My girlfriends and I came in after visiting the Lip Lab nearby. Thankfully, they were open and had availability to accommodate us! The establishment is spacious, with plenty of seating, and I really loved the decor. The food was absolutely delicious, although I wasn't very familiar with traditional Romani cuisine. I ordered the steak and eggs, which came with meat, eggs, and breakfast potatoes, basically a full breakfast. My only complaint is that a lot of the other menu items didn't come with sides, and they didn't really offer an à la carte option to add something to complete my brunch. So, just keep that in mind when ordering. I honestly cannot remember the name of the drink I ordered, but it was so good that I got it twice! LOL. If you're in the area, most definitely check them out. The bathrooms were also nice and clean, and our waiter was excellent! Overall, we had a really good experience and I'd definitely come back.
Gypsy Kitchen is one of those places you can take anyone and everyone to have a great time and an even greater meal! One of my favorite tapas style spots in DC! Everything and when I say everything, is absolutely delicious! Some honorable mentions are the hummus, beef kebabs, and literally anything bread! Always so fresh and delicious, and the service/vibe is top tier for a good photo opp! PS: Crispiest Diet Coke in DC!!!!!
Changing it up, and venturing into DC, we decided to try Gypsy Kitchen--new for me. Overall, Gypsy Kitchen was good. We ordered drinks and a couple small plates. The hummus with pita and the shrimp fritters did not disappoint. The seasonal sangria was a great drink to start with. However, we ended the night with an espresso martini--learning that they make it with vodka, espresso flavored vodka, and simple syrup. The flavor of using the espresso vodka vs actual coffee/espresso wasn't what we were expecting. I don't know if it's the "vibe", but service was a little slow. I felt like we waited for the bartender to come back around to check on us.
Following a recent visit, my friend and I popped in following the pride parade and were able to snag two seats at the bar. The environment was very comfortable and service was great and quick. We had some great recommendations with the cocktails. I had the 50 shades of purple and it felt so festive. I shared the tuna crudo with a friend and we both loved it. It was so bright and vibrant, I could not get enough of the sauce, so delish! Following my prior review regarding a friend's allergy, I was pleasantly surprised to see that this was now noted as an allergy on the menu. Awesome job by management!
Came to a short trip to DC with my family, was looking for a good happy hour not far from my hotel and was very excited about that place. But looked like I was expecting too much. Bartender was professional but not very friendly, and was not very happy serving happy hour menu, even mentioned that it's until 6:45 and not till seven like hostess confirmed. Humus and patadas bravas were ok, ambience was nice. But in this kind of place at least I expect very friendly and positive vibes from the staff and unfortunately it didn't happen.
We came here for happy hour. There is a bar downstairs and upstairs where they have it. The place interior is beautiful. There's an upstairs patio as well. The staff was great and fast. We ordered pretty much all of the drinks and food items. Everything was good. Our total bill was $295 which is a lot for $8 cocktails and $13 and under appetizers. They participate in the InKind app which means with a referral code you get $25 off. The app allows to split the bill. Great value, great atmosphere and amazing food and drinks.
We paid $130 with tip for croquettes, lamb skewers, tuna crudo, hummus, and two 50 Shades of Purple (drinks with butterfly pea gin). We sat outside on the patio and it was a gorgeous day. The decor is perfect and I love that they've added plants to cover the staircase. Drinks were delicious and the food came out quickly. Our water glasses were rarely empty. Service was kind. Food wise if I were to stack rank I would say the hummus is the best of what we ordered. The pita bread is thick and garlicky and oily and massive. The croquettes would be at the bottom of my list simply because they're dissimilar from any I've had before and a little bit underwhelming. The tuna was fresh but it's a small dish and not much to write home about. The lamb skewers have a subtle kick to them and they're pretty substantial. I'll definitely be back to try more! Highly recommend on a warm summer day as you're covered by the canopy above, if you're looking for a rooftop vibe.
We came to Gypsy Kitchen for our anniversary, and it was the perfect spot! The service was speedy and kind, and the decor/ambiance was beautiful. We ordered a bottle of the Cava, and four small plates, which was plenty of food. The mussels, labneh and Patatas bravas were all very generous portions. Labneh: 5/5, delicious, served with plenty of pita Patatas bravas: 5/5, with great flavor and crispy roasted potatoes Mussels: 4/5, generous portion size, and the sauce was very good but I wished the sauce was more white wine-based Tuna crudo: 5/5, not a ton of food but the flavor was absolutely delicious, very citrusy and fresh Labneh cheesecake: 4/5, served with a sauce that was a bit like cough syrup but otherwise absolutely delicious
Brunch !! We had a great time & enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant very much! We went on a day they werent very busy, so that was a plus, but our service could have been better. They forgot one of our benedicts & when it came out, it looked smaller than the other one. My main issue is that they promote that they have vegan options, but they really do not. The crispy cauliflower is about the only thing that is vegan on the menu. While I do occasionally eat meat, most everything had dairy in it & I have an allergy. I LOVE this place. My mom and I visited for the first time last Sunday for brunch and it was excellent! The ambiance is chic but casual. We got the Kefta burger, which was PHENOMENAL. We also got the crispy cauliflower - so unique but delicious!! Our server was very kind and helpful. We will definitely be back!
We were in town to visit our daughter and she was kind enough to make us a reservation at this restaurant for brunch today. Everything about it was wonderful. The menu offers plenty of delicious sounding appetizers and entrees. We all split the steak and eggs, the crispy cauliflower, the labneh, and the shakshouka. The crispy cauliflower sat on a pool of Tahini and was delicious. The pita bread to dip into the labneh was also some of the best I have ever had. The steak and eggs were great and also came with some delicious crispy potatoes. The shakshouka was also a very tasty and somewhat spicy dish. Service was quick and friendly.
Really good food and service! For reference, we had 7 plates between the four of us and we were pleasantly full. Every dish was amazingly good and I have no complaints with any of the dishes! The drinks were super yummy too. Highly recommend the hummus and tabuleh. The two pieces of flat bread went with every single dish! Definitely coming back here.
Gypsy Kitchen delivers a strong culinary experience with a few operational gaps that are hard to ignore. The food was genuinely impressive. We ordered several tapas, including the pork belly, beef, broccolini, and a charcuterie board. The standout of the evening was the beef. It was tender, deeply flavorful, and complemented by a sauce that was rich and beautifully balanced. That dish alone makes a compelling case to return. The broccolini was another highlight, served with a yogurt based sauce that added brightness and balance. The pork belly, while enjoyable, was slightly overcooked and could have benefited from a touch more seasoning. It was good, just not exceptional compared to the other dishes. We ended the meal with the peach tart, which was delicately constructed with an ultra thin puff pastry base that was crisp and flaky. Paired with vanilla gelato, it was light, refined, and a lovely finish. The bar program deserves recognition. I started with the El Circo mocktail, citrus forward and refreshing. We also had the Gig N Fashion Old Fashioned, which was well executed and balanced, and the Gypsy Dragon cocktail, a smaller 3 oz pour that was flavorful and thoughtfully crafted. Every drink we tried was solid. Service was efficient and attentive in terms of timing. Dishes arrived promptly, and the staff was proactive about clearing the table. The only service misstep was that our waiter seemed slightly eager to turn the table. After only three tapas dishes, he asked if we wanted dessert rather than asking whether we would like to continue ordering. Tapas dining is meant to unfold gradually, so it felt mildly rushed. We did end up ordering more, but the pacing was noticeable. The most significant concern, however, was restroom cleanliness. Throughout the evening, the bathrooms were consistently messy. Soap on the floor, overflowing trash, paper towels scattered, and at one point an unflushed toilet. I mentioned it to the manager, who stated someone had cleaned it shortly before. However, I was there from 7 PM until closing and visited multiple restrooms several times, and the condition did not improve. For a restaurant with such strong food, drinks, and ambiance, restroom maintenance should reflect the same level of care. Cleanliness is part of the overall dining experience. With that volume of business, restrooms should likely be checked every 15 to 30 minutes. Something as simple as higher capacity trash receptacles or better soap management would make a meaningful difference. Overall, Gypsy Kitchen excels in flavor, presentation, and cocktail execution. I would absolutely return for the food and drinks. I simply hope that the attention to detail extends to the restrooms, as that final impression matters just as much as the first.

