3.5/5 While I absolutely loved the decor and feel of the Gudetama Cafe, my food experience, to quote Gudetama, was "meh." The menu has various egg themed dishes as well as bubble tea. For the price we paid the quality of the food wasn't really worth the money. It was cute seeing the little Gudetama face on the eggs but this is probably a singular dining experience for me. The drinks we ordered were way too sweet for me and they had a limited selection of merchandise. I wanted to get a T-shirt but unfortunately they only had one size available. The other merchandise I looked at either didn't seem appealing or was way too expensive for what it was (which seemed to be the theme of the day). I love this themed cafe! Located in Buena Park, across the parking lot from Knott's Berry Farm! We came for lunch on a Saturday, and though there were already some patrons, we didn't have to wait long for our table. We went up to the counter to place our order: the Moco meh, the beef bowl, and the kids' teriyaki bowl. We added a banana nut matcha (a must try!), and they also offered various sauces for no extra charge! The cashier told us where we would be seated, and our order would be delivered right to our table when it was ready. The food came out not long after we ordered, and we were pleasantly surprised by how cute it looked! Our kids were really egg-cited! And well, so was I! We couldn't wait to dig in! All the food we ordered was delicious! The Moco Meh was satisfying and had a good portion. The beef bowl was a bit healthier; it came with a small salad alongside the rice and bulgogi. The kid's chicken teriyaki bowl was also yummy. It was a good portion, the chicken was seasoned and cooked right, and it was tender and juicy! Our kids loved it! The kid's meal also came with apple juice. The banana-nut matcha drink was refreshing, sweet, and a great treat! There were so many more items on the menu I would have loved to try, so we'll do that on our next visit. There were plenty of photo ops and Gudetama merchandise, and some Kuromi merchandise. After so long with the hype dying down, I had to pull up here to see what this place was all about. I loved the Gudetama furniture and space, very cute! We got the Passionfruit Yogurt Smoothie and Banana Matcha. I'll be honest, the restaurant was empty with no customers, yet it took a long time for us to receive our drinks. I did see that the staff had made a mistake with the matcha and threw out the first batch to make another one. The smoothie was not what I expected at all. Thought it was going to be yogurt based but it was purely a slushy. The matcha was very chalky and super bitter. Banana cream tasted a bit sour... My husband and I had been wanting to go here for a while. We stopped by this cafe some time ago for a brunch date and enjoyed our experience. There are no servers, instead you order at the counter. They give you a number and call it out once your order is ready for you to pick up. For our drinks we both ordered the Crème Brûlée Cold Brew. We thought the cold brew was unique and tasty. The flavor definitely reminded us of crème brûlée, especially with the caramelized sugar and cold foam at the top. For food we both ordered the Gude Katsu, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich. The sandwiches came with a spicy chili sauce on the side, and we had the option to get extra sauces (ranch, ketchup, etc...). We also chose to get a side order of Tater Tots with our sandwiches. We enjoyed our meal and thought the food was delicious and flavorful. The spicy chili sauce was a great addition to the sandwich and elevated all of the other flavors in it. We used the other sauces for the tater tots, which worked out perfectly. The food is a little pricey, but they have generous portion sizes. We thought the sandwich on its own was very filling (my husband and I ended up feeling super full and almost didn't finish our meal, but that's not necessarily a bad thing lol...). In my opinion, we could have ordered a sandwich and shared one side (which we will do next time) and still have been full and satisfied. After we finished our meal we decided to get a Gudetama themed Cream Puff for dessert (to take home and enjoy later), which was delicious. The interior of the restaurant was clean and had plenty of places to sit. The dining atmosphere was pleasant, and they had music playing at a comfortable listening level. There was cute Gudetama art and decor throughout the cafe, including at the entrance and in the bathroom. A few of the props/decor allowed for photo ops, which was nice and added to the fun, adorable vibes. They also had a merch section with Sanrio themed items (plushies, clothes, bags...etc) available for purchase. The staff here were very polite, provided great customer service, and had our order ready quickly. Before we left we took a few pictures of the props/decor, and snapped a few selfies together. I also bought a few of their themed merch items (small Gudetama plush and Kuromi crop top). Overall we had a great experience and thought this was a cute little cafe. 