Food was good. Service questionable . This has always been our go to for favorite all around experience . Service was not really up to par. Ordered our wine in advance and didn't receive it until half way through our entrees. Had to flag down help to get the bill . Not the best experience :( read more

The ride on the way to Hazel Hill is spectacular, and the rain clouds made it even more dramatic. It's one of the reasons people visit Healdsburg --for the peace and magnificence of the surrounding natural beauty. Hence, this elegant new hotel offers Hazel Hill as a dining destination fit for elites. A valet quickly relieves you of your auto. The interior of Montage is modern, tasteful, spacious and while the saying goes, you can't eat atmosphere, here that atmosphere is exactly part of the dining experience. We were a party of four for lunch. Every employee from the valet to the hostess greeted us cheerfully with poise. Hazel Hill offers a diverse, and yes, expensive, lunch menu. But hey, you knew that before you made a reservation. Although some Yelp reviews complained about service, we found it impeccable and friendly. Our server anticipated every need. The chef at Hazel Hill has lots of five star experience with French expertise, and every single thing that came to the table was utter perfection. Beautiful to look at but the kind of culinary talent that says, this may be the best lunch we've ever had. Two of us ordered the Coq Au Vin with spatzle and vegetables. We had to ask one of us to please stop talking about how the magnificent sauce must have been a 24 hour reduction. The Ora King Salmon was silky and regal, and served over a garden of artichokes and greens. I had the Wagyu Steak and Frites with Bernaise, because when in Rome, let go of the reins. The medium cooked steak was nice and rare on the inside and charred on the edges. Wagyu lives up to its reputation indeed and the Bernaise elevated it to stardom. We shared a creamy, Meyer Lemon Tart expecting it to be small but it actually went around the table three times until every crumb was gone. The only minor disappointment was that the single glass wine list was not only short, but also not indicative of the great and unusual wines Sonoma and Napa counties have to offer. Maybe the full bottle list was better. We are not waiting for a birthday or anniversary to go back and for dinner. The Hazel Hill is one of the best places to visit in Sonoma County and worth the splurge. read more

Service impeccable and they reach high in terms of culinary creativity but sometimes miss. Agnolotti special with shaved truffle done table side was a hit. The Dungeness crab over pasta was well done. The heirloom tomatoes very flavorful but some were mushy. The duck was a miss-- undercooked and rubbery. The halibut poached well, good not great and vegetarian sorghum bowl was nice but very al dente. Lovely wine selections and desserts and beautiful setting. read more

What a wonderful place for an intimate lunch! Very dog friendly! The escargot was really good, perfect with butter and garlic and crusty French bread. Hazel Hill salad was refreshing and the veal was a large steak. We asked for a little extra of the sauce to dip in. Roxanne was attentive as was all the very friendly staff. Winslow, our rescue pup, loved it! They immediately brought him a bowl of water when we sat down. The view of the Grape vines and a slight breeze made it a perfect afternoon! We will return! read more

Generous friends gave me a gift card for Montage, the newly opened resort tucked in the hills north of Healdsburg. When you make your reservations on line, you must choose between the "a la carte" menu and chef's 5-course tasting menu for $150. As it was our first visit, we chose the "a la carte" menu. To finalize the reservation, you have to enter your credit card, so the reservation system can put a $50 hold per person on the card. We arrived a little early but were immediately seated on the terrace with a nice view of the resort and Mount St. Helena in the distance. The restaurant seems to be well staffed as service and pacing of the meal was excellent. The first person who came to the table inquired about water choices. Our server, "Gabi", answered our questions about the menu then went to get our wine choice. The wine list is fairly large, but very expensive, more so than food, which seemed priced about where other fine dining restaurants are priced. We selected a 2019 bottle of Alain Graillot from Croze Hermitage. This excellent syrah was $95, one of the least expensive wines on the the menu. Before Gabi returned with our wine, "house-olive bread" was brought to the table with duck fat butter topped with olive oil and fennel pollen. Gabi told us the bread comes from Goguette French bakery in Santa Rosa. We started with Lemon Ricotta Gnocchi and a special tomato fig salad with a vermouth vinaigrette. For main courses, we chose wild King Salmon on pumpernickel with sorrel puree and Liberty duck breast. To finish, we chose Peas and Carrots, a white chocolate pea mousse, sour dough carrot cake and Coconut Glacee, stone fruit melody, ginger pearls and coconut crumble. Some quibbles; wine prices, a talented musician playing guitar but the restaurant didn't turn off their piped music, with the exception of the two starters, descriptions for our main courses and desserts sounded better than what was brought to table, and finally main courses lack accompaniments and there were no options to add a side veggie or starch. read more

