I was browsing Yelp, and then I somehow got attracted by the photos of this restaurant. All the food in the photos looked so good! I asked the Yelp Community whether there was a parking garage or a parking lot, and learned that there should be plenty of street parking. I accidentally drove past the restaurant, so I parked next to Key Bank in the street. It was very easy to find parking on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is small, but nice and neat. We ordered chicken katsu, kimchi fried rice with pork, Dolsot bibimbap, shrimp udon soup, and John sampler Korean pancakes. The Korean pancakes were okay, though a bit tasteless. Dolsot bibimbap was very delicious. I was able to finish it all by myself. Every dish came with purple rice, except the udon. Kimchi fried rice was very tasty. I didn't think it's spicy, but my kid and my husband all said it's a bit spicy for them. My husband ate chicken katsu, and they offered free rice refill. The chicken katsu plate looked big. My husband couldn't finish it, but reported that it was very good. The shrimp udon was also good. My teenage son finished it all by himself. The service was good. They paid attention to every table. (The restaurant was full when we were there.) Before we requested for more water, they already arrived at our table to pur water for us. They're always smiley and friendly. COVID takeout. Meaning to try this place out for awhile, esp a Korean restaurant not located in Capitol Hill. Pre-ordered by phone, ETA 10-15 mins. Located in the heart of Madison Park, easy to find, street parking right in front. Restaurant to the right of ice cream shop. Food was neatly packaged for me upon arrival, boom. I love effeciency! Ordered: Fried Ghimmari, Soon Doo Boo Soup with pork, and Grilled Pok Belly. Got home and food traveled well. Surprisingly, the fried ghimmari (seaweed wrapped clear noodles) were still hot and crispy, not greasy, super yum. Thought the steam from lid tightly on would sog them up. Nope! Tofu soup was hearty, large sized, just needed a zap in microwave to make hotter. Standout was the grilled pork belly, smoky BBQ flavor, a bit fatty (but heck, it's pork belly, right?), accompanied with sweet equally smoky white onions. Also came with 2 servings of purple rice, miso soup, and a side green salad. Way too much food for 2 people, but will definitely be good for at least another meal. Love Korean food so I had to try the new Korean restaurant in town. The food was pretty good but the price and portions is not worth it to me to come back. The menu isn't very extensive but I believe that having side dishes (banchan) is an important part of a Korean meal. If you are into more of a traditional Korean meal with a twist of trying to make it "fusion" (whatever that means), then totally try this place. But if you are looking for a place to eat Korean comfort food, then this isn't the place. read more

This was on average an ok experience. The Sukiyaki Beef Nabe was overly sweet so I didn't drink the broth. The beef contained a lot chewy tendon pieces so I would recommend avoiding this dish. My bf had the spicy pork bulgogi and he liked it. Tender, not spicy but again leaned sweet. Nice presentation and cute place, but I don't think we'd come back. read more

Nice little restaurant. We visited Seattle Japanese Garden and decided to try out this nearby newly opened Korean place. It's very clean and the host/waiter is very friendly. From the decorations and all the utensils and bowls they use, you can tell the owners have really good taste. We really enjoyed the environment there. The food was really good too. A friend was interested in trying the new Korean place in Madison Park, and I hadn't even heard that one was opening. We were there for lunch on their second day of business-- we both had the Bibimbap, which was very good-- hot, fresh, and delicious. The spicy version was not too spicy at all, so feel free to go with the spicy sauce unless you're really sensitive. Hanok must have had a busy first night, since they were out of the spicy pork (we were told that it takes a few days to prepare properly), but I'll look forward to coming back soon to sample that as well. read more