100% GUDETAMA Place is cute and true to theme. Lines have died down since so if you have been waiting to try it, now is your chance. The creme brulee cold brew was perfect. The creme on top was super sweet torched condensed milk. And the coffee was strong enough to balance out the drink. I'd say it's more on the dessert side. Unfortunately the matcha was not very good. My date ordered the pumpkin matcha but it just tasted like water and pumpkin. Couldn't really taste the hints of green tea. But we didn't expect ceremonial high quality matcha from a pop up breakfast shop. Another dessert drink. The curry plate is okay. I liked how easy it was to order and select your table here. The hype has definitely died down which is good! I had been wanting to go since last year when they first opened, but it was way too busy. Now, there's no line even on the weekends. I didn't think they would still stay open but alas, they've been open for a year now! So now, instead of just simple breakfast sandwiches, they have many rice dishes and seasonal drink options! Loco Moco & chicken and waffles with egg, etc! They have pumpkin spice matcha which was good, not the best but it does the job! Would've liked to have more pumpkin flavor throughout the drink rather than just the top. Oat and almond milk are available. My curry and katsu chicken was cute, but they overcooked my yolk lol. It tasted great though. Overall, a fun and cute experience, even though my fav Sanrio character is Aggretsuko (I wish they had more merch for her.....things kinda died down for her since the ending of her Netflix show). I was kind of a fan of Spottie Dottie during my childhood years. But Aggretsuko is my spirit animal currently lmao. Still a kawaii experience for everyone! Walked in for my first time ever just to walk back out. We didn't even get a chance to see their menu or see their service. We unknowingly, walked in through the wrong door. We saw someone use it right before we did, didn't notice any signage, and the door was unlocked, so we thought it was okay. But we only got a few steps in before the host approached us, barely welcoming us in then said "for future reference, you can't use this door to enter, it should be treated as a wall." Been wanting to try out the Gudetama Cafe for a while. Finally made the trip after hearing the lines have died down. We went on a Saturday around lunchtime. There were no lines and a handful of patrons in the restaurant. You walk up to a counter to place your order and the food is brought out to your table. Service was good but the food was just okay. The highlight was the cute Gudetama face on the fried egg. There were quite a few Gudetamas on display throughout the restaurant plus a small gift shop area. I would say come check out the cafe if you're a die hard Gudetama fan. But I probably wouldn't make a trip here if you're coming for the food. read more

Such a cute character cafe in Buena Park! I love Gudetama, so I had to visit! If you're a fan of Sanrio or just love cute, themed cafes, Gudetama Cafe is a must-visit! Everything in the cafe from the decor to the food presentation is adorably on brand with the character. I came here with my friends on a Friday afternoon. It was moderately busy, but parking was easy to find since it's located in a fairly large (and mostly empty) parking lot. The food was not bad. I got the Gude-golgi Bowl (Bulgogi Bowl), and it was flavorful and satisfying. The portion sizes were a lot bigger than I expected, though I do wish the meat had been slightly more tender. The prices are a bit higher than a regular café, but that's somewhat expected due to the character theme. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and there was also a small Gudetama merch area near the entrance. This place is super cute and fun. We had lunch here last Saturday and it wasn't too busy when we arrived. We were quickly greeted as we walked in and the employees were all welcoming. I ordered the spam and rice entree and a can of apple juice ($26). My sister had a cheeseburger and my cousin had the chicken sandwich. If you are aware of Sanrio and all of its characters like Hello Kitty and Keroppi, then you may be familiar with Gudetama, the little "Lazy Egg." When I learned that there was a Gudetama Cafe a couple miles down the road, we had to go. Even on the outside, the restaurant is fun! When you walk in you see toast and bacon on the ceiling and Gudetama everywhere. Everything is yellow and white, the color of eggs, including the metal tables. There is an egg shaped table in the middle with a large Gudetama in a gold shell. There are even Gudetama cream puffs from Beard Papa's on display. Near the entrance there is Gudetama merchandise for sale, and it appeared that many people were buying it. You order at the counter and they will bring your food to you. Almost everything comes topped with an egg . . . But not just an ordinary egg. It's Gudetama, face and all! There are lots of breakfast items, but also sliders and a burger, and what we ordered - - bulgogi with salad and white rice topped with an egg and