We last dined at Haven on Marathon Sunday and there were several large groups there, some who seemed to be newbies, but everyone seemed to be having a fine time. Passed by this place multiple times but finally decided to check out Haven in UWS. Ambiance - 5/5 - Very nice venue with a covered back of the building yard. Service -5/5 - Attentive service and our sever was very helpful in deciding which dishes to get Food: Haven Burger - 3.5/5 - it's supposed to be a double smashed patty burger but it ends up tasting like a normal burger. Smashed patty should be.. smashed with a crispy exterior and a juicy interior. Meat was underseasoned and the dressing was a bit too much Crispy Tuna - 3.5/5, the rice portion is almost like a hashbrown consistency. Didn't feel like it was enough crispy as I would have expected Jamaican jerk mussels - 3.5/5, anything jerk should have a strong vibrant flavor and I'm not sure what muted the heat you normally get from Scotch Bonnet peppers. Some of the mussels were overcooked and shriveled. Nothing about the dish really screamed Jamaican style flavoring unfortunately General Tso Chicken Lollipops - 5/5 great cook on the chicken and great flavor for these Overall, pretty good experience, and the food for me was good but not quite great read more

Nice decor and comfy but modern atmosphere. The waitress was a little weird but the food came out fine. The gnocchi and salmon were good apparently. The kugel was super sweet and mushy. The ramen matzoh ball was too salty and not edible apparently according to two people in our group. read more

