First things first, I loved this place! I was in Austin didn't have any dinner plans for my birthday and since it was so last minute, Haywire had availability. The ambiance inside was spectacular. Dimmed lights, gives you the ultimate western style how the servers looked. One thing I sill say, we sat a long table with a bench was ultimately super comfortable. Our waiter was super welcoming, helpful also. We started off with the "Chef's Favorite 4". What all included was some Mini Elk Tacos, Onion rings, fried green tomatoes, and a queso blanco. Each came with a sauce to dip in, amazing. The appetizer was amazing great started besides the green tomatoes. Not a fan due to it lacking in flavor plus not crispy enough to my liking. We also went for their Crispy Pork Belly. Packed with flavors, a kick with it. Very tasty. Moving onto my entree. I began with a New York Strip, I had their whipped potatoes, Brussels sprouts, and cornbread. My favorite side was the Brussels sprouts, once again a little kick to it and it had that sweet and savory taste to it. My steak was cooked beautifully. My drink I got their "Free Spirited" the Lady Bird, super refreshing. Lastly, I had a complimentary dessert for my birthday. Their "Whiskey Bread Pudding" it was topped off with some ice cream. Searched for a nice spot to have anniversary dinner with my hubby and decided to make reservations at Haywire. After parking in the Domain's Red Garage we walked a couple of blocks to the restaurant, scoping out other shopping and dinning spots along the way. It was a nice, short walk. We checked in and waited about 5 minutes before being seated. We got a nice cozy booth on the veranda which had better lighting and less noise than the main dinning area. We just missed happy hour which ended at 6 pm. We ordered cocktails, fried green tomatoes and corn bread for starters. What a great beginning! The green tomatoes were firm with a crispy crust and tasty sauce. Corn bread was slightly sweet and decadent, almost dessert like. Drinks were on point! For our mains we had the steak salad and chicken fried steak plate. My husband said the crust on the steak was perfectly crisp and tasted like his favorite fried chicken. My salad was nicely dressed and the steak was cooked to order. We finished with a bread pudding topped with whiskey sauce and a scoop of ice cream. Heavenly! From start to finish the service was friendly and efficient without feeling rushed. It was nice to take our time and savor our meal and enjoy the experience. We could have chosen an ultra posh spot for our special day but I'm glad we chose Haywire because it was perfect. Top notch food, classy comfortable environment with fabulous service. Would recommend if looking for good American food such as ribs, meatloaf, etc. Restaurant also has full bar with mimosa flight, beer, wine and various higher end whiskeys. This was my second time at Haywire Domain and I loved it! We celebrated my friend lastnight and the service was perfect. The hostess was very nice and recommended great dishes on the menu. The queso blanco was great (add the elk meat for $1, it's worth it). My redfish was delicious and my friend's baby back ribs were so good. The space has a modern Texas cowboy vibe--nothing cheesy, just warm wood, soft lighting, and a kind of rustic-polished look that feels cool without trying too hard. The salad itself had a great mix of textures--fresh greens, roasted corn, little crispy bites, and crumbled cheese. Everything tasted fresh and well put together. To drink, I went with the bourbon smash. It came out looking like summer in a glass--mint, blackberry, crushed ice. Super refreshing and balanced, not too sweet. Had a reservation for 4 at 8:45pm on a Friday. Checked in at our reservation time but was informed that our table wasn't ready. I went back to the host at 9pm and they admitted they forgot we were waiting but sat us immediately after that. It took awhile before the waiter checked in with us, but we had our drink and appetizer order ready when he did. We ordered the Chef's 4 appetizer. He told us that it only comes with 2 tacos so we could add 1 taco to it if we liked. We asked to add 2 tacos since there are 4 of us and he told us that he could only add 1. Weird, but ok. He came back shortly and said they ran out of onion rings. We picked other appetizers instead and he said he would take off one from the bill. We thought that was a nice offer since our impression of Haywire wasn't stellar so far. We ordered our entrees plus 2 of us ordered a chili and Caesar "to start". The kitchen seemed backed up and it took a long time to get our dinners. All entrees and the chili and Caesar all came out together which was a little disappointing. The waiter said he didn't realize we wanted those first (sigh). The food was 70% good. The pork chop was very tender, the burger was well seasoned, the fries were yummy, taco appetizer was also excellent. The Caesar was under the heat lamp unfortunately, the catfish was just ok, and the rice bowl needed some editing. I should also note that the menu says adding shrimp to the bowl was $7 but it showed up as $11.95 on the bill. Overall, we will not return. I've eaten here twice and really enjoyed the food both times. The atmosphere is super fun, very TEXAS but with a glam POV. So many chandaliers - but also cowhide covered chairs. Love the decor. The first visit the staff was DECKED OUT - everyone had cowboy hats and boots on which added to the fun. A couple months later, I did see cowboy boots on people, but not the level of commitment to the theme I saw my first visit. The food is upscale New American via Texas and I really lived for