I ordered an everything funnel cake but they were out of vanilla ice cream and I went with the cinnamon ice cream. Don't do that, cinnamon ice cream was not it with the funnel cake. I feel like you could smell the funnel cake being made in the past and now there's no wafting odor in the air and it tastes a little reheated and not freshly fried. The funnel cake at Knotts Berry is the best by far! However, the best place to get this glorious funnel cake is Sutter's Funnel cake inside the park - in Ghost Town. Now I don't want to buy an entrance ticket for funnel cake, the thought has crossed my mind, so I'll settle for second best. Thankfully the wonderful people at Knotts have provided a way to enjoy their delectable funnel cake right outside their park. If you're traversing the Knotts boardwalk (think of a mini downtown Disney) then stop on in and get your fix. They have your standard (albeit delicious) strawberry and of course, their signature boysenberry. Always top it off with ice cream! The one's I get at Cable Car Kitchen just aren't as crisp as the one's they serve at Sutter's - maybe they place the best fry cooks inside the park? Parking in the park is going to set you back a pretty penny, if you don't mind the trek, you can park in some residential areas but be aware of the business parking, they will tow you. Always our last stop before we go home, we eagerly looked forward to having a funnel cake topped with ice cream on the way out. There was a line which is good as it tells us people really want to consume what they sell. The person in front of me made a fast transaction and left. I ordered. Waiting for ten... fifteen... twenty minutes. Nothing. They finally called the number ahead of me which was the exact item I ordered. No one came to pick up said item. They take the item back then call my number... "oh... sorry... we ran out of funnel cake mix. Do you want another 'discounted' item or a refund?" Refund. What once was Pinks, what once was many things is now a Cable Car Kitchen that's full of delicious goodies! They have a pretty straightforward menu it's all about the Sandwiches! With a few choices sounding good I had a hard time deciding but what really caught my eye was The Berry Gobbler and the fact that it has Boysenberry Mayo. Me loving OC's indigenous man made Boysenberry this was a definite yes to getting The Berry Gobbler it had a good amount of turkey on it and all of the toppings went really well with that delicious Boysenberry mayo that was served on a almost roll type of bread with rosemary sprinkled on top. This being Knotts you know all the food is going to be a bit pricy but what I ordered and what I got was actually not that bad of a value especially when it was applied with the season pass discount. This is a great new place for Knotts and definitely one of the better establishments to grab food at I definitely will be back here on a future Knotts visit! I was actually really impressed with the food here. This used to be Pinks and recently changed to Cable Car Kitchen. Today was my first time trying it with the family and am happy we tried it. Place inside was empty and slow. Service was okay. Nothing spectacular. The decor was very plain. Not much on the tables or walls. We ended up sitting outside in shade because it was a lot cooler than inside. Looking at prices I was already thinking they are way too pricey before getting our food. The sandwiches are about 8-11 dollars depending what you choose. That doesn't include combo. If you want a drink and fries it's $5.99 extra for medium and no refills on drinks. You can use your season pass which helps a lot! The food came out quickly and the sandwiches were huge. I do have to say at that point you see your food you do get what you pay for. My girls got a grilled cheese which was also really big. They both liked it. I got a meatball sandwich and those meatballs were gigantic. I loved the bread on the sandwich and the amount of cheese. The sauce could have used some flavor it was a little watery. My hubby and mom got the turkey boysenberry which said was good but needed more sauce. My dad got the rueben sandwich and he kept talking and but how much he liked it. All sandwiches were big so it doesn't matter which one you choose. The fries were string fries and they were okay. My only compliant was they served us bad Sprite and when we took it back they said they already knew. So we asked why they gave it to us...but responded with its good now. I do reviews when I can, and generally like to cover places that doesn't receive a whole lot of attention. I was pleasantly surprised with Cable Car Kitchen when I ate there, and to my disappointment, I discovered that they recently closed to be a To Go location for Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. I love the chicken restaurant too, but I feel like the Cable Car Kitchen was such a great place. I'm hoping Knott's Berry Farm will read the reviews, and place some form of the restaurant in another location. Food: To say that these sandwiches are huge is an understatement! I went there because my reservations wasn't until later that day, so I thought I would "snack" on something. Well, needless to say, I was stuffed when I went to my reservation. I ordered the Mac n Cheese sandwich, and I was pleasantly surprised of the portion and of the deliciousness the sandwich provided. My sister order a pastrami and was also not disappointed. Atmosphere: This is honestly where I was a little disappointed. One of the things that I absolutely love about Knott's Berry Farm is their knack for sticking to a theme. They even do this better than Disneyland now. Theme parks do generally have a higher price tag, but unlike Disneyland, at least this food is delicious! I don't mind paying extra for quality and quantity. Could it be cheaper, I suppose, but is it unjustified? Not really. Overall: I seriously hope to see the Cable Car Kitchen back soon, or at least moved to another location. I can easily see this inside the park, but if they decide to do so, keep the consistency going by placing a central theme around it. With Pink's (thankfully - no offense, but the Buena Park Pink's was an overpriced 'blah' hot dog stand that brought shame to the legendary original one near Hollywood) gone, Knott's added a new counter service deli in it's same Pink's former Marketplace location. I must say when I first saw the price, $14.99, for the Wrangler sandwich combo, I thought it was a bit high for a pastrami sandwich, kettle chips and a drink. I am honestly admit I was gratefully wrong based on the amount of sliced pastrami that was loaded onto the sandwich. The sandwich was great too; simple, but right with a nice spicy brown mustard. I left feeling full and I got my monies worth. I am already thinking about going back to try Cable Car's Open Claim open face meatball sandwich on the next visit. Other quick notes: The simplicity of the dining area, while small, was nice. Sometimes too much flair is distracting and takes away from the food. Also the service crew I met on Wednesday was extra friendly and reminded me of a classic Disney service quality. As to why I could not give this place a five, I would say I would have liked to go to 4.50 if possible. The only downside, which is really a compliment to the new Cable Car team here, is as good as the sandwich was, it was not as good as the ones they make at Langer's in Los Angeles. This places had the best funnel cakes for years I would stop here on my way out. On July 31st I treated my daughters to a tasty treat. Normally I get the cake and go but that night we started eating there. I took a bite and realized my funnel cake was not fully cooked. I took it back and they told me they would give me another one.
