I got the following shown in the pictures. The service was good and quick. Water was always filled, but the waiter accidentally spilled her water in my beef chow fen. The area isn't too special, the middle of a shopping center, but that's not where this place shines. THE BEEF CHOW FEN was incredible noodles cooked perfectly and the beef full of flavor while the bean sprouts and onions cut through all that fat. THE CHILI DUMPLINGS were decent not much spice for a "chili" dumpling, good texture and flavor. THE SIGNATURE DUMPLINGS don't deserve that name, not much going on with them got cold fast, very doughy, not much flavor, and was the worst of the items. THE XIAO LONG BAO was incredible soup was good, flavor was great, the dough was the best of all the dumplings, I'd call this their signature dumpling. THE PORK SHENG JIAN BAO was good crunch, soft on inside, very doughy, but was good just personally not for me. read more

You'd think I was crazy if I told you the best soup dumplings ever were in Mesa ARIZONA. I'd think I was crazy too if it wasn't for the fact that this place is as authentic as it gets. I don't know how they do it but the dough isn't this thick, hearty potsticker type dough - it's paper thin and so the lil dumpling is chuck full of delicious soup and meat! Again, wild to say that out of all the dumpling places in NYC/LA/Seattle, this place in Mesa is #1, but just try it. Also the Dan Dan noodles are amazing, I always grab an order Togo and have them for lunch the following day. read more

Love it! They do run outta stuff but I always get too much because I can't decide. Yum!!

Happy Bao has the best dumplings and bao buns in Mesa. My kids and I absolutely love this family owned restaurant. It is located inside of Mekong plaza and does get very busy on the weekends. I suggest allowing 30 minutes for wait times on Sat/Sun. We highly recommend sharing a variety of plates as a family as the portions are large. read more

I know the owners for years so please use my review as someone who is quite biased. It is like coming back home for comfort food. The owner is from Beijing and wife is from Guangzhou with both distinguished style of cuisine but it blends perfectly since they excel in both. The place offer the back stories of all their feature dishes on the wall clearly illustrated on the wall along with a small history perspectives that I am even not aware off. Thank you for showcasing years of culinary wisdom. read more

This place awesome! We were surprise how a small place like this could produce so good of a food. Our soup was ver satisfying and the 'Baos' are amazing. The ladies, our server Tracy was very friendly and pleasant, she even offered the popular dishes we should consider, it seems all of them are really good. We will definitely make this establishment our regular 'go to' place for any type of meal. read more

Delicious dumplings for a good price! We came here to enjoy xiao long baos but ended up ordering many more tasty dishes like the braised pork belly and tomato egg noodle. Portions were impressive and very filling for two! We arrived at a good time as there weren't many people, service was so quick and friendly! I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to enjoy delicious dumplings! read more

We went here with an intention of eating light & to try the black bean noodle. Service was good. Small place & it takes a bit to get your food. It seems orders were made as you ordered & not precooked. Black bean noodle was not a great choice. Our favorite was seafood bao. Would definitely go back for the seafood bao. read more

We ordered the steamed/fried chicken and cabbage bao and it was not bad. Expect greasiness since it's steamed with oil and fried at the bottom. Flavor was a bit bland but i'm glad they were homemade. Also got their frozen dumplings to go. They come in package of 60. Price was about $20+. We wanted to try their braised beef noodle soup on Christmas Day but they close around 2.30p and was gonna reopen at 4pm. read more

This place is always crowded but it's worth the wait - a very small boutique restaurant in Mekong Plaza. Not many places where you can pop in for some authentic Boa's in the east valley. Be prepared to counter the carbs and protein with some veg later. Very attentive service and clean place. Enjoy read more

Went in to this place on a Friday about 1:30pm. There was one table occupied, the rest of the place was empty. There were three of us, with one person still coming. We were told they would not seat us until our whole party was there. I said we would order right away, without waiting for our fourth person. They said sorry, and would not seat us. Now if they were packed, I could maybe see the problem, but the place is practically empty and we were willing to order immediately. Suffice to say I will never be coming back to this place, I don't care how good the dumplings are - I'll never know. Maybe it's because I'm not oriental? read more

Amazing service. Tasty food. I was craving more of a BBQ flavor in one of my bao, and the Roujiamo (while tasty) was not as flavorful as I was hoping. The Xiao Long Bao was amazing. read more

El servicio es muy amable , rápida y la comida está muy rica. Un ambiente muy tranquilo.

