I have two units so when I've having an issue with one they always check the other no charge. They take the time to explain what's wrong and they give you options as to how to fix your problems. Mike came out the next day and did a full check of our system. Admittedly, we're not very well versed in AC being from the West Coast and Mike went above and beyond explaining everything for us. During the heat of summer last year, our indoor evaporator coil stopped working and we did not have a functional HVAC system for several days. We called Courtesy Air Conditioning & Heating because they had high ratings and a lot of 5-star reviews. Jeremy arrived as the technician and installed a new indoor evaporator coil. However, during the process he said that the unit will make a "buzzing" sound even though it's working properly, but that he'll come back to fix it if we can't stand the noise. Well, sure enough, we couldn't stand the noise, and Jeremy ghosted us. Several months later, we're now absolutely sick of the noise and called a different HVAC contractor to take a look. The new contractor stated that the new evaporator coil had obviously been damaged by the installer which is why the unit is making a "buzzing" noise. It is also highly unstable with missing screws and foam pieces wedged into some of the gaps. The initial installer also did not tell us that the outside unit uses R-22 refrigerant which is no longer legal in the United States - meaning that the entire system now needs to be replaced even though we just sunk $3000 into the evaporator coil. Finally, Jeremy (initial installer) gave us a proposal before the installation which included a 1-year warranty on labor. However, the final agreement sneakily changed the 1-year warranty to a 30-day warranty, just so he could ensure we would have no recourse when we eventually find out that the entire job was botched. This is going to be a BBB submission as the technician clearly took advantage of us in a vulnerable situation. If the company does not want a BBB submission, I suggest they either: (1) Give us a full refund for the entire amount paid, or (2) Come back and replace both the inside and outside unit, while subtracting the amount paid for the prior unit. read more

Our air condition stopped working, I noticed it around 10:00 am this morning. I went out to check the A/C Unit it was completely frozen up. My AC decided that wasn't going to work when I came back from vacation, and I sent out a request to several HVAC companies. I called out the first company that got a hold of me, and they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong. After a continued lack of cold air, I gave Courtesy Air a call back and they had someone to my house in a couple hours to take another look. They charged the system and took a good look at the size of the unit itself, which ended up being the true issue. I guess I had only started to notice after I got a fancy thermometer that tells me how often the AC is running. Anyhow, they were fast, addressed the issue, and for a reasonable price, which is more than I can say for their competitors. I seldom write a Yelp review, this is an exception and I owe it to Brad, the owner, whom after hearing my terrible experience with a previous HVAC contractor that I paid, but did not fixed the problem and left my Tenants living in the heat, he came to the rescue. I highly recommend Courtesy Air for your HVAC problem. I have the best experience...why? For the following reasons: - Background: Prior to calling Courtesy Air, my PM sent his HVAC contractor to diagnose the problem. He quoted that it was low on freon. I questioned my PM if he diagnosed correctly, caused I had the entire HVAC unit installed leas then 3yrs ago. How can the unit be low on freon already? Of course, my PM doesn't know and just get the job done. I incurred the cost. Within less than an hour after the job was completed, my PM called again stating the unit was not blowing cold air. Hmm..I said send the contractor back out since he did not fix the problem. He came back on the 2nd diagnosis and said the motor is malfunction; therefore, the unit needs to be replaced. Go figure...this 'bozzo' definitely does not have the knowledge. I quickly took the matter into my own hands.... - I yelped and I'm so glad that i called Courtesy Air and spoke to Brad. Brad was already fully booked, but he went out of his way to rearrange his schedule to head out to the property and diagnose the problem, this time properly. - Turned out that the unit was not getting full electrical power. Brad fixed that and stay at the property for some time to ensure that the Tenants are getting cold air before he left - Unfortunately, two hours later, my PM called me again, stating that the unit is not blowing cold air again. I called Brad again, once again, he was very responsive and went back out to the property to check. - It turned out that likely due excessive freon... added by the 1st contractor. Without going into the details, Brad had to purge the excessive freon out of the unit to bring the system back to par. - End result: the unit is back to a healthy state and my Tenants have cold air Thanks again Brad for your exceptional service!!! read more

