Caprice Pani with house potatoes
Art H.

8/3/25 First visit. My Church has a men's weekly Bible study breakfast here so we decided to give them a try. Parking 5/5 We arrived 1-1:30 pm with plenty of parking in shared lot. Atmosphere 5/5 Popular family owned small diner with unique and interesting American and eclectic decor. Very comfortable restaurant where regulars gather and owners make you feel welcome and at home. Service 5/5 They were close to ending service when we arrived. They serve breakfast and lunch. We were immediately greeted and seated. Our server Chloe took our drink orders and returned to get our meal order. Nice menu options and both of us ordered the capris pain's which come with their country style potatoes. I also ordered a chopped salad for a little protein. Food 6/5 The meal (food) exceeded our expectations. The chopped salad was huge so we shared it. This salad was really yummy and the vinaigrette was delicious. Pro-tip The chopped salad is a meal onto itself! The Capris pani was fresh. Loved the tomatoes, thick sliced mozzarella cheese, basil(?) on a nicely toasted and pressed bread with a pleasant oil dressing. This deserves another few visits to confirm how wonderful this dish is! ; - ) Business 10/5 We love to seek and support small mom & pop family owned restaurants! I like to feature photos of these entrepreneurs and highlight places who are serving up delicious which they did well. Another thing we enjoyed about this restaurant is a number of their teenage children are servers or helping out elsewhere learning the family business which we don't see often. Stop by and give them a try, great food, friendly service and very nice owners. Way to go mom & dad! $64.55 w/Tip. Eat well my friends- SYOY!

First time at Cafe Hodgeodge in East Mesa. One of the few breakfast options available at 6:00 a.m. Located in a strip mall open for breakfast and lunch. Food was good, prices reasonable and it is not a chain! I ordered the waffles served with two eggs and bacon. I was the only customer, what a treat. Quaint ambiance and good service. Surprised to see two large waffles, the syrup was hot. I will be back.

Wanted some breakfast and try a new place.. This spot used to be fried fish place but guess not anymore. I had high hope for this place with good reviews. First walk in and greated with friendly welcome.. On Sunday so seems like family is working which is cool. Looked at the menu and selections looked pretty good but I already had my mind set on chicken fried steak, since that's my all time favorite breakfast dish and always in search for the best. First I was little turned off by the price. Seemed pretty high for the dish but hey you never know.. Could be huge portion.. Also ordered coffee and half order of biscuit and gravy. Plate came and it was pretty good portion but not huge one. Side of potato was pretty good, with nice seasoning.. The chicken fried steak was nice and crispy but lacked in flavor. The gravy was not too bad but also lacked in flavor. If I'm thinking I need to add salt to my dish then definitely it needs more seasoning.. Eggs were cooked perfect. Biscuit was pretty good, pretty darn big size biscuit. Over all the service was great, nice cozy restaurant, I just wish the food tasted little better. Oh well.. I hate to give it 3 stars but it wasn't 4 for me.

This cute cafe is located in a strip mall with many of the stores closed up, but don't let that scare you off. When you enter the cafe you are greeted by friendly staff and you pick your table. There's variety of options on the breakfast/lunch menu. I ordered the green chili bake and it was delicious! It came out bubbling hot, egg on top (I opted for a scrambled egg instead of fried) with the perfect amount of spice. The others in my party ordered the Eggs Benedict and two egg entree. They had no major complaints, but they stated the potatoes could use a little more seasoning. The toasted bread were thick slices and the coffee was spot on! Definitely would come back again.

When I tell you the pancake was the best pancake I have ever had! The edges were nice and crispy but the inside was still soft and fluffy. It also had so much flavor for such a basic breakfast item. The syrup also came out hot! The hollandaise sauce for the eggs Benedict was delicious and had a lot of flavor. I'm not the biggest fan of breakfast potatoes normally but these were nice a crispy. The servers were so nice always checking in and asking if anything could be better. The little restaurant is tucked in a little shopping complex. As soon as you step in it feel like you are in a local small town family owned cafe.

Friend of mine and I stopped in there because he was told by another YouTuber that the chicken fried steak was really good so I tried it. It was pretty good. It wasn't great, but it was pretty darn good. My buddy had the omelette which was just about a taco omelette, but with a little bit of more mixture to them than normal, he gave him a 7.2 I gave him five stars because it's not always the food that makes the place. It's the people that worked there. The food is good. The people that worked there the service was awesomeand Cafe is like old time mom and pop from back years ago so the ambience was right up there. I'll probably be back and try something else. Try it you might like it.

Chicken fried chicken- it was really good. They ran out of fresh fruit so I got double potatoes

We will definitely go back! Most of the family ordered biscuits and gravy- they all loved it. I had the chicken fried chicken and that's exactly what I'll order next time. Really good! Clean woman's bathroom. They actually had products if needed which was a nice touch. We were a big party- only thing that as service wasn't great. They were busy maybe that was the problem. But we seemed unable to get her attention.

