Wow!!! This place seriously has a unique set up and it is awesome! Very welcoming and the food is hearty and for sure fills you up. The Rodeo burger is crazy flavorful and the onion rings on the burger and on the side hit so good. The chocolate cake shake is so bomb and has bits of cake at the bottom! Definitely a place to treat yourself! All the art all over the walls are really cool too and has a nice vibe to it.

Portillo's chocolate cake is a little slice of heaven. I've ordered this cake for my HusBae's bday in the past and we had to get some in person! I wish the cake was served on a plate instead of in a plastic box and that there were coffee options too. We came here just for the cake but there are a bunch of food options as well. Save room for dessert! ;)

Ordered to go so I can't really speak on the service. Fun family atmosphere. Lots of tables and you can see into the kitchen. I got the Italian beef sandwich and the hot dog. I could hardly wait for the Italian beef so I ate most of it walking to the car. The bread was soft and soaked up a lot of the juice from the meat. There was a large amount of beef. Flavorful and just delicious. The hotdog I ate the next morning so I can't give an honest review of how it is when it's fresh but when I heated it up, it had a great snap and was delicious. I'll be back if I ever see another Portilllo's.

Love Portillo's! I absolutely love the cheese! Get the French fries with cheese sauce. It's such a great combination. They make the fries crunchy and salt them perfectly. One thing I noticed, is that they always have top notch customer service at Portillo's. They make sure you have your order correct, and provide condiments and napkins. Ambiance is usually just, but worth the wait. The food is consistently good.

Dipped Italian Beef with Sweet Peppers and Giardiniera Peppers

I've been wanting to visit Portillo's for a while, but we're always busy when we're in Anaheim. Finally, I got the chance to check it out! As a chain from Illinois, this is one of only two California locations, and it's in Buena Park. The place was packed early, even shortly after opening. You can order at a kiosk or in line. Be sure to keep your receipt; they call out your number when it's ready. The Italian Beef with hot Giardiniera and sweet peppers is pretty good. I recommend getting the dip on the side; it gets soggy quickly, especially if you take it to go. I ordered food for the whole family, but they didn't care for it, so that means more for me! Haha. I even ate the leftovers the next day, and heating them up on the stovetop was just as good, if not better. I heated the broth on the side and drizzled it over the sandwich, and also used it for dipping. I tried the Chicago Dog after having the Italian beef, and I thought it was the best. It was the perfect bite - the spice of the peppers, sweetness of the onions and relish, and the great snap of the dog really hit the spot. I even ate it when the bun was soggy, and I still loved it! This fast food is as good as it gets! As with any fast-food place, mistakes can happen with orders. I checked my order upon receiving it and everything seemed correct, but I mistakenly didn't check for the sauces. I saw ketchup in containers, so I went to the counter to ask for packets. However, I forgot to check for the two sauces I ordered with my son's chicken tenders, and they were missing. We didn't realize it until we left, unfortunately. The onion rings were pretty good, and I would order them again, but the crinkle-cut fries were a bit soggy, so I wouldn't order them again. They offer Coke products with free refills if you dine in. I love Portillo's logo, with the weiner dog in a bun with white and red stripes - it's a very iconic design. I definitely will come back to Portillo's; it's my go-to spot for a Chicago Dog. However, since we don't live nearby, I won't be able to visit as often as I'd like. The restaurant is spacious, and I love the Chicago-style decor - it makes you feel right at home. I would definitely order the Italian beef again with the dip on the side, and I'd also get two Chicago dogs.

We got the food pretty quick. I had the double burger and it was amazing and juicy. The bun was soft. I actually like it better than In-N-Out Burger. The place was busy. The place had an old Midwest restaurant kind of theme. I'll be back.

FOOD: I am surprised that I've never written a review for this place. I eat here several times a year. I almost always have the same thing. Beef sandwich with cheese or no cheese, but definitely without peppers and onions. They wet the bread with au jus and I usually don't like wet bread so I ask for lightly wet. I also enjoy the chopped salad. The salad has tiny little pastas in it, and the dressing complements the salad very well. It comes with a nice piece of bread and butter. They also have a delicious chocolate cake. They have that chocolate cake shake that is really popular, but I don't like it because I don't like clumps of stuff in my shake. SERVICE: I usually drive through and especially during the pandemic they were drive-through only. The staff have always been pleasant and professional. AMBIENCE: I have been inside a few times and it's really cutely decorated. The restaurant is clean and large inside. There's plenty of seating inside and the parking lot is at the mall so there's plenty of parking.