Five-star food with three-star service. We visited on a Saturday evening for dinner--our first, and last, dinner here. We've had brunch, lunch and cocktails in the past and enjoyed it, and while it didn't thrill us, it merited another visit to celebrate our anniversary. I noted we were celebrating a special occasion in the reservation, but neither the hostess nor our server made any mention of it on arrival. They asked us what brought us in, we mentioned we were celebrating our 3rd anniversary. A cursory "congratulations" was offered and that's it. Everything we ordered was truly delicious: Hazel Hill Salad, two-asparagus soup, striped sea bass, and roasted chicken with Madeira jus. The sourdough olive bread with duck fat butter, fennel and olive oil was out of this world. Dessert menu wasn't particularly inspiring, but the complimentary house candies alongside strawberry macarons they present with the check was a sweet and simple way to close out our meal. Compliments to the chef as each dish was a symphony of flavour -- just incredible. What puzzles my partner and I is how a hotel brand and restaurant of this caliber and price point gets away with letting their waitstaff wear Levi's, awful tan sweaters and black sneakers. We were well-dressed; so were several other dining groups. It's a treat to dress for a special occasion but felt a bit weird to be in an upscale dining space while being served by someone who looked like they just came from a shift at a pub. That aside, we had a lovely time but agreed this will be our last visit to Hazel Hill. read more

We came here for lunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. When I made reservations on line I was asked if it was a special occasion and any other requests. I checked "birthday" and requested a window table. We checked in with the host who said we were right on time and then had us stand there for 20 minutes! There is no seating available at the waiting area. It was a sunny day and had we known we would be standing around for that long, we would have gone to the lovely bar area outside which had a fire pit and views. It is the host's job to make guests feel comfortable. The host should have suggested the bar or explained how much wait time. When we were finally led into the restaurant, we were taken out to the patio. When I explained that I had requested an inside window table, we were told there are no "reserved" tables. We were taken to a table in the back next to a frosted, opaque window that you couldn't see through. Suffice to say, we ended up going back outside and when we walked by an empty table with a view and asked if we could sit there, the hostess said that it was "reserved". (She had just told me there are no specific table reservations.) Our waiter came by and took our order. When the soup arrived, it was placed in front of us without any spoons. We waited awhile until a waitstaff came with spoons. We noticed several other tables where the same thing happened. Soup served w/o spoons. However, I am giving a star based solely on the cauliflower soup which was delicious. When the 2nd course arrived by a server with two hands full, our oversized soup plates had not been cleared. While I was contemplating whether I should remove the soup plates and to where since it was a two-top, another server came over and took the soup plates. My small portioned coq au van was on the dry side and served without the spätzle that was referred to and pictured on their website menu. The rockfish was a good-sized portion but again nothing was served to accompany the fish. Just a piece of fish with sauce. Overall, this dining experience was severely lacking in service we expected from Montage. And to top it off, no one mentioned my husband's birthday (even just to wish him a Happy Birthday) so clearly no one is reading the reservation notes. Why bother asking then? It was "restaurant week" but not crowded since it was a week day. This was Hazel Hill's chance to make repeat customers out of locals but we won't be back. read more

Wonderful indulgent French California style restaurant. The evening we dined, the chef offered black truffles from Paraguay which we had with both the Saffron Chittara and the bass. Both dishes were excellent. The Chittara is a chef's signature dish (Jason Pringle) with saffron infused spaghetti mixed with Dungeness crab and mild sauce. It was simply wonderful. We also had the apple & kohlrabi ribbon salad. While I prefer kohlrabi cooked, the salad was layered with walnuts and a light coconut vinaigrette and was quite tasty. The striped bass was crispy skinned and perfectly cooked and tender and the sun choke mash gave it an earthy and rich balance and with added black truffle shavings topping it off. The cote de boeuf was superb and was served with a wonderful wild mushroom mix sautéed in butter. The Montage setting is like eating outdoors among trees but has the elegance of a Michelin star dining experience. Be prepared to spend money as it is pricey. Definitely perfection in the dishes and highly recommend! read more

