BLUF: A decent neighborhood restaurant. We visited Hayashi for a quick lunch. Food: OK (3 out of 5 stars) - Sushi Lunch: $15 ($16.33 with tax). Five pieces of nigiri and six California roll pieces. The raw fish was acceptably fresh and presented at the right temperature, but could have been tighter. - Salmon Teriyaki Lunch Bento: $14 ($15.24 with tax). The salmon was slightly overcooked, and the teriyaki sauce was slightly watered down. Service: Good (4 out of 5 stars) Hayashi offers complimentary tea. The staff regularly checked on how we were doing and refilled our tea. Atmosphere and Other: - Seating was comfortable, though the restaurant was more dimly-lit than I would have liked. - There is one well-maintained unisex restroom. - Parking in front of the restaurant is metered, but it is easy to find residential parking nearby.

Stopped by and ordered the 2 roll lunch special it came with a nice small salad with ginger dressing and the presentation of the 2 rolls was very appetizing... the lunch was delicious and the restaurant was nicely decorated and the service was excellent...

There're a lot of various Asian fusion restaurants that serve sushi in the Sheepshead Bay area but most of them sell affordable but low quality sushi made of frozen, not fresh fish and other cheap ingredients so despite large quantity of such places, it's really difficult to find one that would offer delicious, first rate sushi and seafood products. Hayashi opened up many years ago and still seem to maintain a great reputation by serving delectable sushi made out of premium quality ingredients and other staple Japanese and Asian dishes such as hibachi, pad thai, donburi-delicious Japanese rice bowl dish consisting of either fish or meat, various veggies, steamed together and served with savory sauces. My personal favorite is Unagi don-steamed white seasoned rice topped with grilled fillets of eel covered by a sweetened soy based sauce and garnished with Japanese style pickled vegetables that compliment the sweet, slightly smoky flavor of the fish and add an interesting crunchy texture to the whole dish. Anyways tonight we ordered Sushi Pizza and it was true flavor and taste explosion-perfect combination of grilled eel, avocado, masago, cream cheese served on a scrumptious, crispy pancake and covered with a few different sauces. 10 out of 10-delicious, filling, portion big enough to share and very satisfying. Spicy Salmon tartar definitely didn't disappoint as it was made with the very fresh chopped salmon, mixed with an amazing spicy mayo type of sauce and addition of masago caviar plus quail egg perfectly married all the flavors and textures-10 out of 10, spectacular, definitely will order again. Hayashi salad had a combo of 4 different salads in 1-kani, spicy tuna, fried salmon skin and a seaweed, was served on the bed of avocado and overall tasted great except for 1 minus-mediocre quality of a fried salmon skin which wasn't consistent, some pieces were deliciously crunchy and very tasty while others were overly dry and practically impossible to chew- 7 out of 10, they definitely need to work on improving the quality of salmon skins. Finally we wanted to try a Hibachi style noodles and it was great-yummy, not oily or greasy, full of that unique hibachi flavor, had perfect veggie to noodles ratio and was generously sized. Overall very satisfying dinner experience, fabulous raw fish and seafood dishes, delicious noodles, definitely recommend Hayashi to everyone as they have a vast menu which would satisfy any craving or dietary preference.

I hate to make decent neighborhood restaurants seems pedestrian or ordinary, in a bad way, but Hayashi is your typical run of the mill 50% off/inexpensive sushi restaurant .... and it was good. My wife and I dropped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and were seated immediately. As expected at the time of the day, the restaurant wasn't crowded, but did have a few parties inside. The menu was pretty straightforward and typical for a local sushi restaurant. There were plenty of appetizers, sushi rolls, special rolls, sushi and specials to choose from. Since it was still lunch time, we went for the lunch special of getting 3 rolls for $9, which is a "good" deal these days. It also came with a miso soup or salad, which we both went with the soup. We were tempted by the $10 lunch box specials, but we were just cravvving sushi. We ended ordering pretty common rolls, such as, eel avocado, spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, etc. I ordered regular cut rolls, while she ordered 3 hand rolls. To sum it up, it was allll good. No complaints as the sushi was delicious. We do have 1 observation though, and that is, it seemed that the hand rolls actually had much more stuffing other than rice, while the cut rolls obviously had more rice. So keep that in mind when deciding what type of roll you want. The service was spot on and fast throughout our meal. The waitresses were always on top, maybe a bit too eager, to fill our tea cups whenever they were a bit depleted, but everything else was perfect. Another winner of a sushi spot in Sheepshead Bay, but you won't be blown away by any of the food that will make you want to come here more than others.