New Computer Registers, Fast Service, Classic Food from Chicago! And.....This sweet lady Martha made our visit so pleasant. She was very attentive and made sure we had napkins and straws AND she even re-visited our table once we got our food to ensure we had everything we needed. I had spilled my soda on my foot and felt so bad to have made a mess but she told me "don't worry about it" with a smile! Grade A experience! Portillo's needs to know what a great Employee they have! She's running things and keeping this busy, famous restaurant going! Dined in! But take out is also an option!

Regular hot dog with mayo ketchup and mustard looks soggy but it was delicious

We were close by and decided to stop by just for something sweet. No hot dogs today. Hubby had a shake and I had seven-layer chocolate éclair cake. It was good very rich.... If you like chocolate. It's a weekday and it wasn't busy at all. Yay for us. See ya next time

Seriously, Portillo's has the best onion rings in the game; they're super crispy and crunchy, and seasoned to perfection. I absolutely love the rodeo burger. It's like the western cheeseburger at Carl's Jr, but much much, MUCH better quality and taste. It's paired with their amazing onion rings inside the burger, so it's phenomenal in flavors and textures. I eat it with their delicious refrigerated ranch ( you can ask for some when your number gets called at the pick up window). They have a wall full of cute merch at the check out line now! I received a slice of chocolate cake for free for my birthday month by being in their loyalty club. So decadent! Overall, I love Portillo's. They have ample seating and the staff are all so nice and helpful. Highly recommend.

Two Chicago dogs, onion rings and a drink. Filling!

I was visiting the family home in Buena Park and decided to get some Chicago dogs from Portillo's. I've been a fan of Portillo's since they opened up this location, even coming to the grand opening of this one. I know Portillo's started in Chicago, and I've been told that the Chicago dogs are authentic. I'm not sure if they are or aren't, but I know that they're tasty! This location is in a standalone building in the parking lot of Buena Park Downtown. Don't let the Downtown part of the name fool you; it's not the actual downtown section of Buena Park. Anyhow, parking for Portillo's is easy to find. This Portillo's have a drive thru. which can save you time with their quickness. I like ordering at the counter with a live person. I've never had bad customer service. My go to order has been two Chicago Dogs, onion rings and a drink. I look forward to getting my order number, which is what the employee at the pick up area will call out in addition to something else that they'll say, such as, "Order number 108, your meal will be great!" or something similarly silly like that. The hot dogs are made of beef and have the casing on them, so you'll get that snap when biting into them. When ordering them, I always get everything on them, which includes sliced tomatoes, chopped onions, celery salt, peppers, yellow mustard and their bright green relish - everything piled in/on a poppy seed hot dog bun. The onion rings are deep fried, not too greasy, and are nice and crispy. Fountain drinks are self-serve. There are many more items on the menu, including burgers, sausages, salads and desserts. This place can get very noisy, depending on the amount of customers, and is a pretty good place for large groups. There is outdoor seating in the patio. Enjoy!

Every time we are in the area, it is our tradition to stop by this amazing Portillos. The staff are always so nice and helpful and the food is so flavorful! Our go-to orders are the beef sandwich with sweet and hot peppers, their spicy chicken sando, Maxwell dog, and fries with cheese sauce. We also order hot oil to give our meals a bit of a kick. This trip I decided to purchase a chocolate shake air freshener and a drink cup keychain. Upon paying, the worker noticed the lights on the display turned the cup a bit yellow and offered a replacement. Upon looking she couldn't find one, but she gave me a free sticker and some hats. Sadly the keychain cup fell the first day I had it and got lost, but I'll be back to get another keychain soon. I can honestly say we are never disappointed and the restaurant itself is kitschy and fun. Definitely try Portillo's if you're in the area!

    Chicago Dog Italian Beef/Peppers
    Russell S.

I ordered a Chicago Dog and an Italian Beef with Sweet Peppers. Numbers one and two of their menu. I ate the dog first. First take was a lot of vegetables. Pickle spear peppers a lot of relish mustard and a very snappy dog. Perfect bite. The Italian Beef is very moist and tender. The Sweet Peppers are cooked perfectly for a sandwich and delicious.

Ask the Community - Portillo's Buena Park

    Do they except EBT?

Good question. I googled and it says yes. They are a part of the restaurant meals program.

Do they have dollar hot dog days?

    Hell no. I wish.

Is it possible to place an order verbally instead of using a kiosk at this establishment?

Yes, there is STILL a counter for traditional ordering.

Do they still have outdoor seating ? And are dogs allowed outdoors?

They do have a large patio and last time we went I also was able to take my pooch in the patio area to eat with us.

Do they have gluten free buns?

I don't think the bun is... but you can ask for gluten free options. Double check tho, I'm not 100% certain.

Do they have the Field Roast vegan dog like the Chicago locations yet?

They had a plant based garden dog when I was there on Sunday May 29th.

