After a great experience last time, I made another appointment with Libby, who's fantastic, friendly and really knew what to do with my hair. When I walked in, I was informed that Libby 'no longer worked there' and that they didn't want to honor my appointment, even though the shop was completely empty (no surprise there). The snotty girl at the counter said she called and left a message for me, which is a complete lie, since I have my phone with me all the time. Forget professionalism, this is flat-out insulting - I can't believe this place is still in business! read more

Finding a good stylist is HARD! Especially if your hair isn't naturally perfect. Thankfully, I have Alia!! My hair is very thick and coarse and, to top it off, wavy. When most stylists see my hair, they immediately razor the crap out of it and leave me to deal with it. Well, Alia really cares about my hair AFTER I leave the salon. I've been seeing her for over a year and every time I see her, I come out of the salon with something new, which I love! I don't even bother thinking about what I specifically want to do it because I trust Alia to take my general idea and make it work for my hair. That's why she's the artist, right?!?! I definitely suggest anyone looking for a stylist to check out Alia. She really listens to what you want and need for your hair and she's an absolute joy to be with!! read more

I had my hair colored by Ashley and it was a great experience! She was very kind and did a great job with my very curly hair. I've lived in Seattle for 3+ years and I walked out so happy with the best color I've gotten since I moved here. Highly recommend! read more

So, for the last three or so years I have butchered my hair with scissors, under the excuse that "I can do as good of a job as anyone else." EH, wrong. With curly hair, I figured it looked fine (since the uneven ends curl into themselves anyways.) But after a while I was realizing my hair was getting out of control. A friend of mine suggested I go to Haven, and BOY am I glad I did! Kim worked on my hair, and she is a master of mops! I got red and blonde highlights and low lights in my hair, and had her do her best to fix the uneveness. With what she had to work with, she did an amazing job AND gave me a handy tip for keeping curly hair under control! The other people who were there were super nice, and the two or three hours I was there flew by. When I need my hair trimmed again, I'm definitely going back. If you want your hair to look fabulous for a reasonable price, DEFINITELY check out Haven Salon! read more

Let me just start off by saying ANYONE WHO HAS CURLY HAIR OR A CURLY HAIR KID look not further!. Alia is an angel sent from the Curl Gods! My and I being the mixed kids we are have always had a hard time finding a stylist to meet our curly hair needs, especially since my mom is Asian and has no clue what to do with black girl hair, and from her not knowing we didn't know what to do either. we were teased a lot for our curls so embracing the look and finding a stylist who could help us do so was a challenge. Then Alia came into our lives and we will continue letting her perform art upon our canvases of hair. She left us with the Devacut and some product and we can now proudly and confidently walk out of the house with our beautiful natural hair well maintained in it's natural state and not feel the need to burn our hair down with a hot comb or straightener read more

Went in for a haircut with Alisha... my first in three years. Like many curly girls, have had some horror stories with bad salons/stylists. Not this time! Alisha was incredibly thorough - before starting, we talked over my entire routine, and she made hair care suggestions/switch ups that were realistic for me (I am pretty low maintenance with my hair). The cut she gave me was one that looked good on me, while still totally respecting my requests (I was really nervous to lose a lot of length). Throughout the process, she answered all the questions I peppered her with on how to best care for curly hair - she's a total expert. She's also the first person that's ever colored my hair, and now I am a total convert to the Deva Pintura! Am confident I've found the new place and person to cut my hair in Seattle (and will likely return in three months, not years). read more

What an unbelievable experience! Alisha is crazy talented and has left me wondering why on earth I waited so long to get a deva cut! My curls are now super bouncy in all the right places and perfectly hydrated, all it took was Alisha working her magic and then giving me some guidance as far as product use! I now have a full curly girl routine that I can actually follow at home that gives me equally beautiful results. I now regularly have people that I don't know approach me and ask what kind of regimen I follow what salon I go to and who I see, how crazy is that?!!? read more

I had a much-needed cut from Nikki this week. I'm a mature (I guess 70 is more than mature) woman with long, wavy, color-treated hair who has avoided professional salon services for a few years because I didn't want either a trendy style or a short, fluffy, grey old-lady do. Nikki asked careful questions and really understood what I was after; a little more youthful, lifted look with long layers. She gave me exactly what I needed, didn't try to sell me things I didn't need. My husband agreed I look great. Nikki - I'll be back! read more