This restaurant has very affordable sushi rolls! I've gotten take out several times during this pandemic and its been quick and easy to order and pick up food. They have great customer service and their rolls are always well prepared.

Was in the mood for sushi so I wanted to try out the sushi they had here for lunch. Tiny restaurant with some available street parking if you look hard enough. It was not too busy when I came into the store to order the rolls, but I thought it was a good idea to call beforehand to speed up the process and just pick up the food. The prices of the rolls range from $2 to $4, which is pretty standard. I took the sushi home and plated it on a dish to simulate that restaurant experience from home. I ordered some spicy salmon, eel avocado, and tuna avocado, and they all tasted delicious and fresh. I would also try the spicy tuna, Philadelphia or the Hayashi roll on my next visit, as I was recommended these from my friends. Highly recommended cheap sushi spot in Sheepshead Bay!

3.stars because of spicy mayo!! One day they charged me $1.50,a mother day $1. It is seems to be ridiculous to charge for mayo, but if you do have at least fixed price. Other sushi spots give mayo for free or for 0.5 cents, but $1+ is a huge overcharge. read more

I haven't had sushi since I moved to Midwood. After browsing the seamless web options and reading the reviews on yelp I decided to try Hayashi. I was VERY happy with what I ordered. I love that they give the option to order single rolls/sashimi. It's very helpful for beginner sushi eaters like myself because it gives me a chance to try different things. I'll definitely be ordering from here again. I ordered right after work (around 630-7) and they delivered in less than a half hour. read more

Love this place! Absolutely addicted to Ocean Salad wich is a mix of cucumbers, seaweed, salmon, other raw fish and taco. Never tried it anywhere else so I'm sure the recipe is unique! Also sushi is much bigger and fresher than in other spots in the area. The only bad thing - waiters sometimes mess up your order since their english is pretty bad, but they always replace it and never insist on your mistake. Love to order deliveries too since one of their delivery guys has already became my friend lol. Very nice guy, always friendly and smiling. Oh, and they are very fast on deliveries too, 15 min and your order is by the door! read more

HORRIBLE! After several good reviews I decided to give this place a chance, what a mistake! This place smells of toxic bleach! I literally became nauseous and light headed, you can not breath in this restaurant! We asked the manager about it and she didn't care, her answer was we cleaned. I'm all for a restaurant being clean, but this was unbearable! When the food arrived I couldn't take it anymore and left, the sushi was below average and this place literally STINKS! Avoid at all cost! read more

Placed an order at 5pm through seamless (approximate wait time was 45 to 55 mins), long story short ... food never arrived! I had people waiting to eat for Mothers Day and had to cancel the order at 715. No one even bothered to pick up their phone. Will never be ordering from Hiyashi again. Furious and embarassed. read more

Hands down, my favorite sushi place in the area. I've been going here for years and years. The prices have unfortunately gone up over the years but that's the name of the game. I still continue to eat in and order out because the sushi is fresh, yummy, and still pretty cheap compared to most places. I honestly believe it's better than some higher end places I've been to where I pay 3 times the prices for smaller pieces of fish that don't taste as good. I love that they have rice-less rolls that actually taste good for when I'm feeling a little healthier (the naruto rolls and lovely tuna are my favorite) and they always have fun specialty rolls. This isn't a hip, trendy place, but it's a solid spot that I definitely recommend. read more

