Stopped in to Gual Bertos after a high school football game. We were starving having traveled all day. Gual Bertos was packed with people. We ordered carne asada fries and carne asada tacos. OMG the portions were huge and the carne asada fries were legit the best I've ever had anywhere. So much meat and deliciousness. I could seriously eat these every day. The tacos were also gigantic and full of steak. The rice and beans were hot and delicious. I have traveled far and wide searching for the greatest breakfast burrito, and Guals has it. Perfect tortilla taste and size, warm potatoes and bacon, melty cheese. This is the burrito you dream about on fast Sunday. Always fast service, good price, has salsa bar with great options, not stingy with any sauces. I wish I could give an honest one star. I ordered 2 carne asada tacos and about 3 bites in, I found a hair. I didn't want to make a big deal out of it and was embarrassed to say anything for fear of ruining everyone else's dinner in my group. Our office decided we needed something filling for lunch. With this location nearby, it was the obvious choice. There is a large menu, lots of options. We opted for some nachos and a few orders of carne asada fries. Huge portions, good amount of food, very filling. The carne asada is really good, I enjoy that they are in bite sized pieces in the nachos and the fries. Lots of cheese, which is great. On another occasion I had the California burrito, the fries in there were like so-so okay, bland, soggy. But the rest was good. Little overboard on the guac. But pretty tasty. Felt a little jipped on the bean side, but I do love rice, so thanks for the extra. Quite good overall. Sometimes, it can make you a little sick, probably because of overeating haha, but people usually know that before they go. We will most likely be back again due to the proximity and the craving that hits every so often. read more

Not open 24 hours anymore, and the prices went through the roof. Those were the only real reasons to go there because the food is mediocre at best. And they mess up your order 9 times out of 10. Decided to go back today and see what else Gual Bertos had to offer, this time trying their Carne Asada Chimichanga. I have not had a chimichanga that great in YEARS! Adding the guacamole and sour cream on top with cheese was a nice touch and it was tough to choose which side to start with. After that, I've decided to update my review to 5 stars. I love this place. I'll also retract what I said about the menu being hard to see, as I apparently need new glasses, and that's not their fault. I stepped closer this time and it wasn't an issue. I'd recommend this as a place to go if you want some really great Mexican takeout without having to deal with a long line (granted I've only been during lunch hours, not dinner time), or if you just want something different than the big chains out there, but still very delicious and satisfying. Best quick drive thru Mexican food around here. They're usually pretty quick, open 24 hours, have a large menu selection and I like the texture of those tortillas used for their burritos. My top three favorites are the shrimp burrito, grilled chicken burrito and the carne asada burrito. I also enjoy their red hot sauce and the pickled carrots. We decided to come here mid June 2022 since our location in SLC had closed and we wanted good food! It was very similar, but some small differences. Red hot sauce was different - SLC's sauce was better, but pretty good too. Carne asada chips were delicious and large. The guy at the register was nice, but took a few minutes to come out to help us, even though the guy in the kitchen saw us waiting twice. They were fast and the portion size was good too. I order a side of pico to go - but they gave me salsa instead, so I had to take that back to change. Other than that, it was great! We will try the Riverton location to see how it stack up against the Draper location next. Bottom line - we will be back if we haven't found a better location - or if we are in the area. read more

This was a surprising find. We were looking for a place to sit down and relax and at first the location did not seem inviting because it was so plain but all changed when we got our food. Wow, the portions were huge. Ok but was it tasty? Yes! We did not get fancy forks (plastic), napkins or chairs but the food was delicious. This place never disappoints! Went again last night, and ordered take-out for my wife and myself and once again, we are pleased with both the dinners we brought home. My wife had the two cheese enchilada plate and two side orders of beef tacos, while I had the Pork Carnitas plate with double beans/no rice. I also brought home some salsas (the red is fairly hot so watch out!), along with some radish slices and pickled jalapenos and onions. My wife enjoyed her dinner and saved the tacos for lunch, while my carnitas were awesome. Great flavor and nice and crispy pork, and portion size was excellent. So much food that I had to save mine for a leftovers lunch here at work! I especially love the flour tortillas that are made very thin, came piping HOT, were plentiful, and tasted great dipped in that spicy red salsa that I brought home with the main courses. I have been here on two separate occasions and ordered a California burrito (carne asada burrito with French fries), something I always crave since leaving California, and I got the carne asada fries during my second visit. All the flavor is all there and tastes amazing but I have experienced on both occasions that the French fries were not all completely cooked. It wouldn't be a big deal to me if it was just a few but I had a large fraction of my fries very sad and raw. This place is very similar to what you'd expect with a Beto's or Alberto's. You question the cleanliness and provenance of ingredients, but never question the taste! The carne adobada is fantastic! The perfect level of spiciness. Burritos are cheap ($4.50) and gigantic. The fixins bar is very spartan--just a couple salsas, radishes, and some cilantro. You won't leave here hungry. I have worked down the road from Gual Bertos for 10 years and have never stopped by until today. This is a real Mexican joint. At least 1/2 of the people eating and all of the employees were Spanish speaking. The television was on a Spanish speaking channel. I asked the nice Mexican lady at the register what was best and she recommended the mixed Fajitas. They were great. I am used to getting a few little tiny tortillas for my Fajitas at other restaurants. I always have to ask for more. Gual Bertos only gave me two tortillas as well, but these things were huge. Some of the best tortillas I have had. A lot of restaurants around the valley have "homemade" tortillas, but they are always too thick for my liking. These were thin and delicious. The other nice thing was the roasted jalapenos on the counter. I highly recommend giving Gual Bertos a try. read more