Haven is a true gem of the Upper West Side. The inside is really beautiful, and is able to host quite a few guests. We sat at the bar and had the pleasure of meeting Keith, an uber-talented bartender that makes the BEST creative cocktails. I ordered the Miss B Haven, which was both smooth and complex, offering flavors of spiciness, smokiness, and just a touch of sweet. He also made us his signature Lavender Haze (a lil bit of a secret menu item hehe), one of my fave drinks in NYC. We got quite a few appetizers to try - French Onion Stuffed Mushrooms, Reuben Flatbread, Onion dip and chips, Bacon Wrapped Dates, and complementary hummus and veggies. Everything was good, but our clear favorites were the dates and flatbread, they were next level. Our favorite place in the UWS. Food is great and staff is welcoming. The owner Brian will make sure you feel at home. The bar tender Keith is artist behind the bar and runs a speak easy Thu-Sun nights. Gina served us and was terrific. The matza ball miso soup, tuna crispy rice, general Tso's lollipops, and mussels are our favorite apps. Came here because my friend worked with the owner in a past life and we really enjoyed the meal. He needs to build up is wine list (he was out of Cabs) but we had a fabulous meal and at least the waitress gave us some good red cab by the glass. We started with a great salad, had the skirt steak (initially mine was a little well done they redid right away) and we had the gnoochi on the side which was the real big winner. I normally am not that big of a fan but wow the was like an explosion in your mouth. My buddy finished his plate and said "we need more of that" and we ordered another round! Made a reservation for one of the free times they had left figuring it might be busy on a Friday night during the holiday week. There were quite a few empty tables when we got there. This might have been intentional as they're not prepared to handle a full house yet. We were seated in the back (main) dining room. Even with half the tables empty it was very loud when we were first seated. Once a few tables left you could hear the music playing. We ordered three plates to share and were glad we didn't order more because of how long it took and because we weren't impressed with them. You're given a white bean dip to start. It was very bland. Definitely need to add something to white beans to give them some flavor. The first dish that came out was the general Tso's chicken lollipops. These were the best. Nicely cooked, crispy skin! Then came the Sheep's Meadow salad. This just seemed like a bunch of random ingredients thrown together. The lettuce choice might not have been the best. There was barely any dressing so it was a bit dry. The candied walnuts were good. The roasted cauliflower head was last. This needed to be roasted some more; it was too raw. There was too much going on with the seasoning. Despite the slow delivery of food, our server, Christian, was excellent. He continually checked on us. He knew what dishes we were still waiting for. When he took our order he was very thorough with his recommendation and describing the dishes. There's definitely some room for improvement so that hopefully they more consistently receive positive reviews. Towards the end of our meal the table behind us commented on what a disaster their meal was and then a table up front was talking about how delicious everything was. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We enjoyed the brussel sprouts- best I've ever had, the General Tso lollipops, and the noodle pudding. For dessert, we loved the chocolate baba sundae. The stfnuffed mushrooms were flavorful, but they seemed to need a binding agent to keep them from falling apart. The one thing we were disappointed by was when I asked about the days' special, a staff member said, "We don't have any today." We stopped by for breakfast this morning, and two menu items were just amazing: Biscuits- these biscuits are hard in the outside, and are served with home made jam and butter (gravy too if you would want it). Always excited to try a new spot on the UWS so we popped in here on a whim. The bar area is cute and welcoming. The dining room in the back was lacking any ambiance whatsoever. Just dimming the lights and adding some table top candles/lighting would enhance the vibe tremendously. Otherwise it presents itself as a diner. The food is actually very good! Can you believe I found a place in NYC where I could actually see and hear the person I was dining with and could look at the menu without having to use my phone flashlight?! I ate here last night for the first time and loved it. There was a lively buzz, yet at the same time it was cozy and a great place to catch up with a friend. We ordered the miso matzah ball soup and French onion soup mushrooms to start. Both were great. The mushrooms were unlike anything I've ever had before. I highly recommend. Then we shared the falafel burger and tuna. The portions were large. The tuna was so fresh. We loved the falafel and didn't want to eat all the fries, but they were so delicious we couldn't stop! Last one out turn out the lights! This place is definitely on the road to closing. Not too crowded for a Saturday night. I came to check this place out because while the menu is small, it has a vegetarian matzoh ball soup, which is hard to find. The four of us took a long time figuring out what we wanted on the menu only to be told while ordering that they had run out of the matzoh ball soup in the morning! Like other reviewers have mentioned, they seem to be randomly out of things. I asked if I could have the cheeseboard without the meat and interestingly the waiter said that he would have to ask the chef. He came back and that the chef said I could not have it without the meat strange since it was still supposed to have crackers and cheese and fig jam. The reason I was hoping for an appetizer was because there was nothing put on the table. Now I had looked at yelp ahead, so I knew that they didn't serve bread, but I had been interested in the bean dip and fresh veggies which they serve as the alternative to bread. So after quite a long time with nothing, I asked the server about the bean dip. He said and I quote, "I guess we could make up some more." He was really nice about it, but how crazy! We were very specific in our orders of what we wanted as appetizers and what we wanted for the main course. Instead, things came out randomly with long waits in between. We received a salad at the end of the meal. Meanwhile, we were quiet as we listen to a couple sitting in the back, very upset, saying that they had been sitting there for an hour waiting. The waiter was super nice to everyone, but clearly overwhelmed. I think that everyone in the restaurant felt bad for him and tolerated it a lot more because of that. He was a nice guy. For dessert I ordered the cookie in a skillet. I asked for vanilla ice cream on it and they said that would be extra. It ended up being eight dollars extra, which seems a little steep to me. read more

Long time eater, first time reviewer. This is a friend's friend's restaurant, and so I broke my rule about not going to a place until it's been open for a month. And after our meal, I may have to review my rule. Four of us had about eleven things from the menu - it's designed for sharing, which is our favorite way to eat. Almost everything was really tasty and well prepared, even the items that you don't usually find in restaurants. The matzoh balls need work, but everyting else was realy well cooked and the kitchen is clearly getting their sh*t together nicely. Room is very pleasant to be in. They've done a lot to lighten it up and make it feel inviting and warm, as opposed to the darker look of the previous occupants. The staff went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable, and answered my mother in law's questions about the menu accurately and with good humor. Overall it was a much better experience than I was expecting and we'll 100% be back for more! read more

We went for Father's Day. Even though we had a reservation for three, we were offered a couple of two tops inside which we declined. We were shown to the back room where we were instructed to wait while they cleaned off a four top. We waited 5 minutes at least. When we were finally seated, service was extremely slow. We had 4 different people come to the table so I'm not sure who our server was. Of the few menu items, they were already out of one of them (at Lunch!) We ordered items that didn't require cooking but still took a awhile and the one item that did require cooking we were told after the fact was now burned and wouldn't be available. We then ordered another item that never came. The food was average but the service is why I won't waste another dining experience here. read more
