Love this place! I've been a donor (of items) and customer since 2007. It's the best salvage spot in the city, IMO, and I've frequented them all for many years, both as a contractor and as a homeowner. Almost all the employees I've interacted with have been pleasant, helpful, and friendly with very few exceptions. Regarding 'haggling' with them, in the few cases where I felt it was appropriate, they were always willing to entertain a fair transaction. Funny how that works-- if you come in with the right attitude! (I'm lookin' at you, 1- and 2-star reviewers! ) Salvage work is hard, and dealing with jackwagon 'hagglers' or unprepared 'customers' makes it harder. Show the BR folks some love; save the self-righteous attitude for Restoration Hardware. read more

The most interesting shop in Ballard you never noticed! Located just off the main drag in Ballard, this location is central and convenient. There is a lot of parking, though there is some sketchy street activity (rvs etc) in that area. This would be an incredibly fun place to shop if you were decorating a home or business... they have mass amounts of light fixtures, windows, doors, hearths, door knobs... plus a section of furniture. And by furniture I mean in any form. Old restaurant booths and stools, large armoires, nice old solid wood pieces. I was hoping to find some local or retro Seattle art, and it was a little sparse today, though I expect it gets picked through frequently. Will definitely come browse again in the future. read more

Ballard Reuse is one of those treasure trove thrift/vintage/reuse shops that you have to keep going to over and over again, because the treasures just keep on coming. They have everything from rescued building and garden materials, to used appliances, furniture, art, and a wide assortment of lighting, plumbing fixtures, tools, hardware, and interesting bric-a-brac. The store is well organized and clean, with a large outdoor area in the back for things like garden tools, tubs, and used toilets. Inside, there's a massive garage-like area with all sorts of doors, furnishings, shelving, and just plain interesting odds and ends. In the main building are shelves, bins, and racks of...well, pretty much anything. The thrift never stops giving here, and even though it's a bit off the beaten path in Ballard, it's worth the drive (especially if you like to combine your trip with a visit to Ballard's beer zone, which is conveniently surrounding this shop). Prices here seem to be all over the place, so don't come expecting an amazing bargain (though, there are a few to be had if you dig deeply enough). There's a small parking area in front, with plenty of street parking nearby. And the staff have always been friendly during my visits. read more

I had no expectations when stopping by here. I didn't know what we would find or what the inventory would look like. It's certainly a mix of lots of things. If you have a project or want some inspiration, you should definitely stop by. The prices can't be beat. We got a solid wood, heavy dresser for $100. It needs some love and one day, we'll refinish it a bit but it's got great bones and you cannot beat that price. There is no delivery options but they will load it into your vehicle. Waited 3 years to come to this store after hearing about this from a friend. This hardware store sells reclaimed hardware and architectural salvage. Old furniture, appliances, doors, houseware, metal gates, reclaimed wood, etc. were laid out everywhere in this building. I can spend hours here going thru all the stuff. I did manage to buy a few vintage hand tools; couldn't fly home with anything big. Definitely will be coming back here next time I'm in Seattle. read more

We've been coming here for months and almost always leave with something awesome! Always pretty fair prices (varies), friendly staff who help us out with questions or heavy lifting. They get new stock all the time so it's easy to find yourself coming back every weekend looking for something great. Very cool atmosphere, I love this store! In response to some of the reviews on here, I overheard that you're supposed to set up an appointment for donating, and they only take certain things (like, multiples of stuff). So check first before just showing up with your stuff, it's not Goodwill. read more

I was thankful to be able to find a cabinet door and hinge for my builder-grade cabinet repair once a while back but recently went in there and thought the prices were out of control expensive for what they're selling. Considering it's been salvaged you'd think it would be over 1/2 off the price for something brand new, but that isn't the case. They were an open to any haggling either. read more

Ballard Reuse always has great brick and cement block inventory and shopping there can save you a lot when you're hardscaping your garden. They also often end up with treats like wild 18th century furniture, $70 leather armchairs, ornate leaded glass windows, or beautiful framed prints. Most importantly, the staff are always friendly and helpful. Even the shop cat shouts a greeting as she walks by. Special thank you to the employee who teared up with me in the outdoor section as we talked about our late cats and the things we do in their honor, lol. Our family loves making a bi-weekly sweep to see the new things that have come in. This is one of North Seattle's true treasures and we're so glad to have it. read more

Donating to these guys are a waste of your time. Don't do it. Was told they could come to our house to take down our kitchen cabinets (top and bottoms). First it took about a week or so for them to respond. Originally when my husband called, they told him he didn't need to do anything with the countertops and that they would take care of it. Secondly, when we finally got the appointment booked, this guy Anthony came and made excuses on why they couldn't take the cabinets out (we had old school tile counters on the cabinets). He said he was concerned about our hardwood floors b/c tile chards would be ripped out and possibly damange them, and that they needed ramboard. Fair enough and valid concern. I pulled out the ramboard from our previous projects to protect the floors. Then he said he wouldn't be able to haul the tile out...which, at that point, I was getting irritated b/c it sounded like he was continuing his excuses, and asked him to talk to my husband on the phone. He darted out of my house and said a guy name "Joel" will call my husband and talk to him. Well, Joel never called my husband to speak about the issue. Oh and then Anthony and his truck bounced without saying a word. NOT. ONE. WORD. I haven't shopped at this store so don't know what their products are like, but as far as their customer service for donating and being completely untruthful, I would give them zero stars if I could. Had we known this was about to happen, we would have been better prepared or my husband could have just ripped out the cabinets himself. **edit: the sad part is my husband came home, lifted the counter off the cabinets without having to break up the tile into pieces read more