I ordered the sausage, and it was so good--it had a homemade taste, like something my mother used to make. The potatoes were absolutely delicious as well. I couldn't even finish my meal because it was so filling and satisfying. I will definitely be coming back. I also want to give special kudos to our waitress, Lori. She provided some of the best customer service I've experienced in a long time. She greeted us with a warm smile as soon as we sat down and consistently checked on us to see if we needed anything. She was attentive, friendly, and truly amazing. Both my sisters and I agreed that we'll be back, and we hope we get Lori again. These days, it's rare to receive that level of attention and excellent customer service, and she really made our experience special.

Once we were in AZ, my husband took a closer look -- and lo and behold! There was one about a couple of blocks away! Why I couldn't find it, I don't know, but I'm glad my husband found it. As for ambiance, they have a section in the back where they sell items such as baskets and cooking utensils. We were there for a late morning breakfast. The place is popular, but we didn't have to wait long to be seated. It turned out the hostess was also our server. Going in, we both knew what we wanted, which was the "2 classic benedicts", which come with a side of sliced potatoes. To drink, I had a lemonade while my husband had coffee. We both enjoyed the benedicts. The eggs were perfectly poached. We would return here.

I live very close to this newly opened restaurant and I REALLY wanted to like it. Um...no…read more Went on a Thursday night. Not overly crowded. Plentiful lighted parking, which was great. However, the outside of the building (oddly painted over signs, and the cigarette strewn walk should have been a clue). It does look like a rough country bar like in the movie "Road House"...if only Patrick Swayze was there to greet me...(miss you, Patrick) But I digress. The inside of the restaurant is clean, and the seating is plentiful, The lighting is not attractive-- no warmth or lights over the booths-- two ceiling fans with large overhead bulbs. The place where I sat was very dark and not in a good way. I was immediately seated, but I waited a very long (about 15 minutes) before my order was taken and water was brought to my table. From being to seated to getting my food was 35 minutes, which did seem a little long for a basic burger--As I sat there waiting, the sounds of yelling was frequently heard coming from the kitchen. I don't know if the "Chef" knows this, but the sounds really echo in his dining room. It was very disturbing to hear him holler at his staff. Checking out the menu, I can see that the menu is strange. A few steaks, lots of burgers and a few greek items....GREEK food? Yes. Greek salad and a Greek Gyro sandwich..and I think another greek entree. Interesting. I assumed that the chef might have had some Greek heritage. Why else would someone add a few random greek dishes to an otherwise country/bar feel type of restaurant? Let's check this out! I decided to order the Gyro-- but my young and very inexperienced waitress told me that they were out of Gyros tonight. Okay...I ordered the mushroom swiss burger instead. Soft drink order was delivered---HUGE ass cup. Seriously--normally that is the sign that they don't want to have to come and check on you to give you refills. And it proved to be true in this case. Mushroom swiss burger was pathetic--the burger patty correctly cooked to my liking, but that is the only thing nice I can say about it. The rest was extremely low quality. The bun was a burger king bun, the cheese was cold and not melted and the mushrooms were CANNED-- slimy, gross CANNED mushrooms. I cannot believe I paid $6.99 for a burger that was lower in quality than McDonalds. I finished my meal with dessert-- the waitress recommended the bread pudding..and the menu said it was homemade. I asked specifically if it had a "sauce". She said she checked with the "Chef" (I do question how anyone who prepared my incredibly pedestrian and low quality meal could be called a chef, but what do I know?) and told me it had a carmel sauce on top. Hoping to end on a high note, I took a chance. The square cut bread pudding I received did not have any sauce. I never detected carmel flavor..and it was served stone cold. Direct from the refridgerator. COLD. I dont remember ever having stone cold bread pudding. I sent it back and asked for it to be served warm. Less than two minutes later, I received it back. It was not warm, The center was still refridgerator temperature. I gave up a that point. I know this place is new...and I hope they can get it together before they chase everyone away. I will not be going back- My $16.99 meal was an extreme disappointment and I left feeling very unhappy.

Sonsons owner and her mom lived in Cornwall, perfecting their recipe for their products. You can tell you're getting the real deal here. This location on Brown is in a very nondescript spot. They don't have a large variety of choices like the "famous" pasty restaurant in town - they offer about ten here while the famous place has more than four times as many. Please note that Sonsons are about half the price though which certainly pleases me. I've bought pasties like the Cornish Cheezy (ground beef, sausage, cheese, garlic herb sauce), the Steak + Cheese (steak, cheese, potato, rutabaga, onion), or the Chicken Green Chili (chicken, potato, cheese, green chili.) All have been excellent but my favorite of all is the Cornish Cheezy. I highly recommend throwing in some extra gravy for either .50 or $1. We take ours home and bake them for dinner. You can also buy them frozen. The other option is to eat there at one of the small tables they have but honestly, it's not really a restaurant vibe here.
