The food here is fantastic. We ordered the hummus and flatbread, crispy cauliflower, beef kabob, and crispy chicken briouat. The hummus and flatbread is a MUST, the flatbread is to die for and the flavors are immaculate. I also highly recommend the beef kabob and crispy cauliflower. The beef kabob was incredibly tender and the couscous it's served with pairs perfectly. The cauliflower has so many incredible flavors most and is perfectly crispy. We also ordered the Can I Kick It? and Old Thing Back cocktails which were delicious and refreshing. Only a lost star for slow service and it taking an hour to realize we were served the wrong drinks -- though they did eventually bring us out the correct ones (unfortunately, at the end of our meal). read more

I am obsessed with this place this restaurant I found on Instagram and it has just opened up last month replacing the former Masa 14. The decorations and designs are thoughtfully and tastefully laid out. The staff is extremely wonderful attentive and kind. The food came out looking so elegant it was almost difficult to eat. If you're looking for great tapas and drinks in Washington, D.C., then look no further than Gypsy Kitchen. I loved the ambiance of the restaurant from the interior design to the beautifully plated food. It definitely feels like a bohemian escape. If you're an Aperol Spritz fan, then you will enjoy the Golden Hour Cocktail. It was fruity and refreshing, and the perfect drink to spark excitement for warmer weather. Since there were five of us, we decided to order multiple Small Plates to share beginning with the Hummus & Flatbread. The flatbread arrived at our table fresh out of the oven. We ended up ordering more flatbread to finish off the accompanying hummus. Next we indulged ourselves with the Beef Kebab, which was probably my favorite dish of the night. The beef was tender and flavorful, and the couscous was cooked perfectly. While the Crispy Chicken Briouat, Mushroom Toast, and Salmon Crudo were delicious, the serving sizes were smaller than some of the other Small Plates, and therefore more difficult to share amongst five people. The Salmon Crudo was probably my least favorite dish, as there were too many random ingredients included in the accompanying quinoa, including nuts and raisins, which I don't particularly enjoy in food. I liked the Smoked Duck Prosciutto, but I couldn't really taste the Orange & Turkish Coffee Flavors that it was supposedly cured in. The Crispy Cauliflower and Tirokroketes were favorites amongst my group, all of whom boasted about the Lemon Tahina. I'm giving Gypsy Kitchen 4-Stars because the restaurant was too dimly lit when we went for dinner, and depending on your appetite, the Small Dishes may not satisfy your hunger. Wow, what a great place to dine. Food is delicious and comes out quickly. Hummus and flatbread were delicious and fresh. The hummus is a bit on the salty side, but that was fine. Chicken kapama was our favorite. Great texture and flavor (maybe a little spicy), and the chicken was so tender. Cheeseboard was yummy. Charred rapini, we wouldn't order again. The texture was more like steamed rapini, and the flavor was like eating velveeta cheese with a bitter vegetable. Loukoumades was delicious and fresh with great texture, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside like a yeast doughnut. Honey roasted carrots were good. The place is also alive with diners. The patio space is lovely with good air circulation and fans running. We went on a weekday night and didn't need a reservation for the patio, but I imagine one would be needed for a weekend night. I'm disappointed. My sister has celiac's and took every precaution to ensure that the food was celiac-friendly. She even called in advance and emailed the head chef. They advertise as being gluten-free, but they don't have seperate fryers to separate gluten-contaminated from non-gluten-contaminated food. She still suffered from celiac contamination. She did comment that their staff and manager were very attentive and attempted to accommodate her needs. However, the structural support to facilitate a gluten-free meal was not possible even though it was advertised as such. The service was very good. However, we hope that a separate fryer will be installed so they can make good on their gluten free promise. read more

Overall food here was good and tasty. We were a group of six college friends getting together after way too long to reunite. Lots of good food and drink options. We liked being able to try a lot of overall service was good and the wine suggestions were on point. Everything fell apart when it was time to pay. It should have been exactly $100 a person. Easy right? No. They wouldn't just split it for us. Instead, the waiter handed us a QR code and we had to kind of choose dishes adding up to approximately the pre tip total. It was annoying and infuriating. There was no Option just to divide it by the number we wanted. Some people paid more, some of us pay less. For a restaurant that places a huge emphasis on sharing they do not make it easy to share the bill. A very infuriating end to an otherwise nice evening. Do it like they do in Europe or other restaurants around town. Give the server one of those machines where he can just take the payments. So much easier than this monstrosity at the end. read more

