I'll admit I was not sober. However, I was far from drunk. My taste buds demanded payback for the cheap beer I had earlier in the evening. Luckily, the little cart that could, Gyro Express, was ready to serve. We rolled up a bit after 1 am to a nearly line free Gyro Express. My brother and I both ordered beef gyro's with everything. I got mine within what seemed like minutes and my brother's followed shortly. For less than $10 each, the portion was spot on. The taste, no I won't claim it was the best ever, but some amazing late night food for sure. The staff extremely friendly - especially while I can claim I wasn't drunk, I'm not sure I can say the same for the rest of my somewhat loud crew. A solid review was the least I could do to repay them!

I always say "street food" or food trucks are THE BEST type of food and I was so right with this little mini gyro stand ! Went to Austin this past weekend and had been wanting to try some of the food on sixth and this was one of the places I stopped at and I will for sure be coming back! I seriously can't believe how tiny the little RV thing is and how fast and good the food comes out ! Once 2:00 hits on sixth there's literally a line to get this food, and now I understand why. I bought a beef gyro and it was worth it !!! My picture doesn't do it justice . Will be coming back !

It's a small lil shack that makes super tasty gyro's for $7. The lady who works it, if not there is probably smoking a cig on the corner. Get her attention and she will come right over. Afterwards order your Gyro you can ask for the works, or don't ask for it. I'm pretty sure its the same. If you're super hungry you can take out one by yourself. If you just want to get some fuel in the tank before some drinking, you can early share this amongst two people. Make sure you get napkins because it will get messy. The gyro was great, the meat was juicy and not dry. The wrap part of the gyro was soft and yummy. The insides of gyro, (I'm not sure what its made out besides meat and veggies?) tasted pretty good. I'm sure after a few drinks this tastes AMAZING but I had it sober so I'll give it 4 stars.

The gyro was delicious!! The meat was cooked perfectly and it wasn't drenched in the sauce. Took a picture of my BF in front of their cart and later I noticed the cook photobombed the pic!

I would fight to the Death for one of these Gyros! No joke, it's the real deal. The gyro lady Knows her meat!! Tasty and Delicious...& no I'm not just saying that cuz it was 2 a.m. when I ate one!! For $7.00 she Loads that Sucker Up!!

    Shanty S.

The food wasn't bad, it's just a pity that the personnel (the girl that works there) steals from their customers. Be careful when you pay there; they will add random custom amounts of $90+ on your receipt and you'll never see it, because they don't hand over the device (Square device on their iPhone) for signing and additional tip until after they entered the amount. They will tell your disputing bank that they have $90 sandwiches on the menu and that the charge is valid. On top of that; you paid a tip % on worlds most expensive gyro.

The chicken shawarma is bomb dot com. I have been in Austin , Texas for one week and I have literally eaten here every other day. The food comes out piping hot and extremely flavorful. This place a two block walk from the HILTON and they open from 5pm til 3am.

Restaurants in this city face high…read morecompetition, and try hard to be the next big thing, often relying on flashy gimmicks and a sort of odd corporate hospitality that feels more sterile than welcoming. In trying to be unique, many places feel like carbon copies of the same restaurant concept, all clawing desperately to have your attention and business. In eating at Yamas, I was grateful to find a place where that felt markedly and clearly different. First, let's talk about the most important aspect: the food. Admittedly, my background in Greek food isn't as strong as I'd like it to be, but eating here felt quality wise so much different from other places in the city. The restaurant is family owned(Greeks of course) and you can feel the love and attention they put into making the food feel almost like a love letter to their homeland. Get the traditional Greek salad and you will feel like you picked the tomatoes out of your own backyard. Second, the ambiance is excellent. It really does feel like you're in Greece. White plaster, blue highlights, and a ton of really cool murals around the entire space. They have indoor seating, but I would definitely recommend the patio for that true Santorini vibe. Finally, what felt most refreshingly and truly Greek to me was the hospitality. Despite having no relation beforehand and a packed and busy restaurant, the owners came over to my table multiple times to check in and see how I was doing, and when I asked about ouzo (which I was unfamiliar with) the owners came over and gave me a free shot, and toasted with me. This was totally unexpected and unnecessary but super appreciated. I also saw the same thing happen at other tables so it seems like it's their thing. Really cool and makes you feel like part of their little family. Ultimately, I think this restaurant has a really refreshing ambiance and overall vibe compared to a lot of other spots in this city. Food was great, service was great(shoutout my server Oliver, really nice dude), and overall I left full and satisfied. Definitely worth a trip off the beaten path if you're a fan of Greek food. Anyone who says otherwise probably has an untreated mental illness, the palette of a picky toddler, or an IQ lower than 60.

The whipped feta appetizer was incredible, and they thoughtfully accommodated my gluten-free request with lavosh-style crackers. The pistachio-crusted halibut was one of the best meals I've ever eaten- perfectly cooked and packed with flavor. And the date cake for dessert was the perfect ending: rich, balanced, and just the right amount of sweet. The service was friendly, attentive, and outstanding from start to finish. My colleague and I were in Austin for work and couldn't find a same-day reservation, but we were able to grab seats at the bar without any trouble. It ended up being the perfect experience. However, I'll think about coming here again because I didn't feel a good vibe with the service. We had to go look for someone to show us the table even though the place was empty for early lunch. Then, to get drinks or even the order was a problem. It took so much longer than usual. Our waitress was rude, and seemed bothered that we showed up. Then someone else came as the waitress and she was preoccupied with other tables and barely checked on us. A regular lunch which would've been one hour became almost two because of the lack of service. My friend had to stand and look for someone to give us a box to take out the good we couldn't eat because it was getting late and also to get the check because No one came in to check on us at all. It was almost like pulling teeth to get a regular service let alone good service. Again, the food was really good, and that alone was the only positive.