Lisa Pekar is by far the best colorist in Seattle (she even won a Best of Western Washington Colorist award a few years back). She knows her stuff, keeps all color off your face, ears and neck. Most reviews posted for this Salon and artists are well over a year old. The salon is in Ballard and each stylist 'rents' their station, most of the team is new. If you are looking for a stylist who won't charge you an arm and a leg for trendy decor and a 'name' but who will fairly charge you for the best color and cut you will receive, then book Lisa now, you will be so delighted that you did. read more

I was looking for a salon and a reputable stylist that specializes in Deva Curl and after researching and reading many reviews I decided to make an appointment with Alisha. She was amazing! While she was washing my hair she went through the whole process of what she was doing and how much to put in and how to style my hair etc. which was very helpful since I am a newbie to this whole process. I have previously been getting Brazilian blowouts on my hair so a lot of it is processed right now except my new growth on which she told me it will be awhile until it grows out which is fine because it's something I'm willing to do. Alisha was super friendly and was honest every step of the way. Will be back on 3 months to chop some more of this processed hair off! Can't wait till my hair is fully back to normal! Thanks Alisha! read more

I have thick tight curly hair. Went to Ingrid expecting a haircut but rather witchcraft was performed. She was able to decipher my convoluted hair desires and deliver on a great final product. Also, super knowledgeable on any questions you might have. I WILL RETURN. read more

For the three years since my first review, Crysdian's been my hair guru. Occasionally I'll go in with some sort of clue about what I want, but usually I just let him go to it - he knows better than I do. :) So in that time, I've had a bob with both blonde highlights and light-brown color (at different times), a daaark chocolate brown mid-length cut, and most recently, very-red and then strawberry-blonde layers just past shoulder-length. And all have looked fantastic. With Crysdian cutting it, my hair has never looked awkward (except when I've gone too long without seeing him) - he's made a million different looks work for me. And it can be challenging - I have pretty fine, thick hair. And it's so much fun to go in and see him - I'm always greeted with a big hug and smiles, followed by a variety of dishing. I will seriously miss him now that he's leaving for NYC - if I could follow him there I would! read more

Hair color with Alisha absolutely horrible. The color did not match my hair color so I exited the place with a strip of wrong-color along the top. We had talked so long about the "right" color, and so I was sure the issue was with the light in the salon (or my eyesight). In the end I had to spend $75 and two more hours to get it corrected. Elsewhere of course. read more

I came into Haven Salon for my first ever DevaCut, and it was amazing! I had Lisa, and she was very nice and really took her time making sure I had a great result! Definitely will be coming back. read more

The effects of positive transformation cannot be underestimated, even though changing the color of my hair can be scary for me. I entrusted myself to Alisha Riff for the first time as a class subject, allowing her to cut, color, do-what-you-will-to-my-hair and the results were amazing. Layers of nuanced color and an excellent cut made me believe that my hair always wanted to be this, to do this. It just took Alisha to see it and to make it happen. Attending a large gathering immediately afterward, five people told me, flat out, that I am beautiful. In fact, every time that she has 'had her way' with my hair, people that I know marginally have approached me asking what was different, and that it was gorgeous. I trust her implicitly, as one would do with any respected artist, and have always been incredibly satisfied. She sees possibilties where others do not and practices her craft with kindness, laughter and joy. I recommend her to everyone that asks. Please check out her Instagram feeds to witness the transformative work that she does for men, women and children. It really is incredible. read more

Haven Salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Seattle, Washington

I was in a bad way when I left a voicemail at Haven on a Sunday morning. I had just spent way too much money at another salon that left me with a less than good cut and damaged hair. Then the heavens parted and angels sang when Ingrid called me back and was able to see me later *that* afternoon for a corrective cut. She spent a few minutes sitting with me and listening to my tale of woe while we looked at pictures of what I had originally wanted and my natural, unharmed hair. After that, she worked her magic and showed me how to wear my naturally wavy/curly hair while I work to bring it back to life. Also, as someone who is used to feeling the need to apologize for my hair, how much of it there is, and how long it can take to work on, I never felt that once while I was there. I ended up walking out with an awesome haircut that I actually really like! Not one I just have to tolerate until it grows back out. I'm so excited to continue working with Ingrid and feel so grateful. read more

