Nasty food. Just received our lunch and I got the the red chicken curry... First of all it doesn't look like curry, barely any curry sauce, and bland!. The taste altogether is gross. DO NOT GO HERE!!! My review is based strictly on principle. We happen to like ginger, so naturally we asked for extra ginger with our sushi. The waitress brought out the sushi with a little bit of extra ginger, but then when we asked for more ginger she said it would be an extra three dollars. We have been to every sushi place in Sheepshead Bay and not a single one has ever tried to charge extra money for a condiment like ginger!!! My go to date night sushi spot! I love this place for a few reasons. Primarily it is because of the great location being by my house along with the great decor and overall ambiance. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to go out for dinner or even lunch in, this is your spot. As for the food- the rolls are well made and don't fall apart as they do in most places. Also the spicy tuna roll here is a must! A while ago I came here and they made a heart shaped sushi roll, the Valentine roll? Not sure, but it was super cute! The food is absolutely amazing, the reason for the three stars is very simple; The wait staff has an attitude when you eat there, they need to teach them to smile. Fairly priced and overall the food was prepared very well. It is a bit off the wall scale but you can always tell how quick the inventory/sushi is moving by the salad they serve before you get your sushi. Needless to say, their salad was fresh and crisp, with cherry tomatoes too, as it should be. I also noticed they had a smaller and cheaper lunch special which is nice when you are on the go. Lastly, the service was very good. The service was quick and they came by several times clearing plates, refilling drinks and checking in on us. It is unfortunate that at times they seem to trying too hard by taping up pictures of different alcohol in the restaurant and one would put a neon sign sign at the window announcing "sushi discount." read more

Pretty good not the first time I've eaten here. But as alastminute mothers day choice, ok. EXCEPT my daughter complained dad th is piece smells fishy..and sure enough it did, I mean really fishy, and it was a piece of Tuna. The manager came over but wouldn't smell it, she just gave lame answer - oh how many pieces, ill give you a three dollar credit. what? are you kidding me....i made her smell it sand she said yes, it should smell like that.ff Well id not eat inlaces where the sushi smells. OK it seems one bad piece, but he managements reaction was ridiculous. I told them don't care about he three dollars just give my daughter some salmon instead. BTW it was tuna that smelled. Woohoo for my first review! My friend recommended this place to me yesterday and I just have to try it! I ordered black ninja roll. It's so good! The spicy salmon tastes delicious and fresh. The crunch and the rice paper makes it even better! It's my favorite roll now. But I like to try new stuff next time, so I will be here frequent trying all the special rolls! I used to be a huge fan of Hayashi when the rolls were $2.50 and the sushi/sashimi were a $1. Now, the prices have gone up, but the quality of the food has remained the same. I usually stick to regular rolls and sushi pieces, which are pretty fresh. The Mango Kani salad is great but is pretty pricey. Hayashi used to be pretty reliable with entrees. Nowadays, I find our duck, beef teriyaki, and/or pork katsu overcooked. I usually get delivery, but I recently had a meal at the restaurant. The place was pretty empty for July 4th. We were the only people eating in the restaurant. Yet, it felt as if the waitress was rushing to get rid of us (even though there weren't other tables to tend to) rather than letting us eat slowly and relax. To conclude, the quality of the food is still decent; however, the food tends to lie in the pricier range for Brooklyn sushi restaurants. In addition, service used to be better. read more

Hands down one of my favorite sushi places. Over the years the quality of sushi has definitely decreased, but it is still a pretty good sushi place compared to others. The place is super clean and you never have to wait for a table. Some of the waitress/ waiters are great (they will refill your water, take your empty plate right away, offer you the dessert menu), but others are nasty and once they serve you will not come to your table again. Only reason my friends and I keep going back to this place is because of how clean and decent the sushi is. read more

Sushi a la carte is absolutely amazing here. The price is more than fair. In fact, when I buy boxed up sushi from a grocery store, it is often times significantly more expensive than it is here. My girlfriend and I have regular dates here because of the good prices, fresh food, and friendly atmosphere. The rolls come with much more fish than other similar places I have been to, as well. The only downside is that if you show up at a time when it is not very busy (as in if you show up at 3pm and are the only person here), the place will seem over staffed, and perhaps a little *too* attentive. On one occasion, I had a server literally stare at me during my entire meal, snatching dishes immediately (and I mean immediately) after I'd finish eating what was served on it. We love this place. A hidden gem in Sheepshead Bay. The fish is fresh, the service good and the taste is terrific. I particularly love the spicy tuna sashimi which is served in lovely hollowed out cucumber. Very refreshing and the fish is tasty enough to counterbalance the cucumber. Also love the unagi don (grilled eel) which can, if not prepared properly, be a bit chewy. Hayashi's had no chewiness or fishiness and was a pleasure. I placed an order here as a last minute dinner attempt and wasn't that disappointed. The only thing I found strange was the tiny size of the bag the delivery guy handed me upon arrival. Usually, no matter how much you order, restaurants stuff all kinds of sushi paraphernalia in the bag to make it appear larger or even use two bags. Well not here. Either they are going green or just relocated from Japan where people are running out of space because it takes skill to fit 3 portions into a tiny tray. read more
