So we been to the Gilbert location and except for it being too hot inside, the food and service was pretty good on our first time. Came to this one and probably won't be back- not because of the food but service. I ordered the same thing from the Gilbert location- Chicken fried chicken sandwich and asked for no cheese but a little extra gravy ( a little, not a boat) and when I got the check I was charged a $3 side of gravy. But no discount for the cheese??? It wasn't worth the $3 and the server should have said something. I didn't see any managers so I didn't complain. I just won't go back. I would understand had I ordered a side of gravy but all I want d was to make sure they put enough on as sometimes restaurants get a little chincy. I took it out of the tip as I normally tip 20%+. Only giving one star because the food was ok. The service and manager are terrible. First of all they split the bill wrong it was just my daughter and I with another couple and I paid $50 for a meal that her and I split? Confusion right so after I was confused I asked for a manager and they split the entire bill in half I didn't plan on paying for the other couples stuff. The other couple already left and they fixed my bill and then proceeded to charge the other couples card with out telling them THEY messed up I stood there with my toddler for a hour because they couldn't figure out what went on my bill and how to fix it. We came in around 10am on a random Wednesday and the place is hopping!! The hostess got us seated quickly and the server came to take our order after about 5 minutes. The ambiance is super farmhouse, very fitting considering the name :) it's good for big and small groups. LOTS of indoor seating and tables outside too. Even though it was busy the food came out very quickly, within about 10 minutes of ordering. I got the Mexican Benedict. It's a pretty large portion! I only ate half and packed the other to-go. The eggs were cooked perfectly! Nice and gooey in the middle. The eggs are smothered in sauce, layered on top of a tostada which is on top of refried beans with salsa and carnitas. My bf got the Paul Bunyan (I think I'm spelling that right?) which comes with bacon, sausage, eggs and French toast! He enjoyed his as well. His was much more basic. The French toast is just normal size French toast, not giant brioche slices or anything fancy, fyi. Also, the coffee here is strong! But taste wise, not my preference. I'd like to give this place 3.5 stars if I could. I'll definitely try this place again! We didn't order it but this place has GIGANTIC pancakes! We ordered Mom's Famous Pancakes for 7 of us to share, along with some sides of sausage and bacon. It did not disappoint! The grandkids' eyes were about as big as the pancakes! The service is always great as well as every dish we've ever ordered. I recommend the Lemon Blueberry  Mascarpone pancake as it is my favorite. The hubs like the Grandpa Skillet. Some of the best breakfast food I've had in a long long time! A friend and I were catching up and were in the mood for brunch food so we headed on over to Hen House. The wait in a Saturday during brunch time wasn't bad at all, about 20 min. Once sat, the sweetest server waited on us. Super friendly and gave a lot of great recommendations! I ultimately went with the lemon blueberry pancake and a side of eggs and my friend ordered the HH Breakfast Sandwich. Both were AMAZING! The pancake was light and fluffy and full of blueberries. The lemon butter on top was a nice touch. My friend's sandwich looked fantastic and the bite of potatoes I had was perfectly salty and seasoned. The coffee was really good too! The decor is cute and the overall vibe is very laid back, down home and just like your grandma was in the kitchen fixin' breakfast. Very cozy and relaxing. I have been to this location a handful of times. I loved a skillet that they no longer carry (I believe it was called the Popeye Skillet), but the grandpa skillet was still pretty good. Real potatoes in the hash browns, fluffy biscuits, tasty gravy, fresh perfectly scrambled eggs. Coffee good enough. I mean what do you want? Egg in your beer? How can this not be 5 stars. No foo foo grub here. Good solid diner style breakfast in a clean peaceful setting. I'm not gonna say all the food is from scratch like the biscuits or gravy but I will say this: the product on the plate is 5 stars. Biscuits couldn't taste better or been cooked better. I really want to give this place higher stars...the server tried her best, however, the kitchen was very broken this morning and I am going to best that the food is good when it isn't cold... Unfortunately I was left between two bad decisions when my breakfast was brought out and my Wife's wasn't. I could eat in front my my wife, accepting that I am in the doghouse for doing so. Alternatively I could let the breakfast I am paying for go cold...might might be thinking about this time that there is a third option...where we share my breakfast before it goes cold. That wasn't an option folks, breakfast sharing was not brought up during that whole wedding thing...so yeah, just two options... We did speak with the manager who made us a peace offering of some take home pastry and who listened to our concerns, promising that it wouldn't happen again. This strip mall restaurant has become my go-to breakfast place, as it has excellent food, great service and very good value. Be careful ordering pancakes, they're HUGE, fluffy and tasty. I don't know what their seasoning is but... so good!! My mom opted for the potato salad....being from the Midwest... this was not your yellow potato salad.. she sent it back and was given fries instead. The restaurant was pretty quiet, not loud echo from other tables....quite enjoyable. I like the big windows at Henhouse for natural light. The seating is comfortable; all regular height tables and booths. Note there are Specials on the north wall on a pull down brown paper "board". There was a Carnitas Burrito that Katherine listed all the ingredients to me, said they