Overall rating: 4.4/5 COVID: Currently most servers and other staff members were not wearing masks. I am guessing those that were wearing a mask were unvaccinated per CDC. There is indoor seating at what seemed like full capacity, as well as outdoor seating (rooftop patio and seats in front of the restaurant at street level). I came on a beautiful Saturday evening with reservations. It was packed inside and out and there was a 1.5 hour wait if we wanted to sit on the rooftop patio. It definitely looked like the place to be! We opted for indoor seating and were seated immediately. Our server was kind and attentive and checked on us often, but not so much that it was overwhelming. We were seated at a table with dim lighting so I was not able to capture all food items, but got a few! Everything was truly delicious and full of unique flavors and textures. The small plates: Grilled Kobia: 4.5/5 Duck prosciutto: 4.5/5 Labneh: 5/5 (the bread is amazing!) Charred rotini: 4/5 Foraged mushrooms: 4.5/5 The large plates: The lamb: 5/5 -cooked to perfection. This place is so aesthetically pleasing! I requested the upper patio when I made the reservation and i'm glad I did. When we got to the restaurant it took about 10 min for them to set up our table so it wasn't too long of a wait. It's kinda like tapas where it's a bunch of small plates. The humus was so good, like so good. We ordered another flatbread because they gave so much humus (side of flatbread was only $3). We got the crispy chicken briouat, crispy cauliflower, and the lamb ribs and crispy lamb belly. The whole meal had a sweet palate, and i'm guessing that's a mediterranean thing? The lamb was very tender and very fatty it was really good as well. No complains about the crispy chicken briouat or the cauliflower, both were very good too. Got two drinks- Lunar phase and golden hour. Both were very refreshing and tasty, not overpowering at all. 10/10 would recommend this place to others! read more

