We started with the trio of dips with their signature bread on the restaurant week menu and I loved all 3 as well as the seasoned bread it was served with. Hard to control myself and not overeat! The salmon, not on either menu but suggested since they were out of the branzino, melted in my mouth. Incredible fresh rack of lamb!!! Cooked perfectly. Atmosphere very relaxing. Couldn't believe it wasn't more crowded even though it was a weeknight. We came here because a nearby restaurant, opened until 10pm, closed their kitchen at 9pm and we had showed up at 9:05pm. I took my wife here for Mother's Day brunch and it was an awesome experience. Our first time here, I learned about it by searching luxury brunches in the area. I believe the hotel offers valet parking otherwise street and garage parking are available. However, I learned that Sunday garage parking is limited and I was fortunate after driving around the block multiple times to find free street parking. I dropped my wife off to make our reservation before I drove around endlessly. My wife was already seated at a table near a window sipping mimosas and enjoying a charcuterie board by the time I arrived. lol Amazing food. The charcuterie board was a meal in itself for both of us with leftovers that we took home....cheeses, meats, fruits, breads, honey, etc. I ordered the almond french toast that was simply delicious. There were two servers tag teaming our table to where we always had fresh coffee and all our needs met. We didn't feel rushed and instead felt relaxed to enjoy our meal. Surprisingly, the restaurant was not at capacity and was quiet. Very enjoyable. I like a good brunch buffet which this restaurant does not have but I was ok with that. We came to the elegant Alhambra for Winter RW. The trio of starters included eggplant puree, labneh, and hummus. I forget which but either the eggplant or the hummus had a very nice surprise component. It came with somewhat oily pita slices which they kindly refilled for us. He got beet salad and I enjoyed the larger tuna tartar for my appetizer. The tartar was very good, but almost better was the mosaic plate it was served on. My partner had the chicken, which was kind of one-note as it didn't have notable starch or vegetables accompanying it. My rockfish (?) tagine was the highlight of the meal for me - with the warm and citric components of the vegetables playing well with the fish. I finished mine while my partner ended up with leftovers. The dessert was better for him (although they didn't have the advertised olive oil cake) - a cheesecake with passion fruit and pomegranates. My gianduja tartlet was dry and hard to pierce with a spoon, although the flavor combination with the hazelnut worked. A very expensive glass of Chablis accompanied the meal. read more

I'm a bit torn because there were some standouts, and nothing was bad... if Yelp had the nuance of half stars this would be 3.5. The drinks are wildly expensive, I was taken aback. If I was at a rooftop bar I'd maybe be able to begin to understand the exorbitance. ~30 bucks for basically all cocktails is wild, 29 dollars for a single pour of VSOP Hennessy is highway robbery. The cocktails were good, the backroom poker (old fashioned inspired) was phenomenal... but, the cost made my eyes water. The price point is pretty abnormal for fine dining at a street level restaurant in the area. Their take on a Caesar salad was mid. Scallops were cooked to perfection but a bit on the sweet side. Patatas bravas had great texture, a delightful sauce, but was under salted. Aleppo pepper smoked chicken was technically very well cooked, but, amazingly, lacked strong flavor. Hummus with wild mushrooms were delightful. The bread service was excellent as well. The date compound butter was perfection. Ambiance wise... mid century modern meets the 80s? Felt dated and odd. The red leather chrome chairs were odd as they are slanted like an Adirondack chair making you want to lean all the way back. Service was exceptional, Ramiro took great care of us. read more

Went to Alhambra for a friend's birthday brunch. The restaurant is located inside of the St. Regis hotel. The hotel and restaurant are absolutely stunning. The overall experience was enjoyable. Service was excellent, and the food was top notch. I'm not a huge breakfast person so my options were limited from the brunch menu. I went with the cheeseburger which had to have been one of the best burgers I've had in a while. Would love to go back to try their dinner menu. read more