sold a lot of them but she'd never had one unlike the sandwich I was leaning towards. Then she said it was a favorite so I opted for it and she wasn't wrong. It was mostly that it was so much avocado and the correct juiciness for a chicken breast. I took my wife to Henhouse Cafe for breakfast this Friday morning. We ordered waters and the wife ordered coffee. I had to ask repeatedly to get drinking straws for the water. We ordered sausage gravy with eggs and potatoes. The biscuits are now stacked to save on gravy! Me and my buddy come down here for the first 3-4 months of the year and look for a good breakfast 1-2 times a week. Have been to many, some good some not so good. This place is #1. Second the Food and Coffee is awesome. First, Danielle. She is so awesome. I don't think in all the years that I've gone out to eat where that one person stands out. Solid breakfast spot! My husband and I decided to stop in this morning, and we are so glad we did. We split the churro doughnuts and OMG. They were soooo buttery and absolutely melted in your mouth. Might even go as far as to say they surpassed Disneyland churros... and that is saying a lot!! Our waiter was fantastic (didn't happen to catch his name unfortunately). I am visiting from out of town and my family took me here. I had the green chili breakfast skillet bowl and it was delicious. It was layered with skillet potatoes, roasted pulled pork, an egg, and green chili sauce, which was not spicy. I really wanted a tea latte, but they don't have items like this here... I want that from a brunch place. The service was attentive, but you are oddly not allowed to bring in water bottle to the restaurant. Breakfast restaurants have saturated the market, so how does this one stand out? By its HUGE FREAKIN PANCAKES, that's how. The Mom's Famous Pancakes are no joke! They could literally feed 5 people. It's 2 giant pancakes stacked on top of each other, like something you would see on the competitive food eating shows. They are the size of 2 extra large PIZZAS! These should really come with a pizza slicer. The pancakes are the thick textured variety, almost dense like bread, they are really hearty to say the least. Top it with butter and syrup and let the food coma commence! I think everything is homemade or made from scratch for the most part, which I really appreciate. The main reason I don't go to breakfast places, is because I could simply throw some eggs and bacon on skillet myself, but taking the time to make your own product goes a long way and adds value to the normally mundane menu items. The sausage is made in house and along with the biscuits and gravy. To me, the sausage was under-seasoned and the homestyle potatoes the same. The fried steak was tender and moist and with the milk gravy it was a lot better. The pancakes are somewhat of a gimmick, but as for the taste, they are nicely composed with the butter and powdered sugar to top it. The syrup is not overly sweet and is thin and runny but works for this dense cake to help soften it. As with a lot of breakfast places, this place was bustling in the brunch hours when we arrived. There was seating outside on the patio which no one was taking advantage of, but we did not have to wait more than 10 minutes. During our dining, despite being packed, the wait staff made sure to stop often to check up and was quick to tend to us. The restaurant name is great for branding and leaves a lot of room to build a theme within the design of the restaurant, but inside decor and ambiance is less than inspirational. The interior was nothing exciting and rather plain. This atmosphere is very casual, so you can roll through after waking up or walking out of Sunday service, although, it may be hard to squeeze large groups in this tightly packed space. Don't know why this place doesn't have more 5 stars. Food - Incredible. Portion size - impressively big. Price for the size - Great. And most of all, service - priceless. (Oops, this isn't a MasterCard commercial?) Seriously though, the service was so excellent. My BF and I came in RAVENOUS after a night of camping at Flat Iron. Our server was so fast we hardly had to say anything other than our order. When we had to ask for boxes, lids, and a check - he was already on it before we finished asking. He literally read our minds. And the FOOD! Oh man so delicious and so filling. We got the chicken and waffles, California Benedict, and lemon blueberry pancakes. It's safe to say we'll be back again. We visited the Henhouse Cafe for the first time a few weeks ago. The corned beef in the corned beef hash was so rubbery it could not be chewed. We mentioned it to waitress. She was nice about it however the would only let her give a $5 coupon off to come try it again. We went to try it a second time. The waitress we got had an attitude from the very start getting our water etc. Once we asked for a tiny taste of the corned beef before risking ordering it again she was extremely rude. We left leaving the coupon. We will never return. We explained to the hostess on our way out. A simple "I'm sorry but we don't give out samples" would have sufficed. It's rare a restaurant serves something so awful you'd think they'd appreciate customers willing to give them a second chance to get it right. Okay Yelp, there are not enough warnings here for how HUGE the Mama's Pancakes are, and the menu warning isn't sufficient, so I am here to warn all future Henhouse patrons that these pancakes are LARGER THAN YOU (most likely). My mom and I ordered them planning to split them, not anticipating they they probably could serve about twelve people. For real. No regrets, because they are absolutely deliciously good pancakes. They definitely have cinnamon in there which adds some super nice flavor, and they're covered in powdered sugar. We also got eggs and bacon on the side. Loved everything. My dad was going to come with us but they have Pepsi products and they wouldn't let him bring his Diet Coke in. Sad. Just bring more than two people if you're ordering pancakes. read more
