Not Michelin Star but Zaytinya has The Bib Gourmand distinction which means the restaurant is recognized by inspectors for offering fantastic food at a reasonable price point. I'm getting better at this! LOL Service was great from the moment we walked in. The ambiance at Zaytinya is exactly what you want from a José Andrés restaurant: light‑filled, contemporary, and buzzing with life. High ceilings, blue‑and‑white tones, and a chic Mediterranean aesthetic make it feel like a getaway in the middle of D.C. It's vibrant, social, and perfect for lingering over mezze crafted under Chef José Andrés' vision. I met another Yelp foodie here so that was a real treat! I love my Yelpies! Let's get into it with one sentence.... Come try this place out! It's taken me months to post this because this girl eats out way too much. For my fellow Yelpers if you haven't already tried, you're missing out! Thank me later! Cheers!

A trip to DC isn't complete without visiting one of chef José Andrés many delicious restaurants. This time around I had to return to Zaytinya, which I haven't visited in a few years. The space is always open and inviting, and service was fantastic from the hostess to our waitress. The food and fresh pita didn't take long to come out either. We got the hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, and lamb baharat to share. We went for lunch so all of this was perfect and fulfilling for just that. Every dish tasted fresh and the lamb was cooked perfectly and seasoned nicely. Overall, another amazing visit to Zaytinya. Long live José Andrés.

My husband and I had a fantastic time trying Zaytinya! We love inKind and found out they were a partner with them. I grew up in Arlington so loved Jose Andres restaurants and was excited to try this one. First, lots of love to the endless bread they serve you. It's warm, fresh, and perfect. We mentioned we just got married in our reservation and while the seating wasn't the most romantic, our server was extremely charismatic and friendly. We ordered the htipiti, piyaz, grilled lamb chops, and octopus Santorini. These were so incredible. I almost bought the cookbook they were selling I loved these dishes so much. My favorite was the htipiti. It was a refreshing dip for a hot summer day. We ordered cocktails that I'm blanking on right now, but they were expertly crafted. I really loved all our dishes. It's hard to find spots that make octopus well and this spot did it WELL. They surprised us with the galatopita and sorbet since we mentioned we were celebrating just getting married. I had a lovely time here, I'd highly recommend this spot.

Visiting after a few years...and not disappointed. Jose Andres restaurants are never a miss. Service is amazing, the decor is beautiful and matches the cuisine, try all of the dips, the seared halloumi with sour cherries, spanakopita with home made phyllo, can't go wrong with fries topped with garlic yogurt, and while i would typically order the octopus.. i recommend the lamb shoulder. Order the Lamb Kleftiko - tender smoked lamb shoulder with salad wrap and spreads. Lamb is particular and this was just so delectable - not gamy, not too smoky, and paired nicely with a recommended beverage. The creative menu options will not disappoint. The culinary genius, the well informed staff and immediate service are all wins. Whether you are a local, or tourist - this is a must to stop by!

I've been visiting Zaytinya for about 20 years and the food has never disappointed. The only bad thing about it is it's hard to get a reservation, but if you drop in during happy hour and snag a seat at the bar, you're set. The happy hour menu (M-F, 4-6pm) includes drinks, pides, and other shareables. During this particular visit, I shared hummus, halloumi pide, as well as the branzino and the tzatziki (these last two are on the regular food menu). For a quick bite and a drink, this is perfect! The vibe is always super super lively and busy, so be sure to make friends with your bartender if you sit at the bar!

Zaytinya must be resting on their laurels since I really did not feel the Jose Andres aura during my visit. Came during lunch and sat at the bar. While I was handed a drink and food menu pretty promptly, it took forever to flag someone else down to place my order. Fortunately, I was given some olive oil and pita to nibble on as I waited. Unfortunately, the pita was stiff and dry - reminiscent of chewy cardboard. I decided to go with a few things off their brunch menu: Chicken Shakshouka, Za'atar Pide, and a Hommus because how can you not try it whenever you're at a Mediterranean restaurant. Pretty much all of these were middling. Shakshouka was super watery with two sad pieces of chicken, and the cheese on the Pide overwhelmed the za'atar seasoning and undersalted egg. I was hoping the Hommus could compensate for the underwhelming pita, but it was a similar match in terms of flavor and lackluster gritty texture. Only the chili crisp and peas in the center gave it any sort of personality. The dishware was pretty to look at, which I had plenty of time to admire while the waitstaff ambled around looking like they'd rather not be there. At least prices were not horrific and I left full, but would not recommend to anyone who actually enjoys eating Mediterranean food.

