SmartAir was called to look into a condensation leak. Technician Pete reported it was a plumbing issue and couldn't fix it. While he was there he was asked to look at the furnace. Get story in perspective: Sister-in-law is care giver for husband. Home was designed by him 45 years ago. Like us things fail , like our home furnace's. He said you really need to fix the furnace. The gas company had already turned off the gas to the unit in fear of a serious problem resulting. He wasn't allowed to turn it back on and said she had to have another furnace. We got wind of the entire situation here in Tulsa. OK, and reached out to Smart Air management. I was instructed to contact their individual in the field. After explaining who I was, he was very very helpful in working with me in getting a new furnace ordered and installed TODAY! Young mans name is Pete! My brother-in-law's A/C was not cooling properly so he needed help fast. He needed me to find an HVAC contractor to evaluate the system and advise what needed to be done to get it cooling again. After reading the reviews on this website I called Smart Air and spoke with Jay. Jay made it out to my brother-in-law's house within an hour or so and proceed to diagnose the situation. He could have told us anything but he explained that the capacitor needed to be replaced to get the unit cooling properly again. UPDATE: The owner, Jay, contacted me about this and let me know he talked to the employee who came to my home about my complaint. Jay also refunded me my $70 since I was dissatisfied and I do appreciate that, as many businesses don't bother to do such things these days. With all the other positive reviews, I'm assuming I just had an unusually bad experience, but I'm glad I didn't have to end up paying for it. (For the bottom line, skip to the bottom) I just bought a new home that I have not moved into yet, and when I got it inspected, I was told the AC was working well but should have yearly service for maintenance. It's been working fine up until yesterday. There are two units and it was apparent that the one for the front of the house was not working as it had been. When I initially contacted Smart Air through yelp, the owner was very professional, though I had to ask for the cost as opposed to them offering up that information upon scheduling. Since I was given a two-hour window for their arrival and I'm not living in the new house yet, I wasn't about to get there at the beginning of the window and possibly sit in a hot house for two hours. So I appreciated it when they called to let me know they were about 20 minutes away. Normally that would be plenty of time for me to get to the house but I ran into some unexpected roadwork, causing the Smart Air guy (I know his name but since I'm saying something negative, I'd rather not put his name on here) to have to wait for me a few minutes. I could tell it irritated him, and I'm sure they're all very busy but I didn't know that there'd be a lane closure on my route. Anyway, it seemed to get us off on the wrong foot even though I apologized. He was pretty sarcastic and snarky with me. He said, "You should've gotten this place inspected" in a you're-such-an-idiot tone. I was taken aback and informed I had had it inspected. "By who?" As if I would've just gotten anyone off the street to do it. I let him know it was someone licensed to perform home inspections. That's not what I expect when I'm having to pay $70 just for them to tell me what's wrong. Well, I didn't even get that much. He was there for 40 minutes and didn't offer any specific information as to what was going on or what could be done. As I was paying, I had to ask what the recommendation was, and he said it would be in the invoice. I asked again and he just said it's old so I need a new one. I'm posting a photo of the invoice where he wrote that A/C units only last for ten years...it's pretty hard for me to take him at his word considering my last A/C unit lasted for over forty (yes, here in Houston). So to offer absolutely nothing in regards to options other than "get a new one" seemed not only rude, but dishonest. Maybe it was just the guy I got and everyone else at Smart Air is great, and maybe even the guy I got is usually great but was having a terrible day and was pissed at me for making him wait...I don't know, but I'm definitely not trying them out again. $70 just to be insulted and get zero answers regarding what is wrong and what I can do besides spending thousands on a new one. It's possible I need a new one, but most people explain what exactly is failing, the cost to fix it, and the advice about whether it is worth it to fix or not. You don't have to run a $70 diagnostic just to tell me it's old. I'm giving two stars just because the owner was courteous in the messages. read more

On Thursday May 26th our AC unit stopped working. I'm not handy at all with things like this but it was the evening and too late to call anyone so I tried googling fixes. I couldn't figure out what the problem was so we suffered through it that night but I wasn't sure how much longer my marriage could handle no AC... The next day I called 3 different AC companies but being Friday, no one had availability for the weekend so I scheduled with one for Monday afternoon and reluctantly made plans to hide from my wife for the next 3 days. Later at work though my coworker suggested I give Smart Air a call so I did. I spoke with Jay and he said they were almost done with a customer not too far from our home in Bellaire and could be there in under an hour. I skipped lunch to meet him there and Jay was phenomenal. He checked out the unit on the 2nd floor and immediately identified the problem as a clogged pipe for the float. Blew it out and told me we needed a plumber to fix the actual problem but went ahead and checked out the AC unit on the