I feel bad that I haven't reviewed Happy Bao's for how many times a month my wife and I go here. Not only is the food delicious but the manager, Matthew, is a great individual. We found Happy Bao's close to the start of the year and have since been going almost weekly. We order the Dan Dan Noodles, Signature Dumplings, and the Chicken Dumplings every time and by now the manager knows our order. This spot is nestled inside a strip mall off Dobson and is worth the drive if you live in PHX. If you've never had baos, buns or northern Chinese cuisine, plan a stop here. read more

The roujiamo was one of the best things I've ever eaten. I've had Chinese food in many cities, but nothing like this! Highly recommend. read more

Came here on a Friday night after seeing an IG foodie account post about it and wasn't too impressed to be honest. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles and XLB. Sadly the noodles lacked flavor that I had to add some soy sauce to eat a decent amount of it. The XLB weren't bad, but weren't stand out either. Maybe other menu items would be more memorable but I probably won't be returning. Although I'll give credit for the extremely friendly staff who were very attentive to us! read more

Happy Bao's is very small restaurant inside Mekong Plaza. Orders came out fast except for the pork Bao. XLB came out within couple of minutes of ordering. It was lukewarm. It would've been so much better if it was served hot. The pork bao came in 6. This took longer and it was served very hot. The dough was nice a chewy and had caramelized crust in the bottom. It was good flavor and satisfying. The veggies are offered 3 ways and we chose the garlic soy sauce. It was fresh and delish. Would love to return to try their black bean and Dandan noodles. read more

This was my first time trying Happy Bao. Just an FYI, it's is inside the Asian Market, which is a cool little spot to check out in itself. I ordered To-Go & ordered the: #19: Dan Dan Noodles: Personally I could've used a bit more sauce & pork, but the mixture of the noodles, pork, sauce & cucumbers was the perfect balance & the little spice kick was delicious! #21: Beef Chow Fen/Fun: Always one of my favorites, so if it's on a menu, I must see how it is. And this one was VERY delicious! Good balance of all the ingredients & really pulled together an awesome dish. #45: Taro Xiao Bao: I honestly haven't had many dessert Bao Buns, but I was pleasantly surprised. I almost wish they had one of each flavor you could order so I could figure out which one I liked best. The Taro paste in the center had good flavor & the bun had the perfect amount of firmness & moisture. Overall would recommend giving this a try, the food is delicious & the amount of food you get for the price is good too. I bet eating at the restaurant would be an even better experience. Will definitely be going back & trying more things on the menu. Oh! I wish I would've taken pics, but I was too hungry haha! read more

Happy Bao's - Sheng Jian Bao Combo 7. Dumplings Combo - Chinese Near Me - Mesa, Arizona

Happy Bao's is packed every time we go - speaks loads for how delicious this place is! The shop is pretty small and there is usually a ~30 minute wait time to be seated whenever we go around lunch time. Definitely worth the wait, so my bf and I just browse the little shops nearby. If we lived closer, I'm sure I'd go at least once a week to get my dumpling fix - they have the best dumplings and noodles in the valley, imo! Our go-to items are the Chili Dumplings, Chili Wontons, Signature Dumplings, Spicy Beef Noodle Soup (so rich in flavor - hands down my favorite from all the places I've tried), and my bf loves the Dan Dan Noodles. Everything we have tried has been delicious though, so I'm never disappointed with whatever so order! read more

Update 8/22/22: Id like to update my review, as when the below happened Happy Bao reached out within 20 minutes and immediately credited me for my order and apologize for the freak accident. I appreciate the customer service. That being said, I have since been back 3 times and each time as been great! Food is always perfect, my favorites are the chili wontons and dumplings! And no issues with below :) definitely try this place! This is my first time at Happy Bao's, I'm really bummed to write this review because I was really enjoying the food, which is why I'm giving 2 stars. Unfortunately, while eating a dumpling I chomped down on a bolt/nut. Im posting this so they can be more cautiousof what is potentially falling into their fillings. Quite likely my favorite place to eat in Arizona. Best Chili Chrisp in Phoenix and the pan-fired pork bun is to die for.

