Seafood enchiladas are the best I have ever had here. They use real Alaskan king crab, not imitation crab like at other restaurants. The salsa is chunky and that is a good thing. We like lemons in our water and she brought a whole bowl. Impressive. read more

Guadalahonkys just doesn't get it. I went a couple of days ago after swearing it off for years. A friend of mine was talking it up and I thought maybe they had kicked it up a notch. No, they didn't. I really don't understand why it has a following. I guess if I was to sum it up in two words I would say dry and canned. I guess the best thing would be the chips and salsa which are decent but it doesn't carry the day. I love beans and rice and, here, they are completely unsatisfying. This time I tried the chili Colorado chimichanga. With a meat burrito or chimi, you don't just cram a mass of meat in the burrito and deep fry it. Not enough sauce or cheese or fresh ingredients. If you are not going to go authentic, you'd better make it great tasting cuz you've already got one strike against. Don't go to guads. Go two more minutes down the street to la hacienda. I can't believe this place is always so packed or even in business. I don't know why I keep coming here but it's finally the last time. Here's why: 1. Filthy. The table had sticky old rings of soda and when I wiped it with my own baby wipe it was black. The waiter sat and watched do this without a word. I almost took a picture to post but my hubby said no. 2. The back part where we were seated literally and strongly smells of urine. 3. Our waiter was sitting and chatting for at least 15 minutes before coming to take our order or check on us and we never saw him again until the end. No water refills. Always chatting in a corner. 4. The food was gross. Either no flavor whatsoever or overly salted and waaaaaay overpriced!!!! Each entree was over $12 and an extra $2 to add rice and beans. Ridiculous! Underwhelming. Waitress seemed exhausted and frustrated, food was bland (zero seasoning - pico de gallo is sliced tomatoes). This review is actually for "Donkey Tails" the bar on the side of the restaurant. I hear the food is good on the other side. So my review is primarily low because of the perceived low value for money spent. It was about $40 for six shots of fireball and three schteins (sp?) of Bud Light. That might not be so bad at bars in Seattle where I'm from, but since this is Utah, the shots are a measured ounce and it honestly seems like a sip of liquor. I'm going to give these guys the benefit of the doubt and give a 3 star rating. I came for lunch and had the burrito and taco special. It tasted fine, but was definitely more Tex-Mex than authentic Mexican. The ingredients seemed to have been in a can and weren't very fresh. I also thought that based on this, things were overpriced by about $1.50. It's not a bad place to eat, but I was expecting something more authentic and a bit fresher tasting. read more

Service was pretty slow at first. I had to flag someone down to take our table (we waited atleast 15 minutes before). After that the service was a little better. The rice was dry and crunchy. I never had worse Mexican food in my entire life. I'm not exaggerating. It was a miserable experience. I had what they called "crab enchiladas", they were crap enchiladas. I mean, there was ZERO flavor... except for a rancid aftertaste. The hollandaise sauce (didn't know Mexicans put hollandaise on their food) legitimately had no flavor. I was charged extra for their other sauce, which was stewed canned tomatoes. I POURED hot sauce, salt and pepper, and it still was miserable. Please don't make the same mistake. read more

I came with a big group. I'm a server myself, so I felt bad that we came an hour before close. At first I could tell my server was annoyed with us, but I sympathize with her. Once I started talking to her more and being friendly, she was one of the nicest, most funny servers. I would give a higher rating, but the food was okay. What really got me is that I got food poisoning from the chicken fajita salad. It wasn't a bad salad, it just made my boyfriend and I sick. I'm not sure if the chicken was not prepared correctly, or if the romaine itself was bad. The horchata was delicious though! ^-^ I thank them very much for the service. Clean, family-style Mexican with good service. Eaten here a few times and not had a bad experience...that said, it's the beans-and-rice-come-with-everything menu. One of my favorites is the Chili Verde, my wife likes the Chimichanga. The chips & salsa are plentiful and decent, and kitchen turnaround time is fair, not too quick where you're wondering if it's been sitting around, and not too long where you're wondering WHERE your food is. We had lunch here Labor Day 2013. Service was excellent. Our server Rochelle, did her best to take great care of us. She was prompt with refills and brought out two other chip sauces to try. (Can you say incredibly hot, but great taste?) When the sauces proved to be above my pay grade for heat, she brought, at no charge, a little Horchata to cool off my on fire tongue. The food was pretty good. I had Chili Colorado which was good. (note: is spicy, if that's not your thing, you will hate it) My wife had fajitas and the bits and pieces I could sample without getting stabbed by her fork, were pretty good. They use Zucchini in the mix and it made for some pretty good textures. If I could have divided the stars, I would have given the service a 5 and the food 3.5, so I averaged it all out to 4. read more

Don't do it! Like my dad said, the staff was nice, but the food? Not so much. The chips were basically just the ones you get at the grocery store. My mom, who is the biggest chips & salsa snob on the planet, could tell from the start that coming here wasn't the best idea. The drink glasses were big, which I thought was pretty cool at first... but then I found out that it was, like $2.50 for a soda, and I'm pretty sure that they charged for refills cuz the total came to A LOT. The food wasn't the best, and I found some weird uncooked bean of some sort in my beef taco (which did not have beans IN it in the first place). The rice was spicier than I would'vd liked too so I barely touched it. (WARNING: TMI AHEAD. PROCEED WITH CAUTION AND KNOW THAT I DON'T USUALLY YELP LIKE THIS) Long story short: If you enjoy having a nice, long sit-down at the TJ Maxx across the street, this is a great place to go first. I eat here 2-3 times per week. Having grown up in Arizona, I am picky about my Mexican food. Their chicken fajita's are awesome, the sweet pork burrito is awesome, and they have the best chips and salsa in Utah. The service has always been great! First off, this place is very, very gluten-free friendly and the service was fast. If that's important to you, bump this up to 4 stars. The food is solid, but not amazing. My only real complaint is that the pork in my dish tasted like it came from a can, but everything else about it was pretty good. On the brighter side, their complementary chips and salsa are great and they have a good selection of hot sauces. There are better Mexican places around here, but don't completely count this one out, especially if you have Celiac disease and live nearby. read more