Went for New Years Eve. Beautiful setting. However, this was one of the worst meals we have ever had. Aside from having to wait over a half hour for a reservation we made weeks ago, the food and service were terrible. The menu was completely different from what was posted on the website. Many of the items, although we're not allergic to them, are items that we do not like and will not eat. Like raw fish for example. And raw meat. The entire operation was disorganized and servers were lacking in knowledge of how things should be done. For example, when we got champagne the server brought us large wine glasses . We requested champagne flutes instead and the server stated that those would be the wrong glasses but she would bring them anyway since we requested them. Are you kidding? In addition, this was a tasting menu which was not stated on the website. Menu items arrived in random order instead of the way they're supposed to come out. For example some dessert items arrived after the salad and before the main courses. Many times we had to ask multiple servers more than once to get another course brought to us. When the bill came we were informed that a 20% tip was added automatically so we couldn't reflect our displeasure with the service in the tip. Regarding the food, the quality was sub-standard and most of the items did not taste good. Several had way too much salt. Several were completely inedible. The limited meat items were not cooked at all. We were hungry when we left. By the way this meal was very expensive prix fixe. It was obvious that this was an outside group that was hired to put on the New Years Eve dinner and not the regular staff of this restaurant. We have seen this at other upscale restaurants in Sonoma County. It hasn't been good at those establishments either. Similar issues but this place was worse than the others. We have eaten at this restaurant several times in the past for this holiday dinner and it wasn't like this in previous years so we were very disappointed. It was a true "bait and switch" because the website stated there was a regular menu with selection items. It's not the prix fixe that's the problem. It's the blatant deception. If this is how things are going to be here then even though we are former repeat customers we won't be returning. read more

I was very impressed with Hazel Hill. It strikes the perfect balance of refined elegance in a comfortable and gorgeous setting. The food was all perfect and the service was attentive and helpful as well as pleasant. I am excited to go back for a Sunday brunch and will also definitely be back for dinner ASAP. read more

Hey Mr Greg P from Ohio this is for you: Wonderful and worth your time and money. This is a gorgeous new restaurant with a lovely menu and wine list. The staff and service are just what you expect. I was so pleased with my lunch experience that I quickly booked a dinner reservation. This restaurant, as many in this county, have been subject to the challenges of this pandemic. Shutdowns, strict protocols, staffing issues, limitations in food supply availability. Trying to maintain business, let alone opening one, right now is so very hard! More than ever our county needs a variety of business that will bring more jobs and revenue so we may rebuild and recover from ongoing wildfires and this pandemic. The Montage is a very positive boost to our economy and to suggest, persuade and discourage anyone from coming at this restaurant, or any restaurant, is wrong! Much investment of time, planning and money have gone into building a beautiful resort and restaurant only to be faced with this pandemic. Mr. Greg P from Ohio shame on you for writing a mean, underserving, off base and exaggerated review to hurt this restaurant and all the employees that depend on this restaurant for their careers and livelihood. What motive did you have to write such a review at a time like this, or ever?! Do you wish for it to close it's doors and employees lose their jobs, again? What is wrong with you?! read more

We went to Valette, Bravas Bar, Campo Fina, and SingleThread on our trip, and by far Hazel Hill was the our least favorite dinning experience. Disappointing since we stayed at the Montage for 4 nights. The Hamachi Crudo was cut lengthwise clumped into a ball, imagine trying to eat crudo that looks like a ball of worms (yucky). The sorghum bowl with cherries was a lot of bland grains, with very little cherries. Drinks were good. read more