Ingrid is AMAZING!! I have been seeing her at Haven Salon for a while and can't imagine going anywhere else. I get my color with her every 3-4 months. Ingrid does an amazing job making sure that my hair stays healthy while getting color. And bonus is that Ingrid is certified with Deva Curl. Plus she is super funny and makes the salon visit so much fun!! read more

I recently moved to the Seattle area and have been searching for someone I can trust to cut my thick curly hair and I found her at Haven! Ingrid was absolutely amazing! She walked me through my first (but definitely not last) Deva Curl haircut and I know it sounds cliche but she really did turn my dry frizzy hair into bouncy moisturized curls! And our fun conversation was a great bonus :) I highly recommend Ingrid at Haven; she was professional, fun, and super knowledgeable! read more

Tara is absolutely fabulous. I came here on a whim, desperate to get my bangs out of my eyes. It was the only place open in Ballard on Sundays that had appointments available for the same day. She paid complete attention to my asks, and was able to make my hair style look fresh without taking off much length at all. I feel great! The layers look lovely, she took a very critical eye to various sections to make sure the length matched on every side. She's obviously very careful to get it right. I think the biggest thing though, is the personality of your stylist can make or break your experience. I've had nice stylists who destroyed my hair, or great stylists with downright mean personalities. Tara, though, is the perfect blend of talented stylist and conversationalist. I've lived in Seattle for two years and never settled on a stylist yet. Never going to anyone else now! read more

I have to be the voice of dissent. I had an odd and not great experience with Crysdian. I originally had an appointment scheduled for St. Patrick's day at, like, 6:30. When I went in and explained that I was thinking of growing my very short hair, he said if I really wanted to do that I should hold off a month. He'd love to take my money, he said but for what I wanted, it was best to wait. Which I thought was pretty cool! Tough time for everyone and he was listening to me and recommending putting my cut off. So far, so good. So, I made an appointment for a month later. He called me that day to say that he needed to reschedule. I think it ended up getting rescheduled twice. When I finally got into see him it was just not a great experience. First off, two different times he put his hands in my hair RIGHT after having a cigarette. I am not a total tight-ass and sometimes smoke myself. But yucko. He honestly acted like he could have cared less that I was there. Barely spoke to me, spent most of the time singing to the Pet Shop Boys or whatever was playing on the stereo. I got decent color but a totally so-so hair cut AND I left with wet hair! I ended up wondering if his original suggestion to put off my cut was as much about getting out to the St. Patrick's Day festivities than any great customer service instinct. Fortunately, he didn't ask about making a next appointment and I have no intention of going back. I live right up the street from this place and love the space with the garden area. Lovely. I'd love it if this place would succeed but I sure as hell won't be going back. read more

Maybe, just maybe I caught Crysdian on a bad day. I've waited to post this review because I thought maybe this was not the norm, but after reading another review I realized that our experiences were similar. My usual hair stylist went back to school (for social work for goodness sake!) so I searched and found a neighborhood spot, Haven. I had high hopes. I scheduled on a weekday, which typically is not so busy for salons, so I expected a somewhat empty space. I did not expect the doors to be locked when I arrived! LOCKED! I waited (and waited and waited) and made phone calls to the number I have for Haven that went right to voice mail. Finally, as I was getting into my car to leave about 15 minutes after my appointment was to start Crysdian shows up walking his dog. (Full disclosure: one of my biggest pet peeves is lateness--there are very few excuses that will work for me) His excuse was that his bus from downtown was very late. I understood as I have also been a slave to the metro schedules so I was willing to start the forgiveness process. BUT... he made me wait more as he checked messages and got his dog settled. Hmmm. The haircut was good and the color was good--nothing so exciting that I could excuse the earlier disappointment. Halfway through my color he went outside to smoke, which is fine with me, but then didn't wash enough to get the smell out of his fingers. Yuck. I don't like my newly washed and styled hair to smell like smoke. The price was great--which is why my experience gets 2 stars. But, not sure what he typically charges, I think he knew that I didn't feel like the experience was the best. The garden is beautiful outside--too bad I wasn't offered a chance to go out to view it, probably never will. read more

