I had a really good experience at Acova. The food was delicious, and I really liked the ambience and decor inside. I had the lobster mac and cheese, my boyfriend had the burger, and my friend had the salmon. Everything we tried was really good. One thing I do want to mention is that my friend has celiac, and unfortunately she did end up getting some cross contamination. She wasn't fully glutened, but it's something I'd be a little weary of if you have celiac or are very sensitive to gluten. My daughter and I were in town for a concert and decided to give this place a try. We made reservations, and as soon as we arrived, we were seated right away. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive. We let her know that we both have celiac disease, and she immediately reassured us that there were plenty of gluten-free options and explained the precautions they take to prevent cross-contamination. We started with the Queso Fundido as an appetizer. It came out quickly and was absolutely delicious! For dinner, my daughter and I decided to share two entrées: the gluten-free Fish & Chips and the gluten-free Lobster Mac & Cheese. The Fish & Chips were some of the best gluten-free fried fish I've ever had, crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. The Lobster Mac & Cheese was also very good, although it was quite rich, so a little goes a long way. The gluten-free pasta they used held up really well and had a great texture. Our favorite part of our meal was dessert! We got the gluten-free apple donuts with ice cream. They were absolutely delicious!!! Overall, our meal was wonderful! Everything came out exactly as described, the service was great, and we left very happy. Acova is in LoHi and tucked in a residential on some streets. It's next to some other shops and bars. I arrived on a Friday night and it was pretty full of people. We thankfully got sat quickly without a reservation. The inside is nice and ambient lighting. It also has an indoor/outdoor bar which I'm sure is great in the summer. I mainly came here because I knew they had tomato basil soup and I was having a strong craving. To start I got the queso fundido because of a place has it on the menu, I must try. I asked if it could be done without meat and our server said no - that it was premade. Honestly, this was just okay queso. Definitely not authentic or anything like actual queso fundido. Would not order again. The soup was good! Not the best I've ever had but definitely good. The only thing was we ordered a soup but didn't specify and got the small size. I would specify a bowl if you want a meal sized portion. The grilled cheese that came with it was tasty! The chicken Caesar wrap was fine. Portion is sorta small but glad it comes with a side. Love all the gluten free options, but after trying the Benedict I think their food is just ok. My potatoes were overcooked, and when I asked for replacements the replacements were also a little overcooked (if slightly less so). I wasn't expecting the Italian Benedict to have crispy procuitto, although the polenta was good. The drinks however, were excellent. Loved the wine slushy and I also got the old fashioned slushy, which was amazing. I would absolutely come back for drinks and happy hour, but would probably skip the food. This one may be tough to beat! We tried our luck making a last minute reservation at Acova to celebrate a birthday last night and were completely wowed. Every single sip and bite left us wanting more, and the service was the best I've seen in a while! Our server Nathan(I believe), was attentive, incredibly knowledgeable on the menu, was able to adapt our orders to each person's preference or dietary needs, we have some GF and vegan orders, he ALSO did it entirely by memory, rattling back each of our 7 orders exactly. Each of the GF orders also had very clear GF markers, which was highly appreciated! In short, we were blown away! Service aside, this spot is also beautifully decorated, a more upscale casual vibe, perfect for really any crowd! My friend and I were looking for lunch and stumbled upon Acova. Despite the restaurant being mostly empty, it took a moment before we were greeted and seated. However, the service dramatically improved once we were seated. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and gave good recommendations. After ordering, our food came out fairly promptly. I had the squid fra diavolo and the honey stung fried chicken. The squid fra diavolo had the perfect amount of spice and a hearty amount of squid. The fried chicken was also good. However, I felt the chicken could have come with a bit more honey. This was quickly remedied by the server who immediately got me more honey! But the more pressing issue was the whipped potatoes, which were unevenly heated and even had cold spots. Overall, Acova pairs good service with tasty food. I would definitely recommend Acova if you're in the area, but the food quality might not be top-notch. read more

