Went here today, our party was a total of 4 people. They wouldn't seat until the whole party had arrived which was fair, but put my name on a list. Once everyone arrived we were seated immediately, we asked to sit outside and the hostess told us once we're outside we're outside. Almost like a threat? It was a breezy and beautiful day. Our server was David and he Must have been having a bad day. He took our drink orders and came back asking for our order. He was not polite in any way and when I asked for a cup of coffee, he sounded annoyed. He never offered to refill our waters, never refilled my coffee, dropped the bill off in the middle of the meal. Was annoyed when we were still eating that we hadn't put our form of payment in the card holders. One of my friends had their card declined and he felt it was necessary to yell the information? She had other forms of payment, but some social cues does wonders. I honestly say my experience with the server sullied the experience of this breakfast joint. It left a bad taste in my mouth. The food was actually really good and came out quickly. We arrived around 10am and again we're seated quickly. Food was great, service was 1/5. Based off some other reviews it really is luck of the draw for service, the food seems solid. We all enjoyed our food! Personally, I'm never coming back to this location. read more

We were basically asked to leave because a larger party was waiting for a table. Our server came to cash us out, while one of us was still eating. This place is super busy and I can understand why. We came in an early Sunday morning and it was already packed. Be prepared to wait for at least 45+ minutes for a table. The restaurant is bright and airy. I like the high ceilings which makes the place feel spacious. They have outdoor seating but it was a little too chilly to sit outside and it would be a little uncomfortable for me with all the people waiting nearby for a table. We were disappointed to learn that they weren't offering the large pancake but we ordered the mama stack which was also very large. I got the country fried steak which was seasoned well and good sized portion. My husband got the grandpa skillet which had homemade sausage which was also very tasty. Not pictured was their amazing biscuit. That had to be the best biscuit I ever had in my life. It was buttery and flakey and just so scrumptious! (I almost wished I just had that!) My only complaint was that our server was not attentive to us. In fact after she delivered our orders, she never came back to check on us. The biscuit came late because she forgot about it so we were pretty much done with our meal by the time it arrived. We never got refills on our drinks and the only time we saw her again was when she dropped our bill. Other than that... I would've given this place a 5. I was very disappointed with Hen House this time, i have been there several times, I brought my water bottle in because i prefer filtered water and take my water bottle with me everywhere i go, the server told me i was not allowed to have outside food or drink, this was a water bottle, and she told me i would have to set it over by the hostess stand , which i did not do, but i also dod not drink from my bottle, its not like cracked open a bottle of soda, or brought in a food item, she brought me a glass of water which i did not drink because i am a water snob and wont drink unfiltered water, Due to this i will not be returning to this establishment. read more

Wow! First time in and it was a truly wonderful experience. My server, MyLinh, was so personable and friendly. The food was out quickly and steaming hot. Stopped in while on business in the area. Went with the biscuits and gravy with over easy eggs, sausage patty, and potatoes- crisp please. When it arrived, it looked great. The eggs were cooked as requested, the sausage looked unlike frozen premade, the potatoes were as requested, and the gravy over the biscuit inviting. The eggs and sausage were very good. The potatoes had way too much salt and were only edible when combined with the gravy or eggs. The biscuit was the worst thing. It was rubbery and impossible to cut with a fork. Not sure the knife cut it so much as helped to rip it apart. I'm guessing the biscuit option in place of toast is not what they serve with their biscuits and gravy. I think it's the oldest salvageable biscuits they have (possibly the day before biscuits they try to revive with a microwave wrapped in a wet paper towel?). They probably have some good food. Review is for new Tempe location in the Fry's shopping center at Ray & Rural. For some reason it doesn't exist on Yelp even though it does exist in Google maps. Leaning more to a 3.5 than a 3. Wanted to check out the new spot for brunch. Have never been to the other locations. I assume the food is the same quality. They are waiting on their liquor license so no drinks this visit. No problem. We had the huevos rancheros and the chicken fried steak. Both were decent. The huevos came with a large portion of sliced breakfast potatoes which I thought was odd. Not too many versions I've had, if any, include potatoes. Especially this amount. Eggs were perfect, sauce was good, and beans were solid. For the chicken fried steak, the gravy was lacking. Definitely not home made from scratch. More like a slightly doctored up box version. Needed a good amt of salt & pepper. Meat and potatoes were good. Coffee was medium strong and pretty good. Prices weren't bad in this day & age, but it always annoys me when they are posted on the website menu. Interested to know what their alcohol selections and prices will be. It was the day after Xmas and they were pretty darn busy. Had 3 servers on and some things were a little slow coming out. They could use a 4th server unless they expect the bartender to also serve when that part of the restaurant opens. We will give it another try. Not bad, nothing to wow us so far either. read more

The place was really busy and it was a holiday weekend, so I suppose the kitchen was short staffed or maybe not the usual team. Amazing food!!! I had the green chili skillet which had carnitas and it was by far the best skillet i've ever had nothing more to say about that it was simply amazing. The benedict was also yummy, I am not typically a fan of hollandaise but this one was not overwhelming and I would recommend to those who may not typically order a benedict. The french toast was not overwhelmingly sweet and the fresh strawberries with the custard filling was exceptional. The staff was very friendly and overall a great experience. Only thing I would mark down is that they don't have lattes but that fits with the traditional American breakfast vibe that Henhouse has. read more

