BLUF: A decent neighborhood restaurant. We visited Hayashi for a quick lunch. Food: OK (3 out of 5 stars) - Sushi Lunch: $15 ($16.33 with tax). Five pieces of nigiri and six California roll pieces. The raw fish was acceptably fresh and presented at the right temperature, but could have been tighter. - Salmon Teriyaki Lunch Bento: $14 ($15.24 with tax). The salmon was slightly overcooked, and the teriyaki sauce was slightly watered down. Service: Good (4 out of 5 stars) Hayashi offers complimentary tea. The staff regularly checked on how we were doing and refilled our tea. Atmosphere and Other: - Seating was comfortable, though the restaurant was more dimly-lit than I would have liked. - There is one well-maintained unisex restroom. - Parking in front of the restaurant is metered, but it is easy to find residential parking nearby.

Great lunch special. Ordered 3 rolls and all of them were packed with fish, very little rice, just the way I like it. Everything is super fresh too. Give hayashi a try!

There're a lot of various Asian fusion restaurants that serve sushi in the Sheepshead Bay area but most of them sell affordable but low quality sushi made of frozen, not fresh fish and other cheap ingredients so despite large quantity of such places, it's really difficult to find one that would offer delicious, first rate sushi and seafood products. Hayashi opened up many years ago and still seem to maintain a great reputation by serving delectable sushi made out of premium quality ingredients and other staple Japanese and Asian dishes such as hibachi, pad thai, donburi-delicious Japanese rice bowl dish consisting of either fish or meat, various veggies, steamed together and served with savory sauces. My personal favorite is Unagi don-steamed white seasoned rice topped with grilled fillets of eel covered by a sweetened soy based sauce and garnished with Japanese style pickled vegetables that compliment the sweet, slightly smoky flavor of the fish and add an interesting crunchy texture to the whole dish. Anyways tonight we ordered Sushi Pizza and it was true flavor and taste explosion-perfect combination of grilled eel, avocado, masago, cream cheese served on a scrumptious, crispy pancake and covered with a few different sauces. 10 out of 10-delicious, filling, portion big enough to share and very satisfying. Spicy Salmon tartar definitely didn't disappoint as it was made with the very fresh chopped salmon, mixed with an amazing spicy mayo type of sauce and addition of masago caviar plus quail egg perfectly married all the flavors and textures-10 out of 10, spectacular, definitely will order again. Hayashi salad had a combo of 4 different salads in 1-kani, spicy tuna, fried salmon skin and a seaweed, was served on the bed of avocado and overall tasted great except for 1 minus-mediocre quality of a fried salmon skin which wasn't consistent, some pieces were deliciously crunchy and very tasty while others were overly dry and practically impossible to chew- 7 out of 10, they definitely need to work on improving the quality of salmon skins. Finally we wanted to try a Hibachi style noodles and it was great-yummy, not oily or greasy, full of that unique hibachi flavor, had perfect veggie to noodles ratio and was generously sized. Overall very satisfying dinner experience, fabulous raw fish and seafood dishes, delicious noodles, definitely recommend Hayashi to everyone as they have a vast menu which would satisfy any craving or dietary preference.

I hate to make decent neighborhood restaurants seems pedestrian or ordinary, in a bad way, but Hayashi is your typical run of the mill 50% off/inexpensive sushi restaurant .... and it was good. My wife and I dropped in for lunch on a Saturday afternoon and were seated immediately. As expected at the time of the day, the restaurant wasn't crowded, but did have a few parties inside. The menu was pretty straightforward and typical for a local sushi restaurant. There were plenty of appetizers, sushi rolls, special rolls, sushi and specials to choose from. Since it was still lunch time, we went for the lunch special of getting 3 rolls for $9, which is a "good" deal these days. It also came with a miso soup or salad, which we both went with the soup. We were tempted by the $10 lunch box specials, but we were just cravvving sushi. We ended ordering pretty common rolls, such as, eel avocado, spicy tuna, spicy yellowtail, etc. I ordered regular cut rolls, while she ordered 3 hand rolls. To sum it up, it was allll good. No complaints as the sushi was delicious. We do have 1 observation though, and that is, it seemed that the hand rolls actually had much more stuffing other than rice, while the cut rolls obviously had more rice. So keep that in mind when deciding what type of roll you want. The service was spot on and fast throughout our meal. The waitresses were always on top, maybe a bit too eager, to fill our tea cups whenever they were a bit depleted, but everything else was perfect. Another winner of a sushi spot in Sheepshead Bay, but you won't be blown away by any of the food that will make you want to come here more than others.

This restaurant has very affordable sushi rolls! I've gotten take out several times during this pandemic and its been quick and easy to order and pick up food. They have great customer service and their rolls are always well prepared.

