I have never been to a restaurant that would not allow you to bring your water bottle in. I went to the one on Lindsey and Pecos a few days before my birthday, had no issue and the service was nicer. 2 days after my birthday went to this location. Shocked at how rude the host was. When I asked about the policy with the manager she said it was company wide for Health Code reasons. But she could not state the code. I also checked with the friend that recommended this place (she also goes to a 3rd location) she also had not heard of this "company" policy. The food was good. The over the top pancakes were worth checking out. But I don't know that I will bother to go back. If so, it won't be this location. read more

Stopped in on a Saturday morning for breakfast before heading up north. The place was moderately busy. The decor is farmhouse country. Our waitress came by shortly after being seated, to take our drink order. I ordered OJ. The juice came in a blue mason jar, but was only half full. After reviewing the menu I decided in the 2 egg breakfast. I ordered my eggs cooked over-hard, and sausage. The breakfast also included potatoes and toast. I ordered my toast dry. When the food arrived shortly after ordering, I dug in. My eggs were cooked perfectly, the toast was toasted perfectly, the potatoes could have been a little more crispy, but that's a personal preference. I loved the homemade sausage. I couldn't eat everything as the portions were large. But everything was good, from the service to the food. read more

Chicken enchiladas. Oh my God! They were absolutely amazing. Never had any breakfast enchiladas better. The flavor and the texture was perfect on it. Presentation was great as well. And every bite was even better than the prior. Definitely order this if you ever come here. The sliced red potatoes had a perfect amount of spice as well and cooked perfectly , not too soft or too hard. Recommend those as well. Overall an incredible breakfast experience. . Only wish I lived in town so I could eat them again. Terry wais my server. He was great. He was on top of things without being hovering. He never let my coffee cup get empty. The food here is wonderful. But if you're more than 2 people you're gonna wait a LONG time. We were a party of 5, waited a little over an hour for a table. Always loved the Hen House but todays experience changed that. First the positives - 1. Only waited about 10 minutes for a table 2. Waitress Jill was very friendly. The negatives 1. Food took well over 75 minutes to get to the table after ordering and the signature pancake was burned on the bottom and tasted like garbage. Jill was very apologetic but the restaurant did nothing for the terrible wait time. A simple trip to the table from the manager with an explanation would have been nice but nothing. Felt awful for Jill the server who had to be the face of the restaurants shortcomings. Plenty of great breakfast places in Gilbert so there's really no need to go back to the Hen House. read more

We had the worst experience with the manager of the Higley location. We have been coming to the Henhouse for years and when the owner Brett is there our service has always been exemplary, the staff has always been very pleasant, not to mention the cooks have always put out really great food. Today we went to the restaurant and it was busy, as it normally is, and we were told it would be an hour and 30 minute wait time so we were waiting at a table outside. About 15 minutes prior to our party being seated the manager, Martha, came out and called for another party of four. Two people stood up, the manager, Martha, asked them if their entire party was there and the couple stated they were not, although they should be there soon. The manager, Martha, told them, "Well let's go ahead and get you seated." 11 minutes later I observed the rest of that party enter the restaurant and sit with the two people who had been waiting for them. I do know it was 11 minutes because I had looked at my watch when they were being seated and again seconds prior to seeing the rest of their party show up. A few minutes later a young girl called our party of 8. The young lady asked if our entire party was there and we told her we were waiting on two, who we had just spoke with, that told us they were no more than a few minutes down the road. The young lady stated it was their policy not to seat anyone until the entire party was there. Our party brought up the fact that the other party had just been seated without their entire party present and she apologized and said that it is their policy. We did ask if our table would be given to someone else because the two people we were waiting on were not far away and she told us she wasn't sure. A few minutes later the manager, Martha, came outside and said, "I'm the manager my name is Martha what seems to be the problem." Our party explained that we were called to go in, but two of our party was not there at that moment and we didn't want to lose our table. Martha explained that it was their policy was to wait until the entire party was there. We explained that she had just taken another party in after they had told her their whole party was not yet there. This is where my complaint about the service comes in. The manager, Martha, then blatantly lies to us saying, "The rest of their party was in the parking lot." I stated, "For 11 minutes?" Martha then became very rude, raised her voice, and told our party we could just go in because she wasn't going to, "stand out here arguing with you." Martha then opened the door and loudly stated to her staff, "just go ahead and seat them because I am NOT going to stand here and argue with them." Members of our party, even though taken back by her rudeness and blatant effort to try and embarrass us with announcing this not only to those outside, but also those inside the restaurant, thanked Martha for taking us in and her response in a very nasty tone was, "Don't thank me." Not only were we all pretty upset with her rudeness up to this point, but then as we were being led to our table by the staff, she angrily tells the people at the front podium, loud enough that myself and anyone else in a six foot radius could hear, "It's entitlement. That's what you call entitlement right there!" We have NEVER had anyone at any restaurant, let alone this restaurant, ever act so childish and rude as Martha did today. Not only that, I have never in my life seen a manager behave so unprofessionally before. Most of the people in our party work or have worked in customer service jobs and deal with some of the worst and rudest of society and none of us would behave in the way she did today. If it hadn't been for our waiter, Matt, we definitely wouldn't have stayed, especially when Martha continued to glare at our party as she walked by even after we had been seated. Martha does not need to be a manager and she is lucky her staff carries her. Matt was an amazing waiter, maybe Matt needs to be promoted as manager because he provided excellent customer service, promotes all the qualities of customer service, and why we have continued to eat at Henhouse. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be returning to the Higley location. If a waiter or staff member had acted in this manner it would be one thing, but to have a manager act mentally deranged in front of numerous customers is just ludicrous. read more