This was a great experience! I came here for my husband's birthday and the yellowfin tuna and octopus were perfectly cooked and well seasoned. The trio of hummus and regular hummus were quite good and the pita freshly baked and well seasoned! The only constructive criticism I have is that it is more expensive than I would have liked (particularly the cocktails) and the tiramisu was a bit stale. We came here for what was advertised as the St. Regis New Year's Day Bloody Mary Brunch. Our experience did not resemble what we were promised, and combined with some potential cleanliness issues, means I will not be returning. My wife and I have a tradition now of indulging in a St. Regis Signature Blood Mary each New Year's Day. If unaware, each St. Regis hotel develops its own Blood Mary recipe. We were gifted a copy of the St. Regis Bloody Mary cocktail book at a St. Regis event we attended some years ago, and so each New Year's Day we either seek out one in person, or make one from the book at home. This year, finding ourselves in DC, we decided to try the St. Regis Capitol Mary in person as part of their New Year's Brunch. As I mentioned above, though, the brunch was not as promised. The event advertised that "guests will be welcomed with homemade recovery shooters before enjoying a mouthwatering a la carte brunch ... highlights such as Lobster Eggs Benedict with Sturgeon Caviar, Beef Shortrib ... and Bloody Mary's from our famed New Year's Bloody Mary cart." None of the aforementioned items were actually offered during our brunch. This left me wondering if something changed, or if I did not book something correctly? It is not a large restaurant, so I cannot imagine there was another secret area for New Year's Brunch. The biggest issue occurred at a nearby table. Shortly after being seated, a guest at a nearby table picked up a condiment from the tabletop condiment plate, and in doing so disturbed a small cockroach which had apparently been resting on the plate. This incident occurred directly in my view and I am offering a firsthand account, though I admit I was not directly affected. While I understand pests happen and are part of life in old buildings in a big, storied city, what concerns me greatly is the insufficient staff response to the incident is what will prevent my return to Alhambra and the St. Regis Washington, D.C. Once alerted, the guests were quickly attended to by a manager and a waiter quickly disposed of the pest, albeit with a napkin from the table (I do hope this will not be reused). After the guests departed the restaurant without eating, the staff simply returned the condiments that previously held the cockroach to the condiment plate and reset the table with the utensils the prior guests -- and pest -- had been handling. I alerted our waiter to the incident, noting specifically that the prior guests handled the utensils and that a pest had been on the table, and suggesting that the table should perhaps be cleaned. She graciously accepted this suggestion, but in the 10 minutes that followed prior to our departure, the table was not attended to, remaining uncleaned. This is not okay!!! Despite this, I resolve to 2 stars because the food was really tasty. The Capitol Mary -- served with a giant shrimp garnish -- was spicy deliciousness and paired well with my amazing lamb kofta scramble. Still, there's no chance I can return -- how would I know there had not just been a cockroach on the table? read more

The night we had was so special. Our server was Remiro, he was so welcoming. His menu knowledge was impressive and as a server when I go out to eat I always look for that. The dishes we enjoyed were outstanding, especially the watermelon salad, who would have know olive oil and water melon would go great together. With a few exceptions, I don't often dine at restaurants inside hotels. Upon receiving an invitation to visit Alhambra inside the St. Regis Hotel, my wife and I visited on a Saturday date night. (Yes, our meal was comped, but opinions are my own.) Here's our experience: 1) Food: With the former business partner of Ambar as the executive chef, the menu has Balkan influences. To feed two, we ordered the hummus with wild mushrooms, Mom's Borek, 100 Layer Patatas Bravas, tahini cauliflower, and grilled octopus. Literally, every dish was well balanced and tasty, but the winner was the Mom's Borek. It's fluffy and the combination of flavors really pop. For dessert, we had the baklava cheesecake and the coconut creme brulee. Both were tasty, but the latter took home the cake. 2) Drinks: Their menu includes wine, beer, and cocktails. I enjoyed their sauvignon blanc (it's more acid forward) and my cocktail. (For the life of me, I can't remember what it's called, but it was sour and refreshing.) 3) Price: They are comparable to D.C. prices so expect to pay around $75-$100 a person for a full meal with appetizers, drinks and dessert. 4) Service: It was on point! Our server was attentive, funny, and guided us through the menu. 5) Space: It's in the St. Regis and the dining room has booth seating and regular tables. It's a little outdated and sterile, but it works. 6) Neighborhood: It's near the White House, surrounded by many restaurants and things to see and do. Dining at Alhambra was such an experience! The dinner menu is a fusion of Mediterranean food and tapas style plates--everything was delicious. The only thing we wouldn't recommend is the 100 layered patatas bravas (see image), very small portion and not your traditional tapas. The waitress was very knowledgeable in terms of food allergies and went above and beyond to make sure there wasn't any cross contamination with gluten. There are plenty of GF options! They even provided me with carrots and cucumbers, and GF toast charge free. The drinks are on the pricier side, but what you would expect given the type of restaurant (between $20-25 per drink). We were the only party at the restaurant, which made it very intimate and perfect to celebrate my sister's birthday! Overall, great experience and we will be returning! read more

