Service was great . Hostess was kind and waitress was attentive . Food was not good at all. We ordered the mommas pancakes and we have gotten them before . They are normally soft and fluffy . This time they were dense couldn't even cut them without sawing through the plate . Husband ordered chicken fried steak and his potatoes were cold . I ordered 2 sides of bacon that cost me $8 . I received 4 slices of BURNT bacon . And I like crispy bacon but when they are black and taste nothing like bacon that's a problem . While eating I could see the kitchen staff scratching their heads with gloves on , sticking fingers in food to taste without washing hands or changing gloves . Gross Overall we won't be back . Ugh. I hate giving less than five stars to a place that supports veterans, but I can't give any more than three stars to Henhouse Café. We were greeted by a friendly hostess and when we asked for booth seating, she kindly replied that they reserve the booths for larger parties. Absolutely fine; no problem. We sat at a table. Literally three minutes later, two women came in and the hostess attempted to seat them at a table behind us. They asked for a booth and SHE SAT THEM AT THE BOOTH! Strike one. We were given coffee and orange juice, but never any waters. Our waitress returned to take our order, and after I stated my selection, she said they were "out of" the Lobster Brie omelet that I had selected. At 9:30am. On a Sunday. At Brunch. That would have been nice information to have before we spent time selecting our meals. Clearly, this was known prior to opening that day... perhaps cross it off the menu or just tell people when they're being seated? Strike two. After re-perusing the menu, I opted for the HH breakfast sandwich. Hubby ordered chicken fried steak. Hubby's chicken fried steak was really good and was topped with a yummy gravy. My sandwich had "chicken fried chicken" on it; logic would dictate the dish would contain the same breading as the chicken fried steak... Wrong. Nope. Not even close. And the potatoes were cooked correctly, but were surprisingly bland. The chicken fried chicken had some strange, overpowering oregano flavor in the dense, chewy breading that even canceled out the flavor of the bacon on my poor palate. Such an odd and strong flavor for that sandwich, that I didn't even realize the gravy had sausage in it until I saw a piece of the meat. Why didn't they use the same delicious chicken fried steak batter that my husband had for his chicken fried steak!?! Between "chicken fried" chicken and "chicken fried" steak, the only thing they should have changed was the MEAT. The sandwich would have been delicious, had they used the chicken fried steak breading. You already have something fabulous! Why try to change it? I had to pull the "fried chicken" out of the sandwich. I just couldn't eat it. The seasoning was all wrong. The texture wasn't great either. We also ordered a side pancake, after the waitress said it was a $2.99 up-charge to take place of the sides. Even though the pancake was much smaller than the regular-sized pancakes (which appeared to be dialed in at about 15-16 inches in diameter), it was still massive; the size of a large dinner plate. The pancake was fluffy and wonderful, but they only provided about 2 tablespoons of syrup for that beast, and it showed up as $4.99 on the bill with the potato side still on my plate (which also went largely uneaten). Between that and the chicken's breading, we are now at a hard Strike three. Fast ball down the middle. No swing. Sadly, it's not worth the experience to bring my own syrup and water for a fluffy, massive pancake, or a second visit. Even though the waitress proactively offered my military hubby a veteran's discount (she noticed his USAA card, which was very nice), we were already convinced at that point that we likely will not be returning. read more