Upon arrival we were told the wait would be about 45 minutes. As others arrived after us and were seated, we were asked and were told they forgot to write down our name on the list. The wait was almost an hour. As I ate my pancakes, to my surprise I crunched on a piece of wood. The owner said it was a toothpick, but it did not appear to be the correct shape. Also, why would a plain pancake have a toothpick in it? The owner took the broken wood and walked away. He never offered me a new pancake or offered to adjust our bill. This was very inappropriate. This was the most exciting eggs Benedict I've ever had... I went with the Texas Benedict. I'm a huge fan of a good hollandaise, and this one was exceptional. Occasionally you'll run into some flavorless ones, but this one was loaded with flavor, and it sat on top of PERFECTLY poached eggs. The green Chile pork was also packed with flavor, and super tender and juicy. All of this sat on top of a southwestern style cornbread. I was shook, because normally I think that a nice crispiness to the English muffin is essential, and of course the cornbread is just a soft bread. Surprisingly the sweetness of the cornbread brought everything together so well, and I just want to go back and eat it again. read more

Wow. So good!!! I have no complaints! It was hard to decide because all the dishes looked amazing. I ordered the country Benedict and was not disappointed, the house made sausage had great flavor. I also really liked the thinly sliced potatoes that were served on the side. My hubby also enjoyed his chicken fried chicken with the biscuits and gravy. On our first visit, despite a long wait for a table and another long wait for our food, we eventually enjoyed the food that was very well cooked and flavorful. The service was attentive keeping us supplied with coffee during our wait. Our second visit really had no redeeming quality. We were told there was a 30 minute wait for a table. After watching later arrivals of the same size being seated we were seated at about the 1 hour mark. The waitress told us they were short handed in the kitchen and it would be about 45 minutes before we could expect our food. She promptly brought us coffee and water. Then promptly disappeared. No coffee refills, nothing. We saw one employee bring a pot of coffee out and refill one patron's cup then return to the kitchen. I went up and refilled my cup then took the pot to our table and poured for others in our group. The non-server literally chased me back to the table to recover his pot, outraged that I had served myself and my party. The final topper was the food wasn't up to our past experience. It wasn't hot and didn't have the flavor that we got on our first visit. Will I go back? No. read more

Wasn't THRILLED with this place. 1st time trying. NO BREAKFAST COCKTAILS. We called ahead to see if they had a waitlist, they did not. It was a 30 minute wait for 5 people but we were sat in maybe 10? We were impressed and excited to get in and eat. Once we sat down she took our drink order and food and from there we waited 45 minutes for our food. There were 3 tables we notice that were already seated with drinks when WE were just sitting down. Just when we were about to get up and leave and just pay for our coffee, the food came. My 5 year old got a pancake was HUGE but dry. We needed double syrup. The sausages I think are hand made and really too thick. I got the biscuits and gravy, the biscuit was very thick but the ratio to biscuit and gravy was just NOT there. Once we finished eating, the table for TWO that we saw already seated with drinks when we walked in had JUST gotten their food. Hostess said they got slammed and it would be 10-15 min to be seated. We waited 30 min. Then when we ordered the waitress said they got slammed and we waited another 30 minutes for our food. No one new had been seated so I'm not sure what they meant by slammed after we got there. Maybe they were short staffed, but it seemed to me they just didn't know how to operate very efficiently. First time here and I have to say it was very nice. The staff was very friendly. The bacon was crisp, eggs were cooked very well the only things that I would say that needs improvement is the potatoes need seasoning but overall the food was very good.
