Truly, I have no words to express how impressed I am with Hiyashi. As one reviewer said, "sushi doesn't get much better than this in Brooklyn". I *love* the fact that they're open til 11:30pm on weekends. I *love* the fact that delivery to my house literally took 10 minutes! I *love* the incredibly reasonable prices! And I *adore* the fact that their sushi is absolutely top quality! I ordered a salmon avocado roll, tuna avocado roll, spicy white tuna roll, and east roll, along with the wasabi shumai - all of them were fantastic! In fact, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the salmon avocado roll was the best I've ever had! And that's saying a lot, considering I've been to hundreds of sushi places in both New York and California, and that's always been my go-to roll. The marbling on the sushi in my roll was, well, gorgeous, for lack of a better word. I wish I took a picture! But fear not, I will be ordering take-out from them again in the very near future, and I will be sure to include a photo of the gloriousness that is Hiyashi sushi. I also plan on visiting the restaurant in person one day soon. Thank you Hiyashi! For being an awesome sushi place, a few blocks from my house. Didn't think that was possible in this neighborhood! Literally my favorite sushi place in Brooklyn. The food is delicious and fairly priced, the staff is very nice, and the atmosphere is great. There are tons of specials all the time, the sushi is always fresh, the appetizers are absolutely delicious, soups and salads are perfect, and even their dessert is incredible. Tired of going to the same ol' sushi places in the neighborhood, I frantically searched Yelp for equally cheap yet well-rated sushi restaurants literally 15 minutes before I was supposed to head out the door. I was on the yelp page of the restaurant I was originally supposed to go to, telling myself there's nothing wrong with mediocrity when I came across Cathey K.'s review where she spoke highly of a new sushi place that recently opened in the hood, Hayashi! I thought, "What the heck! Why not?" Best choice I made that day! Great ambiance. The way the natural light coming in through the screen mixes with the warm lighting indoors is just lovely. I sat down and thought, "This is a space I can breathe in." There's a plasma TV at the back of the restaurant; Sponge Bob was on. Everyone at the table opted for regular rolls which are $2.50 all the time. The sushi wasn't mindblowingly phenomenal (although, have I ever tried sushi of this caliber before? not YET) but it was good, good enough for me to go back. Looking through the posted pictures, I think I'll try the BBQ squid and Hayashi roll next! What really resonated with me was the service. Our waitress was so friendly and helpful; I don't think I've ever had anyone help me remove my chopsticks from its wrapper or poured soy sauce into my dish before. Our water glasses were never in danger of being empty. When asked for spicy mayo, it was no problem at all and was brought out right away, whereas other places will charge for such requests. All around great service! If you happen to be in the area or if you're sick of going to your default sushi places, Hayashi is worth checking out. read more

This is in my territory for work, so I stopped by one day for lunch and had the sushi/sashimi lunch special. Yes, the atmosphere is nice...feels clean and modern inside. The sushi was just ok. My favorite is always the yellowtail, but unfortunately that was the piece I least enjoyed in my combo meal. The texture was bad, like as though it had just been too quickly thawed after having been frozen. I had been expecting great sushi after reading all the phenomenal reviews, but I was sadly disappointed. I would probably come back to try some of their other lunch specials, as their bento boxes were under $10, but it looks as thought my hunt for a great sushi lunch spot continues. read more

Not so much of a fan. The food was OK. Nothing really stands out. The reason for only 3 stars? When I see "hibachi" I think having my food cooked in front of me and entertainment, which was actually the only reason we came here, since we didn't want to travel to our favorite hibachi place in Howard Beach (Shout out to Hagane!) I have been a fan of this sushi place for many years, and I am very happy that it is in my neighborhood. Although they are not opened by Japanese, but these Chinese has been doing a good job to their business. Love their sushi of course, I seldom order special rolls because I love sashimi its own beauty, but yesterday when I had my time reading the menu at home for delivery, I had to try their Fantastic roll. My first bite of this roll make me said: FANTASTIC! Anyway, I love they sell California Sea Urchi, so fresh and fat! Although it is pretty expensive, but they have the most reasonable price in the neighborhood.... really good food. Btw, I never think I would have hibachi from their kitchen, because I dont get to see the chef's to perform. However, that day I don't want sushi, their soup noodles is way too plain... so I was like let me try the hibachi.. Although I dont like the mayo like sauces they serve on the size, the whole dish is wonderful itself! Had Unagi don there b4, so much food! That's all I have to say. Hahahaha again it is delicious, but I think it can be a dish for 2. I think I should get out of my comfort zone to try other dishes they have, it surprises me time by time. read more

