Problems you may experience if you order Anderson Windows from Home Depot. Anderson's window quality is very good, but as far as I can tell, no one at the corporate level of either company is responsible for investigating and resolving bad customer service experiences which touch multiple departments. Employees at the Home Depot store level (and the corporate "customer solutions" and "customer care" level) are not empowered to do much, nor are the people who support andersonwindows.com. Experience summary: 1) An automatic email which is supposedly generated when your windows arrive at the store and are scanned in.... doesn't work reliably. Its function is to tell you your window order has arrived. Employees at the West Seattle store are aware that it doesn't work reliably. They'll tell you that they can't see it to verify that it was sent. And that's that. They choose not to call or email their customers when their orders arrive - as a work-around. 2) After checking your emails and not receiving any notification, you may assume that Anderson's manufacturing process has been delayed. Don't. If you wait to call you are likely to hear that your order arrived a week ago or more. Is it now buried in inventory (which means that it is vulnerable to damage)? Probably. 3) When you go to pick the order up, prepare to wait an hour and a half (if it's a weekend). 4) If you ask for help loading your windows in your vehicle, get your smartphone camera out and prepare to record what happens next. In my case, one of my boxes had been opened and not retaped while held in inventory. It held fragile parts which go around the edge of the window. The person helping my friend load my windows in his vehicle placed the open end of the box down on the cart. Predictably, several relatively frail pieces slid out and one was damaged. 5) If you wonder whether you have all the parts you are supposed to have (because one of the boxes you received is not taped closed), don't calling Anderson Windows to ask how many pieces are supposed to be in a particular box. They'll tell you that they don't know because the window is a custom order. Fortunately, the documentation in the box DOES answer that question. 6) If a piece from one of your boxes is damaged, expect significant project delays while a replacement part is re-manufactured. Note: I placed my initial window order August 21, 2025. I hoped to install the window on October 1st. Now I'm looking at an installation date of November 16th or later. I requested a replacement part on October 22nd (after comparing the documentation to the available parts). I had to email twice and call before I learned that the replacement part should arrive on November 14, 2025. My lessons learned are as follows: 1) When you order Anderson Windows from Home Depot, order from a Home Depot which does a higher volume of business than the West Seattle store. 2) Ask the millworks department to call or email you when your order arrives. 3) Develop a contingency plan so that when YOUR job is delayed by a couple of months, you can cope. 4) If your customer experience sucks because of the way jobs are structured at Home Depot or Anderson Windows, write your own Google and Yelp reviews. read more

I went to buy tools after I opened the box, and there was a used item inside, when I came back to exchange it for another one, the employee named HUNG, told the co-worker, "Don't exchange it for me, because I put the old stuff back in and gave it back." I was very angry, he said in front of a customer that it was disrespectful to the customer. I hope everyone is careful with him. I'm so mad I forgot the manager's name, but my husband and I visited on Thursday night (3/13) on the hunt for a solution to our clogged dishwasher. We asked an employee if they had any ideas, and they pointed us to the manager. Let me tell you: this man was one of the most helpful people I've ever worked with in a retail setting. He helped us troubleshoot the problem, provided multiple solution ideas, and I hate that this is a thing I want to call out, but like. I'm a woman. He treated me like I knew what I was talking about. Which I do! But at no point did he ignore me to talk to my husband (who was along for the ride, lol, I'm the handy one in our household) , nor question my understanding of the problems we were facing. Please bear with me and this little incident....I'm doing yard work, so I went to the big box hardware store (initials start with Ho) for some shears and figured since I'm there I might as well go to the tool rental and rent the lawn equipment that I need. Big big mistake. The person at the counter asks me for my Clear ID. What do you mean Clear ID? "You need a Clear ID to rent this equipment, its easy to fill out if you don't have one". I hesitate and say ok, I;'m here, let's do it. First they take a photo (both sides) of my drivers license. Then they want my email address, home address, and phone number. Then they take a picture of my face. Then they insists on my social security number. We are now at the 45 minute mark, I'm ready to explode. We haven't even gotten to my credit card yet. The lady next to me is going thru the same thing and she's ready to punch someone in the face. They then send a code to my email that I need to retrieve to enter into their dashboard and it FAILS. "I'm sorry sir, not sure what happened, we'll have to start over" This is the same Clear ID people that collect your data at the airport so they can sell it. This is such an intrusion and a waste of time and a real slap in the face. I tell the person at the counter "I quit, I'm outta here and I want all of my data deleted." He informs me that I have to call Clear and ask them to do it. %#^$%@$...I tell the lady next to me she can get that same item at Pacific Rim Tool Rental for about half the price. I know because I rented one there. She is already talking to Pacific Rim on her phone as I leave the Home Depot exit and head over to Pacific