This was hands down some of the best falafel I've had in the city, and I loved the tzatziki sauce! Also so impressed I was able to find bread pudding here, it was delish!!

The food was fresh and delicious. Great warm meal in a cozy place on a chilly rainy DC evening. Everything was great! Service was fast and pleasant.

Delicious kofta sandwich. The Monday lunch crowd is busy! They were running a special on falafel sandwiches, so those came out quite quickly. Mine was probably freshly cooked so it took a while. I got the lunch special which is half a sandwich and a side salad. I think Mediterranean salads have too much onion and parsley but it was very refreshing and a great compliment to the rich kofta. The staff were really nice.

10/10 for me! From the efficient service, great value of food, to the cleanliness of this place, I really had no complaints. I enjoyed the taste of Egyptian food in DC - especially the lentil soup after experiencing the cold walk to get indoors - and I'm curious to try more options someday!

I was visiting DC and wanted to meet up with a friend for a quick lunch. We decided to go to Fava Pot because it's not very common to see Egyptian (specifically) cuisine and it was also close by! When we walked in during a weekday lunch hour, the place was not busy at all with only one party seated inside. It's pretty small inside with just a few tables. I walked up to the tablet and ordered a falafel starter and a lunch special with the kofta half sandwich. The food came out rather quickly. I was super impressed with the falafel! Perhaps it's just because this is my first time having Egyptian falafel, but it was extremely flavorful and not as dry as most other falafel I've tried. The texture was coarser as well, reminding me of a nice, freshly fried hash brown. The kofta sandwich was delicious as well, juicy and packed with flavor. The only thing I didn't like was the salad though that's kind of a given for me personally. For $10, the lunch special is honestly a steal! Food: 4.75/5 Price: 4.75/5 Overall: 4.75/5

It was okay. For $62, this restaurant is grossly overpriced. I know it's downtown DC, but if I'm ordering in my own on a kiosk, and there's no server (except a one-time food dropoff), I shouldn't be prompted with 3 tip options of 10%, 15%, and 20%. Still we left 10% on a $56.96 bill. We ordered two entrees, an appetizer, and two nonalcoholic beverages. The food was freshly made. The falafel balls were burnt and too stiff. The tzatziki side was a small portion and wildly oily. The tahini sauce tasted off. The koshary was all right but the macaroni threw me off. The staff member who dropped off the food was friendly and checked on our meal. I don't intend to return.

Flavor packed food in a casual setting that will easily become your next craving! We ordered the spicy chicken with zaatar bowl, chicken kebab bowl and sandwich, hummus and Fetter Meshaltet along with Egyptian coffee. Everything was a 10/10! Chicken was juicy and well seasoned. The spice level of the spicy chicken was mild and the zaatar added that extra level of flavor that took it over the top! The Fetter Meshaltet was AMAZING! I don't have anything to compare it to other than describing it as heavenly. The Egyptian feta and honey drizzled on top was a perfect pairing. Though we ordered as an appetizer, it could easily be enjoyed as a dessert with tea or coffee. Plenty of seating indoor and outdoor with kiosk ordering and friendly service.

Adequate seating inside and outside for such a small restaurant. When you enter you can order for yourself at the kiosk and they will prepare your food. I ordered the apricot juice and it was very yummy. Expect that it's slightly thick but I don't mind that at all. I also order the chicken something that you see I. The picture there (I'm finishing this review months later). 10/10 on that. Would come back again.

A falafel sandwich with vegetables such as red onion and cucumber, served in a pita, alongside a sealed container with a beverage, on a black countertop.