Japanese curry with katsu with white rice topped with an egg. We also got a Mango Sparkle drink. The food was good and came out relatively quickly, but if we're being honest I feel like most people are here for the novelty. That's what made it such a nice surprise that the food was good too! You kind of have to look for this place, as you don't see it from passing by. There were also plushes and other gudetama items that you can purchase. To order, you go up to the counter and they bring your food over to you. For drinks we ordered a matcha milk tea, passion fruit yogurt smoothie, and sparkling mango. All the drinks were really good. For food, we order the gude-golgi bowl and too lazy to curry. To be honest the food was mid. I think that maybe we should have tried a sandwich instead since it's a majority of the main menu, but the new-items menu caught our eyes instead. Cute character cafe with my favorite Sanrio character, Gudetama. The decor inside is adorable, and staff is friendly. Food is decent. Kids felt a bit weird eating the egg yolk character face. :) Any actual egg yolk dish (like cheeseburger with egg) is served with sunny side up egg with runny yolk...so watch out if you don't like runny egg. My son's Cluck 'n Waffles has a scoop of butter with the face, equally cute. Parking is easy...the mall/plaza is kind of empty so plenty of spots. Attentive service and good quality, except for the sweet cream cold brew which tasted like unsweetened creamer over drip coffee. French toast includes butter and orange maple syrup. I thought the serving of curry was small for a teenage boy. The concept is supposed to be nostalgia; but if you don't know this character this is more novelty, the kind of food you eat with your high school friends at the mall. Not much of a crowd given the time and day I assume it's busy on weekends cause they had a rope system outside lol The inside is so fun and playful. Finally after all these years I'm able to visit! I've avoided the Gudetama Cafe for so long especially after the hype of the hours long wait when it first opened, even a year after, I guess I came on the wrong weekday and there was still an hour wait outside. I came by recently on a Sunday afternoon and there was no wait and plenty of open tables. Really makes me hope this business stays open since it's lasted this long and gives me hope that more themed/concept eateries and kawaii spots open up in SoCal/the states in general. From the parking lot you can see the bright yellow and Gudetama art all over the building. When you walk in, everything is decorated from the tables, the small egg themed food statues (pudding crepe, eggs benedict, etc.), the spinnable Gudetama at the special table, the photo op in the back, the large decor hanging from the ceiling and even the restroom has a touch of Gudetama too. It's a simple cafe with breakfast/brunch style sandwiches, sides, drinks, and some small desserts. They also had the Beard Papa Gudetama cream puffs here, which I don't think are offered at Beard Papa anymore, so if you missed your chance previously, you can still get them here! We got the: 1) Sleepy Sliders: -It's 2 wagyu beef sliders on a brioche bun with baby leaf lettuce, fried mozzarella, and quail egg with spicy ketchup sauce and a side of tater tots. -Comes with cute Gudetama wooden skewers on top. -Burger patties were seasoned decently. Loved how it tasted with the mozzarella and the texture of it being fried. Can't go wrong with solid tater tots and spicy ketchup either. 2) Mango Milk with mango puree: -Got this at half sweet and it was already pretty sweet so I can't imagine it at 100%. -However, if you like mango, this is proliferating with mango taste from the liquid to the topping, so enjoy! 3) Sparkling Mango: -This is a carbonated soda flavored with mango syrup and the jellies that it comes with. Can be a bit sweet if not mixed correctly, but decently refreshing. I enjoyed the spicy mayo ketchup (?) that they offered for no additional cost here. Gave a little bit more of a tangy taste than what you'd expect elsewhere. There is a dining time limit here, but we stayed almost until closing from the time that we got there and I feel like so long as the cafe itself isn't super busy the workers are friendly and kind enough to let people stay longer. They play the cartoon episodes of Gudetama on repeat too, so you get to have a real "Gude" time as one might say. I think my only qualm is that a lot of the merch displayed is either not available or stated would be restocked later on in a different season. Would have loved it if there were freebies given out (coasters/stickers) similar to the cafes in Japan or if there were more items to purchase, but overall, I had a "Gude" time! read more