They have a large menu with so many choices. Everything is always fresh and delicious. One of my favorite sushi places in Brooklyn.

Was in the mood for sushi so I wanted to try out the sushi they had here for lunch. Tiny restaurant with some available street parking if you look hard enough. It was not too busy when I came into the store to order the rolls, but I thought it was a good idea to call beforehand to speed up the process and just pick up the food. The prices of the rolls range from $2 to $4, which is pretty standard. I took the sushi home and plated it on a dish to simulate that restaurant experience from home. I ordered some spicy salmon, eel avocado, and tuna avocado, and they all tasted delicious and fresh. I would also try the spicy tuna, Philadelphia or the Hayashi roll on my next visit, as I was recommended these from my friends. Highly recommended cheap sushi spot in Sheepshead Bay!

He was friendly and very helpful. The dishes were all so flavorful. The appetizer we got was hor mok. It was the perfect pairing and balance of flavors. The larb was very spicy! Heed the warning, it is SPICY! The main star was the pla tod samun prai (branzino). This was my favorite dish! There were no traces of crumbs left behind, this dish was incredible! The herbs and sauce tied everything together. We were greeted and welcomed by every staff that passed by. Everyone was so friendly and their uniforms were so cute! I would return to Brooklyn for this place but with a reservation next time. Great vibes, food and service!

As soon as we arrived, we were escorted to a table. I've noticed that this restaurant seemed very authentic. They had dishes that I've never seen at other Thai spots. Their chefs are also from Central & Northeastern part of Thailand. So, they are cooking from their respective regions. The presentation of their dishes are all aesthetically pleasing. We decided to share a small plate of HOR MOK This tasted almost like a crab puree into a spoon sized portion. There's 7 pieces in one order. It was recommended to eat it all in one bite. It was great. Texture was very smooth in your mouth. Surprisingly, it had a spicy kick (but nothing too intense). I personally decided to try KHAO PAD MUN NEUR. This is a pricey dish, but very filling! It was said to have 2 pepper spice level to it, but I personally didn't find it very spicy. The rib eye was cooked just the way I like it - medium well (still with some redness in the inner portion). The meat had a perfectly charred/grilled exterior, but very soft to chew. This meat was probably the best part of the dish. Only slight complaint is that the rice was very saucy (almost a bit too much for my preference). But overall, I did enjoy it and was able to finish it, but left super full! Overall, I think it was worth a try. Their service is great. The servers are super great of making sure that your water is always topped up. They explained the recommended way to eat certain dishes. They were able to answer any questions that we had.

Drinks: w head the cha-ba and the passion fruit margarita. The cha-ba was a big miss but the passion fruit margarita was great! Food: we had the shrimp roll to start. It came out piping hot and was flavorful and the sweet chili sauce complimented it well. For entrees we had the pad Thai noodle with chicken and the pineapple fried rice with chicken and shrimp. Lunch in Brooklyn during in-between meetings of my professional duties of a Wednesday afternoon…read moresummons Thai cuisine. Pad Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles), chicken $15.00 Stir-fried flat rice noodle, bamboo shoots, garlic, basil, fresh chili, onion, carrot, string bean, bell pepper, long hot chili The flat rice noodle quantity was sufficient, but minimal and there were too much onion, insufficient string bean, two paucity pieces of carrot. I dislike bamboo shoot which is not a standard ingredient for this particular entrée. I think the bamboo shoot tainted this entrée. I am a traditionalist conservative which bean sprouts is a good substitute variation for bamboo shoot vegetable including string bean. This entrée is my favorite default and as a caveat, if any Thai restaurant or cafe do not offer on their menu I refuse entry to patronize. This entrée enticed my interest and embedded the lunch meal menu for the reasonable price. I personally despise and do not consume spicy hot foods, but occasionally consume mild or very mild in the smallest measurement of the Scoville scale which I specifically requested, but received medium hot spicy. The waitress forewarned me the intense heat level on the Scoville scale as Thai cultural spicy with two or more bird's eye chilies for a high level of spiciness. The spiciness of chili peppers were, in my opinion, medium spicy. Despite the intense medium heat spiciness, the stir-fried noodles lacked flavor with, tender chicken, minimal vegetables, and Thai basil in a bland taste. I wish I chosen shrimp as the protein. Pad Kee Mao sustained my hunger pangs and ate my fill. When eating Thai intense heat spicy foods, I visualize to think of the TV segment "Niall Horan & James Corden Take On Hot Wings" on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" in March, 2020. High heat spicy foods! Thai ice tea, large $3.00 This was a delight and neutralized the heat spiciness because it contains milk. It was served chilled in a large highball glass. Samyan is a Thai cafe located in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn, NYC and accessible via MTA NYC Transit C local train at Clinton-Washington subway station. This cafe is a independently owned and operated, thankfully. The waitress did check-in with me during my meal for attentive customer service. The atmospheric conditions were a simple small dine-in cafe. There were many paintings, portraits hanging on their walls of white subway tiles. Gold metallic metal chopsticks and fork are provided. If utensils are gold then the interior cafe should contain these "gaudy" feature extensive gold elements, including gilded moldings and furniture. Peony rose are very simply and made pretty table centerpiece decorations. Takeout menu and business cards are available for grabs. I did received my sales receipt. At the bottom of the sales receipt there is a suggested gratuity in intervals of 18%, 20% and 22% where customers do not have to perform math calculation. I paid $23.00 in cash as the waitress' informative knowledge of the ingredients and preparation of the heat level on the Scoville scale.