The man at the drive-through window on Monday night was friendly enough. However, the carne asada burrito had several large pieces of inedible gristle. My friends and I were doing a taste test of several burritos in the area, and Gual Berto's carne asada burrito ranked dead last behind Rancheritos, Maize, Cafe Rio, Costa Vida, and Barbacoa. Decent Mexican food. Large portions. Good value for the money. Lots of calories. Greasy as hell. I frequent this place for all of the foregoing reasons and because it is very convenient to my home. It is a must that I stop here when I travel and come home from the airport. Usually very late. Always open. Like another reviewer said, the menu is very similar to other local fast casual Mexican joints like Betos, Albertos, Los Albertos, Filibertos, Rancheritos, and I'm sure another couple of variations I forgot to name. All serve the same type of no frills Mexican food in large quantities. Even though they are very similar, I have grown to prefer the Chile Verde and Adobada pork at Gual Bertos over the other "tos." Not a scientific comparison by any means but I think their pork is more tender and juicier than the others. And their sauces have just the right amount of flavor and spiciness. Look, this is not gourmet, but it is pretty darn good. Three stars only because it's not exceptional food but if you are hungry and want something tasty (and consistent as I've found; with no material gastrointestinal issues afterwards (except when you get magical fruit included in your dish)), this is the place. My favorites are the Chile Verde plate and the Pork Adobada fries. The latter is just a variation (off menu) of the carne aside fries. I find the carne asada to be a little tough and dry (but flavorful). One day I ordered the fries and had them replace the beef with the marinated adobada pork. Have not ordered carne asada since that time. I also like the fact that Gual Bertos does not charge me an extra $1 to swap pork for beef like some of the other "tos" that I have been to (Rancheritos, I'm looking at you). By the way, try not to question how you get a big ass burrito filled with meat, meat and more meat for around $5. I don't question. I just eat. Yum yum. Oh yeah, if you like football (and I mean the real futbol), there is always a game playing on the TVs here. read more

If you like your beef from a can, you have found your fast mexican food joint! Have you been to Beto's, Rancheritos, Albertos, DocBertos? OK I made that last one up! Well if you have, you have been to Gual Bertos already. Is that a bad thing.... depends on your taste in food I guess. The last Berto place I went to I swore I'd never return. I used to dig the Betos food, until I got ill from it. I tried it again, and in the end, it is just OK. AND I think it depends on the location you roll the dice with. I like to order the California burrito... it is the same from location to "berto" location. Again, for me, the price is nuts. $9.00 for a burrito plate, tasteless and runny refried beans, and a small portion of rice. Gual Berto's seems to be a tad more expensive then the cousin stores... but the quality is not necessarily better. Friends had some chicken burritos, and said they were great... and a buddy had a chimi that looked pretty good too... so maybe that will be decent for next time. All I know is my canned mean was chewey and stale. Is there such a thing as stale meat? If not, now there is. I think I spit out as much as I ate. Maybe it was an off day, I do not know... but I was just left unimpressed. If I come back, I am not going to order the plate... I'll stick to just ordering the burrito on it's own. Seems to be a better deal. Ambiance... umm, that is funny. I like the decor as far as the hole in the ceiling goes, and the old Kneaders logo tucked away nicely behind a brown bag. Will I be back? Doubt it. If in the area, I would just assume to have Del Taco or one of the other tex mex burrito joints within walking distance. If someone else is paying and drags me there... I usually get a mixed breakfast burrito and if I'm really hungry I'll get a cheese quesadilla with it. The super nachos are good, but the carne asada fries are better.