Salmon, Scallops, and Shrimp

This restaurant from Jose Andres is Mediterranean elevated... by an amazing chef (must be his name). It's tapas style (typical of this guy) so it means you get to try a bunch of things, which is my favorite. Who wants to eat the same thing every meal, or even in the same meal? I met a friend here for lunch and we tried a variety of dishes. The atmosphere was perfect on a sunny day to really get the Greek Vibes going. Everything was delicious with one exception... the salmon which was a little dry (hence the loss of a star). But the scallops, shrimp, fattoush salad, crispy eggplant, lemon soup, and bread made up for it. Pro Tip - Eat the bread first as it gets too chewy at the end of the meal. It's like a magic trick. The cocktails were good too. I had a few and mixed it up with those as well. They need a flight of each of their specialty cocktails. I'd totally get that! Service was also amazing with checking on things and making sure we had enough food and drinks. Reservations are definitely recommended but you could get lucky and snag some bar seats or a table. It's a tad pricey, but you're worth it, right?

Just shy of 5 stars. Like a game of horseshoes. Close, but ... We dined outside near the sidewalk. Great for people watching and the weather was perfect. The table opted not to do the chef's tasting menu. Amongst the dishes we ordered were hommus, tzatziki, crunchy vegetables, artisanal cheese pikilia, tabbouleh, karpuzi me feta, adana kebab and shish taouk. A few had lemonathas. Service was good. The waitstaff worked well as a team. Lots of complimentary bread. My favorites were the karpuzi me feta and tzatziki. Recommend

This place is in a great corner location, the food was delicious, and the staff were friendly overall. We had a reservation to make sure we got a table, and the restaurant was completely full when we arrived. The only downside was that after being seated outside, we felt a little forgotten for the first 30 minutes or so. No one came by with water or to check in, and it seemed like the staff may not have realized a new table had been seated until we flagged down the outside host. There were also swarm of flies hovering around the outdoor tables, which another table pointed out and then we started noticing too. Aside from that, the experience was good overall. The inside dining area definitely had a dressier vibe compared to the patio seating, and once we were helped, the food made up for the slow start.

Hummus, smoked beet salata and baba ghannouge.

I made reservations for Sunday Brunch and was looking forward to experiencing another Jose Andres restaurant. We were seated immediately by the matra-dee before our reservation time slot. The decor is open and airy and there's a large patio if you prefer to dine alfresco. We wanted a variety of items and began with Hummus, smoked beet salata and baba ghanoush. Followed by Crispy brussels afelia, Chicken shakshouka, Soujouk pide and shish taouk. For dessert we enjoyed Greek yogurt with apricots and olive oil cake with champagne. The presentation of all the entree's were plated professionally, tasted outstanding, and service from our waiter was on point. I highly recommend this restaurant by Jose Andres.

Whoa. Horrible outside host for outdoor seating and even worse experience with the indoor host for indoor seating -- this was not an okay experience at any level. Zero professionalism, no hospitality, and probably way too over their head with how popular this restaurant is for Middle Eastern cuisine. Completely not cool as to how they treat those who try to patronize their business. Note to management: we understand your establishment has great reviews but please don't take that for granted. Please train your staff to treat every single guest regardless of party size with respect, professionalism, and hospitality. Not mad about not being able to dine here because y'all were "fully booked" but more disappointed with how your outdoor and indoor hosts handled the messaging. P.S. There were plenty of tables left unoccupied for "7:30pm reservations" but it was already 8:00pm -- so I take it the grace period for reservations is 30+ minutes?!

Located across from the Portrait Gallery with easy access to the metro. This is a great place to have shareable items that is delicious and flavorful. Had dinner here with friends and ordered several shareable plates, and two desserts. I also ordered the Turkish coffee though a bit disappointed that it was cold by the time it got to my table. Service is great, friendly staff. The place has a lot of indoor standard seating and outdoor seating as well.

Shared two orders from their pre-theater menu as a group of three and felt it was just enough food for all of us. As a group, we tried: the hummus, baba ghannouge, gardies me anitho, beef soutzoukakia, Adana kabob, imam bayildi, & greek yogurt and apricots and olive oil cake for dessert. Most of the dishes were nothing special but I thought the gardies me anitho stood out above the rest with an exceptional buttery lemon sauce, and the olive oil cake -- though dry-- also stood out. Would go back solely for the gardies me anitho though

Ask the Community - Zaytinya

What kind of dress?