Rim Equipment Rental, which is where I should have gone in the first place.. Jim at the counter asks me what I need. I tell him, he asks for my ID and credit card. We are literally walking out to the tool yard in just over 1 minute!!!. The costs is actually less than half the cost of HD. Pacific Rim is my fav place and I've been going here for years. They're good people and no BS. Don't let your brain short circuit like mine did above. Take the time to drive 1/2 a mile and go where it's easy, save money, and you're appreciated. Home Depot management, please get rid of the Clear ID nonsense, it's a really bad decision. Clear ID is evil. Not going back until you do. This is the closest HD to me, but every time I come in here I'm a little disappointed. They really need to work on their inventory systems. I went in to get a string trimmer combo that was on sale. The website said they had four in stock, but they didn't have any. I wouldn't be so annoyed, but this has happened before on a couple of occasions with wildly different products. I only stopped by this place tonight because they're the only place open until 10pm. Since I was there, I went to try and find a powered stapler and they didn't have that either. Why two stars? The people there were nice and dutifully searched for the thing I was looking for, and were apologetic when they couldn't find it. I asked why the site would say they had four and they said they must've been stolen. They didn't offer to check any other local HD's for me, or suggest other ways to get what I was after. And when I asked when they were going to restock they said stock comes in daily, but couldn't tell me when that item would be restocked. I checked the Home Depot site when I got home to give them feedback, but there's really no place to do that. The 800 number is hard to find too, I just had to google it. I couldn't find a web form or email to give them feedback. And the 800 number has some stringent business hours based on east coast time. Not a good experience all around. I went into Home Depot a little while ago to get some wood to make a very simple plant stand for my window... I didn't have any plans just an idea. The man working in that department noticed I was looking a little lost and immediately asked me if I needed help. He was already with another customer, so I asked him a quick question. He pointed me in the right direction... After not finding what I needed I looked around a little bit more and found the wood I wanted but needed it cut. Had a horrible experience. I wasn't going to finish this review because the whole experience was so traumatic that I couldn't do it. Now it's been 2 years and Yelp keeps asking me to finish this review, so here it goes. I was yelled at by a customer in this store (aggressively) while the staff stood around and literally did nothing. One of the employees actually agreed with the yelling customer. I was nearly in tears while management tried to smooth over the situation by giving me a 25% discount on the Christmas tree I was purchasing. I ordered an oversized mirror and had it sent to this location. Ted from delivery was SOOO helpful in getting my mirror loaded up in my vehicle. The mirror was very large and would not fit. He went above and beyond by using his own personal rope to help me get the mirror in and securely tied down. The girls that work here in the paint department are completely worthless when it comes to making up paint! Or asking them questions they should know especially when working in that department. Stopped in yesterday to get four gallons of Behr interior paint. Brought the original Behr paint to make sure the color is correct. The two ladies started to make all four gallons even thou I told them to stop since the paint color was completely different. And they started to argue with me that it's the correct color even thou it didn't match the original color. Hello idiots- I'm a fucken painting contractor so you can't bullshit me at all!!!! Really bad home depot experience: My wife was pregnant so I ordered a heat pump AC unit from Home Depot. It stopped working after 9 months. When i tied calling MR Cool they didn't pick up. When I tried calling Home Depot, most folks told me they couldn't help me because it was more than a year since I purchased it (I didn't install it for 6 months during the wintertime). Products should work for longer than 9 months (or longer than 1.25 years for that matter, even though this one quit after 9 months). In the future, I'll make bigger purchases at Costco instead of Home Depot. At least Costco stands behind the products they selll. read more

A happy shout-out to employees Stacey and Steven who helped me today. Stacey told me working in gardening is her "passion" and boy, does it show, and is a happy benefit to me and all other customers. She took the time to give me valuable and cost-saving advice to help with a lawn project about which I was pretty clueless. Smallest, or rather most compact HD I've ever visited. On entry it seemed too shallow to be for real. Seemed half the depth as I walked from the entrance towards the rear, which truly seemed perhaps about half the distance. Usually the rearmost wall is otherwise obscured. Upon reaching the midpoint and now able to turn both right and left, the width appeared properly proportioned. Similar floor plan to my 2 Madison locations I can navigate by memory in the dark should that become necessary. This store surprised me when I was paying for the three small items didn't have any plastic bags. Upon looking around I note that none of the surrounding self checkouts had them. Not a problem. A light switch and a couple packs of screws needn't require a bag. Returning my attention to the payment screen I see a "how many bags do I wish to purchase" notice. Ah, duh, I get it. Commerce. Nothings free in Seattle. When I get back to Madison I might be wise to hoard any bags before they become a commodity that I may find of