Terrible customer service and confusing policies. I went in to order two falafel sandwiches for me and my husband during their Monday lunch deal ($6 per sandwich, cash only). Right from the start, the older man behind the counter was unwelcoming, with a scowl that immediately made me uncomfortable. I handed him $13 in cash, but he pointed to the screen saying I still owed 20 cents due to tax. I didn't have any extra cash on me and asked if I could pay the rest by card--he said, "Cash only." I was about to leave and go get more cash, but to his credit, he told me to "take a seat," and still prepared the order. I appreciated that small gesture of understanding. However, that moment of goodwill was quickly ruined when I came back to pick up the food. Instead of simply handing me the order, he added, "By the way, only one sandwich per customer, and it has to be eaten here, not to go. I lose a lot of money on these sandwiches." That comment, combined with the unfriendly tone and lack of any posted rules about the promotion, left me with a very negative impression. The restaurant was empty the entire time I was there--just me and one other person who came in after. Charging $15 for a falafel sandwich (before tax!) is already a stretch when better versions are available elsewhere for a third of the price--and with far better service and attitude. If you're going to run a promotion, the terms should be clearly displayed. Customers shouldn't be made to feel like they're doing something wrong by taking part in it. I honestly had a bad experience overall, and unfortunately, I won't be coming back.

Amazing quality, volume of food, and price. Very courteous staff. Very quiet, good balance of ambient middle eastern music.

This restaurant felt very authentic to Egyptian culture and cuisine! The interior was small but the food came out within a few minutes so people were in and out pretty quickly. There were also few tables available outside for dining. Overall, the food was very flavorful! The spicy chicken bowl was my favorite! Lots of complex flavors, and definitely packed a punch! The hummus was delicious as well. I was not the biggest fan of the fava beans or the koshary, but I think it was my individual palate preference. Both were very well made, but a little too rich in flavor for my taste. The only con was that I I wish we got more than one piece of pita, as we had a lot of leftover dip. I would recommend fava pot to anyone looking to try a new and mouthwatering cuisine!

I ended up ordering the King's Koshary (naturally), fetter with cheese and honey, golash with beef, hawashi, shrimpita with jalapenos, and the basbousa for dessert. Overall I was really pleased with everything. The koshary was definitely my favorite. Carb-heavy but delicious. I was a little bit concerned that it might not be filling because there was no meat, but I was so wrong. It was delightfully feeling and delicious. Especially with the red sauce on top. Amazing! The fetter was okay but I expected more cheese. It was also a little greasy. Not my favorite. The golash was nice and hearty. Generous portion of flavorful beef filling in between crispy, flaky layers of dough. Delicious. I wanted to like the hawashi more than I did. I think I probably would have if there was a little bit more filling. The little bit of filling it had was really good. Seasoned well with lots of flavor. But overall I found the sandwich to be pretty dry. I ended up dipping it in some of the red sauce that came with my koshary to make it a little bit easier to eat. The shrimpita was an easy win. If you like quesadillas you'll like this. It was essentially a flatbread, cheese on top, then shrimp and jalapenos. The basbousa was interesting. It had the texture of grits, but sweetened. I'm Glad I tried it, but it was not really my thing. I wouldn't get that again. All the food that I ordered lasted me at least 3 to 4 days. The portions were generous, the staff member who greeted me and handed me my food was friendly and gracious and welcoming. Overall it was a really wonderful experience. If I'm ever in the area I would definitely visit again