Are the beef hot dogs kosher?

I doubt it. They don't keep kosher. They mix dairy and meat. If you're looking for a Kosher dog for the flavor, these dogs taste good even if they're not Kosher. But if you're trying to keep kosher or want kosher style, look elsewhere.… Read more

When will you be opening the dining room again? I'm not into eating in my car.?

It's already open for dinning inside.

Are the hot dogs all beef?

I believe they are all beef. I don't like hot dogs that are made with pork and can tell the difference in taste when they have pork in them. I really love these, so my guess is all beef. You can call the location and ask. I'm sure they would be able… Read more

Do you guys show all Cubs games?

I don't really see TVs inside (I would double check but i wouldn't drive 1 hour and 40 minutes just to check) but there is music.

How much is the chocolate cake shake?

    Small 3.99, large 4.99

    Do they allow dogs (pets)?

As a general rule of thumb, most food establishments do not allow pets due to health concerns. However, this location does have a large outdoor patio accessible from the front entrance which may be suitable for animals. I personally have never… Read more

The vibes are artsy, chill, and very laid back, and while we have our regular spots there are no bad seats. Staff are always friendly here, and even though it's seat yourself and menus are on the table for you to take your time with, they're always checking in and willing to answer questions. Elizabeth has been our server on multiple occasions and is always attentive and quick to help or communicate, and always says hi even if she isn't the one working with us directly. Dinner rush is usually a bit earlier in the evening as they do see a lot of older clientele, but it typically varies based on weekday vs weekend and if there's a local event happening in downtown Fullerton. The patio is large with plentiful seating, a warm fireplace, dogs are allowed, and if there's live music happening at the museum down the street you can usually hear it. Our favorites are the nachos, killer chili, Leeky soup, and any of their salads. Price is a good value, especially considering the portion size, we can usually get at least two meals out of an entree. We love trying the new dollar dip flavor every month. Cookies are made in-house and very good, an easy and affordable treat to grab on the way out. We've brought vegan and vegetarian friends here and they can always find something to eat. Highly recommend as a place to come to when you want to sit and hang out for a bit to relax and have a good meal, whether alone or with a group.

If you step through the doorway and your first thought is, gosh, there must be a college campus…read morearound here, you'd be right. Rutabegorz (pronounced like the vegetable: "ROO-tah-BAY-gorz") is a short protest march away from Cal-State Fullerton as well as Fullerton Community College here in Southern California, and is across the street from an Anglican church that looks like an old Sixties, social justice kind of house of worship. The place is actually kind of hard to find, since from the outside it looks like any other ivy-covered brick building that houses the bookstores and headshops that cling, lamprey-like, to institutions of higher learning. Inside, the décor is a funky hodge-podge, not in the calculated way that a place like TGI-Friday's is crafted, but the way you'd imagine post-hippie entrepreneurs would decorate their restaurant labor-of-love. That introduction should prepare you for the food, which is as anti-corporate as you'd imagine from the place's looks. The vegetarian dishes are numerous and hearty the way you'd expect vegetarian dishes wouldn't be, somehow filling and richly satisfying. The ratatouille is savory, the vegetarian burrito bean-y and substantial, the falafel wrap is a little dry but will sit in the pit of your stomach in a satisfying way. The hummus is a lumpy, almost cottage cheese-like interpretation of the dish which could use a little more flavor but isn't bad. The food tastes homemade, the vegetables as though they were actually, at one point in their existences, raw. The meals are as nourishing physically as a Marilynne Robinson novel is spiritually. For those who are worried, the restaurant isn't exclusively vegetarian, and although I haven't had a bunch of the meat dishes, what I have had has continued on the theme of minimally processed foods. The-Walnut-That-Kissed-The-Chicken is a nice take on the chicken salad sandwich, spread thick between two slabs of squaw bread that make it as much a mouthful to eat as it is to say, and the chicken tastes like it was actually boiled and then chopped by hand. We still live in a society driven by consumption, not even the peacenik greenie-types are unaffected, and you can tell by the size of the portions - you invariably have to take some home. Salads come in gigantic blue plastic basins that look as though the cook in the back thought about looking for a proper serving bowl and then just decided, aw to heck with it, I'll just serve the entire thing in the tub I tossed it in. Be sure to get a dessert anyway - the cheesecake is the sweet, tart, dense kind of thing that makes gaining talk-show kind of weight easy. The place also has a decent list of beers. I haven't tried the wines or the cocktails. I've been coming here on and off for a little over a quarter of a century now, I've seen all sorts of people sitting at the rickety wooden tables, from the Birkenstock crowd to sorority girls to Korean club-kids - wholesome food in giant portions appeals across sociopolitical lines.
