We wanted to love this place, but the refusal to be flexible with their guests ultimately left us not wanting to return. We were there as part of a large party (15+) for a friend's birthday. My wife is 6 months pregnant and was not feeling well from the moment we arrived. Once we were seated, we requested that we be put on a separate check so that we can leave early in case she started feeling worse. Well, 15 minutes later she was on the verge of getting sick and they would not let us tab out saying that their system wouldn't be able to process that. The server was nice and the food was good, but the two hostesses were snobbish and condescending from the start, making us feel unwelcome. We came to Haywire on Easter Sunday excited for brunch, but unfortunately, it was a letdown from the start. We were seated without being told that brunch wasn't being served and that several menu items were unavailable due to a delivery issue. Service was subpar--slow and disengaged. While I truly appreciate those who work on holidays (and we always tip accordingly), the overall experience lacked care and attention. The queso came out cold, we asked for it to be reheated, and it came back cold again. The burger was decent, but we didn't come for burgers--we came for brunch. To make matters worse, our bill included charges for items that were never served because they weren't available. Just a frustrating experience all around. Everything on the menu sounded so good. I wanted to order it all. Even with the restaurant being brand new, service was excellent. Our food did take a while to come out and our waiter was so apologetic however it was not an issue for us. It gave us time to eat our appetizer and socialize. We also understood that these things happen with new businesses. Our waiter was William. He was very attentive. He was great at explaining the menu, and assisting with meeting requests on our meals. The best restaurant we've been to in a long time! As a chilaquiles lover, the barbacoa chilaquiles were phenomenal. Not entirely "traditional" but somehow even better. The pastrami hash was very flavorful. For drinks we had the blueberry pomegranate mimosa and The Judd. Both were great. Atmosphere was really nice, the place has a rustic and cozy country aesthetic. My husband and I went to Haywire for my birthday dinner. We had super high, excited hopes for this placed based on other reviews. Sadly- our experience was just Mediocre and not worth the $200 bill for 2. To start, We made a reservation and I was pleased when we were seated right away upon arrival. Once we were seated, our waiter had previously read on our reservation that it was a birthday and asked who the birthday girl was- cool! We ordered our first round of cocktails- the original old fashion and the guava jalapeño margarita. Both cocktails were just okay. His old fashion tasted like straight bourbon without any simple syrup and my jalapeño margarita tasted like the sweet & sour was premade, and there was no spice to it. We then order onion rings, they were really good! Loved both dipping sauces. My husband ordered the 13oz Ribeye MEDIUM RARE and I had the Grilled Redfish with lump crab. The ribeye came out well done. We had them remake it, and the new one was cooked better but the flavor was just so mediocre for a $42 steak. It was thin , tough and chewy. The quality of meat was pretty bad. We've had a better steak at Texas Roadhouse- time and time again. Super disappointed. The fish plate was better than the steak- but could have used salt or more seasoning. The Frisée salad garnish was super fresh and tasty! Perfect freshness for the meal. I added a side of harvest veggies and the variety of veggies was amazing but again, needed salt and or seasoning. Mid dinner, we ran out of water and our waiter took the big water pitcher away to refill it and I guess forgot what he was doing and never brought it back. We had to ask another waiter for a water refill because our waiter disappeared for another 10 minutes. Lastly, I ordered the espresso martini after dinner. . It wasn't smooth and easy to drink. Almost overly bitter. Bummer! We frequently visit restaurants such as Trulucks and Perry's steakhouse, and I was just hoping for the same quality with the cocktails and steak- and it just wasn't. The ambiance in this restaurant is 10/10 and the lighting is dark and moody! It's absolutely gorgeous inside. I wish the food and drink quality matched the expensive feel of the interior. Everything but the decor and ambiance was just mediocre. Service was 5/10. Food was 5/10. Our reservation was at 5:45 so it hadn't gotten super busy yet. Lastly, the table next to us was served a birthday desert with a candle and ice cream so we waited/ wondered if our waiter would mention it or bring out ours. Well it never came. The