Super cheap restaurant that serves wonderful sushi. I highly recommend the lunch specials, they have really affordable but filling options. I came here with my friend one day for lunch and we ordered the six roll special, I believe. We split the -Philadelphia roll -shrimp tempura -chicken tempura -California roll -shrimp avocado -spicy tuna Everything was delicious and fresh but I felt like the spicy tuna was pretty bland. I don't know how I felt about the Philadelphia roll either because it had a Smokey flavor that I wasn't too fond of. My friend absolutely loved it though, so it's definitely a personal preference. read more

Placed an order for delivery, I was told it would take 50 minutes. No problem, an hour and 40 minutes later the order arrives. All the hot food, now is cold. Everything tasted so bad. I can't believe what has happened to this establishment. read more

This place isn't what it once was. Used to come here all the time for great, reasonably priced sushi. Now, it's more rice than actually fish and lacks the same flavor/taste as the past. The hand roll was pieces of torn up tuna mushed with three slices of avocado - disgusting. Won't be coming here again. read more

Went here randomly when my partner and I could not find a Japanese steakhouse close by. The service and quality of food surpassed both of our expectations. Not only were the dishes creative , they were prepared so tastefully and quickly. The outside was really deceiving at first, but indoors is extremely cute and comfortable. I'm going to keep this short. I ordered four meals for my family and I to be delivered to my home a couple of days ago and every one of the meals was only shades above being edible. If it wasn't for the fact that I paid $80 for the food I wouldn't have taken more than two bites, even on an empty stomach. And if that wasn't enough, I bite down in my shrimp friend rice and end up with a mouth full of hair. This was not a small arm hair, nor was it hair from an eyelash. This was a fully grown, head and shoulders, long @$$ hair. I felt like I was pulling it out of my mouth for five minutes. SAD. read more

I now order take out from them instead because I am too lazy to walk over there myself. At first, their service was satisfying and everything I ordered was as requested. As time went on, they keep forgetting to give some of the stuff. First time was the soda, and the next few times were the spicy mayo I requested. I think they should at least check the order there to make sure they have everything for that customer before heading out... If this happens again, I think I will stop ordering here via call-in/internet. read more

Really good beef fried rice, peaceful atmosphere, and very fresh sushi. I have come here for dine in and take out and both were good experiences. Will continue to use this place for sushi. Would definitely recommend dining in for hot foods like the fried rice and any other warm meals just because it definitely tastes way better in the restaurant. It also seems like the takeout portions may be smaller to fit in the containers than when you eat there. Overall, great food. read more

There are so many sushi restaurants in Brooklyn to choose from that it can actually be overwhelming. Hayashi had some decent sushi rolls and a great tasting Hibachi section. We will be ordering from them going forward via delivery and in house. read more

My sis loves it here and so we go often. The food is yummy. The service needs improvement. Stop standing at the table when people eat. Give people space and don't make them feel like you're looking in their plates. A smile doesn't cost anything. Smile at your customers. Besides that food is good. read more

Great sushi! My waiter was patient as I tried to figure out/pronounce the names of the sushi rolls. The restaurant was a bit empty but considering it was post new year celebration, I am sure everyone was home hungover. My sushi rolls were made in no time and tasted great! I especially love the Boston rolls. GREAT prices and well worth the trip regardless of where in Brooklyn you are coming from. read more

A huge disappointment!!! I just ordered several sushi trays for a party and was only given 10 chopsticks. When I asked for extra I was told that only up to 20 chopsticks are free, the rest I have to pay for. What??? One star for customer service - sushi was still good. read more

The food is great but the ordering has gone down the hill. Who ever answers the phone and takes the orders always messes everything up and when you call to complain they cant do anything about it WTG..after your delivery comes they will charge you for spicy mayo but will never bring it to you. Please hire staff that speaks ENGLISH!!! read more

Nothing too special but we loved that it was super spacious inside We got the maki special tray B that comes with 10 special rolls for put party of 5 adults +2 kids There's also a separate omakase menu that we did not get to try but it does have a pretty decent price point so I wouldn't mind going back to check that out next time.