My partner was running late, and even though the place is clearly very popular right now, they still accommodated us with a table. The staff explained every unfamiliar dish we asked about, always with a smile. I usually avoid the standard NYC Thai restaurant lineup of pad thai + generic curry situations and look for places that feel more regional and authentic. The menu here had a bunch of dishes I didn't recognize, which immediately made me excited. They even have a spice guide though the icons don't necessarily mean increasing spice levels. As I understood it, different symbols represent different types of heat. Three chili emojis and three meteor emojis may be equally spicy, but they hit differently. They recommended not to order the pad krapow nuer, and honestly, fair enough. Instead, we got the chicken khao soi, which was far better than versions I've had elsewhere - deeply flavorful, spicy, rich with umami. My partner was crying. I, meanwhile, was at "this is perfect and I'm having a great time." One Huge chunk of chicken cooked exactly right. Mix everything thoroughly before eating. Then came the kua kling which arrived with another warning. That dish became my personal challenge to impress the server, and apparently I succeeded because now they've promised that next time they won't discourage me from ordering the nuer. They kept refilling cabbage and cucumber for us to cool down from the heat. The kua kling itself was incredible. That dry curry heat was everything. It builds slowly, then suddenly punches you in the face - but alongside all that spice is an insane amount of flavor. They also recommended to order a non-spicy side dish to have a balanced meal and spice level, but we skipped it because it would've been too much food. Honestly, this is the kind of place where going with at least four people is ideal so you can try more dishes and balance the spice levels. And if you're unsure what to order, trust the servers - their recommendations were spot on. Also: really great ciders and beers. We were really happy with both choices. Overall, even though it's far from the city for me, I'd absolutely go back.

Newsflash: Ugly Baby is back on its bullshit. Ugly Baby's…read moreconceit, if you can call it that, was that it was really, really spicy. Spicy food, in case you didn't know, connotes authenticity. Call it suffering for beauty, in a culinary wrapper. Ugly Baby took this S&M theater to its logical conclusion in all regards: tuck it in an inaccessible corner of South Brooklyn; use tiny chairs and brusquely inform diners they have an hour start to finish at their table. The more inconvenient it was, the better. I held my applause after my single visit to Ugly Baby, which closed amidst wails and lamentation last year from people who liked rough treatment. But something drew me back to this reincarnation, started by the same people. Maybe, I thought, they'd found a way to bring us that magnetic authenticity, and hold the ball gags and chain flails? The answer is no. I should have known from the name alone: another mysterious two-word phrase (both of whose words again end in -y) that sounds like it could be an overly literal translation of some ineffable Thai concept. I should have known when it opened in the same godforsaken corner of ... what is that? Gowanus? I should have known from the protracted negotiations for a suitable table that followed when my husband, mom and I arrived punctually for our 5:30 reservation and were primly informed we'd be squeezing onto a two top, then were refused an obviously empty three-top ("it's reserved"....oh you mean by a party of three with a reservation like us?), and then grudgingly seated at a four-top, half of which was literally in the kitchen. I should have known after being apprised that "you have one hour at the table." I should have known when there were no appetizers or desserts, and only two vegetarian entrees. This is the same thing as before. We're so back, baby. The mushroom curry, with its single fire emoj, was nowhere near the spiciest thing on the menu, but gosh was it still spicy. How do they make food with such complex flavors that's still hot enough to have emanated from the bowels of hell? It has to be one of the best curries I've had. It's a talent, special even, but it could easily coexist without Hungry Thirsty's other downsides. But I think all those inconveniences and discomforts are the point. They serve to reinforce the specialness of the special parts, counterintuitively increasing your mental investment in internally extolling Hungry Thirsty's virtues. They are to each element what spice is to food: it hurts, and you're proud that it hurts. It all adds up to the second coming of Ugly Baby, and why wouldn't it? Enough people liked being slapped around; maybe they felt like they deserved it. You know if that's you or not.