After reading the other reviews on Yelp and other reviews elsewhere I was a little skeptical, seemed like the restaurant was still getting their stuff together...... WRONG! First off they could have served me dog food and I would have been theirs simply based on the ambiance and views, my gawd! It just doesn't let up... The decor of the restaurant is supremely sophisticated and elegant, the kitchen itself is a site to behold, stunning and the outside patio is world class, the views are a something to cherish, the experience is next level.... If you cannot have fun here there is something wrong with you... I am serious! Okay, the food.... it was soooooooo good.... Fresh, light, visually pleasing and very satisfying... The Waygu steak was a dream, prepared perfectly, the crab pasta allowed both the crab and fresh pasta shine together, the salads were interesting, different and had explosive flavors. Dessert was insane, I had a deconstructed peach cobble which was so fresh I could tell they waited for the perfect time to serve this creation based on how explosive the flavors were, the fruit/berries were electric. The wait staff were pleasant and helpful, laid back but professional. The sommelier was great, insightful and easy going, we appreciated this based on being wine lovers but novices, he really helped guide us to successful pairings... Rare to have such an outgoing and approachable Som, he also gave us 1/2 glasses so we could experience different wines, LOVED this so much. Hazel Hill is well on its way to being a "can't miss" destination in Napa/Sonoma. We stayed at the Montage for 3nights, the resort is effing PHENOMENAL!! The operators knocked it our of the park and Hazel Hill is a vital part of their success. Few things are better than leaving a culinary experience like this and walking back to your room, what a luxury. We come to Napa/Sonoma a every year and it will be difficult to stay anywhere else other than the Montage from here on out... It will also be tough to skip Hazel Hill. Neither the restaurant or hotel are cheap, however if you want to have an experience of a lifetime pull the trigger and don't think twice. read more

Overall the food was very good. The octopus appetizer was on the fishy side (not bad fishy, just not my favorite). NY strip and halibut entrees were excellent and of course a great winelist. The setting at Montage is hard to beat. read more

Food was good, but nothing out of this world. Service was ok. Wanted to seat us at the bar for our anniversary, where they were a ton of empty tables around. Til we complained. Part of the Montage resort which we didn't know when finding it. Fantastic food (forbidden rice was out of this world) and the nicest staff. Amazing views, wide open grounds to walk afterwards. Can't wait to return!! read more

Great service and wonderful food. Nestled in a natural oak studded setting, the building is a delight to expose your self to. From your arrival to your departure these folks go all the way to make you feel comfortable. Once seated, the servants are polite and knowledgeable, with any Specials at the tip of their tongue. The food is terrific. The coffee is splendid. When I want to go out for a nice upscale, breakfast, Hazel Hill is where I go. read more

Great service, beautiful scenery, very nice cuisine. Lunch and dinner were both great experiences. Yes on oysters, mussels, beef tartar!!!

We had a lovely dinner to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. The food and service were outstanding. If you are a foodie you will love the chefs use of local ingredients and sauces. The duck was beyond! The chocolate caramel dessert was heaven served with a coconut sorbet. This is a place to dine for a very special occasion. We had a memorable stay and will be back one day... read more

I started this review when I was at the restaurant earlier. I It was coming up on 2 hours after we sat down and still hadn't received our mains. I actually got up to talk to the server, as we were rarely checked on, to ask if there was a problem. As I was asking the dishes finally arrived. This was lunch so if you need to pick up children from school, or have any plans the rest of the day, skip on this one. We did restaurant week so they were offering 2 courses for $25, with an optional add on of $5 for cookies and a small scoop of vanilla ice cream. (Would skip the dessert. Too much almond extract in the almond cookies.) The food was tasty, although very rich and a bit too much salt. The problem was 100% the service/timing. I had to flag someone down to fill my water 3 times. I had to flag someone down for a glass of wine. It's like we were invisible to them. My guests and I are all in the service industry and I would be embarrassed if I was the manager of this restaurant. Time line for food, as I always take pictures so have exact times. Seated at 12:45. The server came up to ask about drinks but it had already been about 15 minutes so I asked if we could just order food too. (We were already poured water 5 minutes before. Thanks Carlos!) First course came at 1:13. Second course came at 2:48. I don't know if this is a server firing on time problem or a kitchen problem, but the kitchen looked very relaxed so I assume service. As a chef myself, I look forward to restaurant week every year and deciding which restaurants I would like to go back to. A decent chef can give you a gourmet experience on a budget. This was almost the case here but unfortunately service plays a big part of that. I will not be returning. I'm looking forward to my other restaurant week picks of Valette and The Matheson. I hope my server enjoyed the 28% tip that honestly wasn't deserved. They did pull it together at the end and filled my water/wine. I would recommend for restaurant week at the discount, would never go back for full price. There's just so many other great places in the area. read more