This is a small restaurant; when we were there, there was seemingly just one man taking care of the entire place. Though he was a little absent-minded with us when the place was bustling, he was very kind and courteous the entire time, and continued to refill our waters even after we paid the bill and lingered for a little while to keep chatting. The restaurant takes reservations; I'd recommend one if you are coming at a peak dining time. But on to the food! The food is really tasty and presented very beautifully. We got the Jeon sampler (4pcs), chicken wings (5 pcs), kimchi fried rice with pork, katsu pork with curry, kimchi jjigae, and the nabe. Entrees were moderately sized, the appetizers were pretty small. Wish the apps were a little more substantial. I had the katsu and it was very crisp. Each dish had a lovingly handmade feel. The only reason I am knocking a star is because no banchan is served, which I think is crazy for a Korean place! The owners should really reconsider serving even a couple of banchan. Charging $5 for a side of kimchi just isn't right for a Korean restaurant. read more

Do not miss the cold cinnamon ginger drink if your palate loves a bit of zest! I started my meal with that option, the continued to the spicy seafood stir fry, which was on the tame end of the Scoville scale, but my super-attentive server confirmed we could go much spicier next time. Order the main dishes and you will have a nice hearty rice, miso soup, salad and your choice of protein. Kalbi and spicy tofu were very good. Chicken was on the dry side. No side dishes as is customary in Korean restaurants. Pay $3 for a trio of kimchi which is not refilled. No Korean tea, but sampling of Stash teas instead. A bit disappointed, as I was expecting a traditional Korean restaurant and feel Hanok is catering to non-Korean Madison park patrons. read more

So this place is a little hard to get to due to its location. Maybe that's why the prices are a little high compared to what I usually spend for Korean food. The inside is also fairly small but it looked like they have a couple tables outside that would fit couples. Don't let that deter you though because the food was amazing. The food was still really hot even after driving half an hour to our destination (did takeout due to covid). A few of us ordered multiples of the beef bulgogi and the bibimbap. The place is small and simple in atmosphere, but it is cozy. The service is good and attentive. It is kind of disappointing that it is very pricey yet they do not offer any complimentary kimchee sides, like most Korean restaurants. The have a trio (3 small portions of very basic kimchee types on a small plate) that you have to pay extra for. It is kind of like a Mexican restaurant where you have to pay for the chips and salsa. They also were very skimpy on the bibimbap adding hardly any rice. It is also disappointing that instead of serving a traditional Korean style house tea, you have to buy tea by the tea bag, which comes in assorted flavored paper tea bag packages. Doesn't seem very authentic. I was also quite disappointed that all of the chicken dishes use the cheaper dark meat chicken thigh, even including the chicken katsu. Customers who prefer white meat chicken breast get no option for that. They cook very well, but seem to be doing every trick in the book to compromise traditional hospitality and squeeze extra profits, at the expense of the customer. It was decent to try, but I have mixed feelings on how fast I would return. read more

Heard a lot about Hanok so brought the family in for dinner tonight. We had the spicy garlic wings which was crispy, savory and had just the right amount of spiciness. This was followed by dumplings (mandoo) which was very fresh and yummy. Then we had the calamari which came with this amazing mayo vinegar sauce. For our main course we had the Dolsot bibimbap (in stone bow). It had fresh ingredients, gochujang and crispy rice at the bottom for texture. It was perfection. Hubby ordered the spicy pork (sweet and savory) and it came with a salad, rice and miso soup. My daughter had the chicken udon and they put grilled chicken in it (yum) and good quality udon noodles with great texture. We ended our meal with the brown sugar and cinnamon pancake which was the perfect ending to our meal. A great place to go for lunch or dinner. Ok, we have been back multiple times and the super rude bus boy hasn't been there since. We have either had the same lovely and helpful waitress, or a very kind and helpful man. 5 stars for what it is- it's a tiny location with a very small kitchen so it's set up a lot more like a bento place. The menu isn't extensive (as I said before) nor is it what I would expect from a Korean restaurant (I definitely have a gripe with the fact they don't serve kimchi as a standard condiment!) That being said, the food is all clean and the service has been very good with the exception of the first time I went (hence my previous review). This is a tiny place and the lease is good so I hope they will do well. We will definitely be back regularly. I particularly like the kimchi soup. read more