waiter asked if we would like to purchase a desert before the check came and I'm assuming he forgot it was my birthday like he mentioned at the beginning of dinner. I wouldn't normally expect anything for free but the table next to us received one with a different waiter. Bummer again, and just added to the mediocre service. Our server seemed forgetful and less attentive than usual. Overall, I'd like to end the review by saying the restaurant is gorgeous and the ambiance made for a beautiful date night. I'd like to give Haywire one more chance, if I can convince my hubby to come back. This place seems to be nice for larger groups. Hopefully next time wows us and we can change the review. So the ladies at work decided to check out Haywire for an early lunch. Two of us had their Smoked fried chicken. Each had an order. Oh my goodness, so much food. Yes. We took home leftovers. We both had a piece of crunchy fresh fried chicken. I did not quite taste the smoke, but the chicken was good. This is a farm to table restaurant with everything made to order. So yes we had some sides. Friends raved over the mashed potatoes. I like the Cajun spiced corn. It had a good flavor which I liked but my friend did not. She loved her Mac and cheese. They looked like really thick banana slices to me - but she said they were great. Might as well as tell you the cornbread was Devine. I will be dreaming of it tonight. Next time I will order an extra one! I also had the tallow fry's - like I said we tried a lot of things! We all liked the fry's. They were thick, hot, a strong crispy snap and perfectly salted. You guessed it, I would eat them again. My other friend had shrimp and honey hot sauce and mashed potatoes. Yes she ate it all. She was as wiser than we were and got the appetizer version. Good news is we have lunch for work tomorrow. Service - wait staff was super smiling, made suggestions and seemed to like her job. My friend's shrimp sat waiting a bit until our chicken was ready. Probably could have been brought out first. Decorations were "high end crystal chandeliers" and lots of regular Texas things like a stuffed cow head and horns. We had the Monday special wagyu pastrami and while it was pretty good, it would have been nice to have known it had horseradish on it before ordering but it was no where on the description and bad on me not to ask. Living near the domain, I've been looking forward to this place opening and it has not disappointed. We got the catfish and pork chop and to put it simply, the pork chop slapped. So good! We had Izzy as our bartender who was great. All the drinks (Haywire, bourbon smash, mule) were on point and he was a great host. Definitely coming back and recommending to my friends who are local. PS. The giant rocks for whiskey cocktails had the state of Texas engraved. Nice touch. PSS. The restaurant looked great also. Nice bar top, good use of repurposed wood and lighting. Went here on a recommendation from 2 foodies I met on a flight out to Atlanta. The decor is fun. A nice mix of modern flair and nostalgic Texas. Very comfortable cowhide barrel chairs and a longhorn taxidermy focal piece. Our waitress may want to refrain from calling it "Bevo" though. Not sure how UT fans may take that. Our waitress had a trainee and they both did a great job, with the exception of one thing I will talk about in a bit. Great explanations of drinks and how menu items are prepared. Ordered the pork belly bites and onion rings. A hint of Asian flair on those bites was a yummy surprise and the rings were everything everyone says they are. Frying in tallow makes a difference in flavor, for the better, I think. Also a huge health benefit versus frying in seed oils. But, I did wonder if we were dipping them in soybean oil mayo and high fructose corn syrup ketchup. But I digress.... Hubs had a mule to drink and said it had a nice kick to it. Main course for hubs was the pork chop. It really was delicious and we took half home. Tallow fries did not disappoint. I ordered the 13oz ribeye with a side of broccolini. Waitress asked if I wanted butter in a way that made me think it was included, but it is $1 extra, which is ridiculous IMO. Already paying upwards of $50 for this entree. And I question if it was even put on there. There was none dripping down the sides of the steak or on the plate, but the waitress assured me it was "brushed" on. Hmm. Steak was good, but salty and I do not recommend the broccolini. It was super hard to cut, basically raw. But they have only been open since April, so maybe some kinks to work out. I was expecting the waitress to ask if everything was ok when I put half my steak in a to go box but not the broccolini, but she never did, so I didn't say anything. Hubs got the pecan pie, which was huge, and said it was very good. Took half that