though it's small. It's a real, old-time hardware store, run by friendly knowledgeable folks - always helpful. Home goods, yard and garden stuff, electrical and plumbing things, tools - they've got it or will get it for you. This is one of my all-time favorite discoveries in Seattle. We found it because we needed advice on buying a heater. I called to ask if they could sell/recommend a heater that would last longer than a week. The man I spoke with said, "yes, c'mon in." We did, and learned that moving parts are what are likely to wear out first... and that's why all our other heaters were breaking down. He sold us a radiator-style oil-warmed heater for no more than we were paying for the ones that broke. Years, later, we have it and it's still working great! More recently, I bought a toddler bed from Amazon. It included none of the necessary hardware. I had already disassembled the crib so was desparate to get my little guy's bed set up. I called Five Corners and asked if i could email them a PDF of the assembly instruction sheet to see if they had the hardware i could buy to put it together. Kelly (the nice man who helped me) said yes and then, after reviewing the instructions, yes again. I bussed it up there, and bought the hardware... and was able to put the bed together. I would give Five Corners Ace Hardware 10 stars if I could. One of my range hood bulbs needed replacing and I went to Five Corners Ace Hardware. Once I got the bulb home I had trouble replacing it in the socket. I made a couple of visits back to the store and each time they gave me good advice on how to take care of the issue but none of it worked. (it was a halogen bulb and had pins that needed to line up inorder to complete the connection and I could not get the pins to line up and slip into place). Finally David said he would come over to my house and see if he could help. Instead Brian the owner of the store made a house call. Brian spent over half an hour at our house and finally got the bulb to fit into the socket. Who needs Home Depot when we have Five Corners Ace Hardware, which has been in the same family since the 1940's, right down the street. read more

If I could give no star for the rating, I would. It's disappointing to see that the cashiers at this store are not friendly and polite. Went there few times and every time different cashiers didn't say "thank you". Instead the last employee became argumentative and lectured me that I should thank him. Customers like me keep the small businesses in business taking into consideration the situation with COVID spread. I am not sure what is the deal with company's customer service training, the only thing that comes to my mind that I have been unfairly treated as I have a different skin color. read more

Jill is GREAT!!! I am not a handy person, which is why I buy thing that are all ready for me to use or go to IKEA and get everything I need all in one box. Just so everyone now knows...IKEA sometimes DOESN'T come with everything, which is why I was in need of a hardware store and some help. I took my floating shelf into Five Corners Hardware and Jill helped me find everything I was looking for and more (stuff I needed, but didn't know I needed, because hanging shelves really isn't my thing:). IKEA is European and the screw measurement I needed isn't sold in the US, so why are they selling the shelves in the US, without the screws included??? Anyhow, Jill found one that should fit and hooked me up with a doodad (I can't remember the name) that will allow me to put the shelf into drywall. To top off everything, I left without knowing what size drill bit to use and I'm boring a drill tonight with the bit. I called Five Corners and asked for "the woman who was working yesterday" and Jill remembered me and told me what bit I need. Great service! I'm more than impressed! read more