We wanted to try everything so we order a few different small plates and it was enough for 3 of us to share and get full off of. Customer service was great, the food was even better, my favorite was the crispy cauliflower the combination of sweet from the dried fruits and lemon tahina was very unique and blended perfectly together very enjoyable to the palate. The grilled flat iron steak was good and crispy edges but the curried lebanese couscous was too spice for my taste if you like spice this is your dish. The hummus and flatbread was really nice and fresh ran out of flatbread before hummus. Drinks: old thing back: very citrusy and hints of spicy not my favorite just ok. The blast: a great dessert drink but not overly sweet creamy from the yogurt a nice way to compliment dessert. Dessert: Burnt" Basque Cheesecake: really nice textured cheesecake and caramel in the side not overly sweet. My fav Chocolate Pavlova: the shell is a sugary meringue, and inside is a chocolate sponge cake and some cherries, too overly sweet. read more
The layout and decor of Gypsy Kitchen create a nice vibe along with an open kitchen area and an area where bread is being made. Seeing the care put into the finishing touches before each dish goes out was a nice perk for where we were seated. Our server was attentive and friendly, giving good suggestions about which dishes to order. This is basically a tapas style restaurant so come hungry and try a good variety. Everything we had was fantastic, but I must say one of my favorites was the Labneh and Flatbread. OMG it was like this elevated cream cheese dip only not, and the flatbread, yeah they offered a second one so we could use up that dip. Wow. Another star was the Crispy Cauliflower... lightly fried with amazing flavors. I will say, if you don't LOVE mushrooms... steer clear from the mushroom toast (that's me, my wife liked it). The baklava cast iron pie was good, but not quite what I want when I order baklava. Overall from the decor and vibe of the place, the fantastic friendly service from multiple staff, and the creative and delicious options, I definitely recommend Gypsy Kitchen DC. read more

I was really impressed by my experience at Gypsy Kitchen! The atmosphere of the restaurant was great-- lively and well decorated, though it did get a little dark in the restaurant after 6 (we had to use our flashlights for the menu). Our server was new but she was incredible and checked in on us regularly, and she had great recommendations. The food was wonderful as well. We got the flatbread with labneh and hummus, and while the dips were tasty I think the real star was the flatbread. It was steamy and light, covered with seasoning and olive oil. The beef kebab was my favorite dish of the night. It had perfectly cooked tender pieces of well-seasoned beef on top of a bed of curried Pearl cous cous. Such a unique mix of flavors that melded together perfectly! The chicken was also tender and well seasoned, I really loved the crispy potato pieces on top. The only dish that I didn't love was the salted potatoes. It consisted of some boiled fingerling potatoes with some sauces, but overall it was kind of flavorless. LOVED this place. The food was amazing and perfect for tapas style shared dining. Best dish of the night was the crispy chicken briouat. It had a flakey pastry outside and the spices in the filling were delicious. We also ordered the crispy cauliflower, grilled dates, and jamón serrano, all of which were very good. Another highlight was the hummus & flatbread - couldn't get a picture because it was gone so quickly. The kibbeh is the only thing we ordered that I didn't love. We were able to eat at an outdoor table on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant and were seated with no wait on a Saturday evening at ~5:30. My husband and I orders some small plates and 1 larger one all to share. The duck prosciutto is different but delicious (I'd come back just for that). My husband's favorite was the tuna crudo. We made a reservation for dinner and were given an option of sitting in the terrace are on a very cold evening which we declined the only other table for two was a in a corner by the kitchen which was cramped. The food here is fantastic. We ordered the hummus and flatbread, crispy cauliflower, beef kabob, and crispy chicken briouat. The hummus and flatbread is a MUST, the flatbread is to die for and the flavors are immaculate. I also highly recommend the beef kabob and crispy cauliflower. The beef kabob was incredibly tender and the couscous it's served with pairs perfectly. The cauliflower has so many incredible flavors most and is perfectly crispy. We also ordered the Can I Kick It? and Old Thing Back cocktails which were delicious and refreshing. Only a lost star for slow service and it taking an hour to realize we were served the wrong drinks -- though they did eventually bring us out the correct ones (unfortunately, at the end of our meal). read more

Depends on your daughter. If she likes Mediterranean food she should like it.
What's the price for one persons standard meal?
The average price per person, depending on drinks, is between $35-$45.
Is this a nut-free restaurant?
No, we are not. However, we do offer nut free menu options, and we can modify certain dish to be nut free.
Can you accommodate large parties with separate checks?
The short answer is Yes! We have an app, Sunday, where you can divide up your bill among your guest however you see fit. Nothing to download or signup for, just the ability to create as many separate checks as you need.

There are stairs leading to the second floor and then the rooftop. You'll see the upon entry into the restaurant.

Yes there is a covered patio I sat in on the second floor. I didn't reserve but the hostess asked if I wanted to sit outside.

Yes, plenty! Lots of veggie and meats, and the restaurant will try to accommodate as best as they can.
I see some saying they went with family- would you say this place is kid friendly?
Its really according to what the kids eat. The food is a little rich. I haven't seen that many children anytime I've been.
Is dining available since its pandemic?
Indoor dining is available with limited capacity.