The service was fast but the food was okay. I was looking forward to this place - unfortunately the long anticipated xiao long baos I ordered were cold and some were stuck together so the juice fell out when separated. The rice for the pork belly was a little hard and the pork belly only had a few pieces. The food did not look much like the ones I see on here; wondering if they changed chefs. The pork baos were also a bit lacking as they were big, but airy with a little meat inside that was not up to par with the amount of bun leaving it a little dry. The sauce containers were all sticky on the table. Overall, I am not feeling the hype. read more

Im glad I finally found a place that has decent xiao long bao! They have 2 options: the traditional one with pork and one with crab. Both taste delicious. I really like that the dough is thin, its the first place I found that does thin dough. Also tried their other dumplings, dan dan noodles and cold noodles. Those were good. The only item I've tried that I felt meh about was the Roujiamo. read more

The next time you're picking up groceries at Mekong Plaza, stop in to Happy Bao's for some good dumplings and noodles! Happy Bao's is a relatively new restaurant to the Plaza, next to the dim sum restaurant (which is next on my list!). It's a small space, so probably not great for large groups, but it's cute. There are pictures of bao buns and dumplings on the wall, in addition to life size representations used as decor (adorable). Our waitress used these to give us a visual of the size of the "giant bao" special for the day, which, of course, we ordered when she said it was two dollars and some change (great deal!). The giant bao was about 4 inches in diameter and was stuffed with pork and chicken. The bao dough was great, soft and pillowy. The filling was okay, it really came to life though with a little of the chili paste and dumpling sauce. Side note about these condiments, you have to ask for them! Make sure you do. I'm not sure why they aren't on the table, since everyone wants them. I'm a huge fan of Dan Dan Noodles, so of course we had to order those. Great spicy ground pork on top of noodles, accompanied by sliced fresh cucumbers and topped with roasted peanuts - so good! To round out our sampling, we also order the steamed chicken dumplings. They were the biggest surprise because they looked kind of boring, but had big flavor. Happy Bao's was really inexpensive too. Our total bill for all three items, plus tea, soda and tax was $21.00! Now, is this as good as a famous chain like Din Tai Fung, of course not, but it is really tasty! read more

Food was excellent! We were visiting the area and found this restaurant via yelp. The service was fast and friendly. Nice and clean.

Our first time here and we loved their soup dumplings, the signature shrimp & pork dumplings and beef chow fen noodles!! Sooo good!! Sadly no drink menu & the restaurant is pretty small so seating is limited- we were so happy to snag the last table for 2 right before the dinner rush came :) Also disclaimer- it's INSIDE of the busy strip mall so it's kind of hard to find at first. We will be back! read more

Ren and Stimpy after eating here: "Happy happy bao bao happy happy bao bao!" This little shop used to be Kingo Bowl, which then made the happy transformation into Happy Bao! A group of us stopped by on a Sunday for lunch, eager to try these hao baos! I opted for the sheng jian bao, and sampled a few other dishes such as the dan dan noodles and seafood xiao long bao. Note that the xiao long bao will take about 15 minutes to prepare and the sheng jian bao will take about 20 minutes. The dan dan noodles were a plentiful amount of tasty ground meat, with peanuts, fresh veggies and cilantro. I had a bite and liked the bold punch of flavor from the meat sauce mixed with the noodles. The sheng jian bao took the longest time to come out but it was worth it! The dough was soft and fluffy, with a well seasoned ground meat mixture. They crisp up the bottom of these baos in a pan which makes for a lovely textural difference with the softer steamed part of the bun. Adding dumpling sauce and chili oil made it über tasty. I also tried some of the seafood xiao long bao. The XLB here are probably some of the best I've tried in the Phoenix area. The skins are thinner than at other restaurants here, with a good elasticity and the meat with broth inside was delightful. Service was very attentive for ordering and getting our meals out. I did feel like they could save the poor servers a bit of hassle if there was dumpling sauce and chili oil already set out on the tables for people to pour in bowls on their own. Service at the end slowed down to a halt though and it took quite a bit of time to get our check. I definitely want to go back and try more off the menu! There aren't many tables here and it can get loud quickly as more people dine in so just be aware and make your dining plans accordingly. read more