value. I wonder if I could have my wife overnight me a couple dozen, and in turn sell them for a tidy bit of extra income? I'm seeing the future. It's unsettling. This past 18 months or so the "reusable" for purchase eco bags became somewhat illegal, now as covid-19 has somewhat begun to let up, the old school landfill wasteful mentality is not only reinitiated, but has become a "for purchase" requirement. Woke up Friday to a broken water heater with guests coming next week, so while we were able to get a plumber to help us install a new one - The challenge was getting the water heater in time for the plumber to install. At this Home Depot, from the central local operator who immediatly got us to plumbing - where Scott went and physically checked that the "1" water heater that met our specs and said online was there - was actually there. For some reason, we could not finalize the order online - so Scott walked over & got us to Gretchen at their front desk - who was able to get our order completed and then helped us get Express Same Day Delivery shipping and forwarded order to their express folks so we could get the water heater yesterday. Thanks to this home depot's local team; including their Central Phone Operator; SCOTT in Plumbing, GRETCHEN at Front Desk and their Express Delivery Folks - We got the new water heater installed and had hot water by yesterday evening & most importantly - for our upcoming guests! I just got a $250 Milwaukee job site light that my girls got me for Father's Day and when I went to take it out of the box you could tell that it was in fact in used condition, nor did the thing even work. I tried to return the thing to the store with the receipt, nor was I trying to get money back for it but just wanted to exchange it for the exact same item. Once, I explained the situation to the person at the return desk. He was good with it and told me to go get another one off the shelf and take it up, and he would do the exchange. I go get it and take it up there. The service person says he has to call the manager to remove the security wrap because he is the only one with a key. He comes over and tells me that he can't help me because it isn't the item that was sold in the box. Well, whether it was the item that belonged in the box or not, it was definitely in fact the item that was purchased inside the box from the store when it was paid for. Then he goes on to tell me to take it up with Milwaukee that it is between me and them that it should be under warranty if it was just purchased. Anyway, thanks a lot, I usually don't have many issues in the store and really like to shop there, but definitely did not appreciate the scrutiny I received. Wow hard to believe this store is so inept. Both the website and their phone state they are open until 10, however when I tried to get there last night they have a taped up sign in the window saying they changed the hours 3 weeks ago but can't figure out how to update either. So then I'm forced to wake up early, I call at 630am (30 min after they open) it takes nearly 10 mins on hold to reach someone. When I ask to confirm they have the specialty light bulb I need IN STOCK IN THE STORE the employee said yes we have 7. Fast forward 45 minutes to me at the store and they have none on the floor and can't find if there's a box with more. After another 10 min the best solution was to send me to west seattle and tell them to "knock off a few bucks" for this $15 bulb, as if that will make up for the 2 hours of my lost time, not to mention gas. Instead I called the Ace Hardware downtown who happened to also be open early and they had what I needed in the store for $5. Shop local friends, it pays off. read more

Had a disappointing experience this past week. I ordered a traeger grill/smoker for tomorrow delivery, where they give you a 12+ hour window for when they'll arrive. I wait around all day only to have nothing delivered. I then reach out about my order and find out that they never even scheduled my delivery in the first place. This particular location just screwed me out of $100 or so; purchased holiday lights from them and the lights worked for 4 days then would no longer light up. Boxed them up in the original boxes and when I got to the store the employees would not even give me store credit. The first employee was rude and had a major attitude, the second one said he could give me 5 cents, because the lights were not currently stocked at that store. He then treated me like a criminal because my card number had changed (debit cards *do* expire, in fact!). At which point I left and could hear him and the first employee trash talking about me and laughing at me as I walked out. Home Depot often send me to McLendon's Hardware without even knowing it. I have to say as a homeowner I find myself here very often. And for the most part I'm satisfied with the service and inventory. But as far as knowledge of home improvement and even of their own products, Home Depot employees are not provided enough training and support. My recent trip included some very basic questions, like do you sell gravel in bulk, you know, by the yard? Just blank looks, stares and anxiety. They're all very nice and friendly but nothing helpful. I also noticed if you're doing a project that needs multiple pieces, like gutters that have connectors and corners, they often do not have many of these intricate pieces needed to complete the job. I'm sure that their data analytics and business analysts look at a per piece price and decide they don't deserve high touch inventory management since the pieces are so cheap. But not having them sends me to McLendon's hardware in white center. And if I'm going there, I'm just going to get everything there no matter if I have to pay 20% premium on everything I buy. And very happily and regret even stopping at Home Depot for these kinds of projects. The geniuses at McLendon's put to toy construction vehicles right at the checkout lane, so kids make sure I get a couple of those every trip! read more