This is my first ever yelp review, but 3 weeks later I still haven't been able to shake the upsetting experience I had with Nancy, so it felt only right to let others know. It was my first time visiting Haven and I came in looking for a decent trim to my very long, straight hair. My hair was just above my belly button and we discussed taking 5-6 inches to get rid of the damage and bring it up to bra strap length. I shared with Nancy that I am getting married this winter so wanted to keep a good amount of length for the wedding. I felt confident we were aligned and she even held up an 8 inch comb pointing part way up to show me how much she was going to take off. She ended up taking off about 9-10 inches and I left the salon with a collarbone length cut. I was too stunned to have much of a reaction in the moment but left very upset to have lost 4 more inches of length than I asked for. I had every intention of sucking it up and getting over it, marking the experience as a misunderstanding, but later that night my fiancé noticed the left side of my hair was nearly an inch longer than my right. I called the salon to see if I could come in to have it fixed and Nancy texted me with a time slot that worked. Unfortunately, the experience of going back to have my hair touched up is the reason I am writing this review. With no other stylists still working in the salon, Nancy was incredibly rude, defensive and frankly unkind. She led by claiming I asked for a short haircut and told me the reason my hair looked uneven was that I was "pulling it over my shoulders in a weird way" and she "had never seen anyone do that with their hair before". I felt like I was being gaslit and bullied by Nancy in a way I have never experienced in a professional setting. I left crying, not because I was unhappy with my hair, but because I felt berated, bullied and dismissed. read more

It's been about a year since I've been going to Haven and Alisha is seriously amazing. I love how she cuts my super thick hair so that it's totally manageable, and she is an artist with color. I've loved every cut and color she's ever done and it continues to look nice as it grows out before my next appointment. I also really love or chats. She's so down to earth, funny, a good listener, perceptive, and just real. As far as the salon itself, parking is fairly easy for being in Ballard, and the salon is easy going, not pretentious and they don't push product. Love love love Alisha and Haven salon!! read more

I followed my stylist Lisa to Haven after she moved on from Source and then Sweet Lily. I really like Haven, it's very nice inside but also very calming and quiet. Parking is also easy. I have been going to Lisa for over 5 years now and I cannot say enough good things about her. Even though I pretty much stick to the same style, Lisa always asks what I would like to do today, listens intently, and delivers an amazing cut each time, I never feel rushed or pressured to change it up. She gives great attention and care to my cut and each time I come away absolutely loving my hair. Lisa is also super easy going and very easy and fun to chat to. I know she will be my stylist for as long as I live in Seattle. read more

I'd like to preface this by saying I have never reviewed anybody online before. I've also never had the motivation to travel 4 1/2 hours from where I live in the San Juan Islands to visit a hair stylist in Seattle! Ingrid is an expert in her craft...especially with curly hair. She gave me the first haircut I've ever had where I didn't feel the need to immediately wash, restyle, and hope it'll grow out. She helped me take the plunge with bangs. She'll also teach you all the little tips and tricks if you haven't already combed the internet for curly hair techniques. Super friendly with body positive and hair positive vibes, I'm going to continue to make the trek to visit Ingrid, currently the only person I trust with my hair. I can't tell you guys what a relief it is to know that 1. I'm not wasting my money and 2. It's going to look fantastic on every level. Plus she does free bang touch-ups! Part of me wishes I could move back to Seattle so I could take advantage of more frequent haircuts! Book as soon as possible if you can, she's pretty popular. read more

I obtained a gift certificate for a color and cut at a fundraiser auction last spring. While the staff were friendly, if you could make eye contact with them, they didn't go out of their way to make me feel welcome. My certificate was for service with Kimberly Stewart. She was very friendly and out going once we finally got started. She was great with helping me pick colors for my hair, however she disappeared during the initial discussion, which was kind of odd. She made sure the color didn't stain my face, neck and ears. The cut was good, but since I was just getting a trim, I can't really comment on her ability beyond that. The big reason my rating is so low is because when I was checking out I had a surprise $40 additional charge. It was never discussed during the consultation process. If I had known there might be extra charges for any of the color service, I would have asked for modifications during the consultation. There was no fine print on the certificate that said there could be extra charges- everything was supposed to be covered! I left the shop very disappointed and vowing to not go back. I also promised to tell everyone I know to NOT go there and I let the auction committee know of the disappointing visit so that they can warn other certificate winners and consider not accepting her donation in the future (at least not without some warnings). read more