I've tried so many Mediterranean spots over the past decade and Alhambra immediately jumped to the top of the list on my first visit. The complimentary pita bread was honestly enough to keep me coming back, it was THAT good. I usually get the hummus and aleppo chicken with an additional side although the branzino, patatas bravas, and giant prawns are pretty good too. I haven't tried the brunch menu yet but I'm sure it's amazing. I've had a handful of people I recommended here tell me they loved it. The ambiance is also nice, esp if you're seated in the golden booths. I'd give the service 5 stars. Overall, you can't go wrong with Alhambra! read more

We loved our dining experience so much that we booked Alhambra again yesterday night for our intimate wedding dinner with my in-laws. Carmen the receptionist was helpful in returning my call promptly inquiring about moving up my reservation. Our server Zaatar (I think that was how it was spelled) was very responsive to our questions about the menu and attentive to our needs. We were offered a complimentary dessert to celebrate and cap off a delicious meal. I was invited to a friend's birthday dinner she was having at this restaurant. It's nestled right on Black Lives Matter Plaza in the St. Regis Hotel. Entering the establishment, I noticed how nice the place is. Definitely a formal establishment with a scenery similar to a movie. The staff was friendly, especially the hostess, who helped me set up a cake pop display for my friend. Once everyone got settled, we ordered our food. I ordered the Allepo Smoked Chicken. It's a peri-peri style of chicken. It comes with dried chili peppers. They're very spicy and gives the meal a kick. The peri-peri sauce was delicious too. I do have a gripe about this place. Apparently early on in the evening, one of the members of our party asked the waiter to do separate checks or something along those lines. I think he added everyone to the same check. When asked could he separate it, he seemed a little annoyed, even though this was mentioned to him earlier. Then when we were leaving, he said there was a check missing. So we went back tonsee what he was talking about, only to find out it wasn't our party. Also, all of the garages near the restaurant close early. Across the street in an alley (next to the CVS) is a parking garage that stays open past 11 p.m. So stop by and check out the place for yourself. read more

I had breakfast at Alhambra a few weeks ago and thought the overall experience was fine but not special. Alhambra is the restaurant in the St. Regis, and it is beautiful - those ceilings! The service was also topnotch - exactly what you'd expect from a restaurant inside a St. Regis. Unfortunately, their breakfast menu is just...boring. They had a section on the menu online - Alhambra Signature - with four interesting Turkish-ish options. As soon as I saw those options, I got excited and made a reservation, knowing I'd pick from one of those four (simit, borek, lamb kofta scramble, feta shakshuka). Unfortunately, that section was not on the breakfast menu when I sat down. I ended up with an omelet that not something I would normally order (I have high standards for omelets, and I'm let down a lot, so tend to avoid them). the omelet was fine, better than average but not exceptional. The potatoes were proper crispy, which I did appreciate. Overall, I'd just say that their breakfast menu is full of kind of boring classics, none of which I was that excited about, so it was a bummer to me that their online menu is not up to date (I just checked and the fun section is still on the breakfast menu online, but the omelet is not). I have mixed feelings about Alhambra. Let's start with the good. The food was done right. We had cauliflower and mom's borek for appetiser and both were fantastic. I'd highly recommend not skipping the sweet and savoury pastry that is this borek. The bread served pre-dinner was out of this world--buttered and seasoned and served with seasoned butter, and two other delicious mini spreads/toppings. It's difficult to not eat, if that occurred to you. The short rib looked beautiful and was perfectly prepared, but super fatty. I chalk it up to an unlucky cut. It probably was not worth $75, but we were still utterly full by the end. The decor and overall vibe were nice. Our booth was sexy with close-able curtains. Music was light and pleasant as background noise. However, it's location nearby white house off blm plaza means it's central for political events and protests, which can affect traffic and parking options (and did for us). The drinks are mad expensive. Reds start at $20...which still is steep, even for fancy pants dc restaurants. Our server was Sofiane and he was lovely and well mannered. He spoke in a way that made me trust his judgment. And he certainly steered us well, food wise. But we still walked away feeling like the service lacked follow-through. When we pointed out that my date's vodka soda was flat, and asked for fresh soda only, rather than a new drink (which would have been proper), he left to get it. Then a manager came to inquire about the same issue. The manager also left to allegedly get this soda. Neither came back. Neither followed up. Have I mentioned that the drinks were not cheap? Finally, and I realize some people may not care but people in heels might: the bathroom is on another floor in another section of the building. This is a hotel restaurant and so you're literally taking the elevator to get there. It's not far, but it's a minus from a convenience standpoint. Granted, you walk through a gorgeous Regis lobby so the scenery is still alright. Overall, i think Alhambra is date-worthy for the food, but is a bit overpriced and somewhat underwhelming in service. read more

