My experiance dealing with Jose and his team during the installation was just as great. My condenser unit was on a small balcony on my 4th floor and the evaporator coil/air blower unit, Furnice were in the attic above the 4th floor. Jose was able to line up a crane and replace the old unit and install a new unit the same day as the qoute. The entire team was very professional and completed the work on time. My install was a week ago and everything has been working perfectly. My new unit is so quiet and I am noticing less humidity in the house as well. I highly recommened JD's AC & Heating if you are looking to hire a dependable and professional AC company.

The guy who came out took over 3 hours to "Diagnose" the problem, but because he had taken way longer than it should have, he only charged us for two hours. Got an estimate that the unit needed a new heat kit and we accepted it. NOTE: Their estimates try to be general and I do not like a general estimate when the cost is over a thousand dollars. They came out and put in the 'heat kit' and the heat worked. The only problem was it would not shut off when it reached the correct temp on the thermostat. We called Northwind and told them of the problem and they sent someone out. This guy was similar to the other in that it took him 4 hours to diagnose the problem and each time he would tell us it was a problem, we would say, "But your guys fixed that." and his story as to what the problem was would change. We were told at least 4 different reasons this was not working. He finally settled on it was a valve on the roof and he had tested it with a magnet. The other problem was the guy would stand around and talk to employees the whole time he was here. Then he called a manager up to the front to tell her he was only going to charge for 2 hours. I was there and heard it and left her to sign. The next morning I get an invoice charging us 4 hours for sending out the village idiot. I immediately called Northwind and was put through to someone named Dale with an attitude. I explained the issue and he had said well you don't have to be upset and I told him I wasn't and was speaking in a normal tone and am just telling him the issue. He apologized and made a comment that he was just saying it because of others?!? Then he told me he was going to check into it and call me back. That was on 1/25, a week ago yesterday, and he still hasn't gotten around to it. I called another A/C company and they immediately found the problem. Whoever put in the heat kit or the person coming to 'diagnose' the overheating issue had burned out an entire circuit board. The actual problem was fixed when they reset the thermostat but now we have to buy a new board to be able to have heat in the front of the building. Northwind used to be good. Undoubtedly they are scraping the bottom of the hiring barrel now due to their growth. The people they are sending out now are incompetent, lazy, and slow. Oh, but they do continuously send you reminders that you have an estimate you haven't agreed to!!! You need to sign it so they can send another village idiot out. USE ANYONE ELSE

After a little research on the internet and reading reviews of A/C companies I chose to contact a local company and contacted Abel Mechanical Services to come out and diagnose the problem. I hadn't had a previous issue in years but the symptom was my system was low on Freon. I was planning on just adding Freon and hoping it would last through the summer and then I was going to have my total system replaced once it got a little cooler. Abel and his technician Chris arrived the next day after I contacted his company and starting diagnosing my outside unit. The first thing the gauges told us was I was low on Freon which was no surprise. While Abel and I were discussing the age of my unit and me telling Abel that I was considering just adding Freon and making it last a little longer Chris was checking the condenser coil for leaks and taking some readings on the amperage draw of the compressor and the fan motor. Both the compressor and fan were outside of their normal rated draws. No Freon leaks were found in the outside coils. There was no sales pitch made. They told me they could add Freon but could not tell me how long it would last because there was a leak somewhere and how long the Freon would last was unknown because they had not found the leak yet. I made the decision immediately to lean toward replacing my entire heat and cooling system now rather than "rolling the dice" since both the heating and cooling units were 16 years old and based on the compressor and fan out of tolerance amp readings provided by Abel and Chris. There was no sales pitch to sell me a new system. They said it was totally up to me as to whether to repair or to replace my system based on their findings. My common sense told me to replace due to the measurements and age of the system so I was the one to ask Abel for the cost of a total system change out. We agreed on a price for a new system. I really appreciated the relationship I had with Abel and Chris. They were very open to answer any of my questions. I could tell based on our interactions that I wanted to continue to do business with this company and that they were honorable and trustworthy. A couple of days afterward Abel's installation crew, including Abel and Chris arrived early in the morning and in less that 8 hours my old system was removed and my new heat and air conditioning system was in and working. Everything was done in a orderly and professional manner. All the old parts and trash was removed and my property was left as clean as it was when they arrived. Thanks to Abel Mechanical Services for a job well done.

He then proceeded to the roof (where the compressor is) and determined that the capacitor is bad (changed). He also said that there is a leak, as the Freon was empty. We had set the next day for his next visit to fill the system with Freon and add a dye (a leak detector), but did not show up after multiple calls. Got a different company for a recheck. The Freon was full, and there was a fuse removal/disconnect (in the control box next to the compressor) that was obviously done by Ruben (no one touched the system since the original installation). And guess what: the system fired up once the fuse was connected, and started cooling like a charm. In summary: Ruben obviously tampered with the power supply to make it look as if the system was dead. There was no need for take down of the coil cover to check for leaks, there was no leak, and the Freon was full. The guy is a liar and a fraud. Don't let him get close to your house. If there was an option for negative stars, I would give him - minus 10.