We have really changed our opinions of Hen House lately. We get good friendly service and usually not a long wait. The food is tasty and portion sizes are very filling. Love the new bar and retail area. It's a nice change of scenery. Can't wait for the bloody Mary's and mimosas! Sierra was a great server on one of our visits. I came for the infamous pancakes but after seeing this biscuits and gravy I changed my mind! If you're looking for small pieces of sausage in your gravy this isn't for you! They hook the meat up! Wow, wow, WOW! I am so impressed with this place. I ate here for the first time today. Why haven't I come sooner? My server Matt was very kind and helpful in going over the menu, offering suggestions and recommendations. He mentioned that they have the best omelette cook in the area. He wasn't lying! The Kitchen Sink was packed with flavor. There was cheese in every bite and it was a great portion especially for the price. The potatoes were perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Matt also told me about their very own original green sauce they make in house and said that, "you won't get this anywhere else." Naturally, I asked for a side to test his declaration. I hate having to do this as their food is actually enjoyable but based on their service, I can't even give them 2 stars. To be clear, this is not one of those typical bad service reviews because the waitress didn't smile. Today we had numerous service issues where the final straw was them dropping syrup all over my son and not even apologizing. I am not talking about a few drops but literally syrup all over his shirt and pants. Mind you, this was after taking 10 minutes to bring his pancake out after the rest of us had our food. After notifying several wait staff that I needed a wet towel (including the manager), we finally got my son cleaned up and to my surprise when the bill came, not even a penny taken off the bill. We did get a nice statement from the waitress however, "Well at least it wasn't me who dropped syrup all over him". Which I assume was her way to try to get a good tip?? Best way to celebrate a birthday :( I should have known this was not going to end well when It started with me sharing that their cream for coffee was curdled which was painfully obvious in my cup. The waitress was more upset that I had an issue with the curdled cream than addressing they have curdled cream! I get it, stuff happens but what makes a restaurant shine is when something does happen, the staff and management address it and at least apologize. We arrived and was sat at 11:25am. Place was busy and we were informed after we placed our order that the kitchen was backed up. Totally understand on a Sunday morning. Terry was our server and was accommodating and friendly. After almost an hour later we still have not received our food. We told him we were sorry but after an hour we couldn't wait anymore and to just give us our check and cancel our order. He said we were up next and at this point we needed to leave as we had other obligations. Unfortunately after an hour we were done. He did bring some of the food over but at that point we were going. He asked if we wanted to talk to a manager and we said yes. But again after a 5minute wait still no manager, we left a fifteen dollars on table and left. So the food here was good. Lots of good choices of items. However, very few combos of breakfast items. So essentially everything is a la carte. The all important kids menu is sparse. The included drink is an 8 oz cup that doesn't include refills and was served barely half full. Considering this menu is for kids up to 12, it's a little cheap on the portion for an item that has a huge profit margin already built-in. According to our server, this is "protocol". Hubby asked for a substitute for accompanying items with his entree. Also told the "protocol" was no substitutions. Yet according to other Yelp users, other customers had things subbed out. So either our server just didn't feel like accommodating a new customer or this place is very rigid. Overall, tasty food but overpriced. Subpar service and unaccommodating. Limited menu in terms of a complete offering of combinations. Bill for a family of 4, 2 kids came to about $50. Personally, I think there are better breakfast options out there. read more

Sucks to be leaving this as I am normally a very positive yelper. Let me first state I have been to henhouse on a few occasions and everything was amazing that is why we were going back this morning with a huge party. I understand on busy days the reasoning behind not sitting a party if it is complete. I am all for it. But when 6 of 8 people Are there and 2 are only 5 minutes out and on the way being told we had to wait until The whole party Was there to be seated "very rudely" Was not very professional. There was SO many tables open and no one else waiting. By the time we would have got situated and coffee the two stragglers would have been there. We went and took our $200 order some where else and won't Be returning. Called the stragglers and told them to meet us somewhere else. Again. The place has maybe 8 tables occupied. Food was decent the other times we went but can find much better without the attitude. Employer should give the course "give them the pickle" to all the employees. Absolutely terrible experience today 03-17-23. I went in to place a to go order of a simple order of a kids chicken tender meal. It took them almost half an hour to make the meal to then serve my children raw chicken. My wife was very upset and went in to complain just for them to make up an absurd excuse about their product distributor. Now we are very concerned our 6 year old daughter might get sick from eating half of the tender and then noticing something wrong. I highly recommend you know what products you guys are serving. I would have given this restaurant a 5 star review however I thought it was pretty petty of the restaurant to charge me 2.99 for extra hollandaise sauce. I ordered the crab cake benedict which was very good. I loved that instead of the typical english muffin, they served it on crunchy potatoes. The amount of hollandaise they initially put on the dish was very skimpy which is why I asked for more. The waitress didn't say there was an extra charge, didn't know until I got the check. This was our third trip to this restaurant, and we were super excited to be returning. Our first two visits were excellent and we couldn't wait to enjoy the same breakfast. That was definitely not our experience on this trip. Something has changed with the chef's/management as this is not the same restaurant. Our server was amazing and we felt incredibly welcomed by her. The manager, however, had an attitude and edge to her. Once we received our food, it was nothing like our first two times. The sausage, gravy and biscuits had no sausage in the gravy, the biscuits were over cooked, and the bottoms were burned. My over easy eggs came broken, and the additional short Stack pancake was burned on one side. It was specifically turned over as if we wouldn't notice the burnt taste or look. In addition, everything was lukewarm at best. I would have asked them to replace everything but at that point we were trying to enjoy sister time and just didn't want to be bothered dealing with the snarky manager who was less than supportive. We did, however, have them replace the pancake since it was virtually inedible. Unfortunately, that will be our last visit to the Henhouse. My sister said it literally was one of the worst breakfast she has had and I would have to agree. read more

Sitting at the bar can be real hit or miss here. Today, it was a miss. The young lady who was working the counter (getting all the bread/toast/dishes together) kept touching everything, her hair, clothes, a nasty looking towel, all while keep the same gloves on. She left the area to take back a to-go order, touching everything again, and still no glove change. I don't usually write things like this, but I felt it was important to put that out there in case anyone comes down with some illness. Strangely, their timing was way off as well with regards to bringing out our meals. My wife's skillet came out a good 5 minutes before mine. Not very fun having her food get cold while waiting for mine. My wife and I have been coming to Hen House for years, and 99.9% we have enjoyed our meal. Sitting here at the bar, seems like they have a new kitchen staff as well, because it seemed a little jumbled.