First time visiting Henhouse Cafe. Unfortunately it'll be the last. Our party of 5 waited over 45 mins to get our food. By itself that wouldn't be a problem because they were busy. Not crazy busy but the small...very small ...dining area was full. The problem was that after such a long wait they brought out food for 2 of us and said they'd be right back with the rest. Not kidding but it was 10 minutes more before any more food came out. And when it did, it still wasnt all of our orders. One person was still waiting for their order and I was still waiting for one of my sides. So to sum it up, we waited 40 mins for ANY food to be brought out and then it took an additional 20 minutes for all of our food to be brought out in sporadic fashion. Server was very nice. Food was average. I brought our plight to the attention of management and they didn't charge us for one side!!! lol read more

Every time we are in the area we stopped here for breakfast. Terri has been our waiter numerous times and always does an amazing job (attentive and friendly and allows us time to enjoy our meal without unnecessary interruptions. People who came after had to wait a little longer for the tables to clear. We sat on the benches at the patio and the weather was pretty good too. We ordered orange juice, veggie omelet, veggie skillet and crunchy French toast. The service was pretty quick and the food presentation was good. The French toast was crunchy but was basic for me. It wasn't any special, so was the omelet and the skillet. The good part was the potatoes served with these omelet and skillet which was delicious. Well done and few crunchy. The rest was as usual. The price is definitely above average, breakfast for three was about $45. The place is good but I didn't see anything great to return back. read more

Four of us had breakfast Friday @9am 3/24. Almost every table was full so that's good news (for the restaurant and for us)!! The hostess and our server didn't really care that we were there but it was busy. Two of us got the Cali Benedict and enjoyed it. One ordered the waffle and I ordered the cinnamon french toast. My friend and I split each other's breakfast so we had the Cali and french toast. Regarding the French toast.... Thank goodness we paid $1.00 more for cinnamon because there was more cinnamon than toast -well almost. 4 thin triangles of boring toast, smothered in cinnamon, adorned with a very sweet swirl of sugar glaze and the weakest runny artificial syrup made. Oh, we had a 2nd item on the plate. 1 piece of bacon, cut in half, and placed on top of each other. I wish I had taken a picture but never thought I was planning to submit a complaint. Granddaughter from out of town came with great grandchild who we had not seen in a while also, breakfast we got our food at about 10:15 and at 1105 we were just about ready to go when the hostess came to to the table and said its Mother Day and we really need this table do you mind. I have been here a few times and was always satisfied but over time like a car it depreciates this place has to. The services was poor, I had to ask for a refilling on my coffee, after no one checked on us after we were initially seated. Food was delivered and the waiter walks away before I could even ask for condiments. So I sat there while my food was getting cold waiting for a sever to come by. Finally someone came by and took care of us. My wife asked for a side of ranch and the waitress walked to the corner to talk with another server that was pounding down a drink then returned 3-4 minutes later to inform us she would have to charge us for the ranch and told someone else to get it. 2-3 minutes pass by and we finally received the ranch. I would understand if they were busy but they were not. The food was bland and the biscuits were horrible, my biscuits and gravy was a waste. After the little bit of gravy I received was gone I couldn't eat the rest because they were so dry. My wife had a biscuit chicken sandwich thing and when she grabbed the sandwich the biscuit just crumbled apart. The waffle seemed a little soggy (I like mine crispy) and lacked in flavor. The chicken was good but a couple bites in I cut into a raw area. The portion was big enough that I just went around it. My husband enjoyed his corned beef Benedict and I wish I took a bite. The girls ordered French toast and the other the pancake, which was bigger than her head. The pancake was huge and very rubbery. She still ate tons of it. I can't think what my mother folks ordered but they seemed to enjoy it. The place was busy on a Sunday morning. This Henhouse Cafe location boasts a very similar feel to their other location on Guadalupe Road. Although they also serve lunch, I have only been here for breakfast/brunch. If you're here on the weekends, expect a longer wait, especially if you have a group of 3 or more! They do have some larger picnic tables outside that open up quicker, but with the summer heat, it might not be that enjoyable. There are many classic food options, such as omelettes, pancakes, french toast, etc. They have a kids menu, too. There are some special menu options, including skillets with various toppings. There's a large pancake option on the menu, but be warned! It is huge!!! It is large enough to feed about 4-5 people. Some favorites that my family has ordered include the kitchen sink and the strawberry cheesecake pancakes. There are some breakfast specials that they have and change after a certain amount of time. Most of the food options come with pancakes and/or toast. I have recently started being Keto, and I was slightly disappointed to learn that they don't accommodate for any substitutions for the toast and potatoes. When I asked the server, he said there was nothing they could do. Unlike other places that offer tomato slices, cottage cheese, or a side of fruit, they did not offer any options to me. Overall, this is a great breakfast and brunch spot. If you don't mind a long wait on weekends, it is worth checking out! read more

I got scolded by some friends/followers about my last review of this place. They were concerned people wouldn't read on to the specifics of the meal (which was pretty good). So I'll just dive straight into the food this time. Our table ordered the chicken fried steak, green chile skillet, and mascarpone pancake. Eggs were ordered with the pancake. The chicken came with toast, potatoes, and eggs. So...the eggs were scrambled (available any style, but everyone chose scrambled). They were fine. Nothing fancy. I requested a hard scramble (I hate "creamy" eggs), and they did it right. The green chile skillet was very good, as was the pancake (my wife really liked it). The chicken fried steak wasn't as good as I remembered from last time, but it was still fine. I noted that the potatoes weren't seasoned uniformly. The ones on top were really good, but the ones underneath were "just potatoes". They also burned my toast (not severely, but it did affect the flavor significantly). Full disclosure, I still am not a breakfast person. All my general comments about breakfast from my first review still apply. So if I liked something here that is coming from someone who doesn't generally like breakfast foods. read more