Let me begin by saying I don't have a particular affinity for sushi. I know. Many of you are wondering what is wrong with this guy. His opinion must mean nothing if he doesn't even love sushi. Sushi for me is at best, ok. Something that hasn't been cooked has plenty of opportunity for contamination and that just bothers me. So my friends ordered quite a few rolls, dragon, california, rainbow, I don't know. The one with yellowtail was great. And obviously I would love the shrimp tempura. But the service here is what was remarkable. They seemed to know right when to ask for our orders, and they gave us free soy beans on the house. They're a friendly group and treated us with smiles. Whilst I was dabbing my sushi furiously in wasabi, they always made sure my water was full. We ended up leaving a generous tip, and we got candies in return. Although I won't come back since sushi hasn't grown on me, it's definitely worth the time for other aficionados. read more

It's away from sheepshead bay road, where there are 7 sushi bars in one block. However this place hasn't been getting much service lately, which is bad, but it's not in the hub of sushi locations in this neighborhood. I'm not much of a food critic so the sushi here isn't particularly different from any others that I've had. Bento boxes are a must- more for your buck means different things to try. Shrimp tempura and chicken teriyaki are a must. Also, get tea. I say this for any Japanese restaurant really, because water just doesn't go down as well as tea does when you're eating Japanese food. Mochi, dough ball filled with ice cream is delicious but expensive. You can pick up a box of this for much cheaper in avenue u at one of the Chinese markets. Fish is always fresh, service is fast, always can get a table, lots of appetizers to choose from and lots of specialty rolls which is my favorite part of a sushi place! This is a no frills, standard south Brooklyn, less expensive sushi place so perhaps you'll get more interesting in park slope or Manhattan, but this is solid, good food. After the fish not being fresh one time I ordered I decided to give them one more try. I payed extra for specifications I asked to be added. The food came and it was all wrong, when I called back the lady on the phone was rude and unapologetic arguing with me instead of simply saying they'll take care of it she yelled at me for 30 minutes until saying they'll re do it and to send it back with the delivery guy at which point I didn't want to wait another 40+ minutes for a mistake she made. That's not how you treat customers. I've never been inside but the lady who answers the phone barely speaks English and has 0 customer service skills. NEVER AGAIN, stay away! read more