home as well. They do a good job upholding the "everything's bigger in Texas" motto. We sat near the kitchen window and so discussed different plates as they came out. Saw a "cowboy feast" come out and it looked amazing. And BIG. Also saw a meat and cheese board that looked wonderful. I may come back with some girlfriends for a glass of wine and that board. Stopped in for brunch while waiting on the Apple store. I had the RanchHand breakfast. I sat at the bar as the hostess said they were waiting on servers to come in to seat additional areas. A breakfast platter of eggs, bacon, a biscuit and potatoes took nearly 40 minutes. Eggs were undercooked slightly but not a big deal as I like them over easy too. I had requested over- medium but I also get that is kinda specific. The biscuit was very tough and dry. The potatoes were half soggy and smashed and half crispy. The bacon while is a nice thick slide, was cold, chewy, and kinda slimy due to the large amount of congealing fat. No condiments, no salt or pepper, butter or jam or anything was provided. The food wasn't horrible but not very good either. Meh across the board. The bartender was friendly but appeared over worked as her co-worker seemed to only be doing a third of what she was. I didn't ask for condiments as I was now in a rush after a 40 minute wait. I might try them again as I see good reviews. read more

I was really hoping this place did well. After my 3rd time there, I'm not sure I will return. One main reason... the staff at the bar. I have now had 3 negative experiences at the bar. Last night was the worst and the reason I am so disappointed in the lack of customer service and basic friendliness. Is it really that hard to say "hello" or "how are you today?" The worst part of it is that the bar staff smiles and laughs with each other, then turns to the customer with a stern, cold attitude as if the are better than the customers. The female bartender, a young pretty lady, has ZERO personality and was so unfriendly to the customers. I actually felt better when I overheard other customers talk about how rude and cold she was. First time trying this place and we have the worst experience ever!! Took the wife to eat for her birthday and made a 7:45 reservation. We arrive one hour early to make sure we had an opportunity to get in without problems being it was our first time. We check in one hour early and walk around and wait for our turn. 7:45 rolls around and they still have not sat us nor told us they had a delay. I asked the front person about the wait and she stated they were cleaning off a table now and we should be seated. We continue to wait. There was another couple who had the same reservation time as us why idk. Anyhow they proceed to seat other people around us. The other couple asked them also how much longer and they stated they were cleaning a table for them also. As we sat there and waited they proceeded to give the other couple their table first instead of us. With no regards of us being there first and waiting longer then them. Then after complaining about what they just did the manager proceeded to try and lie to my face that he didn't seat anyone else with a 7:45 appt that we were the only ones and when I asked the other couple they stated they had a 7:45 reservation also and didn't understand why they were giving multiple people the same time frame reservations. None the less after waiting for over an hour I just got up and left because I was gonna continue to be disrespected by watching the seat the other parties and leave us sitting there looking stupid or clueless. I will never come here and I will make sure to spread this over social media about how horrible this place was for first impressions. Way to ruin my wife's birthday!!to make matters worse people that missed there first call for their reservation the manager was having the front call them again and again to see if they would show up instead of moving on like u normally should. However they sat us upstairs under SUPER bright track lighting which was very cafeteria like vs dark moody ambiance of the rest of the restaurant. Newish restaurant in the Domain. Nice vibe, cool country chic theme. Their house salad is one of the best if not best salads in town. I ordered the NY strip cooked medium plus. It came purple in the inside so they offered to fix it. I asked them to not overcook it. They brought it back well done. It was dry and tasted terrible. Probably the worst steak I've had in Austin. Where do I even start! The vibe is so Texas from the moment you enter the restaurant you are hit with cowboys left and right the service was top tier! My boyfriend and I have been to a several restaurants here in The Domain and this has to be the best food hands down. Todd was the best server and made our experience even better!