came here on a drizzling night. located in mekong market. go right after entering the doors all the way to the end and then make left to food court area. currently on the look for soup dumplings around AZ. Had a light dinner. Only ordered the xiao long bao and #1 house dumpling 10 pcs. Service was fast and friendly. They have their own dumpling sauce which was pretty good. separate sauce for the xiao long bao. Food came out within 10-15mins. Pretty quick. Xiao long bao was very juicy, use the spoon provided. Nothing over the top , but decent enough that you'll probably finished the whole thing no problem. The house dumpling, had a lot of chives, less meaty in the stuffing. But house made for sure. Again I like the house dipping sauce they give you, plus mixed with some hot oil. yum. reasonly price around $10.99 for xiao long bao and $8.99 for 10 pcs house dumpling. Good mid-day snack or quick bite. would come back again in the future, but still on the look for Phoenix best soup dumplings. read more

The spicy wonton are a must have. definitely will be back to try the noodle dishes here.

Happy Bao's has amazing Bao Buns and Dumplings but it is hard to find their food! We try to follow their food truck schedule but it doesn't seem to have an updated schedule online. They were shutdown for a bit this summer and then opened in August for a Harry Potter event in their store so we planned ahead and went that evening for the food. We did not know that the event was going to take over the entire restaurant and the Harry Potter fans orders took priority over people walking in. We love their food enough that we waited and took our food to go. We want to encourage Happy Bao's to continue making the buns and dumplings but maybe consider some consistency in their store or a set schedule with their truck publishing it somewhere online and making the buns without the characters? You could make your product faster and probably gain a bigger market? You have great food. read more

this place has gone downhill, the baos are super hard and my bok Choi in my pork wonton soup still had some dirt on it. they're always super skimp on the chili oil too read more

This Bao was somewhat happy at this place needless to say! To be fair seems like this place is pretty new to the scene so I won't be as critical. To start the Xiao Long Bao was a nice try, but having Din Tia Fung before; it's hard to beat yo haha! Their Signature Dumpling was decent; had sweet pork and slight hint of chives and eggs. For my main course I went with the Dan Dan Noodles. Definitely, a tad bit more Americanize that I'm used to, but had a good sweet brown sauce with the noodles perfectly cook to the right texture. The peanuts added some much needed crunchiness. My favorite of the night had to be the Sheng Jian Bao; pan fried steam buns with a perfect crunchy seared bottom and soft and subtle bite a top with soupy pork in the middle. Be careful as you bite into this tasty bun! In the end, Happy Bao has a long ways to go. I wish they had alcohol cause this would be a perfect bite with some beers. The theme is very family friendly, but could really hit it off with some mature take like alcohol, anime and toning down the lights to bring in some vibe. - Enjoy! read more

I was so excited to try out this place but it was kind of a disappointment... The restaurant is very small and crowded! There's too much going on and allot of background noise from the kitchen. So if you're looking for a quite place then this ain't your spot. We started looking at their menu and it seems they serve quite a lot. We ordered their Xiao Long Bao, jjajangmyeon noodles, shrimp fried rice, and their dumplings. So....... The Xiao Long Bao was decent. The wonton wrap was actually a little hard but the soup inside was decent. Fried rice was so bland and who puts lettuce in their friend rice? It's so soggy and doesn't taste right... the noodles was the worst. So sorry, that is not jjajangmyeon. It just had a very weird taste and old smell to it. Wonton was very hard and cold... Basically the food here is not quite there yet. Service was friendly but there this guy server who's very rushing and comes off rude. Anyways, I don't think I'll visit again. read more