Mike came to service my AC today. A previous hvac repair guy had install the wrong part and it was not working properly. My tenant was suffering in this Houston heat. Mike was very punctual, was very professional and diagnosed the problem right away. I needed a new fan but my unit is 15 years old so it wasn't just any fan. Mike went to a supply house to get the proper fan and installed it the same day and on a very hot day at that. He was always cordial and explained everything to me as I pestered him with questions lol. Bottom line is that I own multiple rental properties and I feel fortunate to have found Courtesy Air and especially a great technician such as Mike. They will do all my AC work in the future. Our house had been 77-78 degrees the entire evening and night before and I couldn't sleep and my 5 month old was very warm. We had just had our dampers replaced too by someone else! Brad was at our house within the hour! He was friendly and very knowledgeable. He walked me through everything and gave me ideas of how to save money- someone trying to save me money in this day!! My son and his GF live in Friendswood and were having issues with the home warranty company taking care of their cooling problems. They wanted $1,200 to fix the old unit that was way past it's prime. Even with a warranty! No air for several weeks in Texas!! I live in Illinois but needed to get involved to get their air on ASAP. This place is conducting unethical business practice. My ac was low on freon and got a guy from this place come over. Appointment was 1pm and never show up until 6pm after several calls. The tech pump some freon and said it was 8 lbs. really? If you know 1/2 thing about ac, a small leak doesn't take 8lbs. 8 lbs will take about an hour charge/fill. It took this crook about 10 seconds at most (yes I was standing next to him acting like I don't know anything about ac). Also the guy didn't even measure superheat/supercool value to determine the correct level of freon/pressure to charge. I have all the equipment and the knowledge to do this. I just don't have the license that's why I hired this company. Next time I'd just do it myself. Btw they charge line $29/lb for the 410a. Which is the newer freon. You can buy the whole bottle from Sam's for $84 (22 lbs bottle). read more

This time I had Rob & Rob. Father-son partnership, they did a great job! 1. It was pretty late in the evening when I had my AC breakdown. Water all over the place. I randomly pulled up Yelp and saw very few business open, Courtesy Air was one of them. I called, Tom picked up the phone, assuring me there will be a technician calling me in 10 minutes. In a few minutes someone called, that's Rob. 2. Rob said he was in the middle of a job, and once finished he will come over. And he did. They did a quick walk around, explained the situation and reason. Fairly quickly they came up a solution to stop the water leakage. At that point I was already very satisfied. 3. They explained to me to have things properly fixed (my AC wasn't installed in the right way, but someone 'I know'). they need to make a return trip the next day. We arranged the time for the coming day, they called before heading over my way, and showed up with all the tools. Within 1.5 hour as promised, job fully completed. Rob and Rob, throughout the whole process, were professional, honest, quick to the point, and they get things done! They told me they had 35 years of experience working in this field, definitely a pair of old hands. Five star service, never a question. read more