After being open for about 1 year ago, my husband and I finally made it to the Gudetama Cafe in Buena Park (located in the same plaza as John's Incredible Pizza Company. For those that are not familiar with Gudetama, this lazy and rather sad and in despair egg (who is genderless because Gudetama is an unfertilized egg) has become such a popular Sanrio character that the world finds to be so cute. I didn't quite get it at first but after watching a few of the cartoons, I can see the appeal of Gudetama. We visited this cafe yesterday and walked in a little before 5 pm. There was only one party of two ahead of us. After looking over the menu board, we ended up purchasing: Affogato Ice Cream Coffee, $6 prior to tax- Initially my husband didn't like this drink, but after the ice cream started to melt, he thought it was much better. I am not a coffee drinker so I didn't try any. Matcha Milk Tea, $6 prior to tax- I opted for this drink to be made with 50% sweetener and no ice. The drink was fine. Beard Papa Cream Puffs, $6, prior to tax- We decided to get two of these. The cream puffs have Gudetama's signature facial expression on top. The face itself reminds me of a jelly candy. The cream puff shell was a little dry but cream inside was good. ----------------------------------- (Total= $25.86 after tax) Wait time for our order was 10 minutes. The employee who took our order was friendly and the employee who gave us our order was also friendly. I like that you are able to get your own to go containers and paper bags if you do not finish your food items if you dine in. I also love all of the yellow and cute photo opportunities around the restaurant. The tables have Gudetama's face and feel that the restaurant is well decorated. A major con is the one unisex restroom. Every time I wanted to use it, there was always a wait for it (usually a small line). So I never got to use it (but assume that it is also decked out in yellow Gudetama fashion). I thought the prices for beverages were affordable (and definitely not as expensive as I thought it would be) and some of the entree items are also fairly priced. You can purchase various merchandise and shirts at this restaurant. They also sell some Calbee branded snacks. The interior of Gudetama Café is adorably decorated! It is quite a spacious spot with the high ceilings and large parking lot. However, it was a bit difficult to determine if the café was opened or closed because of how dark the exterior appeared. We came in later in the day, around 4PM, two hours before closing. Surprisingly, none of the menu items were sold out, which was good for us! We didn't order too many items since the menu was a lot more limited than we thought. Plus, we were planning to eat more later that evening elsewhere. We ordered the Lazy Bacon, Eggs, and Cheese Sandwich served with tater tots, Crème Brûlée Cold Brew, and Affogato Ice Cream Coffee. Our total came out to $33.18 The service was sufficient, maybe a bit awkward, but no issues. I don't think the food, or drinks were that great. It wasn't anything worth trying again. Stopped by after our trip to Knott's, luckily for us it was a Saturday since we usually only come up this way during the week and noticed their odd and short hours of Fri-Sun. It took a minute to be greeted, a bunch of kids just standing at the register looking like they don't know what to do as people stood around waiting to order. Finally got my order in, lunch for 4 and 2 drinks pushed $80 after tip, quite steep for what you are actually getting. Food was decent, wagyu sliders had no flavor and the katsu was extremely thin. Put the sauce on the bun for the sliders and not the lettuce so it's less messy and the passion fruit mango smoothie is missing the creamy milky texture, it's more of a thick icy slush. Presentation of the food was adorable and picture perfect. We wanted cream puffs, but refused to pay $6 a piece, that's crazy prices. They had barely any merch out, lots of photo ops except they had some weird anime doll photo shoot going on which took up half of the small restaurant and made it extremely uncomfortable and unwelcoming as these people went around the entire area taking pictures around you, our family agreed that it was very odd. Gave 4 stars over 3 because after we got our food and drinks, it was overall a fun first experience. At first I thought it was closed but no, the doors just remain closed to keep the AC in. It wasn't busy when I arrived. Found a table easily. I threw more than half away. I felt I was drinking straight up sugar...couldn't really taste the cold brew. Tried it once and that's enough for me. Don't really see myself returning. One of my favorite places in Buena Park. This café is adorable and had an extreme amount of photo opportunities. I went on a Saturday and it wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. It did start getting busy as I was leaving so I'm sure this place is consistently busy. They had a select number of items for breakfast and early lunch. I loved their coffee. The crème brûlée cold brew was seriously one of the best drinks I have ever had. The avocado toast had some balsamic vinaigrette on it and I could have done without that. Gudetama Cafe has been on my bucket list since I heard the cafe was opening up in Buena Park but the long lines and wait times definitely discouraged me from going. But after months since opening, I finally went! Not sure if