KenScale: 8.5/10 Visit: March 2026…read more My wife Jun and I have been to Albi multiple times already and on every visit we end up ordering the exceptional lamb kebabs for our final savory dish. Earlier this year, I saw that the restaurant started offering a large duck rice dish on the menu and, knowing how much Jun loves duck, tried to see if I can book a table. We had a reservation in January but we had to cancel that due to a last-minute trip to New York, and really struggled to find an open seating on a reasonable hour (we just had no appetite for a dinner past 9 p.m.) until recently last month. As we opened up the menu, we were very sad to learn that the duck was no longer on the menu (our server couldn't give a definitive time on when the dish will be back), but that didn't dampen our enthusiasm for another outstanding meal at Albi. Since my last review of the restaurant was in 2023, I figured a re-review was in order, especially given that this visit was our 10th total. When it comes to Middle Eastern spreads, it's hard to beat what Albi offers along with a giant pita bread. At this point, Jun had tried the mushroom hummus with confit egg yolk multiple times, and yet she couldn't again stop marveling how addictively delicious the hummus was with alluringly smoky flavor of mushroom. One new spread that we saw for the first time and decided to order was msabaha with embered firefly squid and white peas covered in tahini; not surprisingly, it was another standout dish even if squid is not an ingredient one would ordinarily see in these spreads. Another item on the menu that we tried for the first time (and really liked) was malfouf, a wrap of cabbages stuffed with smoked beef cheek and red shatta condiment. By now, we have seen multiple variations of the lamb kebabs at Albi and every time we walked out of the restaurant happily stuffed. For the current season, we were greeted with loin and smoked belly shish accompanied by vegetables of charred turnips and brassicas. The lamb's texture as usual was quite outstanding, and the charred vegetables (as well as a side dish of Fattoush salad with orchard fruits and smoked feta) also offered a wonderful complement to the meat. If someone asks me to list the most iconic dishes in DC, I won't hesitate to include the lamb kebabs from Albi. During our trip to Jordan in February, we fell in love with a popular dessert called knafeh (made with pastry dough layered with cheese and soaked in syrup); we never had a chance to try the same from Albi until this visit, and Jun remarked that the delightful knafeh was just like how she remembered from a restaurant in Petra, except the pomegranate sorbet that was placed in the middle. It seems like getting a reservation at Albi is becoming more and more difficult over time. The reservation window opens on the first day of each month and once past that first day, it is really challenging to find a seating during early and prime-time dinner windows, especially for the main dining room. This visit was the first time we had to be seated at the bar as we were slightly late to the reservation party, but the bar seating actually wasn't bad at all, as we chatted with the friendly bartenders from time to time while enjoying the food. As always, the beverage list at Albi is outstanding, featuring many Middle East-based cocktails and wines. As we increasingly find ourselves in our culinary journey together these days visiting our old favorites more often rather than checking out new places all the time, Jun and I are very thankful that Albi is in DC. It still is firing on all cylinders even after being around for several years in the DC dining scene, and deserves to be one of the best restaurants in the city.

The food is nothing but genius--fantastic concepts like their roasted carrots, soft, spicy outer textures with a simultaneously solid and rich core. Their hummus is delectable and thick, offering an appreciated simplistic flavor paired with everything served. Their nutty, sweet, warm halloumi, mezze tasting (various pickled veggies offering a cool addition and sometimes a kick), ribeye steak & chicken souvlaki blew me away. The steak was as good as it was last time (9.9/10), and the chicken souvlaki was soft, cooked to perfection served with a zingy garnish of pickled onions. For dessert, their chocolate spiced mousse was a run-of-the-mill chocolate mousse. It was good, but I wasn't getting much of the spice. The service at our time there has a funny backstory--reservations were accidentally made at their sister restaurant, Medina. However, due to it being a special occasion, George (shoutout) managed to find us a perfect seat on the second level, overlooking the inner workings of the exposed aesthetic of the restaurant. I'll hit the highlights first, as there are too many to detail at length: the delightful amuse bouche (corn tart!), the cocktails that may be the best in DC, the completely original cold vongole and stroganoff, wagyu that melts in your mouth, and service at par with Pineapple and Pearls and Inn at Little Washington. The team is clearly pushing for two stars, which is delightful, so I wanted to write with a few notes that may help them along. 1) As other reviewers have noted, the experience is tarnished slightly by its length and pacing. Particularly annoying was the wait until 720 for a late party. You've gotta figure out how to catch them up so that the rest of us aren't waiting 20 min for bread. And with a 7p start, it's not ok for us to be getting home at 11:15. I love all the major dishes and would be sad to see any go, but you've gotta have either tighter pacing or larger portions and fewer plates through the mains. 2) Gotta start on a better note. The sourdough bread was cold and tough. If I were a Michelin reviewer, that starting note alone would keep you out of two stars because it just begged the question, "did anyone try this?" 3) Relatedly, the desserts are impenetrably academic. The pumpkin and selva negra both taste like a good idea that someone then overthought and kept editing/adding until it just didn't taste good. I get the push for stardom, but in both cases, we would've all preferred a simple scoop of vanilla ice cream. Stop overthinking it. None of us finished either of them. Everyone's favorite was the simple sorbet. Why harp on these minor quibbles given how mindblowingly awesome the overall experience was? Well, they are pushing for two stars, and the meal costs $400 per person all in. At this level, the bar is continuous improvement toward excellence. I really hope they get there!