the BRUNCH. The french toast was just next level and I have to have it again soon! My business partner and I met here to share a holiday meal. They lost our reservation but were still kind enough to seat us. We had the appetizer sampler. The elk tacos and the queso were both ice cold. We had both heard good things about the pork chop but they were both refrigerator cold when served....not cold as in sat too long...cold as in came from the refrigerator. Services was extremely slow. I know they had a large corporate event upstairs but it was obvious this kitchen is not setup to handle 'the busy season'. In the end the manager comped our meal which we did not request or want...we simply wanted our feedback to be heard. When they're quick to comp to me means our feedback wasn't really heard. Friend came across Haywire from an IG post where the food looked good so we made a late lunch reservation for Saturday. Haywire is not a small restaurant in size; however, there are not a lot of tables in the dining area so definitely make a reservation. We arrived about 20 minutes early so we had a drink at the bar where we met Dray our bartender. He highly recommended the frozen margarita and frozen Texas tea and boy are they strong but definitely taste very good! Dray also stated for known red meat eaters he recommended the ribs and the seafood catfish/shrimp. A guest sitting next to us at the bar said the ribs fell off the bone and would definitely order again. Once seated at our table, we decided to share the ribs and seafood. Yes, the ribs almost fell off the bone, the bbq sauce on the ribs was too sweet but the vinegar sauce that comes on the side helps balance. If ordered again would ask for both sauces on the side. Ribs came w/ Mac n cheese that was very salty (wouldn't recommend); however, the asparagus was charred to perfection (please share how y'all do that w/o it tasting burnt)! The seafood plate comes w/ 3 shrimp and 3 grilled catfish filets, lightly seasoned and shareable w/ the whipped potatoes, just add an additional side. First-time visitor and I was really excited to try this restaurant. The first hostess we encountered was wonderful, though our actual waitress was very bland and lacked engagement. The food was excellent and the atmosphere was great. Things became a bit stressful when our reservation was somehow canceled, but the staff member who checked us in was kind enough to accommodate us despite the restaurant being extremely busy due to the holidays. We were very grateful, especially since we were celebrating my birthday. Unfortunately, there was an incident with a waiter from the table behind us who elbowed one of our friends. If it had happened once, it might have been understandable, but it happened a second time. Both apologies felt insincere, and the second incident could have easily been avoided by simply going around instead of squeezing between patrons. The General Manager did come over to apologize and generously comped our meal, which we truly appreciated--even though we were prepared to pay. I commend her professionalism and handling of the situation. That said, there may be a need for additional training on how waitstaff should navigate tight spaces and handle incidents like this appropriately. We're still unsure why it happened a second time. Overall, despite the hiccups, we would return because the food was truly great. read more

This place is really loud and the food is okay. For Mother's Day I'm 90% sure we were served powdered eggs so I don't know how they can claim it is farm to table. Also once I was seated with a group of 6 at a table for 8 and we were asked to move across the restaurant to a smaller table, which was fine but a little disruptive and weird. They comped our dessert to make up for the inconvenience. This second time I was there I watched them ask another table for 2 to move so they could combine tables. They offered to buy them a round. I have never been to a restaurant where they ask people to move and especially a place that does it routinely. I think there is some work needed on managing the seating chart, etc. read more

My wife is 6 months pregnant and was not feeling well from the moment we arrived. Once we were seated, we requested that we be put on a separate check so that we can leave early in case she started feeling worse. Well, 15 minutes later she was on the verge of getting sick and they would not let us tab out saying that their system wouldn't be able to process that. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! First off reservation were at 4:30 and at 4:50 I asked the hostess and was told we would receive a text when our table was ready. When I explained it was 20 Mins after our reservation and we were going to a play at 7::30 I was told we are sorry we will try to get you a table soon. Once seat it took over 10 mins to be greeted and then was told our sever Kyle was walking into the building and would be with us shortly but she'd get our drinks. (5pm by this time) at 5:10 stilll no drinks she told us she was waiting for clean water bottles and apologized for Kyle being late. When I explained we were headed to A play and would like to order and took it without writing it down...unfortunately it was wrong. They had my husband's salad wrong and we had to ask did the fries with the burger. Then when picking up the plates they dropped the ketchup on my white sweater. The ribs were incredibly dry however the stroganoff and wedge salad were good. I do not recommend this establishment until they address their customer service. I was super excited to try thid place but unfortunately was super disappointed and will not be returning. It's