I was just lucky with the time I went or if the hype died down because there was no wait when I stopped by. The Sanrio's lazy egg themed cafe is based on the fictional Gudetama character so I wasn't surprised when I saw Gudetama everywhere inside and outside of the cafe! The interior was amazing!!!....and the food was not. Gudetama Cafe clearly puts all of its efforts into the aesthetic presentation of the food and restaurant. The interior of Gudetama Cafe was unlike anything I've ever seen. The entire cafe was Gudetama themed, from its chairs, table, artwork, and, of course, its food. They even have a TV playing cute Gudetama animations in the background. The aesthetics made it perfect for photo opportunities! However, once it came to the food, all my expectations came crashing down. Even though we were the first customers of the day, we nearly had to wait 30 minutes for our order. Once I got it, our food felt lukewarm, which confused me since that would've meant our food was just sitting at the counter. Poor customer service right off the bat. We got the Gude Katsu, Egg, Cheese, and Whatever Avocado Toast. For the amount that we waited and paid for our food, our meal was very subpar. Besides the cute Gudetama egg presentation, it tasted very basic and rushed, something that I easily could've made at home. I would like to speak more highly of this cafe if they put more effort into their customer service and the quality of their food. However, it's clear that they dedicated their efforts to making the cafe into an aesthetic photoshoot instead of its intended purpose of serving actual food. read more

The cafe is decorated so cute and they sell shirts and toys, along with food. The service was good and the staff was helpful and polite. The Moco Meh was good;very flavorful. Each meal was about $15 and although you get a good amount of food, it's kind of expensive. I spent $40 on 2 meals and a drink. I also spent $70 on 2 shirts and a keychain toy. The location is odd. It's next to a rundown shopping mall, across the street from Knotts Berry Farm parking lot. read more

We came here a few weeks ago on a Sunday, this is long after the hype died down so it was easy to find a seat. The cafe did get really busy later. The cafe is clean and super cute inside with lots of photo op's. I wasn't here for the merch, but noticed most of it was sold out except for t shirts and of Sanrio characters that were not gudetama (lol). It's a nice little spot to get some breakfast, most everything is topped with eggs of our titular popular lazy egg character. We decided to have the katsu sandwich and the sausage sandwich. We did upgrade one of the sets of tots to try, but it probably wasn't really worth the cost of the upgrade and they weren't consistent with the bacon, as my sister's order was loaded with much more than ours was. Probably wouldn't get the upgrade next time. I enjoyed the passion fruit yogurt smoothie (which was really good as someone who doesn't like sweet drinks) and hubby enjoyed the affogato coffee (which wasn't too sweet and had a good coffee taste to it). Parking was really easy. I would come back again for the vibes, the drinks and maybe to try some of the other items. It's a place to hang out with friends or family. read more

This place is located in a deserted mall. It's a cute spot and the design is super cute. The inside is super cute as well. It is one of those fast food service. They are pretty quick when it comes to making the food. It's like your basic eggs, tots, and cheese sandwich. The lazy bacon sandwich is good, they stacked the bacon and you get your moneys worth. 5/5. The Wagyu sliders are decent. Well seasoned but the meat is overcooked. 4.2/5. The crème brûlée coffee is strong, but good. Not as sweet. 3.6/5 The star drink is the sparkling mango. That hits Judy right and the mango chunks make it that much better. 5/5 There is only one bathroom and it's dirty. Someone press on the floor it's disgusting. Cute little restaurant that my kids wanted to try and enjoy. Friendly staff, the food menu is simple, you can even make alternatives if need to be. The food is a little pricey, but I guess you get what the name brand of what this place is for. Cute decorations all around with the statues and tables. This place is located in a deserted mall area that had a few food places next to it, but not a lot. Food came out at a decent time, only one bathroom. If you are or are not familiar with the Gudetama character this is a must-see cafe! Located at the Buena Park mall, this cafe gives you the delight of not only a refreshing or delicious drink but an adorable cafe with multiple things to see and take a picture of! The drinks we ordered were efficiently prepared. My personal favored was the iced coffee affogato drink because it was the perfect blend of sweetness and a rich coffee taste! Sadly, I didn't have the opportunity to try any of their food items available but would want to come back to try them! There are plenty of parking spaced available near the entrance of the cafe, there should be no problems. read more