I've been to lots of Home Depots, located in several states, and this was the worst Home Depot experience that I've had. We'd never been to this Home Depot, as we are new in the area, so we walked in and were lost. Eventually we saw an employee, and we asked where the grill accessories were. He said "I think we moved them outside." I think??? Luckily his guess was right, and we found what we needed outside. The things we needed, though, were on the top shelf. My fiance found a large metal stair/ladder thing nearby, pulled it over, and climbed to get the item, while the employee who told us to go outside just stood and watched. We move on to the screws. Again, no one was around. Finally, an employee shows up to help someone else with keys. We waited and asked our question, only to get a "choose that one". The item that was suggested was for a different medium than we were working with, so my fiance asked for clarification. The only reply we got was a "This will work. Use these." No explanation or education given. Isn't Home Depot big on teaching people?!?! The conversation continued, going nowhere, so I googled info on screws online and figured out which screws would work and which wouldn't. When we finally chose the screws the employee had originally suggested, he chuckled and said, "See, I told you to get those." I'm assuming this is a management problem, because looking at prior reviews, this problem has been going on for a while. I'm not sure what training is going on, or if anyone is trained at all. I have to assume the 5 star reviews are coming from HD employees at the request of the company because this is the worst place ever... every time I go there I am greeted with attitude or incompetence... I will cite a few examples: went there to buy Sheetrock only needed 2 pcs. The stack was over 7 feet tall. As I am struggling to get them off the top (this was after unsuccessfully finding an employee to help) I see a employee coming my way. I make eye contact and he does a perfect military about face and heads the opposite direction... another time my wife rented a tool, she mistakenly told me to return it at the sodo location. I get there and find out I'm at wrong location and hurry off to this location. I was 10 minutes late and she charged me for another day, even after I explained the mix up. The staff here will go way out of there way not to help you... go to Lowe's or Maclendons. Trust me. You don't need this kind of treatment from the most rude and in knowledgeable staff. I'm not a fan of The Home Depot. This location is understaffed, the service is unfriendly, and instead of keeping everything together of one category some items are spread across the store. This seems to be the case with everything I need when I go in. Stopped in to get some nails to hang artwork and random bookshelf pegs. After wandering around in the nail aisle and not finding anything I needed, I went hunting for an employee. I finally found one 6 aisles down. Instead of telling me what aisle the items I needed were on, he just took off to show me. Since my foot is healing, I couldn't keep up with him. When I finally got to him, he seemed annoyed. After I explained, his demeanor didn't change. He pointed at the wall where the nails and pegs were then took off. The self checkout lanes need some revamping. They are against a wall so when I was done, I had to turn back around facing the people in line in order to then exit the lanes and eventually the store. There should be doors in front of the checkout lanes. At the very least, there should be an exit so you aren't stepping over the people in line behind you. There's a huge parking lot here. Went to purchase an A/C unit, and every employee was standing around and pretty much unapproachable. When I finally tracked someone down, they were dismissive and unhelpful, I chose a unit to purchase, and had to beg someone to help lift the heavy unit into a cart so I could purchase. I then waited 10 minutes for someone to help bring the unit to my car without luck, and alas, no one came. All in all, poor customer service. The truck rental here is a complete joke. I called ahead to reserve a van here and they said they didn't take reservations. Knowing that, I checked online to make sure they had a can available using the online tool. They had a van and a truck available. Great! I get there and I'm told the can is on hold for another customer. How? They do 30 minute holds. That would've been nice to know. The manager at HD said, "yeah it's a problem customers get mad at us all the time" - and then seemed to swallow his tongue once I suggested maybe you're a failure at training your employees. Okay, so the website said you had trucks available, I'll take one of those. Oh no, they're all in the shop. So these idiots wasted my time so I went to uhaul and got great service from them. Impossible to give better than a 1 star rating even though there were several people who actually helped me during my recent visit. I recognize that hiring good help is challenging in this environment but simply hiring people to have a warm body standing around, surfing the web on their cell phone or loudly chatting about personal issues isn't helping you in any way and it sure as hell isn't helping the customer. At the Delridge store today I needed some information about the best paint to use on an outdoor project. There were three people standing around looking at cell phones and loudly talking about personal issues without ever looking at me, the customer. When I caught ones attention and told him what i wanted/needed he pointed in a direction down the aisle and that was it!!! Even though her wasn't doing anything and it was less then 15 feet away....after not finding what I wanted the older gentleman that I had seen earlier at the counter was back and saw my struggle. He immediately came over, asked what I needed and then made a better