I also found it weird that it was served on a platter instead of a bowl with the sashimi over the rice. The fiancé got the Hibachi Steak ($24.95), which was pretty standard. Great spot for your sushi cravings. Their rolls are where it's at, so I'd stick to those next time. They also offer a cheaper price if paying cash.

Probably my favorite sushi joint in South Brooklyn. In all honesty, I wouldn't have gone here if one of my best girl friends hadn't had recommended it. The ambience isn't as aesthetically pleasing, but the food makes up for it. I was introduced to the Rock Shrimp appetizer and since then, no Chikurin or Mitoushi has matched it. The Beef Nagamaki is also finger licking good. They have some awesome special rolls as well, loved the Magic Roll and Angry Lobster Roll! Another favorite of mine is their Ramune drink which is a strawberry flavored Japanese soda. As far as service goes, I never had any complaints. I was always greeted and sat right away and the food always came out fast. Highly recommend. read more

This is honestly my most favorite sushi place in Brooklyn. The food is always delicious and out of all the times I've come here, I've never had a problem with the freshness of it. I used to go to a sushi place called Chikurin, but this place is way better and has won my heart and stomach for sure lol. My favorite roll is their original "What The Heck Roll", it may be a bit pricey but it never stopped me. The only problem I may have is that they screwed up my order twice when I ordered over the phone but besides that, this place is great and I highly recommend it. read more

I've been going to this sushi place for the past 3 years, and after trying few different sushi places in the Sheepshead Bay area, decided to stick with Hayashi. I take out anywhere 2-6 days a week and their fish is always fresh, and size is good for the money. You can't go wrong with bento box for under $10, and $2.50 for the rolls, or $1 for sushi. The food is ready for pick up in 10-15 mins, and the staff is very friendly. I recommend this place to everyone! Keep up the good work Hayashi! I love you guys! read more

The sushi here is pretty fresh, I usually order for delivery and it comes fairly quick. The fried tako balls and spicy salmon tartar are probably my favorite appetizers. As for the actual sushi, they aren't cheap on the fish, so you get a decent amount of fish in each piece of your roll. The only thing keeping this from being 5 stars is the fact that their sushi pieces are $2.00+ when at almost every other sushi restaurant its $1. Why would 1 piece of sushi cost more than half the price of a full roll? read more

This place never disappoints. Ordered a sushi deluxe and various sushi rolls. Their sushi is always fresh and portions are relatively generous. I've tried some other places and sushi is either very small pieces or way too big with too much rice. But hayashi has the right amount of fish and rice. Their oyako Don has a large amount of fried chicken and egg on top of the rice. Taste is good and price is not bad. Overall, we had a great time. read more

I am a huge sushi fan. Sushi all the way, everyday. This place has amazing sushi and a huge extensive menu. I order the rock shrimp tempura every time I go and the seafood dynamite appetizer. They have gotten my order wrong a time or two but are always very nice and understanding when I complain. Definitely recommend to anyone who loves sushi and has tried just about every other sushi place in Brooklyn. read more

Very good sushi! I'm not a huge expert, but I like to think I can tell the difference between bad sushi, decent grocery store sushi, and the really good stuff. This place had interesting combinations in their rolls (mango avocado roll?!) yet all the old classics as well. Great prices (i think $2 or $2.50 a roll, not sure if it was just for lunch time) and great service. Awesome place, check it out!! read more

This sushi is the best i have ever tasted. They make all kinds of designs on the rolls. If you are big fan the will give you a VIP card and it will give you 25% off. The eel sauce is the best sauce in the restaurant in my opinion. They even have amazing soups. Over all I would recommend this place for everyone. read more