CURLY HAIR: I went to Haven for the first time last week and saw Alisha, and I have to say this was the BEST hair cut I've ever gotten on my very curly hair!!! She did a Deva-curl cut on me and really listened to exactly what I wanted. I have seriously never left a salon soooo happy with the way I looked!! I am mostly impressed because stylists usually seem to over-cut curly hair, and I've had this happen in the past. Alisha did not do this, though! She gave me the exact length I wanted with all the layers I asked for. I was also impressed that she was not pushy at all towards me buying products at the end, but I decided to buy them on my own terms because my hair looked so beautiful after she used them on me. I will definitely be a client here with Alisha for as long as I'm in Seattle! 100% recommend for curly hair. :) read more

Alisha was fantastic! It was my first time at Haven so wasn't sure what to expect, but I got a cut and color and it turned out exactly how I had hoped! I just moved to Seattle from Los Angeles and was looking for a local hair salon. I received a $100 coupon with the move-in package from my apartment so I decided to give Crysdian at Haven a try. Hands down one of the best haircuts I've had in a while. A few times in my life, I have splurged on haircuts and have gotten really good ones but for the price he charges for the haircuts at his salon, I think the haircut I received is absolutely phenomenal. I have a lot of hair and Crysdian used a textured thinning scissors to take the weight off. I've had stylist use regular thinning shears before and i do not like the effect after a couple of months as the hair starts to grow out. So, I hope these textured shears have a better effect. But right now, my hair looks glorious! read more

Katherine (Cate) was awesome!!!!! I should probably start by saying that I have been to nearly every salon in Ballard, sometimes against better judgment more than once, and have felt everything from insulted, disappointed, to downright pissed off. Haven does not have any of the pretentiousness that I absolutely cannot stand unlike Habitude and Source. It is a nice and relaxing atmosphere, clean, and the other stylists are very nice...even if you are not THEIR client. Katherine came in for me on a day that she does not normally work late in the evening (before I was a client of hers) and did a fantastic job! She listened to my likes and dislikes and did not try to impose what she thought my style should be. I am very happy with the cute and style and she even offered a free touch up within four weeks. Her price was more than reasonable and she does not accept gratuities. (Although, for her I would be MORE than happy to give a little extra for the job well done!) It's also worth noting that the two other stylists in the salon we also very impressive. (Though I don't know their names..) One had a young boy who did not know what kind of cut he normally got, so the stylist called the father...when the father did not answer he decided to just sit and chat with the boy rather than proceed with the haircut so as to not do something Dad would not like....wow! Props for being so respectful!! The other stylist was having fun with a client and seemed to be spending a LOT of time teaching her client what she was doing so she could also style her hair when she got home...again, wow! So great to see! read more

A visit to the stylist is an exciting treat. Don't be caught up in the illusion of grandeur on Haven's website. If I wanted the atmosphere of a walk-in salon I'd have went to one. Rather, I took my time looking up Seattle's top 10 salon list...my faith has since dissipated from that list! I waited 15 min past my appt time, which I'd left work early for. Come to find out, my stylist whom happened to be the owner of the place, had been sitting getting her hair done. I was in shock as I watched Sasha "the owner/stylist" get up from having her hair casually talked over and styled. Then 15 min LATE stroll over and act as though I'd just walked in the door. I explained to her this was not ok. It was very disrespectful to ask a client to schedule an appt. to then have the appt disregarded as well as personally be disregarded. $80.00 is indeed a treat! A treat that I don't just hand to anyone, specially someone whom hadn't time to simply acknowledge the situation... Hi, wow it's already 4? I'd hoped to be done before you got here. I'm so sorry. Would you mind waiting while I finish pulling myself together? Would have gone a long way...at least sugar-coated the situation. I don't have it in me to give Haven a second chance. read more
