Jill is GREAT!!! I am not a handy person, which is why I buy thing that are all ready for me to use or go to IKEA and get everything I need all in one box. Just so everyone now knows...IKEA sometimes DOESN'T come with everything, which is why I was in need of a hardware store and some help. I took my floating shelf into Five Corners Hardware and Jill helped me find everything I was looking for and more (stuff I needed, but didn't know I needed, because hanging shelves really isn't my thing:). IKEA is European and the screw measurement I needed isn't sold in the US, so why are they selling the shelves in the US, without the screws included??? Anyhow, Jill found one that should fit and hooked me up with a doodad (I can't remember the name) that will allow me to put the shelf into drywall. To top off everything, I left without knowing what size drill bit to use and I'm boring a drill tonight with the bit. I called Five Corners and asked for "the woman who was working yesterday" and Jill remembered me and told me what bit I need. Great service! I'm more than impressed! read more

A neighborhood treasure, being the only hardware store on Queen Anne they could easily take advantage, but they don't. They are always helpful and nice, and 99% of the time have what I need. I highly recommend giving them your business so that they stay in the neighborhood . read more

Went to get a hammer and this place is a mess. Just cluttered and unorganized. I'm giving it two stars because it has a lots of stuff considering how small it is but finding stuff is a pain unless someone is helping but it appears that the employees are always too busy to help new people. This is a wonderful, no hassle hardware store. Lots of nuts and bolts for that saturday project. Always pleasant service. They have tools, some home and gardening supplies, and can cut you a new car or house key in a jiffy! As good as it gets for a local, family-run business. We've never had a negative experience, whether it be a quick stop to pick up light bulbs or a longer visit to get paint ideas or thoughts on how to fix something in our home. Old timey feel. Very nice helpful staff. They have what you need and then some. All in a quaint neighborhood location. Love getting what I need here, rather than the big box stores! One example of the last item purchased there was line for double hung widows for our 100 year old Condo. This is not something you can find just anywhere. They not only offered off/white which I used for a bedroom but they also had a white with a little black color twisted in it for decorative flair that I used in kitchen! Thank you True Value for not having to make me drive 10+ miles out of my way to buy tools, light bulbs, and other knick knackery I would need to find at a big-box retailer. Yes, it's a small location tucked away in a side-street -- but guess what? The Queen Anne location doesn't translate into Queen Anne pricing (unlike its neighboring shops). For things like picture frame nails, light bulbs, paints, tapes, etc. the prices were comparable to Lowes, Home Depot etc. which I appreciated. read more

I love this place. Just moved back to Queen Anne and forgot how amazing this store is! Now that I am back, they see me almost weekly and there seems to really be nothing they don't have. Honestly. I love Dave, he has walked me through cleaning my lawn mower ( since I was silly enough to put the wrong gas in) by removing filter, changing the spark plug and draining the wrong gas from the engine. He just walked me through changing my toilet fill valve. He even let me take a video while he walked through the steps so I could refer back to. Being a single mom these little task fall to me and to be honest, I am not "handy" in anyway. I am so grateful for this store and the amazing and down right knowledgable staff. I have never changed a toilet seat in my life. But when I had trouble taking the broken one off, a trip to True Value Five Corners was the perfect solution. Dave gave me great tips to try (the first one worked 2 minutes after getting home!). They really look after their customers. They recently offered to replace all the tools that were stolen from the Puget Sound Labor Agency (about $5000 worth), which were used to build wheelchair ramps for families in need. I honestly can't say enough good things about this place. David went above and beyond to help me find a solution to replacing the front trim that had been detached from the hood of my car. In the end I ended up finding the part affordably through Amazon and David personally helped me attach it to my car outside the shop. This place brings back hometown heart tenfold. The gentleman manning the register even gave me a quick how-to lesson on reloading up my weed wacker cord instead of selling me the more expensive replacement unit. It's important to have a well-run, reliable hardware store wherever you live. Sometimes the two big boys (Lowe's & HD) lack certain tools & bits I need. Lo and behold, this store has it in stock. Or they will find something with which you can use in it's place. Case in point: I was repairing an old air conditioner that was missing some important parts. One of those parts was a specific sized drain grommet. After striking out at both Lowe's and HD, I was ready to give up. But while driving home I passed by 5 Corners Hardware and decided to throw the dice. Did they have the elusive grommet I so needed? No. They did one better actually. Without hesitation, one of the staff found an adaptable grommet with multiple diameter sizes used for drainage hoses! Unfreakinbelievable! This guy quickly improvised a solution to my problem and introduced me to a part I never knew existed. Score. read more

I love neighborhood hardware stores. I like wandering through them. I like looking at stuff. I like that they have the stuff I need to change a lightbulb or install a shelf. I like that they have more stuff crammed into every nook and cranny in a place the size of a postage stamp so I don't have to drive out to the burbs and walk the length of three football fields to find a lightbulb. Except this place isn't like that. It's small, but what few shelves they do have are mostly empty. I would like to say I've experienced the friendly, neighborhood service that others are describing to make up for the lack of stock, but I wonder if I've walked into an entirely different shop. I've been there three times and each time the embittered woman behind the counter greets me with a glare and the first words out of her mouth are usually, "Nope, don't got that." The first time I was looking for screws. Poking around in their little drawers, I found that, actually, they did have what I was looking for. First visit. The second visit was for those little plastic thingiemajigs that are not toggle bolts, those are expressly forbidden by my lease, but you know what I mean, the blue sleeves for holding screws into plaster? "Well, we can't carry everything." Strike two. And the thing that gets me is that she seems to take such perverse joy in turning away my patronage, as if she is personally determined to drive her employers out of business. Today was strike three for me. "Yup, we can order that, but you'll have to buy twelve quarts. Or six gallons." Maybe I just don't look Queen Anne enough. Maybe this is the Seattle Freeze that everyone has been warning me about, that I have not experienced outside this hardware store. Maybe she was just having a bad day. All three days that I've been in there. You can't say I didn't give them a fair shot. Guess it's out to the burbs and the orange vests for me. Sigh. read more

I am constantly pleasantly surprised at the variety of products that I find that exactly meet my needs. Well, I can't say I'm very happy. I went in looking for dry wall screws for metal studs and she gave me ones that work in wood. Granted now I know better (I have a carpenter), but that's sort of what employees are for. Now my contractor has to come back tomorrow and as a small business owner, this sets me back. Their stock cant rival that of a major box store but it doesn't have to. Instead they have what most of us need when you are after those essentials that can so easily be forgotten. Wow, cool old fashioned hardware store. Drove by today and saw a 50% off sale. Picked up a Belgian wafflemaker and coffee grinder for 8.50 apiece! I don't drink coffee but it grinds nuts and hard cheeses. Then it was off to Cash and Carry for wafflemix. Okay I just made my first batch and they are awesome! They have helped me with everything from socializing my puppy with petting and dog treats, to taking the time to help me install a safety belt on my toddler's new tricycle. Amazing service! I dropped into this hardware store sight unseen with a couple of friends on our way to the airport with hardly a minute to spare. We needed help in designing a tube or shipping container to get a fairly valuable kayak paddle home to SF on the plane. The store manager, Dave, (possibly the owner, I'm not sure) didn't have the pvc pipe that we were hoping would help, but he went into the back and found some long rectangular cardboard boxes he had and gave us an idea for fixing it and he turned us onto all the duct tape, packaging tape,scizzors, exacto lknife and labels as well as giving us loads of floor space to perform the operation. He was totally kind and when I offered to pay him for the services, he flatly refused! How great is that?!?!!! What a guy! I don't live in Seattle but if I did that would be my headquarters!!