Nice, clean, casual dress is fine. No ball caps or ripped tee shirts.

Is this place kosher?

I am not sure, and I don't think so.

Is there any heating outdoors?

Yes, there is

Can you do the tasting menu here for just one person? (I know I've seen that some places ask for a minimum of two people, but I would be solo.)

They don't offer a tasting menu from we what I remember. Best time to go is during restaurant week when they offer $40 or 45 for a variety of dishes. Great deal in my opinion and you will be full for sure.

Is the outdoor dining area covered or open?

The majority of the outdoor dining area is covered for protection from the elements. But some areas are not. They may get some shade but if it rains, those areas will get wet.

Are there vegan menu options?

I'm almost certain a number of the small plates are vegan or could be made vegan if you ask for no yogurt on top (i.e. hummus, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, pilaf)

Are reservations mandatory?

No, you can grab seats at the bar or go on the waitlist. But reservations certainly help.

Heaters on the patio?

Yes ! And quite efficient too...Their patio set up is pretty nice with market lights :)

Is the food halal?

No it's not.

What time is happy hour?

4-6 pm Monday's -Friday's

We do not have a reservation. Is there a bar and do they serve the same menu as they do at a table?

Yes, the restaurant has a bar that is first come, first serve and the regular menu is available.

Saturday night dinner dress code? I know it says casual, but sometimes it says that and people…

Casual wear is just fine. A lot of people choose to go dressed nicely because it's a nice place and people seem to be celebrating special occasions. But I went on a Saturday night wearing khaki shorts and a t-shirt. They don't care as long as you…

Are any of the meat options halal?

No, the lamb "might" be halal as most of the lamb at Jose Andres restaurants are from new Zealand, but it isn't listed on the menu as halal and the waiters have never been able to confirm it either.

Do they have glúten-free options?

Hi, Tomás - they have GF options, but it's not much - just ask your server and they will point out/circle which items can be made gluten-free.

A bit expensive but well worth it. As for the rest, I am not familiar with Lebanese food so I don't know what it should taste like but everything was absolutly delicious. The grilled calamari was really good but I prefer the regular fried. The Kibbeh Nayeh was amazing with a garlic whip that was out of this world. He was hilarious but not invasive and very helpful with recommendations on dishes and portion sizes. Was excited to try the dips but was really underwhelmed by the muhammara - pepper only no nutty taste. The labneh was fine. The bread was also just mediocre. The meats were a highlight - we liked everything on the grilled platter and the lamb shank was cooked well and flavorful. We also tried a special dish of sea bass over risotto - wouldn't order again.

It was literally in the alley, and was giving Covid setup. Definitely would not recommend the outdoor area to anyone. There was no music, the decor was fine but again, looked very subpar and you could tell everyone else that arrived and sat outside after us had the same thoughts. Now to the food. I will say all of it was good, but for the price? I could find another Middle Eastern adjacent restaurant in DC for less money. It was a little outrageous in my opinion. We did choose the tawle experience. The dips with good, and came with endless flatbread. But it was interesting how some of the portions were huge and then others felt like they were skimping. We got huge portions of pickled vegetables and a giant salad, but then when it came to the shrimp kabobs we ordered, we got 5 pieces of shrimp. I will say the steak portion we chose we large, but then again for dessert, it was just a half mason jar size of a chocolate mousse to split...It was just interesting. Several of the staff knew it was our anniversary and they could've given maybe an additional dessert or a glass of champagne but nothing. Again for a restaurant of this caliber, you would just expect more. I say all of this to say, we did have a gift card that covered most of our $300+ meal. But if I were going without that, I would've been even more disappointed. I know people have raved about this place for years, but the original chefs have changed, and I'm understanding more why they've lost their Michelin star. It was good/fine but was far from exceptional.

What an incredible spontaneous hangout and surprise by my friend that lead to this memorable meal! Thank you, again Not only was the beet borani beautiful, the sweetness of the beet mixed with the garlic and rosemary paired very well with the warm and fluffy bread. The fire kissed asparagus are the best asparagus I've ever had in my life. The char was perfect and allowed the asparagus to be the best version of itself. The bed of both cream and herb sauce it laid on top of gave it other dimensions of flavored when paired. It was good on its own or eaten with the other protein dishes we ordered. The chicken shish taouk was juicy, well seasoned and very good with the toum! The seared scallops were the biggest, sweetest and my favorite dish of the night (though I 100% would say everything we got was so so good). The natural sweetness of the scallops paired with the various sauces were delightful. The serpent drink had a sour but creamy foam texture that was fun to sip on throughout the meal. Shout out to Nari, our server sharing her love of garlic and giving us a sample of the carrot havuc which did not taste like carrots at all but more of this light almost sweet potato-like dip with a fun crunch from the crispy onions & for compting our turkish coffee gelato, which was strong and creamy and best way to end the meal.