I decided to visit Gypsy Kitchen after see some great promo on IG from either an influencer or a sponsored add, either way it worked because I definitely went for my girls night out. Upon walking in there is this strange kind of tight space between the two entry doors. Which creates a bit of a bottleneck when you're waiting a moment for your table and some else walks in. Once checked in I was sat almost immediately. Unfortunately, because it was super busy, we were sat under a staircase right near the register and bar which made it a tab bit loud and gave me a direct view of all the dirty glasses on the bar, but what my seat lacked in noise control and good views was made up for with a great hostess. Alayna (I hope I spelled that right) was our server that evening, she was absolutely amazing and adorable. She was attentive, and regularly gave updates on our food - especially on the items that were taking a bit longer than normal. I tried quite a few items on the menu that were tasty, but my favorite items were my glass of Monestiers - Syrah and the Grilled Flat Iron. My overall experience was good. Drinks are incredible. Food is great tasting and looks great too! We sat close to the bar area and Wesley behind the bar was extremely accommodating and friendly-gave us the BEST recommendations for drinks, what food to get and even how many small plates to order. A 2022 NYE meal with our dear friends. We ordered almost every small plate and shared them between the four of us. Our favorites were the hummus, the kale and arugula salad, and the mushroom toast. The falafel had great flavor but was a bit overcooked, almost burned. For dessert we had the loukoumades and baklava. The baklava was cooked in a small cast iron skillet and the crust, which is my favorite part, stuck to the bottom so half of it went uneaten. Neither of the desserts were particularly enjoyable but we were craving sugar to end our meal. Service was very good although we were charged for a plate we did not order (the charge was removed.) Impeccable! That is the word to describe the entire dining experience. I went to Gypsy Kitchen for my birthday with my husband. I haven't been to a place like this where the entire ambiance was so in sync. Love the small plate large plate sequence. The flatbread was straight from the brick oven, it had that perfect crisp and with the hummus I thought I was going to melt away in my seat. Walking into the new Gypsy Kitchen is like walking through a chic restaurant overlooking the eastern Mediterranean. The aroma of grilled meats, fresh citrus, za'atar, and other spices fill the decorative spacing. When reviewing a place with middle eastern cuisine, ordering the Hummus is a must as any chef knows this is a key staple. I'm happy to say that the Hummus and Flatbread dish was great. The tahini and shelled chick peas were blended into a creamy and refreshing dish topped with sunflowers and pesto. I wouldn't call side flatbread, rather a freshly grilled pita slathered in za'atar. This time we enjoyed a sampling of the small plates: Chicken Briouat, Foraged Mushroom Toast, and the Lamb Moussaka. The food was great, but in my opinion the headline here is the aesthetic. Always wanted to try Gypsy Kitchen and it was a great experience thanks to the host for seating my guest and I immediately seeing how uncomfortable from the temperature we were. I wanted to like this place so bad, but there were too many factors that played against them in the end. First off, I didn't appreciate getting seated right by the entrance to the kitchen when there were plenty of other two-seater tables available. And when asked to be moved, I was told I'd need to take it up with the host who was downstairs. Secondly, the food was subpar. I would not recommend going to their dinner service unless you're craving something specific on their menu. Your options are very limited, and there's no guarantee that your food will be seasoned well. The lamb ribs had almost no flavor. However, with that said, the crispy cauliflower was the saving grace of the night. I'm just reluctant to order anything with meat. Lastly, the service was abysmal. I waited nearly 10 minutes before I was offered any water. Often times, the server was no where to be found. She took the order for more drinks, put in the order so that we would be charged, and never made them, although we saw her behind the bar making drinks for other tables. (Thankfully, it was corrected before we paid). To be fair, I noticed that GK is hiring at the moment so maybe they are short staffed. So, it seemed as though she was stretched way too thin.