One of my favorite outdoor spots in Denver. The patio and outdoor bar are top notch and a great spot to grab a drink in the evenings. I've came here and gotten food a few times. A few of the things I've tried include the pierogis as an appetizer, prime rib dip, and honey stung fried chicken. I was really impressed with the food last time I went, Ahi tostada and the veggie stuffed poblano pepper -- which the server recommended the cheese sauce on the side and I agree! However, it really falls terribly short when it comes to vegan choices. While most dishes can be made vegetarian, there's very little available for vegans. I came here because I heard it was a good gluten free (GF) spot - and for the most part it was! There are tons of GF options on the menu, which is a pro. The only reason I have a 3 and not a 4 or 5 stars, is because I have had better quality GF food before. Unfortunately, the GF biscuit I had was incredibly dry...perhaps old? Now my GF people know that we are always just thankful to have options... but at the same time... I want a tasty and fresh option! To celebrate my middle sister's birthday, we stopped by Acova on a Wednesday afternoon. I highly recommend a reservation regardless of the day, because it was a smaller space. Our server was intentional, attentive, and kind, and the ambiance was a low-key vibe. I ordered the Artichoke Heart Fritters and Beef Short Rib, but exchanged my risotto for potatoes because I am allergic to asparagus (which my waiter was fairly attentive to). The Artichoke Heart Fritters (10/10) - had a delicious thyme sauce to go with it that had a small tang to it that elevated each bite. There were more than enough to share between my three sisters and me. Beef Short Rib (10/10) - I imagine that the risotto was delicious, but I can't imagine having this dish without the mashed potatoes. The Beef short rib fell apart with just a touch, and the potatoes really allowed the meal to shine. The red wine sauce also created a base for the flavor that was delicious. I think that the only other thing I would have enjoyed would be to add a salad as a starter. Dinner started with a lemon drop and ended with a lemonade, both were refreshing and delicious. "Let's GOOOO." Tag line from bartender Nathan, and I am stealing his basic, yet revealing line, for daily use. The wife and I walked in and Nathan was dancing in the kitchen. My style, and my type of bartender. Just...FUN. Alex joined him later in our stay and he was the more grounded, dry wit, clever add to the mix. I had the Ratio Sparks Fly IPA, and the wife had the mimosa and slushy wine, although we both noticed how creative their drink concoctions were. And, I won't lie to you. I haven't had many dishes at this place. I just keep getting the Italian Benedict and I love it. You do you. I will do me. I am sure the other things besides the Italian Benedict are good. Wife had the tostados and loved them too. They have a totally separate dining area, two areas for outdoor seating, and a great bar atmosphere. In the background on our Sunday was energetic music that you might not be able to match, but you WANTED to match, and therefore it made your day better. Listen, the place is basic in the best way. Want great service? Check. Want great food? Check. Want fun drinks? Check. Want a cool patio? Check. Alex and Nathan, you elevated our experience and thank you for that. Oh! We arrived with a reservation for Sunday brunch and were seated outside at a long picnic-like table on the heated patio. It was a gorgeous day and we were very comfortable. The patio is well insulated from the hustle and bustle of the street next to it. The restaurant was busy both inside and outside. I understand why--it's great and hip! I ordered an avocado toast, subbing fish for extra egg, and the two people I was with ordered French toast, subbing bacon for fruit. We also ordered coffee and a dirty chai without alcohol. The food was delicious and satisfying and a good value. It would be great if the restaurant offered more vegan/vegetarian options and/or had a plant-based protein that could be used as a substitute. When I made the reservation, only high top tables were available in the bar, but John, one of the managers, rearranged things to get us a quiet table by the window, with room to keep my aunt's walker nearby, and noted it so the table wouldn't be changed. The drinks and appetizer were good. I ordered "The French" and my friend got the "Pink Drink" both were delicious. The wings were solid. They were juicy and crispy. For my entree, I had the 10 oz bison filet with chimichurri. It was mediocre. The steak was cold, and the chimichurri tasted more like a salsa verde. The flavor wasn't bad, but honestly, the plantains and salad that came with it were better. Lastly, the service overall was poor. The host looked annoyed when we walked in, and the server did the bare minimum. At one point, we had so many glasses on the table because no one pre-bussed, and it was slow. Overall, it was decent. We let our waiter know up front that we only had an hour and a half to eat because we were going across the street for a show at Bug theater. I'm sympathetic that it was a Saturday evening and maybe they were short staffed, but it was still painful. Our waiter didn't enter one of our drinks so we had to ask for that twice. We ordered queso which was delicious but only came with 15 (!) chips. We tried to order more chips but had to wait 10 minutes for the server to come around again. Chip refill was $1. I ordered a bottle of Pellegrino but our server came back and said they ran out... yet it still showed up on our check at the end of the meal. All the dishes we tried were tasty: tacos, lobster mac & cheese, tuna tostada, pupusa, and prime rib sammie. I'd happily order these dishes again. The flourless chocolate cake was fine but not noteworthy. I'd consider coming here again but only if I had plenty of time to wait around. read more