roof and all our vents. He was professional the entire visit and even took the time to put on shoe booties every time he stepped in and out so he wouldn't track dirt on our carpet. His customer service is on point and he's got my business for life. 3/16/2020 Since my last review almost 2 years ago, we had a new house built close to Sienna Plantation and the first thing I and my kids noticed during this coronavirus work from home situation is that the humidity levels throughout the house were ridiculous! I called SmartAir and got Jay immediately. He asked me detailed questions about the settings on my thermostats and then had me FaceTime him so he could see the unit in the attic and check all the cables and coils etc. He spent almost 30 minutes figuring out what was wrong remotely and I can't express enough how grateful I am for his knowledge and his dedication to his craft. I actually had to raise my thermostat because it got too cold at our home. Over the weekend, our air condition started to shake. It was turned off. The temperature inside our house continued to rise and it became extremely warm. We called several places and Houston Smart Air Cooling & Heating was able to squeeze us in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I had to return to work and was only able to stay long enough for a diagnostic. I explained to Jay that my husband was en route and should arrive soon. He said, "okay, I will run to the store for part and be back shortly." I noticed a big accident on the opposite side as I headed back to work. I contacted my husband and he said I should be there in 10 minutes. During that time Jay had replaced the part as my husband arrived at our home. Jay had added freon and also grounded our air conditioning unit. Then, he turned on the air condition unit. When I opened the door and walked inside our home, it felt extremely cool. He essentially saved us from a harsh Houston summer, and a new unit. Jay is courteous, professional, arrived on time and extremely knowledgeable. He did not ever offer to upgrade our unit such as other competitors have done in the past. Today my heat stopped working. They came out instantly and fixed the issue for less then $100. Honest! Reliable! Integrity! Highly recommend this Update: So they came out and offered a pretty cheap tuneup because they said the problem is not a definite and worth additional repairs. They said if anything goes wrong they will come back out before I would have spend more money. Few days later same problem occurred. They came out and switched a part out. I've used a couple companies in the past for our HVAC maintenance/service. These guys keep you in the loop, scheduling was top notch, always courteous and explained everything they were doing or had to do to my satisfaction. We were never up sold and their pricing for parts was fair. We have a couple of units that were having issues (running constantly and not cooling), In the past, we had to pay for a new coil so we were fearing the worst. Smart Air came out, evaluated the units explained what was going. They followed up in a few months and all was still well and we've noticed it on our power bill. Their initial service call was not the cheapest but from what I've experienced, the cheapest never works out that way. Call them with confidence and relax. read more

I called Smart Air after 3 days without AC and fighting with my home warranty to send me a contractor that knows what they are doing since the one they sent me tried to scam me to buy a new unit from them for $9000 and completely misdiagnosed my AC issue. The tech that came for me was Jay which he was a very knowledgeable and helpful tech. He gave us a lot of tips on how to maintain our AC and keep it working for as long as possible. He also diagnosed what wrong with my AC and it was a capacitor that was bad and needed to be replaced. Ever since he replaced it my AC has been working well *knock on wood* and actually better than before. Really recommend calling Smart Air for any problems you have with your AC or heating. I will definitely call then whenever I have an any problems. Note: for anybody wondering what's my home warranty and the contractor that they sent so you guys can avoid using both of them. What a time for my A/C to go out right in the middle of July. From previous bad experience using other A/C companies, I had no idea on which AC company to call this time. So, I decided to check out yelp to see which A/C companies had the highest ratings. After reading a few of the top Yelp-rated A/C companies, Smart Air Cooling & Heat had the best ratings. Smart Air Clooling was consistently rated 5 stars for service, pricing and professionalism. I called Smart Air on a Thursday mid afternoon and was able to book an appointment for Friday at 8:30 AM. The A/C Tech had called me15 to 20 minutes prior to arriving at the scheduled time. When the A/C Tech arrived and before entering my home he had placed two large blue booties over his shoes. He had checked in attic, checked the unit outside and checked the thermostat. He also ran a diagnostics test. I was very impressed with the way the tech had handled everything. In addition, the tech did recommend a new system would be best. I did appreciate the tech not hard selling me because a new system was not in my budget. I called Smart Air for a clogged AC line that was using the backup drain and causing damage to my patio roof. Pete came out within an hour or so and found that the issue was actually due to a clogged pipe that the plumber would have to clear out (this is after the plumber mistakenly told me I had to have an AC tech clear the line). Pete was very sweet and honest and explained the issue in detail and didn't even charge me for his inconvenience of coming out here. I would highly recommend this company on integrity alone. read more
