I saw a family get the green tea ice cream, so I knew I had to try it out myself. To be honest, I thought it looked better than it tasted. I'm not exactly a tea person, so I felt that the green tea ice cream was a bit bitter tasting. However, I liked that they put a cereal type topping at the bottom of the cup, so it gave a nice crunch whenever I ate it. I thought it was kind of expensive for just the green tea ice cream. $3.50 per cup, $3.77 after tax. And this is without any toppings. Will I eat this again? Probably not. I was really confused at first when I saw cereal inside the cup, thinking it was a ripoff but what do you know it works! It adds an interesting texture and flavor makes me feel like I'm eating green tea cereal. My only complaint was my cup was melting like crazy right after it was made. Within a couple seconds after coming from the machine the soft serve was very runny. Overall I enjoyed the green tea vanilla combination and I'd see myself coming back again. read more

Yummmm. I am a sucker for sweets, so I always eye this place when I come to Mitsuwa. Honestly though, the pastries don't look mouth-watering to me, and there isn't a strong freshly baked bread smell coming from here. It is a little expensive, about 2-3 dollars a pastry. I've had the melon pan and the red bean donut. They were both good, but nothing great or spectacular. What I really like here though is the green tea ice cream. It's soft serve and comes with golden grahams on the bottom of the cup. I forgot how much I loved that cereal! It is delicious in ice cream!! read more

The puff pastry cream cornet $2.50 and apple bread $2.50 were the unusual pastries that made me get in line after ramen in the food court.

Came in on a hot day and was looking for some ice cream and Yelp recommended Hamada-Ya. I thought it was strange since the one in Costa Mesa doesn't offer soft serve ice cream but this one did so why not, I'm here already. They seem to have less variety when you compare the two but it seems the majority of customers come for the ice cream anyway. The service here is friendly but can be slow depending on what your getting. I saw the worker moving back and forth when she was making my half vanilla half matcha green tea soft serve but that the layout they choose for their store so it is what it is. The frozen treat was nice and cold and my toppings of almond, black bean paste and mochi balls were delicious on a hot summer day. One more thing, they take credit card/atm cards as well, which is nice since most shops in Mitsuwa Market is cash only. read more

It cost $10 all together. The pastries and bread looked delicious. There was one bread in particular I wanted to try but it was $7.50 for what looked like half a bread! *Sigh* maybe itsuka. I've had my fair share of green tea ice cream in the past, but none of them can compare because they did not have that silky, airy texture that soft serve has! I added some kuromitsu (black honey) to it for $0.50 which I don't regret, it tasted like the honey in honey sticks and made everything very sweet. I don't recommend this to people who don't like things that are too sweet because this was an overload, but I like it so it was perfect for me. The cereal at the bottom also added a new texture to simulate a cone and it really did the job. Price is good for the portion you're getting and the topping price is not bad, they also have a ton of really interesting baked goods on display and some free samples as well. read more

You can definitely taste the green tea in the ice cream. So if you're a fan of green tea, I recommend it. We usually get the pastries here. I have to disclose that I love just about anything with matcha green tea in it, so I may be biased here. Located slightly outside of the food court of the Irvine Mitsuwa, one can buy bread and other desserts here after one is done eating non-desserts at the food court. During my last visit, the cashier pitched buying the item that's inside a ceramic bowl. I bought it because the bowl is reusable, not because I really wanted the dessert inside. I would prefer not to have sales pitched to me, though. The prices of everything are pretty much standard (although even that's sort of high from my perspective) and it is all very tasty. I came here for the green tea soft serve. The texture was a lot icer than I expected. The matcha flavor is pretty strong and it's actually a little bitter. I almost didn't finish it until I saw cereal at the bottom! I think it's Golden Grahams cereal! It was such a nice find. It was still crunchy when I got to it.
