Update to my original review of Heights A/C from 2019: Mitch kept my old 2006 unit running for seven years. At least two blower unit rebuilds, a control card, multiple capacitor replacements, and a few pounds of refrigerant every couple years. This year the refill exited far too quickly and I called Heights A/C for a quote. Thomas replaced the old unit and re-worked the ducts for a great result. Heights A/C replaced a fan motor under warranty. It broke before one year. We were without AC for three days at the hottest part of the summer before Sarah and Thomas finally came to replace it. Thomas then refused to fix the fan motor because they didn't install the AC. Even so, they had done AC work 5 previous times, including the broken fan motor. I had to file a dispute in small claims court, which I won. In court, Thomas said one misstatement of fact after another, but the judge must not have believed him. Be careful dealing with them. read more

We have been using Heights A/C to install and service our home air conditioners for years. They have always been professional, reliable, and competitively priced. Most recently, Mitch inspected the A/C at our rental house, and then the very next day the A/C compressor broke due to a random power surge. We had a new tenant moving-in within 24 hours, and when I contacted Mitch, he returned to the rental house within 30 minutes of my communication. Mind you, this was after 5:00pm on a Friday. He quickly repaired the A/C at no charge, since his inspection had been the day before. This company honors their work, and Mitch went above-and-beyond to help us in a time-sensitive situation. You guys are the best! Super nice people to begin with but they fixed what another company was supposed to have fixed already but didn't. All of the ducts needed replacing along with the plenum that I had already replaced. Nothing was sealed on the old ducts. Had to be done again to redo and add more ducts and registers to this 63 year old house along with adding more intakes. As he found additional issues that weren't on the bid, he took care of those and didn't even charge for them. They really know what they are doing and they know what top notch customer service is. I will never use anyone else. A/C is much more quiet,, waaay cleaner and cools off quicker. Friendly, responsive people. Owner was here all day working, supervising and explaining everything to us. Where do I even start. Couldn't have been a better experience. It almost feels made up. I have been dealing with AC issues since my new AC was installed by Chimney Rock AC in 2017. I tried everything, bought new expensive windows, blew insulation in the attic, added two top of the line mini splits to add on rooms. Nothing worked it still felt hot unless we cranked the AC way down and stomached a huge electricity bill. I've had four AC people come tell me what I need to do hence the windows, insulation etc. I called Heights AC today and I finally came across experts. My unit is oversized, my ducts aren't done properly, my thermostat settings are wrong and creating too much humidity. At the end of the day what I really needed was a new properly sized unit but it doesn't make economic sense. They spent like two plus hours here educating me, fixing a duct and setting up my thermostat settings to optimize for reducing humidity. I asked what I owe them, gladly willing to pay and they said they couldn't charge me for that and to call them when I need a new unit. Like what?!?!?! Life long customer based on knowledge alone but doing it free today because they felt bad I got shafted by Chimney Rock AC was the kicker. read more

Amazing customer service!! A little more than a year ago, I had a complete new system (unit, furnace and duct work) installed by Heights AC in my house. The process was fast and efficient (they were finished in a day) and the company was very pleasant to deal with (they left my house cleaner than before they arrived). The unit has worked flawlessly...until yesterday, when the thermostat showed an error and the fan was not turning. After a quick call to Heights AC, the owner and his wife were at my house in less than 2 hours. Turns out, the problem was with my breaker and not the unit at all. They fixed the issue, made a recommendation to have an electrician to review our breaker box and I was back in business. Oh, they also refused to accept any payment for their work and time. My A/C suddenly stopped cooling back at the end of June on a particularly hot day. I called Heights A/C who were quite friendly on the phone and quickly dispatched a technician to come out and take a look at my A/C. The tech ran some tests on the outside unit and said my system was very low on refrigerant. He said it was probably from a small leak that had gotten worse over the years and there was a good chance after topping things off that I'd be good for another few seasons before I needed to replace anything. I trusted his opinion although what I didn't understand at the time was that the 8 lbs of refrigerant (worth over $400) was almost to 80% of the 10lbs capacity of the unit itself. At no time did the technician use a tool to look for a leak in either the outside unit or the coils in the attic. Fast forward to a few days later and the system is no longer cooling again. Technician is dispatched and this time he actually uses his leak detector to find a massive leak in the coils in the attic. The estimated repair was an additional $3,600 on top of the $400 I had spent days earlier. This time I decided to call around to 4 other A/C companies for quotes on the same replacement unit. All of them remarked that filling a unit that low on refrigerant without checking for leaks was very poor practice with one calling it downright unethical. I ended to choosing another company to replace the coils with the same brand and spec that Heights A/C had quoted for $1,700 less which was almost half the price with twice the labor warranty Heights A/C was offering. TL:DR: Heights A/C charged me over $400 to add refrigerant to my A/C system without doing any testing for leaks which sent my hard earned money into the atmosphere in less than 72 hours. To add insult to injury, they quoted me 2 X market price to repair the leak which I thankfully declined and went with another Heights area company who did a solid job for half the price. read more

One company even wanted to change out all copper lines throughout the house leading to the A/C which meant cracking Sheetrock and removing half the kitchen to get behind the wall. I'm reading all the positive comments below and maybe I am the exception. I was having trouble with my AC and the damper system. I was told I had 2 motors go out. I called for a second opinion and was told only one motor needed to be replaced. The second company replaced the one damper motor and the AC is working great. 8am the morning after Christmas, I get a phone call from home - the ac is out. Grrrr. (we are Texicans and get hot here) I thought, no problem, I will call my sister, who managed an ac company for year. She advised me not to call those people they will charge you out the wazoo. Instead, She called Thomas & Sarah at Heights AC. Wow! A contactor and hard start kit later - my ac is up and running and its not even 10am yet! The coolest thing, is that I have an old Gibson unit, and I would have expected them to try to sell me a new one. But they didn't, they replaced only what needed to be replaced, their response time was better than HPD (wait a minute, that's not saying much) and their mannerism was alot less like a business transaction and more like a friend helping a friend. If you live in Houston, you know how vital A/C is! And having a warm day in January is another norm of living in Houston. So when our A/C unit failed us back in January on that warm day, I called around and found Heights A/C & Heating. They were quick to respond, and when Randy came out he was very professional and personable. I asked a lot of questions (since our home was a new-build, and I was surprised that our A/C had already failed), and he was happy to answer all of them. He also wrote down the issues that we were having so that my husband could read it (so my husband did not have to listen to my interpretation of what Randy said... Both my units went out on the same day in the heat wave. They were over 15 years old and had done well. Heights A/C were recommended on Nextdoor and were one of 3 companies I called. They immediately sent me a txt and then called. Within 2 days I had complete new Trane systems. They are not cheap but I wanted quality as buying cheap stuff rarely works out. We needed a simple check up on our AC, although it hadn't been cooling consistently. I attributed it to the extreme temps and assumed it was having a hard time keeping up. The technician found a problem with one of the damper motors sticking - even though I hadn't mentioned the inconsistency. Thanks to this simple repair we have better cooling throughout. We had an issue with a high pitched annoying sound from our AC unit. I called into Heights AC and fortunately for us the owner Thomas was only a few blocks away. He came right over once his prior service matter was concluded. He inspected the unit and diagnosed the issue. Upon explaining the matter and my options, I was left with only one conclusion.