WOWSER!!! Acova in Highlands is AMAZING! First the easier part: Ambiance. The bar is also a dinning area, with windows surrounding the 3 sided building. The bar is warm and inviting, with an organized venue to be comfortably seated, or be seated with friends at the tables. The beauty of the wood is enveloping, warm, spacious, views and then the food, BUT, I am not done with the spacious rooms. Once entered to the right side is another dinning room, sectioned off with elegance and still open, with a myriade of long hanging Pothos, a beautiful plant of green with white irrigated hanging leaves; setting the two large rooms apart, yet not cramped in as "walled in"" yet indeed private. Seating up to 50 or 60 people for private parties!!! HINT HINT The area also is brightened by the extended windows. Next SERVICE: I met Lorenzo my server, happy, pleasant, eager to please and warm!! No over doing or coming when my mouth was full of these delicious morsels. We spoke about different cuisines and countries, Lorenzo was engaging and attentive. Delightfully explaining how much he loved working for the Lady who owns Acova and their aspirations, Plus the CHEF!! Now THE FOOD!!! OMGOODNESS, with every adjective I could ever write. Succulent and Crispy were the fried Artichoke Hearts with a Thyme Dijonnaise - ever use your fingers to get every morsel and have more brought to your table; I was in heaven. Next: Perfectly Seared Tuna, yet moist and tender on the inside, and these are small bites; how the chef accomplished such a feat is phenomenal. The crispiness of the outside of the Tuna was DEVINELY SPICED! I could not praise the Chef enough, this also came with a finger-licking-orgazmic Chipotle Aioli, with a ever so slight heat on the forward tongue, added to my delight - Lorenzo brought me MORE!! And YES, my Aspen did enjoy the Tuna and the Artichoke, she has excellent taste in food. We spoke of my understanding of good food, being raised in Europe and Venezuela, plus many states. I WISHED I had more room in my Tummy to order MORE! Especially given we trotted in during "Happy Hour!" There is a discount on Appetizers during Happy Hour, from 3 to 6PM of $3.00. FANTASTIC!! The entire menu is a; "any appetite could enjoy," from Specialty cocktails, Draft Beers, Bottles & cans drinks and food to fit anytime of the day, Lunch Sandwiches, Burgers, Dinner specials and the Appetizers which are a meal in themselves. Came here to eat whilst waiting for family watching a show at The Bug. Huge bonus it was restaurant week in Denver. Got a 3 course meal for $45, that's a screaming good deal. Sat at the outside bar area. The food was fantastic. Loved the chimichurri steak. The app was tasty as was the dessert. Nathan at the bar was great suggesting cocktails to go with my food choices. I'll definitely come back for a date night or a special occasion with friends. I like that it is not exactly in the middle of the highlands because you don't struggle with parking. They have a cute little side patio with heaters and the service was quick. The soup is spicy and the buffalo chicken wrap comes with cucumber which was different taste of what I'm used to but so delicious. We also had the nachos from their appetizer section and they were a little plain but still delicious! Their happy hour from 3-6 consists of $3 off their appetizer menu. Acova is home to one of the best patios in all of Denver. I'd love nothing more than to give them higher praise, but I've left here wanting more on numerous occasions. From the same ownership as The Hornet on South Broadway, Acova took over this place from Patsy's, a beloved restaurant from Denver's yesteryear. Visually and aesthetically, they're doing it right. Execution of food and service though could use a reboot. I brought my parents here when they were in town, because I knew it'd be a wonderful atmosphere for dining al fresco. The meal almost never even took place, because when we arrived we were ignored for about five minutes. This wasn't a weekend, it was a normal night during the week. No hostess, server, bartender, etc. acknowledged us. We were on the verge of leaving, but I walked up to the bartender and eventually it all get settled. This is a huge pet peeve of mine, it's like ignoring someone that walks into your house! My dad and I ordered wings to start and these were the star of the show for me. The wings were crispy and well cooked. I wish I doubled down and ordered a second portion of them to be honest! For mains, I ordered the beef short ribs and they were served over risotto. The short ribs were relatively tender and had nice flavor. The risotto, however, was just not good. It's a tough dish to make don't get me wrong, but I couldn't even finish my plate because the texture and taste was off. We also had an issue with one of my family's dishes that was wrong, but eventually they made it right. I appreciate that the server and the GM actually took responsibility and ownership of the situation. I will give them kudos for that! Ultimately they were nice and tried to make up for the previous blunders of the evening. Am I running back? Absolutely not. I've been here a few times over the years and this experience matches all my other ones. But if you simply want to have a few drinks on the patio and soak up the sun, this is an excellent place to be when in LoHi. read more