On the savory side, some dishes I've really enjoyed are the Mezze Platter, Beef and Lamb Doner, and Ribeye Steak Shish Kebab. I chose the crazy grain rice which is a mix of black rice and lentils, and the spicy harissa sauce. The ezme, pickled red cabbage, and adana were my favorites. The chicken was good too and the köfte meatballs were my least favorite of the bunch. The pita bread was also fire and super fresh, honestly one of the best I've had when it's heated up and warm. The box was completely packed and was easily enough for 2 meals or to share between 2 people. Zucchini Yogurt with Fresh Dill and Walnuts ($3.25): Not a fan. It had a sour aftertaste with a citrusy zing that made me think this went bad. Chicken Lemon Orzo Soup ($6.99): Came with chickpeas, shredded chicken, and orzo. It's one of those places that's reliable and feels pretty consistent, knowing you're going to leave happy and full after eating here. The two times we've been there, theres always plenty of seating and are able to walk right in. It's a walk in and seat yourself experience and then you pay upon leaving. The staff keeps the dining area and buffet line consistently stocked and clean. They even provide hand sanitizer and gloves for you. Even when foot traffic picked up while we were there, the food was replenished quickly and didn't look picked over. Now let's talk food...Everything tastes fresh, well-seasoned, and like it was made with care instead of just being "buffet food" an under seasoned. The variety is also amazing, and it's easy to build a plate for pretty much any type of diet whether you're keto, high protein, balanced, veggie-forward, vegan, etc... Some of our favorite dishes we keep coming back for: Shredded beef (SO good), Baked fish (tender and not fishy), Garlic baked chicken (wonderful crispy skin), Fried chicken, Baked kafta, Kafta kebab, Gyro meat, Roasted cauliflower, Eggplant, Greek salad, Fatoush, Kale Caesar salad, Zaatar pizza, Cheese pizza (pro tip: top it with shredded beef- a life changing buffet hack), Rice with lentils, Rice with mixed veggies. For the quality, variety and amount of food you get, this is easily one of the best deals in the city! It's rare to find a buffet that's both affordable and consistently this good! If I had one small wish, it would be for desserts to match how strong the rest of the food is. They're not bad, just a little more "fine" compared to how amazing everything else is. I've seen another Dimassi's (I think in Cali) that had a frozen yogurt machine and I'd LOVE to see that here because it would be the perfect finish! Make a cup and then crumble up some baklava on it! Overall we've LOVED it here and we'll absolutely keep coming back! Great food, clean, consistent, and worth it every time!

Between me, my husband, and my mom, we have a lot of overlap in what we like to eat, but we also have some pretty distinct preferences, and Demassi's is one of those places where that works. My husband really loves Middle Eastern / Mediterranean food. I generally do not. I tend to find the meats too dry, I don't particularly like the spice profile, and I also find a lot of dishes in that category to be overly sour. It's hard to explain, but there's often a sharp, tangy acidity that I don't enjoy. For whatever reason, I don't have that issue at Demassi's at all. Here my husband can get his fix of dry, spiced meats, while I'm happy eating from the huge selection of rice dishes, cooked veggies, and soups. As far as protein goes, I actually really like the fish here, so I almost never eat the meat and still leave satisfied. It usually feels like a healthy pescatarian day for me, which I like. Then there's my mom, who just loves the abundance and variety of a buffet. She's happiest when she can sample a little bit of everything, build plates with lots of small bites, and then go back for more. Demassi's is perfect for that. On top of all of this, it's very reasonably priced, especially for lunch or on weeknights. It's always clean, the staff is consistently courteous, and they are really on top of bussing tables, which matters a lot to me at a buffet. Dirty dishes piling up are never an issue here. Overall, it's a solid, reliable spot for us and a place we're always happy to suggest when we're trying to please multiple people with different tastes.

We started with a shareable appetizer: the pick-three dips with pita. The portion came with plenty of pita, and we chose the eggplant dip, a split pea-based dip, and a whipped potato dip. While all were good, the whipped potato dip was my favorite--it was unique and especially delicious. For my entrée, I ordered the vegetable skewer. The presentation was beautiful, and the dish was very flavorful. It also came with pickled vegetables, which added a nice balance. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp dish that was more stew-like; he mentioned the tomatoes tasted very fresh and really enjoyed it. Overall, the meal was filling, well-portioned, and reasonably priced. We'll definitely be coming back.

Daphne, the owner and Jorge -the Chef, were so sweet, both came over and spoke to us. The food was delectable, we had the calamari, tzatziki and spanakopita which were incredibly well prepared. We had moussaka and the Greek fried chicken. I loved both, with extra bit of love for the chicken which was unique and innovative. We concluded with the greed donuts with honey-out of this world and baklava. Holly moly crazy, we couldn't get up and rolled out of there. Both our server Avi and the hostess were professional and helpful. Can't wait till the next time.