I wouldn't recommend this place for dinner, lunch, or any meal. We went for restaurant week and grabbed a spot here as most other places were booked up. You had a choice between two things for the appetizer and two things for an entrée (swordfish or lamb). I will say I thoroughly enjoyed my swordfish, but the service was not good: I think our waitress forgot about us, and she didn't seem to know much about the restaurant or menu or offer anything helpful. The entire staff seemed ambivalent to the guests, more "we are already charging a service fee, so who cares vibes." The vibes were very much romantic hotel meets cafeteria style lighting..like trying to be fancy because it's inside a nice hotel, but failing. Also, water for the table ended up being more than a beer, which is just weird. Every bottle of water for the table was $14 bucks, which I would expect for sparkling, but not flat water. All of my friends felt the same way; we even were chatting on a group chat discussing this place. We'd give it a 3 out of 5 based on the ambiance, & poor service. The food is good, but there are a ton of restaurants in DC that have food just as good or much better, with much better service and a much better ambiance. The chef should work somewhere else, in my opinion. The total per person was around 80 including the tip (without drinks), so not bad but a lot for a mediocre-quality place. read more

My friends and I went to Alhambra last night for Restaurant Week and were really pleased with the offerings. First, our server Yasir was phenomenal. Very attentive and friendly. He made great wine suggestions for our bottle (and let us taste before making our decision), brought extra bread and spreads for us when he saw how much we liked it , and even accommodated a request for gluten free bread as well. As for the food, we enjoyed everything. Since there was three of us we were able to order every item. The tahini cauliflower was nice and had a bit of a lemony pop to it. The potato's bravas were just ok in my opinion but my friends liked it. For the main courses the surprise victor was the mushroom shish. They were full of flavor and the sauce was delish!! The Branzino was also really nice and the salad that it came with had a nice kick to it. One of my friends is not a fan of fish but gobbled the Branzino up. The smoked chicken was good too, but I didn't love it as much as the other two. The baklava cheesecake was soooo good. We thankfully ordered two! And though none of us are fans of merengue we all generally enjoyed the pavlova (which has a similar profile to merengue but softer). I think it was the strawberry basil sauce that did the trick for us. The dining room and hotel itself is really pretty and we had this lovely curved booth that felt really luxurious. I would definitely recommend the restaurant. The only thing I would warn folks about is the bottle water. It's pretty expensive ($14) so be mindful of that before you order it. My friend and I are staying at the St. Regis just for fun (staycation for her, vacation for me). We were starving when we arrived, so we decided to check out the restaurant for a quick lunch. The restaurant itself is beautiful. We thought about requesting our food to go, but decided to stay and eat there as the room was gorgeous. I ordered the burger and my friend ordered the goat cheese and beet salad. Before our food came out they brought us a warm bread basket with butter. This bread was fantastic. It was so warm! As if it was fresh baked. There were three different breads- herb with cheese, white, and wheat. Our food came out immediately after. My burger was HUGE. It had a great char-broiled taste, and was cooked perfectly (medium-rare). It was honestly one of the best burgers I've had in a long time. The fries it came with were also delicious. I didn't try my friend's salad, but she said it was very good. It looked great! Our two meals came out to $46.20- not bad for all that food! Overall I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch. Honestly, pretty good food. But what I didn't like is that my wife and I spent $30 mf dollars on WATER. Like nobody cares about drinking voss just give us some regular filtered water. ‍ We didn't realize that we were charged $15 everytime we asked for some water until the check came. I'd also rate higher but the food unfortunately gave me diarrhea. Tbh not worth the money. I'd rather just get Panera. Ambiance was also kinda bad since they had a violin player with an amp, just too loud imo. All in all though, not a bad restaurant and the staff and service was very nice. This is a mostly mixed review of Alhambra. We had come across a TravelZoo deal that provided two drinks, one starter, two entrees and a shared dessert, so we decided to give this a try. We invited friends to join us so we made the reservation initially on OpenTable. Initially we had only requested a table for four. When we realized that we needed to provide the voucher code when making the reservation, we called the restaurant and let them know that