Make sure you read this BEFORE considering these people to look at your A/C. My family and I were SHOCKED at what Mike Roach from Courtesy A/C tried to do to us! My father just passed away last week and my mom's A/C went out so my sister found Courtesy A/C on yelp and they had good reviews so she called for a technician to come out and check everything out. Mike got here and was checking out the outside unit when my neighbor walked up and asked if everything was ok because he noticed all the different cars from family coming and going. After that Mike told us he was so sorry for our loss and said he had some bad news about our A/C unit. He said that there was a leak in the coils and that we'd need 8 to 9 pounds of coolant at $100 a pound. Also that our unit was old and completely needed to be changed out and that it would come out to be $5600. Luckily my sister had another tech from a different company come out for a second opinion the next day. Within 15 minutes he figured out it was the digital thermostat that went bad and that's it! So I asked him about everything Mike the Roach had said and he agreed its an old unit but it blows cold air just fine and we should run it until it absolutely needs to be replaced. He said there were NO LEAKS and showed me the gauges, I told him that when Mike showed us the gauges they were low and that the pipe coming from the outside unit going into the house froze. Mike said this happens because of low levels but the new guy said that the unit has to be running to do this test or else it doesn't flow through causing the pipes to freeze up. That guy Mike really tried to take advantage of a grieving family and left us sitting in a house sweating it out all night contemplating what course of action we need to take next, with funeral costs and everything else this is the last thing we need. I still cant believe we almost paid 5600 dollars unnecessarily and that there are really vultures out there trying to take advantage of families at a vulnerable time. Mike also told us that the company he works for is owned by his brother in law. If that's how that family does business I'd hate to think of how many people they've done this kind of unethical practice to. I honestly hope this review helps other customers and families from being lied to and taken advantage of. Remember guys always get a second opinion because on the outside Mike seemed like a honest guy. He definitely didn't give us options. I'm sitting here enjoying cool A/C and it only cost 200 dollars thanks to the second company we went with. read more

For over a year I knew my a/c was limping on its last and very tired legs. I knew I wanted to establish a relationship with a family owned company and found Courtesy through various reviews, Angie's List, and the BBB. Brad arrived at the appointed time, evaluated my system, and made recommendations. The pricing, installation, and fees were all on target with research I had conducted and so I pulled the trigger and purchased a new coil and condenser. Brad arranged an installation team and once installed I am happy and cool with my new system. Pros: Brad was professional, approachable, and took great care in explaining various aspects of the hvac system. Pricing was on point with competitors. Local, family owned company. Install team did a fantastic job taking great care to clean up after themselves and did a neat job. In my install the hvac team had to remove a fence and coordinate with my neighbor. The fence was taken down and put back up and is nicer now than it was before. KUDOS. Cons: The install team was late in arriving. However, Brad was in communication with me throughout the day and honestly, if you are having a new hvac installed you should plan on being around for a while. These things are not plug and play. I will use Courtesy Air Conditioning & Heating again when it is time to install a new furnace and recommend them without hesitation. read more

He even knew we needed an electrician's service before we could do any repair. I had another company come out to diagnose the problem and he did not know anything about the electrical service I needed in order for the air conditioner to work!! He would have cost me $900 for repair on my old unit!! I have used Courtesy since 1992 and would have no other. If they do not call you back right away, just hold on. They will call and it will be worth your wait!! However, I do not recommend Robert. He tends to profit from increased prices for any item you buy from him. I recently purchased a 1920's bungalow with an AC & Heating unit that was around 15 years old. With the intention to replace the whole system, i called several AC & Heating companies to come out and give me a quote. Out of the ones i called, Courtesy was by far the most friendly and informative of the group. Brad came out and took a good look at what I had and explained in great detail what probably should be replaced and what can be reused. I never got the vibe that Brad was trying to push me something that I did not need. After doing my due diligence, the price that i was quoted was well within my estimates and fair. As for the installation, Courtesy came in on a Saturday morning around 9AM and got to work right away. They made an extra effort to not make a mess in my house by placing floor mats down. They finished the job in around 3-4 hours and everything looked great! Very professionally done. They cleaned up what little mess they made and were on there way. After a week of usage, I have zero complaints. My new system is working as it should and i am now a lot more comfortable in my home. Courtesy replace a corroded AC coil to fix a problem with leaking coolant, a repair that costs more than $1000 just for labor. Barely a year later, the same unit started to lose refrigerant. I called a different company to investigate because I was worried that Courtesy had overlooked something, and they found that the new coil had been installed with a pan that was tilted away from the drain. More than a half inch of water pooled before the water level reached the drain. This has caused the brand new coil to rust and start to leak, barely more than a year after it was installed by Courtesy. I checked my payment receipt, and unfortunately they print a big message at the bottom in bolded text: "Thirty days labor on all work performed." I had the coil replaced again by a different company that offers a two year warranty on their work. read more
