Customer service has always been great the few times I shopped here but today I couldn't believe the smug attitude I was given after asking a few simple questions by the bleach blonde haired younger kid. He needs to learn respect and proper customer service. I simply asked him about a post support which I didnt know the name of and in a condescending tone he tells me he doesn't know what I'm talking about even though after i descibed it he said yeah we have those. I asked kf it took a cdrtain type of bolt and he said what? I asked if it was anchored to the cement block w a big bolt through the bottom. Immediately he copped attitude and said I have no idea what you're asking so I went to get a bolt and came back to pay for everything and he was gathered around a group of employees, made eye contact w me and then rolled his eyes as he comes back to the register like I was putting him out or a burden to help. I told him the price of the bolt and he then says we don't do it by price anymore, it's rang in by the sku # and said there's signs everywhere so... I told him i dont come here often and why the attitude? Ypuve been giving me attutude since i 1st came up to the register. Of course he said no i wasnt and gave a sarcastic apology which then he marches off to get the sku w an attitude like a spoiled brat That got me pissed so I then decided i wasnt going to buy anything from him and left. I was going to be making a semi large purchase for the deck and railing im building but I'll take my business down the road to Ace even if that means spending more $, or to Home.Depot. I won't be returning to the Normabdy Park Dunn Lumber again. I'm an easy going person and not easily offended but the smugness this kid had was something I couldn't look past. When someone acts like it's a hassle or burden to answer a question w attitude and disrespect, I'll be damned if I'm gonna hand them over a bunch of cash. He shouldn't be up front dealing w the public. Something tells me I'm not the 1st customer he's copped an attitude with. He needs to be out back picking orders or if I was his boss, he'd be kikn rocks. read more

I can't say enough great things about Dunn Lumber! No matter what I need help with, big or small, they work with me to help solve the problem. I'm not confident in home improvement projects and recently found myself with a loose door hinge on the door to the bathroom. Ali and another employee helped me fix this problem and all they had to gain was the price of a few wall anchors. Stopped for a sheet of plywood. Lots of smiling staff were ready to help. I walked up to a female employee's counter; the questions she asked made it evident that she was knowledgeable & cared that I purchased the product that was right for my project. The transaction was fast, price was fair, & I drove into the first bay. Three very friendly male employees loaded the 4x8 sheet of plywood on top of my vehicle & secured it well. They were friendly & respectful. I will certainly be back to Dunn next time I need something. read more

The store is well stocked, but expect to pay more than other similar stores. Dunn employs many workers who seem ill equipped to answer questions on merchandise and lumber. The employees stand around and do not offer assistance in finding items. I ended up going to nearby Ace Hardware and McClendon's for much better service and cost savings on the same items. Since the Covid lockdown began, I've been spending a great deal of my free time on home improvement. I've now been to Dunn Lumber more times than I can count and have always experienced great, old-fashioned customer service. Everyone I have dealt with has been friendly and very helpful, and I'm surprised at how much stuff they have that I could not find at other hardware stores. About a dozen sales associates studiously ignored me while I tried to buy one item. They were all on the phone, or talking to each other, or just staring at their computers. Everyone carefully avoided eye contact, and no one would ring up my purchase. I waited a ridiculous amount of time to buy one little item. At least at a big box store, you can use the self checkout and you don't have to wait on someone. Their prices are higher. I only ever go here if I need one or two items quick, and driving to Lowes would cost more in time and gas than the price difference. It's hard to find anything in the store, and the aisles feel cramped. The selection is limited, and they may not have what you are looking for. If you are a contractor ordering a load of lumber, maybe they treat you differently. If you are just running to the local hardware store to buy something you need real quick, it's like they purposely ignore you to discourage you from ever coming back. read more

I started and completed a DIY deck project in June. Ryan and the rest of the staff here were extremely helpful throughout the process. I was able to save about $10,000 by doing it myself. If it wasn't for his knowledge I would of had a hard time figuring out how much and what lumber and supplies to buy. read more