I love Ballard Reuse, and I'm so glad they were able to stay open after Re-store closed shop on them, but please stop playing punk rock music. Punk rock appeals to a very small audience, and it's not conducive to shopping. It's edgy, and creates a stressful sounding environment. Part of managing or working at a business is creating a welcoming environment for customers. Punk rock music doesn't do that. read more

Pure treasure, pirate booty, dragon's trove. I've repurposed drawers and old risers into shelving. Beautiful selection of lighting. One staff member took the time to talk me through converting old light fixtures into modern function. I dropped $200 there on now-viable vintage fixtures. I bought the wood for my breakfast bar here. Sorry for the 2-stars not not impressed at all. We have older style door handles in our house that were not working too well, so we thought to get replacements from here (since they are not available elsewhere at reasonable prices). While they appeared cheaper at first, but since you need to buy each part individually, it quickly added up. For example - screws for the handles were an extra $2, and if you need 2 of them for the door handles, and then other parts, it quickly adds up. Moreover, half of the parts I purchased did not even work eventually. I ended up buying from Amazon which ended up being much cheaper, despite being new and higher quality. read more

We have found tons of great items that we have repurposed throughout our yard and house. If you are a DIY'er, you will LOVE Ballard Reuse. Lots of creative recycled "stuff" from old doors, maniquins, shelves, cabinets. door knobs, towel bars, lamps and lighting fixtures, hardware, tools, old claw feet, etc. etc. etc. I found the perfect cabinet I wasn't even looking for. We came here on a Sunday with some solid wood from a shelf we took apart and pieced back together (literally down sizing!) We weren't sure if they'd accept out painted lumber but thought we'd try. After reading reviews on the way there, we were expecting to be denied on the spot and to offer up on Craigslist. The person accepting the donation was very friendly and explained why he couldn't accept some pieces. With lumber, they accept any pieces over 4' Even though we had some pieces they couldn't accept due to size, he guided us to the *spotlight* free donation pile *end spotlight* which is to the left of the garage opening. How nice! I think there are just certain things they can't accept due to having ample supply and I would have given them five stars either way. Thanks for doing what you do! read more

This "hidden" gem in Ballard's industrial district is ran by a pair of caring and knowledgeable cats (and their people). After the restore decided to close the doors on this "under producing" location, two tenured employees took over the reigns and cat care and opened a new lease on life, for all of our benefit. They were fast and efficient, and were super-helpful, above & beyond the call of duty, to help me right a stove that was delivered upside down. It is of note that you are responsible for your own clean up, but given the service they provide, the time/ back strain they saved me, and the assistance in "the Great Stove Flip of 2015," I'm 100% okay with that. read more

Love the idea, but hate the experience of shopping here. The employees are unhelpful to the point of being hostile. Made the mistake of walking in 20 minutes before they closed one day to look at what they had. Three seperate employees came up to tell me when they would close (got it) but no one wanted to help. When I left, still 5 minutes before their closing time, I found that they had parked their giant trucks so close to my car I couldn't get in. Had to ask them to move it so I could get into my door, and they were super put out. Rude. read more

I was bummed when I found out ReStore was going away but yesterday I went into ReUse to check it out and it is fantastic. The pricing and organization are SO much better than the ReStore was. Before buying items there was bordering on being fiscally irresponsible now I will be able to spend a lot more there because things are priced really well and are really consistant. Yep! I'm all about the green. I love that their mission is to save things by reusing them, and I guess they pick up, even as far out as I am! Some of the people that work here are pretty nice. Not all....I have purchased from here and I am PLANNING to donate here, soon., I really do think they should have sales or dicker on prices, as unsold things are "possible" profits, but until the things are sold, it's just hoarding! The turn over for everything is spotty. The cool stuff goes in and out, but FYI, if stuff is still there by the end of the year, OR LONGER!!!, you know the price is too high......after all, it's all about the GREEN! read more

This is the best store in Seattle. There are always really cool finds if you are willing to dig. I visit the store every month or so and always leave inspired by a new project. Today, when I went to pick up an item I purchased over the weekend, the whole staff seemed to want to help me load this on my truck and make sure it was secure. I made it all the way home with out the load moving an inch! They are the absolute best! This is a store worth visiting if you haven't and one to support if you are looking for great items for your home. read more

After a stop at Builder's Hardware Supply, this was one of their suggested stops. It was a pretty amazing place. They didn't have the cabinet hinges I needed, but there were many to look through. Most of their items are recycled so there is a good chance you might find what you are looking for. read more

This place is incredible! First of all, their mission to keep perfectly re-usable pieces out of landfills, is a reason to make this place a first stop before heading to home depot or Lowes. It's very well organized considering the huge space and the massive amount of pieces that they are able to store inside. It's actually a really fun place to shop and find inspiration, wandering their untraditional aisles. If you're into project pieces or re-purposing this will be your new favorite place! They also sell new fixtures like brass handles, pulls, knobs and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, they all seem to really enjoy their jobs and the customers they work with. I have been here twice and purchased unique pieces both times for what I felt was a great deal. I look forward to my next visit! read more
