Updated review based on my experience in person and through takeout. I usually go and order a…read moresalmon don which is salmon sashimi over vinegared rice, and the portions are huge for a reasonable price. Generally the slices are nice and thick and there's plenty of rice, but when I ordered this as take out, they gave me much less rice which I didn't expect. I'd also say that they're happy hour is very generous and they have a decent variety of drinks like plum wine and beers. This place can get very busy and it can be difficult to flag down staff. It would be nice if they had one of those buzzing buttons that you could use to call the staff. Overall, still my favorite place to eat at in person. Vibe is casual and looks like there's a lot of repeat customers which is good

My wife had heard good things and we had been craving sushi for a while, so we took a stroll over and gave it a shot. I went with my usual order -- a spider roll and spicy tuna -- and both were solid. I tried a third roll as well but honestly cannot remember what it was, and it did not leave much of an impression either way. The first two though were good enough to bring me back. The highlight of the visit was honestly our server. She was cool, spunky, and had a great sense of humor. We ended up laughing and joking around with her throughout the meal, which added a lot to the overall experience. Pleasant visit all around. We will be back.

We wanted to do omakase so we took over the sushi bar (which fits about 8). For $90, you get 16 courses. I can't remember all the pieces we ate but I do remember that my favorite pieces included the sweet shrimp (especially the fried shrimp head), wagyu, uni with caviar, fatty yellowtail, scallop, and monkfish liver. I think this was my first time trying monkfish liver and it was great. It's rich but it came served with some kind cucumber mango lime salsa, which sounds like a weird pairing but it just worked. They also kept the sake flowing for us, which made for a fun brunch. From the outside, it looks like a regular sushi takeout place, but don't sleep on the omakase!

I am so sorry to write this review, What happened Akio? I ordered again just to see if the first bad experience was a fluke, I am sorry to say the second time was worse! Almost as if they use the oil from other fries to cook the crab and shrimp tempura, Never ordering again, This stuff is too expensive to keep throwing it away

Intimate setting where you can really enjoy your dinner and company and also get to know the owners. Family owned and taken care of very well. All the food here is fresh and delicious and creative. Not your standard NYC Japanese restaurant but they take care to all their dishes. Highlights were the special tofu dish and toro salad. Tempura were all made well and not oily. Great katsu and anything on the sushi menu was divine. Love the toro, yellowtail, and sea urchin. Can't go wrong with either the nigiri or sashimi choices. A wonderful alcohol selection as well with special items i've never seen before but very refreshing were the green tea beer and the yuzu beer. A gem in forest hills and a must try. Definitely a repeat go to place and wonderful place in the neighborhood.

First of all, we couldn't find the place because there is no signage. I guess that's part of the "charm"? But literally when we found it we didn't even know if the place was open. The gates were down, the windows were basically covered and nothing about the place was welcoming. We realized they were in fact open so we approached the door. We were greeted by a piece of paper stating "reservations only". We entered anyway and the place was EMPTY. There was one couple seated but other than that the place was EMPTY. The hostess approached us and I asked her if we needed a reservation and she said we did. So we said ok we'll come back another time and then she said, " well since it's pretty quiet tonight we can seat you." We should have left. We were in there for about an hour give or take and no one else came in at all. At all. Anyways, we ordered our food. I ordered the sashimi plate and my husband ordered a couple rolls. We also ordered the crab and avocado salad and the hamachi kama. Everything was basic. Nothing was amazing...oh except the price of the hamachi kama. Menu said market price and I get it, that means the price will fluctuate accordingly, but $60 for the hamachi kama? I almost fell off my chair when the bill came. I have eaten at very high end sushi restaurants and am almost 50 years old. I have never had a $60 hamachi kama. This one wasn't even tasty!!! It was not good or flavorful. Tasted like they just defrosted and microwaved it. I was wondering why i kept hearing a microwave go off but realized after the fact that that's what they must have done. I did not complain. We paid the bill. We left. Later that night I had stomach issues. Nicest way I can put that. I will say that i ate almost nothing that day so I can only attribute the stomach issues to the sushi. Needless to say we will not be back.

We had a great, GREAT server named Maggie Chen, whose name I am mentioning here due to the fact she was able to set us up with a free desert for a kind (and fair!) review. So here is my (updated) review: - The rolls we ordered were tasty and fresh. (For me, the Rapunzel Roll SLAPS. I ordered the same one - unknowingly - both times I have been here!) - We shared the Wagyu dumplings and the Shrimp shumai and they were honestly SOOOO GOOD. Finger-licking good!! - We also shared then chicken lo mein - also delicious and a big portion (there were some leftovers) - The staff is always kind and very friendly. Again, Maggie was really sweet, accommodating, took pictures for us and of course helped sing the HBD song which never not embarrasses me ever. darn. time. The ambiance is also always very chill, but a hit higher scale, with its beautifully colored mosaic-like rounded booths and a big, full bar, too. Knowing Mito is so good now and so close to my house can be a bit of a problem. I may become a regular but I guess that'd be a good thing for the business, HA. Thanks Mito for a special birthday dinner! Here's to more to come.

We started with the Maki roll, good roll & the Rock shrimp tempura great as always. Next up Chicken tiki, very good nice flavor to the chicken w a little spicy kick to it & the Cocktail samosas, also very tasty. Next was the General Tso chicken very good chicken & the Szechuan skirt steak yumm very flavorful. Sweet end to the course, we had the Cheesecake so rich & creamy & the Green ice cream, just the right amount of sweetness. Service has always been good, they are very attentive. This place has a cool fun vibe, nice decor & good music playing. I'd decided to up the stash since I've never had a bad experience here, food has always been consistent. This is one of the neighborhood places that is good & am happy they are still around, worth checking it out.