there would be a 5th person joining us. Upon arriving at the restaurant at the scheduled time, the hostess noted that the reservation was only for four people and that they only had one table that could accommodate five. The restaurant at that point (and the entire time we were there) was less than 1/2 full, so we pressed her. She then quizzed us about when we changed the reservation, who we had spoken to and exactly what we had said. Finally she said that she would see what she could do for us. A few minutes later, she came back to lead us to a very nice table (in the still less than half-full restaurant) that was normally set for four, but had a fifth chair at one end. It was perfectly fine and worked out well. The hostess provided us with our menus and we were comfortably seated. Let me pause this review and state that the restaurant (and it's host hotel - the St. Regis) are a lovely property. It feels elegant and would be great for a special occasion or date night. Anyway, after being seated we had water served after a few minutes, but our waiter didn't show up for about 10 minutes. He shared that he was new, and in training, and given that, he did a great job. There was a bit of confusion about using the TravelZoo voucher as he had not encountered one previously, but he said the manager would be by. When he came by we cleared up that the others were not to be included in the voucher and that we'd pay ala carte for them. We also learned that there were limits on the prices for each item covered on the voucher, we could pay the difference between them so that we weren't limited to just the few items that were at (or under) the price caps. That was helpful to know. Fresh bread arrived shortly after having the manager visit and it started the meal off nicely. On to the food: The drinks arrived shortly after ordering and they were well crafted and delicious. Most of us had either the Old Fashion's or the Whiskey and orange. For starters we tried the Octopus and Moules & Frites. Both were well-prepared and their presentations nicely appropriated. They were a tasty way to start the meal. For entrees our party had the Duck Breast, the Scallops, the Lobster Ravioli and the Monkfish. All were tasty, but nothing really knocked our socks off. The Lobster Ravioli came with a bit too much of the cream sauce, and while plenty for our party, the Scallops only featured 3 medium sized shellfish. The one add-on item we tried was the homemade Gnocchi. Sadly, this was the least liked item we had in the meal in that the sauce was waay too pronounced with too much truffle oil and garlic. The desserts we tried were the Chocolate Mint Tower and Sorbet. While again tasty not a knock-your-socks off way to end a meal. The Sorbet was so hard it took a knife to cut it to be able to taste. I hope this review doesn't sound too negative; we dine out frequently and at the normal prices (without the TravelZoo voucher) we may have grumbled a bit more. But all in all, the setting made it a very nice evening and the food, didn't disappoint, but certainly didn't wow. What a fantastic meal, fantastic service, fantastic decor, fantastic ambiance, fantastic everything!!! In full disclosure, I got a travelzoo deal for a prepaid dinner that was heavily discounted. For the price, it was outstanding. If it was regular price, it would still be very, very good. Our meal for two for $85 on travelzoo came with one appetizer (we got the octopus to share), two entrees (my friend got lobster ravioli which came with chunks of lobster both inside the ravioli and on top and I got a giant piece of king salmon which was perfectly cooked and flavored), we finished with a shared desert of apple crisp with brandy ice cream (outstanding). Upscale dining within the iconic St. Regis Hotel. Stopped by for a quick breakfast while staying at the hotel. If you are getting breakfast over the weekend, make sure you have a reservation. We had one when we came in a 10:30, but others were being told it was about a half hour wait. Wouldn't hurt to make one during the weekdays as well. Restaurant itself if exquisitely decorated in the same style as the rest of the hotel with the addition of an extensive selection of wine on the wall. Staff was friendly and very attentive from the beginning. Helpful with questions and knowledgeable about things to do around the city. For food, I had the eggs Benedict. By far the best I've had. I was just drinking black coffee, but be aware it is 7 dollars for a cup. Free refills on coffee. Breakfast for two with coffee and two entrees came out to about 88 dollars after tax and tip. Will definitely be returning for dinner the next time we visit DC. read more

Absolutely delicious! We were staying at the St Regis so we avoided our own hotel for food just to have different experiences. I wish we would've eaten here more than once! We had an early dinner and enjoyed the hummus appetizer (the bread!!!! To die for) the patatas bravas which were served with an amazing garlic aioli and the short rib. The short rib was HUGE.
