Henry's Tavern was a fun establishment where my family and I enjoyed a couple of cold ones and onion rings. This fun spot is located in the heart of downtown Denver where the Denver Pavilions touches the 16th Street Mall. It was a spot that we had passed by everyday when we walked between our hotel (Homewood Suites) and the 16th Street Mall. Later on in this vacation after walking around the area, we decided to stop by Henry's Tavern for a couple of cold ones. All the times that we passed it by, we never knew how upbeat this establishment is. We joked that this was like Archie Bunkers place. When we stepped off the 16th Street Mall into this tavern we were engulfed in a modern and pub environment. This place was happening in the late afternoon. I guess it didn't hurt that thousands of people were in downtown celebrating the Colorado Avalanche winning the Stanley Cup. We just managed to land three stools by the bar. In this modern and pub environment patrons like myself at the bar took in flat screen tvs that were playing Major League Baseball, tables reaching out to a patio overlooking Welton Street and a microbrewery display. When we visited for the first time, there was a good crowd. And I am sure that many were celebrating the Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup win. The noise level was high enough that I picked up a positive vibe yet low enough where it was easy to engage in conversation with my dad and brother. Our barserver greeted us right away and presented us with a menu. I ordered a Coor's Banquet A.P.V.,on tap ($5.50), which made sense considering that Coor's is Colorado brewed. When I was happily finishing up this cold one, Happy Hour arrived. Off the Happy Hour menu, I ordered a Michelob Ultra Light on tap ($4) and we ordered a basket of onion rings ($5.50) that we shared. The onion rings were exceptional. They gave me the first impression that the food here ought to be really good and that Henry's Tavern would have made a good dinner choice. The beer that I drank down with the onion rings was also great. But when is a Michelob Ultra Light not good? When we hung out in Henry's Tavern it felt as if we were in a restaurant that is locally-owned. It certainly had the Mile High City vibe. I was surprised to find out that it is not locally owned, and that it is a Landry's Restaurant Group brand, whose brands include Landry's, Bubba Gump, and the Golden Nugget Casino. Denver is their only location. I ask myself, "Did we hang out in the original tavern that will be the original one of a chain that will spread across the Country?" We had a good time drinking cold ones and eating onion rings while engaged in conversation at Henry's Tavern. If only we would have known how fun the establishment is, we would have patronized it more than once. read more

I visited Henry's Tavern for the first time the other night when my husbands family was in town. Everyone enjoyed their food- I had fish tacos and they were delicious. My husband had the sausage pizza and he liked it a lot, and my sisters in law split the kale salad (they said the jalapeño dressing added a nice kick) and the veggie burger, which they also said was good. We started with a boneless wing plate that came with fries- yum. I'd definitely go back- it looks like they have a good happy hour and I'd like to give that a try. read more

It's a sports bar offering a whole menu of brews and drinks along side typical bar/tavern eats. Fish tacos, with Mahi-Mahi, were very good, serving a decent-sized piece of fish in taco shells thar were firm. (Most such tacos seem to be served in "floppy" shells. Beer-battered fish and chips had a thin, seasoned coating. Quiet for a Sunday evening, it could certainly offer a loud and lively atmosphere during certain sporting events. It was not a busy Thursday night. We sat at the bar for happy hour. 20 minutes after ordering a couple beers, we still had not received our drinks. They were promptly brought over after we waved the bartender down. We then made the mistake of ordering food. After 40 minutes we had to flag a different employee to check on our order. I mean, how long should a pretzel and a simple flatbread take? I don't mind waiting for things if the establishment is busy or the staff checks on their patrons, maybe even to explain that things are delayed. But no one said anything; we had to find someone to help us and they got upset when we wanted to forgo the ordered food and leave. The manager brought our food and apologized. It started off weird when the host sat us at a table right by the kitchen door at the back of the restaurant in a nearly empty restaurant. The menu doesn't really have much to order other then sandwiches and wings. There is chili and soup, salad and cheese curds (which were amazing) its the first time I have tried spicy jelly and omg it is so good. Def get the cheese curds. The waffle fries are good as well. Wings are alright. The Buffalo sauce wasn't very spicy or flavorful. The chili isnt the best I had but also not the worst. It has a dirt taste at first but its pretty decent. Oh server was ok. Everything here was amazing - from the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer to the exotic mojito to the grilled cheese with shaved prime rib and finally to the chocolate brownie sundae. It was definitely the best artichoke spinach dip I've ever had. It was garlicky and wasn't too heavy on the cheese. The grilled cheese was stuffed with juicy prime rib. And the perfectly bread dipped in that spicy tomato bisque was such a good balance. So glad my friend and I just split this one entree because we were stuffed. Our server Lakpa is simply an order taker who rushed us to order, offered no suggestions and clearly had WAY too many tables in his section for a Saturday night. He never checked back or brought requested condiments. We had to flag him down to order a second round of drinks. We should have just skipped them. We watched a bald male with glasses manager and younger female manager with reddish ponytail ignore us (we were seated directly next to the server station) and all other dining room guests. I guess I didn't realize I was at a dirty diner till a cart of bus tubs was pushed thru the dining room full of nasty plates to clear our table. (SO GROSS!!) The food was absolutely the worst. Clearly nothing is made in house. Don't forget to finish off your meal with thawed cheesecake that tastes of freezer burn. I believe every item we ate was delivered frozen by Sysco weeks ago and then dumped in the fryer for our overpriced dinner. Fried fish and pretzel were fine. Applebees vibe at twice the price. The appetizers on happy hour were decently priced and portioned. I only tasted the cheese fries which were pretty tasty. It wasn't cold or tasted old. Henry's is a very ok sports bar. The food is always consistent as are most of the taps being out... I would honestly give more like 3 1/2 stars because it really isn't bad. The staff is usually pretty nice and it's a sports bar so you already know what you are getting into. The most annoying thing is that every time I go I have to go through the entire IPA section to find one that they actually have. No joke, three years I've lived by this place and every single time.. do you have this one? No... this one... no... and on, lol. Food is decent for bar food, especially the Mac and cheese. We travel a lot and really count on reviews to help us pick out the greatest spots in the little time we're visiting the area. This facility is awesome. Very good vibe. The non service kills it! Ordered the spinach and artichoke dip and it was amazing and flavorful. I got the killer grilled cheese and added shaved prime rib for 5 bucks. Fantastic choice! Comes with a tomato dipping side and it's the bomb dot com. I ordered some au jus on the side to try that out and it was the a great choice! The chips were house made and so crispy (drool).