not worth the time or money. Hands down BEST FOOD I have had anywhere in TX ...I cover the state for work so I frequent all sorts of places to eat at. I ordered the Red Fish dish...cooked PERFECTLY...sooo juicy inside layer of crisp on outside...the mashed potatoes were so fresh perfect light but creamy. Also had a Midnight Marfa Margarita, it was great tasting and picture perfect presentation. The atmosphere and bartenders also made it a great experience. The food is mediocre, but the lack of professionalism is the real issue. Our server was fine until the bill arrived, at which point she became condescending and rude. When I simply mentioned that she seemed to have an attitude, she falsely told her manager ( perhaps Jesse? Don't recall) that I used profanity. I never used any inappropriate language, yet the manager was rude and threatened to have us escorted out?! They looked like really thick banana slices to me - but she said they were great. Might as well as tell you the cornbread was Devine. I will be dreaming of it tonight. Next time I will order an extra one! I also had the tallow fry's - like I said we tried a lot of things! We all liked the fry's. They were thick, hot, a strong crispy snap and perfectly salted. You guessed it, I would eat them again. My other friend had shrimp and honey hot sauce and mashed potatoes. Yes she ate it all. She was as wiser than we were and got the appetizer version. Good news is we have lunch for work tomorrow. Service - wait staff was super smiling, made suggestions and seemed to like her job. My friend's shrimp sat waiting a bit until our chicken was ready. Probably could have been brought out first. Decorations were "high end crystal chandeliers" and lots of regular Texas things like a stuffed cow head and horns. While I truly appreciate those who work on holidays (and we always tip accordingly), the overall experience lacked care and attention. The queso came out cold, we asked for it to be reheated, and it came back cold again. The burger was decent, but we didn't come for burgers--we came for brunch. The best restaurant we've been to in a long time! As a chilaquiles lover, the barbacoa chilaquiles were phenomenal. Not entirely "traditional" but somehow even better. The pastrami hash was very flavorful. For drinks we had the blueberry pomegranate mimosa and The Judd. Both were great. Atmosphere was really nice, the place has a rustic and cozy country aesthetic. My husband and I went to Haywire for my birthday dinner. We had super high, excited hopes for this placed based on other reviews. Sadly- our experience was just Mediocre and not worth the $200 bill for 2. To start, We made a reservation and I was pleased when we were seated right away upon arrival. Once we were seated, our waiter had previously read on our reservation that it was a birthday and asked who the birthday girl was- cool! We ordered our first round of cocktails- the original old fashion and the guava jalapeño margarita. Both cocktails were just okay. His old fashion tasted like straight bourbon without any simple syrup and my jalapeño margarita tasted like the sweet & sour was premade, and there was no spice to it. We then order onion rings, they were really good! Loved both dipping sauces. My husband ordered the 13oz Ribeye MEDIUM RARE and I had the Grilled Redfish with lump crab. The ribeye came out well done. We had them remake it, and the new one was cooked better but the flavor was just so mediocre for a $42 steak. It was thin , tough and chewy. The quality of meat was pretty bad. We've had a better steak at Texas Roadhouse- time and time again. Super disappointed. The fish plate was better than the steak- but could have used salt or more seasoning. The Frisée salad garnish was super fresh and tasty! Perfect freshness for the meal. I added a side of harvest veggies and the variety of veggies was amazing but again, needed salt and or seasoning. Mid dinner, we ran out of water and our waiter took the big water pitcher away to refill it and I guess forgot what he was doing and never brought it back. We had to ask another waiter for a water refill because our waiter disappeared for another 10 minutes. Lastly, I ordered the espresso martini after dinner. . It wasn't smooth and easy to drink. Almost overly bitter. Bummer! We frequently visit restaurants such as Trulucks and Perry's steakhouse, and I was just hoping for the same quality with the cocktails and steak- and it just wasn't. The ambiance in this restaurant is 10/10 and the lighting is dark and moody! It's absolutely gorgeous inside. I wish the food and drink quality matched the expensive feel of the interior. Everything but the decor and ambiance was just mediocre. Service was 5/10. Food was 5/10. Our reservation was at 5:45 so it hadn't gotten super busy yet. Lastly, the table next to us was served a birthday desert with a candle and ice cream so we waited/ wondered if our waiter would mention it or bring out ours. Well it never came. The waiter asked if we would like to purchase a desert before the check came and I'm assuming he forgot it was my birthday like he mentioned at the beginning of dinner. I wouldn't normally expect anything for free but the table next to us received one with a different waiter. Bummer again, and just added to the mediocre service. Our server seemed forgetful and less attentive than usual. Overall, I'd like to end the review by saying the restaurant is gorgeous and the ambiance made for a beautiful date night. I'd like to give Haywire one more chance, if I can convince my hubby to come back. This place seems to be nice for larger groups. Hopefully next time wows us and we can change the review.