Don't be surprised if you come by here at 6 pm and the place is empty - Regulars come here after 8 pm for dine-in. Many for lunch take-out, as I do. My favorite is their $6 for 2 rolls and salad or soup lunch special. It's the typical Japanese take out venue that'll save you some extra $ for dinner. I never spend more than $20/person with tips. The cashier/waitress are friendly folks that simply want to make sure you're happy with your food. Since ocean style closed a block fro. This place we had to find a new sushi place close to home! We were so surprised how great the sushi is here. We have came in a handful of times and ordered delivery a handful of times as well. The sushi is always fresh, the portions are great for the amount. They are always very friendly! Came for Valentine's Day. I had a very pleasant time. The food and the service were great. The place was busy so the food took a little longer to come out to us but on the other hand, no one was rushing us to finish and move along. The place was designed with Valentine decorations. There were red roses and candles set up on each table. Couldn't help but be cliché and order the valentine roll. At the end of the meal, our waiter (tall gentleman with glasses... Out of the many sushi places on sheepshead bay , it is easy to get bored and turned off by the semi "eh" fish. However, everything I got here was amazing and far surpassed my expectations consistently. I've eaten here once a long time ago and never tried it again. I walked by one day and decided to try it again. I ordered the food to go. I got a lunch special, three rolls for $8.00/$8.50. (Forgot, but it was reasonable, cheaper than if you were to get three rolls separately). I ordered two spicy salmon rolls and one spicy yellowtail roll. The lunch special comes with either a salad or soup, so I chose the salad (small piece of lettuce, thin strips of carrots, one cherry tomato and a small slice of cucumber). I also ordered the Kani salad. It was a rather quick wait. The Kani salad was not too good, compared to other places I've had Kani salads at. The one I got didn't have enough mayo, it was practically Kani and cucumber. I thought maybe the sauce was on the bottom but nope, I finished it and saw no trace of mayo anywhere. The spicy salmon roll was ok (it's a roll I get all the time at any sushi place), not the best I've had. I did like that there were chewable pieces of salmon in the spicy salmon rolls, unlike some places where it gets so smashed up, you don't taste or eat any of the actual salmon. The spicy yellowtail roll, I don't remember anything about it. The pieces were kind of small in size. They looked anorexic to me. If I'm desperate and in a hurry for some sushi, I would prob order from there again. But at the same time I could get better for cheaper if not same price, even closer to where I live. I'll see if I want to try other things from this place, however I still give it a three stars because it was decent, not bad not horrible. *Please add some more mayo to the Kani salad! read more

Service sucks the waiters are very rude they don't want to hands after touching their armpits. The crusty old toaster behind the sushi counter can't close the slice of bread. Which supposedly is to be crunchy salmon. Some of the waiter seem to be lesbians but you really can't tell. The Seabass is dry lacking flavor about the only good thing is asparagus. Is the last time coming here and half 50% off sushi that's BS. Oh and don't bother asking for extra salad they don't like you I in fact after writing the review asked the waitress and she in fact is a lesbian. Sushi tonight! We just ordered from Hayashi on GrubHub and man was it delicious! It's a cold and rainy night in Brooklyn, and who wants to cook when they got home late from work in the first place? Well, my husband and I decided that we were in the mood for Japanese food and decided to try something new. Glad we did! He ordered the fried shumai, he said it was delicious! I ordered the shumai soup, which was delish!! I never saw shumai soup on a menu before, and shumai = happiness in my book! He ordered the pork fried rice & I got the shrimp yakisoba noodles. I asked that they make it slightly spicy, they followed that direction to a T! Yum! We got the fried cheesecake as a freebie dessert (something through GrubHub) and we are waiting to eat that. I'm pretty picky with sushi but this place definitely has my heart for a quick bite to eat. It's located conveniently in Sheepshead Bay and delivers! Everytime I've ordered by order has been correct (even for delivery!!!!), fresh, and tasty. I like that they also allow orders via the GrubHub app making it easy to get quick delivery on nights where I don't really feel like cooking or going out. Not really sure how this place got 4 stars. The sushi is low-grade and NOT fresh. I used to come here all the time and it clearly fell off. The sushi pieces are so big, something you see in a low quality all you can eat type of place. Ordered uni that we asked specifically if it was fresh, it smelled like old socks and was oozing slime. I am an avid sushi eater, traveled to Tokyo just for the food, so I know my sushi. We also ordered a sushi pizza that came with black spoiled avocado when asked to be taken back, we got such attitude, it ruined my appetite. Avoid at all costs! read more

I love that they give the option to order single rolls/sashimi. It's very helpful for beginner sushi eaters like myself because it gives me a chance to try different things. Good sushi for its price. Not expensive because most rolls are less then $3 and that's a steal. The quality of the fish is fresh. It's not the best I've ever had. But I can't go wrong with some inexpensive but good quality sushi. I never had the food to stay because I love pigging out at home. They always provide enough soy sauce and utensils to eat with. Plenty of ginger and wasabi on the side and they're not shy if you ask for extras. Definitely a place that I frequent to order from. read more