The chicken arrived with a beautiful golden exterior that looked promising, yet the meat inside was disappointingly dry. The kufta suffered a similar fate, having been overcooked to the point of being dry and hard. Overall, the meats lacked the tenderness and flavor I was hoping for. The rice, however, was prepared well, and I particularly enjoyed the slivered almonds sprinkled on top. I selected the side salad, which featured fresh, crisp vegetables. We met that Saturday morning at New Deal Cafe for coffee. Date was going well, and we went to lunch in this center here. Wow, this was amongst the best Mediterranean I've had. I got a platter with rice, meat, & more. I don't remember the exact specifics, but I remember I thought it was excellent. Staff was nice too. It's a pretty small place, but we were comfortable in this as Saturday lunch business wasn't too busy. Conclusion with this woman & a better new era: As for this woman & our 2nd date, we met for lunch near where I live on a rainy Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend (See my 5-star review of Notos in Maryland City). She was from Indonesia, here working for a family, and said the host family was moving to California next week. I said how crappy that was as you just got to Maryland in October. So, there was no future with this woman. Incidentally, a little more than 2 months later was my first date with my girlfriend of now about 2.7 years, which has been great.

I spent every summer in this town, growing up, and I never discovered this restaurant until a precious friend brought me here a few years ago. It's a dated, though efficient, and charming, cafe with fresh dishes you might love. Firstly, if you plan on having lunch here on a Monday, make sure you are able to finish by 2:45 since they close by 3pm. All other days, they are open past 8pm. We started with the sweet potato soup despite the fact that the reviews for the lentil soup here are the highest. Yes! If it's featured: get it! The turmeric and coconut milk make this soup delightful. The herbs made it so fresh and there was just the right amount of sweetness and gentle heat. Parsley really adds to this recipe and I'm not usually a fan of this herb. The pitas are soft, thin and light. Love them. We needed to order more. I've never had such paper-thin pitas. Yum! I love love love the hummus, here. It is nothing short of divine. The flavors are fabulous and deeply complex. You can really taste the tahini. The olive oil is mild and delicious. I exclaimed, "the hummus was the best ever." And then 5 minutes later, I read a review by Yelper James H. where he says it's the best ever and, "... this hummus at Cedars of Lebanon might have ruined all other hummus for me forever." While I've had similar swooning feelings over the hummus at Lebanese Taverna in Tyson's Corner, this hummus is at least a top contender if not the metro DC area's hummus winner. The cucumber mint yogurt salad is nice, cold and refreshing. You can really taste the mint. I would order this yogurt salad with every meal. The falafel pizza is unusual and fresh. Straight away-- you can taste the tahini, parsley and couscous. The dough is grainy and natural. And there are radishes on this falafel pizza: not overpowering. For the $9 or so pricepoint, this dish is a true labor of love. To prep all of these vegetables, even with food processors, must take time. How novel of a dish! Put the yogurt salad on this pizza. You will thank me. And I only did it because I was watching someone else slather it on. There were at least 12 desserts on the menu. Meow. If we weren't so full of pita, hummus, tahini and fresh veggies, we certainly would love to taste a few of these. As well as the Turkish coffee, with an authentic ceramic and metal carafé presentation.

I've never been one for dips but wow, the hummus was delicious as well. I believe it must be their olive oil that gives it that something extra. The Chicken Freekah Maqlouba was so flavorful, the spices were unique but not overpowering. I enjoyed the sauce and thin potato slice additions in the Kafta Bel Tahini. Nextdoor is a Peruvian restaurant, El Secreto de Rosita, and patrons can order from either restaurant when dining. The Lomo Saltado, rib eye stir fry was great. The meat was well prepared and sauce was delicious, definitely more than just a soy sauce. The presentation of all the dishes was beautiful, but take note that the portion sizes are on the smaller side. The staff were kind and offered helpful recommendations! The only hiccup during our visit was one of the dishes we ordered was no longer available after we had spent quite awhile waiting for it, then the dish we ordered to replace it was delayed so long that they comped it for us, which was appreciated. If you're the area this spot is worth a visit.