I'm updating my review with an extra star. I was contacted by Mike Dunn himself & he assured me of some changes both in the attitude of the employees & in the focus of what the store carries. Part of my complaint is they don't carry everything I need in one stop. Some of that is my expectations are too high for the business they are. Huge great lumber yard and a store with most of the basics and some other more focused categories. As a fan of the previous Logan Lumber and now Dunn I will give them another shot in a few weeks and update my review again. This is what yelp is all about. Hopefully business appreciate the feedback as much as I appreciate being listened to. If all goes well over the next 6 months they could be a 5 star company again. read more

I've been shopping this lumber yard since it was Logan Lumber. Service has been in a slow decline and it seems it has reached critical. Employees while very freindly, lack follow through and orders are handled haphazardly. My choice sad to say will now be Mclendon Hardware in White Center or god forbid the big box stores. Update. It has only gotten worse. The incompetence of the employees ability to follow through has now cost me not only time but money. read more

I had this BRILLIANT idea to build a cabinet in my kitchen. Never mind I had no idea the difference between a flathead and a philips. I'll admit, I went to Lowes and the sales staff said "Buy some wood, cut it, put it together" Thank goodness I had enough common sense to stop in at Dunn Lumber. I had so much help from so many people! Not only did I buy the correct grain of wood, but they helped me work through my ill thought out design. They measured and cut all the wood (probably because the guy didn't want to see me loose a finger taking a hand saw to it) They gave me detailed instructions on how to put it together. My cabinet came out perfect, it really did. I'm pretty darn proud of it. They have an extremely knowledgeable staff and their prices are not any different the big chains. If you read my other reviews my biggest thing is getting a lot for your buck. Not just quantity, but quality. Dunn Lumber definitely gets the 5 star Lindsey award for quality and value. This smallish hardware store has it all. You can buy windows, paint, keys, lightbulbs, lumber, and so much more at reasonable prices. The staff have been exceedingly helpful to me. I know nothing about repairs of any sort and never talk down to me or make me feel stupid. Its great to have such a great full-service hardware store so close to work! So, I was contacted by the management of Dunn Lumber, and invited to give my input on what they can do to improve the customer experience. To my surprise, within the week, a few of the items we discussed had been addressed. This location has a new manager, Jim, who's great- extremely friendly, and open to hearing anything that might improve his store. I think it's fantastic they reached out to an unhappy customer, and actually implemented the things we discussed! So uncommon. I'm excited to see the rest of the changes he plans to make- a remodel, faster registers, a new store layout, etc., come to fruition. More importantly, Jim's promised to revert back to weekly jokes on their sign outside- they absolutely make my day! read more

Dunn tries hard to help you and the Normandy Park store has lots of employees always at the cash register waiting to walk back and help you find something. They don't just have the cheap stuff either. There are quite a few higher quality items there. I like to buy higher quality items when I am replacing something, or buying a new rake or something. The original that just broke lasted like...forever, I want the new one to do the same. They are nearby my house so I don't have to travel to Southcenter to get things. Normandy Park store is of course not as huge as those Box stores in Southcenter so they don't have everything under the sun and you probably will save a few cents (about your cost of gas) to go to the big box stores to buy just a few things, but you would be surprised at what they do have. Needed to repair some OLD T-111 but Low-Depot doesnt carry anything that matches old t-111 (12 inches on center), so stopped in at Dunn Lumber one afternoon and met a salesman named Rick. AWESOME...OUTSTANDING customer service. He called around and found just what we needed and we ordered it and got it faster than expected. We can not say enough positive things about the customer service it certainly put Low-Depot to shame. I really wanted to like this store, it's a local business & close to my house; in the past my experience w/ their customer service wasn't good, but I figured I'd give it another try. I was looking for a specific product that Home Depot also carries but went to Dunn to see what it looked like & get some info. It was a Sun., the employee who helped me was somewhat helpful & I did get a look at what I wanted. I had a few questions about special ordering that he didn't know but told me to call the the next day & someone would be able to help. Next day I called & spoke w/ Dean who was super helpful, said he'd find out about special order, etc. & called me back the next day w/ all the info I needed. So today I went in to place the order; I got there about 45 min. before they close. The employee behind the counter was as unhelpful as possible, would not take an order & told me to come back the next day. No real explanation why she couldn't do the order other than she seemed know nothing & just didn't want to deal w/ it. I went to Home Depot & ordered everything there. 5 stars to Dean, although I'm not going back there. read more