recommendation about what I should do and then he took me to the stain area and helped my find the right product.......Meanwhile the same three dullards continued their inane discussions while looking at their phones......man do I feel sorry for that older guy that actually knows what a job and a customer are all about. When I left I thanked the older gentleman and said "hand in there" knowing what hell it must be for him to work with these people. Home Depot : Less saving. Less doing. For starters, I wrote this store a polite letter/email to ask for better customer service and to keep this all offline. I called two managers at the store about this situation. Nobody called me back nor answered my email. So, I am presenting my story to shoppers about to drop thousands on a new kitchen through this store. DON'T! Our kitchen remodel has dragged for many months, and the main reason is because of ordering cabinets through this store. The kitchen designer is lovely, and I have nothing negative to say about her. Rather, their dysfunctional software led to a near catastrophe with my cabinets (the software allowed me to order styles and options that were not available), which led to the cabinet production being halted 4 weeks after submitting the order and then restarted for another 3 weeks of waiting for different cabinets (not my desired design) while my GC tread water. When the cabinets finally arrived, three units were crushed and unusable. Plus, a key cabinet that would make my kitchen optimal isn't made anymore, and the substitute cabinet doesn't fit, which we learned way too late. We had to wait another 10 business days for replacement cabinets. Then, we find out that another part of the cabinetry was the wrong color, and we must wait another 10 workdays to get that piece. Mind you, what we paid for cabinets is akin to parking a new Miata in my house, but this store ignores me like I'm unhappy with a pack of washers. I should mention that we have 4 kids. Yeah... lots of fun with no kitchen and no bathtub to wash dishes in. Meanwhile, this store has made no apologetic moves. The many people who've witnessed this kitchen drama and seen the chaos I'm living in at my house cannot believe how dismal the service has been, and how unrepentant the store is about it. The kitchen designer went to her managers to plead my case for recompense, and they effectively shrugged shoulders: "So, what?" My seasoned contractor said this the worse cabinet scenario he has ever dealt with. Let this be a warning to all. You are not a customer to management at this store. You are an ATM. By the way, I canceled my order for appliances. I found a nice local shop that sold me the same four items for $1200 less than Home Depot. read more

READ THIS BEFORE YOU ORDER AN INSTALLATION. I didn't even think to check Yelp first because I assumed all deliveries and installations were as smooth as Sears. In summary- your delivery and installation will NOT be on the same day, which is super convenient if you're working and don't have two days to devote to having an appliance installed. They're not clear about this when you order it. A year ago, I ordered a washer, fridge and stove from Sears and they delivered it and installed everything in less than an hour. I assumed that was standard industry practice (why wouldn't it be?) but it's not, or at least it's not at Home Depot. I received a call the day before my delivery date (today) confirming that they would be here between 2-6. They would be leaving the dishwasher "in a location convenient to me" overnight and then would be calling me to install it on Friday. I'm nice to service people because the message they're conveying comes from someone much better paid than them, and from someone who never has to interact with customers. But we have a 1200 square foot house with two kids- there's no "location convenient to me" that a dishwasher can sit overnight. Anywhere they put it will not be "convenient" to me. I told her this, hoping that I could have delivery and installation on the same day and she had a non-response that sounded like script she'd been provided with, which tells me I'm NOT the first person who has said that to them. I feel for these people that have to make these calls. The funny thing is, when I took this call I was sitting next to my friend. When I hung up she asked me if it was Home Depot. She then told me her mom ended up without interior doors for three weeks because they brought the wrong stuff to install and didn't have it available for three weeks. I told another friend the story, without mentioning the company, and she also knew right away it was Home Depot. She said "they contract the install and they're not on the same page at all." The left hand does not talk to the right hand. Another fun thing. My mom wanted to order the same dishwasher I ordered for my brother. She had found it in the store about three miles away from my brother's house. The store's ordering system was down so we ordered it online from home. When I entered my brother's zip code the dishwasher said it couldn't be delivered anywhere in Washington State. Yet it sat- on display- in a store in Washington State. When I called the store for help they told me they don't sell the floor models (not what I was asking) and that the manufacturer must be across a body of water that Home Depot will not ship across. Again- none of that answered my question about why it was on display at a store 3 miles from my brother's house if it could not be shipped to Washington State- but I wasn't going to torture that poor woman by continuing to ask her. Thankfully I am a stay at home mom so I can be there both days, but not long ago I was working and commuting and this would not have been possible. If this were not a gift from my mom, I would cancel the order out of principle. Save yourself the agony and order from Sears. The customer service is much better and they deliver and install on the same day. read more