We are locals and love all the wonderful restaurants in the area. We finally got to Hazel Hill for dinner and will definitely make it one of our 'go to' places in Healdsburg. Everyone was so welcoming from the moment we arrived. We sat in the cozy hotel lounge area to enjoy a drink and then made our way to the restaurant. Our waiter, Jason, was just fantastic. He was very personable, offered great suggestions and did everything possible to make our experience special. And the food was very good too. Thanks so much and we look forward to our next visit! read more

Menu was small. Everything we had was extremely salty, bland, not much flavor... other than salt. Extremely expensive for the food tou get. Paying those prices, I expected exquisite and interesting flavors. We spent $500 for a meal that we could've made at home with wayyy better flavor. I'll say the drinks we had were good thats why I gave it 2 stars. This place needs a new chef. read more

This is a truly lovely restaurant. Everyone greeted us with a smile, and we felt very welcomed. The cocktails, appetizer, and meals were delicious. We chose the white asparagus as an appetizer, and the coq au vin and the salmon. It would have been a perfect meal if we had not had to wait an unreasonable amount of time to place our drink order. We sat and chatted for at least 20 minutes before being greeted by our waiter, and have our drinks ordered. It was another 20 minutes before the drinks arrived. You know it's been too long when you start looking around to see if you've been forgotten. It ended up being a very lengthy, but tasty lunch. read more

Boring, Boring, Boring... Very disappointed. The location is magnificent. Beautiful views of the hills and winery. We went for lunch on Saturday, October 2, 2021. There were three of us there for a birthday celebration. The architecture is very modern and very tasteful. We were greeted by the hostess and they asked if we wanted to sit outside after I had already called and told them it was a birthday and we wanted a nice table outside in the Shade. They gave us a table in the sun. Other customers arrived and they kept putting people in the sun when there were tables in the shade. The waiters had to keep moving the umbrellas around to provide some shade. I asked to move. they were not sure if we could move even with half the tables empty. They did find one under an umbrella, but there were two large dogs laying next to the table when we arrive and stayed there for most of our meal until the owners left their table. We were given the menu and reviewed it. What a disappointment. Hamburger and salmon and a couple more. It looked like a menu designed for a crew of chefs who did not know how to cook. The small plate of salmon with 3 tater tot potatoes was $ 42.00!!! And the hamburger was $ 20.00. The dessert menu was also a disappointent. With all the good bakeries in Healdsburg, you would think they could find something exciting but the most exciting dessert was a Peach Melba. The service was even worse. It was a hot day on the patio and we had to keep asking for water for our glasses. Then we had to ask for ice since the water they served was warm. As to the Birthday, they made no mention or response to that at all. A beautiful site but with disappointing service and food. Nothing to see here folks. read more

Hazel Hill, like the rest of the Montage, is just plainly BORING. If eating hotel food and drinking largely uninspired wines is your thing, by all means go and enjoy. Our group wasn't impressed. First off, this is one of the most disappointing wine lists in the Bay Area. No passion or unifying direction in the selection, just a whole lot of Pinot, chard and cab and more Pinot chard and cab... offered at egregious margins. Normally I'd excuse the mark up on beverages if the amenity was there, but all expectations of luxury went out the window when I used the rest room and there was a simple human soap dispenser and the paper towel dispenser that you have to wave your hands in front of like the port authority bus terminal. My chicory salad wasn't dressed. No oil, no vinegar just undressed chicories. Lamb shank and polenta was as boring as it gets... there are 100 restaurants in the Bay Area that serve lamb shank and polenta and they all execute it better than this. It would be tolerable if I could wash it down with something other than over priced Pinot, Chardonnay or Cabernet Sauvignon, but alas.. I can not. Well there is a $1400 bottle of Rayas if you want Grenache.. of the entirety of Italian bounty reduced down to 4 Nebbiolo, 4 Sangiovese, 4 "Super Tuscans" (lol!) and an Amarone. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME DINING HERE. read more
