Salted Edamame
Allayna S.

I had no idea that this spot was in Long Beach! Parking was side street parking or in a parking garage (both have to pay for). We parked side street and it was $1 per hour which i loved! We walked in and the interior was so pretty and made me immediately want to take pictures. There was a variety of seating areas, booths for 2, Taller seating booths, tables for big parties, and bar area! We were served by Nam and he was amazing!! So attentive and the sweetest ever. My friend and I both got build your own Ramen bowls where you pick your broth, spice level, and toppings which was so delicious! We also got salted edamame, corn cheese (it was soooo cheesy!), and Nam had given us dumplings with salad on the house :(!! We were so appreciative of their amazing service and their hospitality. There wasn't a big crowd of people so it wasn't noisy at all! They also had TV's with different sports games playing. We will definitely be coming back for more and to try all their other amazing dishes. Thank you Gu Ramen

1 STAR -- Extremely disappointing experience I've never felt the need to leave a review like this, but our experience here was completely unacceptable. We've been coming to this restaurant for the past 4 years, which makes this experience even more disappointing. Our server, Punpun/wikanda. She used two separate names on two different receipts, that's all ready sketchy. made what should have been a simple meal into an extremely uncomfortable and disrespectful experience. We were essentially pressured to leave a tip, and after we had finished eating, we were actually told not to come back. I have never been treated that way at a restaurant before. Tipping is supposed to be a customer's choice based on the service they receive--not something a customer should feel pressured or demanded into doing. After being loyal customers for four years, the way we were treated was incredibly disrespectful and left us feeling completely unwelcome. If a restaurant doesn't appreciate its customers, there are plenty of other places that do. I will not be returning, and based on this experience, I can no longer recommend this restaurant to friends, family, or anyone else. Very disappointing, especially considering we came in simply expecting to enjoy a meal and be treated with basic courtesy. After looking at the reviews we see others are experiencing. This is so unfortunate after all the money and years we've spent coming here . Me and my wife and family.

Very nice place! We went on a Monday evening and it was pretty quiet but service was quick! We were greeted right away and sat at an available table. Once we made our picks, our order came out quick. Basically it's a build your own ramen place ;). The mild ramen was very tasty. Broth was flavorful and the crispy tofu was good; I was also able to add an egg. The portions were also fair for the price.

Boring stuff: metered street parking or parking garage down the street. Ambience: casual bar--there are TVs for sports Good stuff: Staff is super nice and accommodating. Food is solid. Firecracker was my least favorite though. Could use some work on that particular dish. La cheese wonton and soft shell crab were my absolute favorites. Huge selection for drinks both alch/zero-proof Happy hour Monday-Thursday: 5pm-6:30pm Friday: 4pm-6:30pm

I haven't eaten inside here since before Covid. It's been forever! Back with my son & his buddy. It's nice and air conditioned, we got to pick our table and service was great! Food was yummy! My son got the spicy tuna rice bowl. Pretty good. Parent-taxed a little. My son's friend got the premium ramen Ichi w/ menma (bamboo shoot) & a "Naruto" (fish cake). The kids called it a "Naruto"... y'all can tell me if they're lying or not. SMH. Anyway, I got the premium Ni ramen on the menu and added menma & soy garlic & spicy. Got so full so fast! Couldn't finish it... Leftovers, baby! When I was little, after finishing ramen, we used to add rice to the soup. So perfect! I'm gonna steal my Sons leftover rice and eat it for dinner with the ramen broth! Thanks guys! Must try, y'all! Parking free for 2 hrs at the structure on 3rd & Pine.

I stopped by here for some ramen. This has been the best ramen i have had in a long time. I truly enjoyed it. I did feel like my tempura was bit soggy from the broth but overall it was still good the cheese on the ramen delicious. It was so filling it was so perfect. I totally recommend it there were some sauces on the side that we ordered from the menu i owe you guys the name but they were soooo gooood

Really liked that you can build your own ramen here! I went with udon noodles for mine and we also tried a bunch of appetizers. The lollipop chicken, cheese wontons, corn cheese, and fried rice were all really good. We also got a Thai tea and strawberry lemonade. Love that they have so many options beyond just ramen. Great spot to come with friends and share a bunch of dishes!

Came alone for dinner and really enjoyed the Gu Ramen. My server was very attentive and the food arrived fast. I will say, portion sizes are big so it may be best to come with others and share. Great lighting and atmosphere. Will return :)

The atmosphere was cool, not divey, but divey adjacent. Walkable form our hotel, and several others. The service was fast, and the ramen was delicious. It will be a spot we visit next time in Long Beach.

New Ramen stop for me and my husband! Best Tonkatsu I have ever tried! The Spicy edamame hit the spot! We also got a sushi roll called 805, so delicious!!

Hate it when decent food is ruined by discourteous service. Gu Ramen is one of the first restaurants my wife and I went to, after we moved to Long Beach 4 years ago. It's within walking distance, so was a bit surprised that I hadn't visited in over 3 years. My long cruise had gotten me a craving for good ramen, so decided to walk over for an early lunch. I got there about 10 minutes after it opened at 11, and was the first customer. There were two ladies working the front, and one of them greeted me immediately. I put up an index finger with a smile to show it would just be me, and was seated near the back close to the kitchen. I got a menu immediately and was asked what I wanted to drink. I told her water which came quickly. That's when it started turned janky. The server was having a rather loud conversation with the other server in a language I didn't understand. She finally came back after the other lady walked away (to work I'm assuming), to take my order. I stated what I wanted, and without any response, she just went away...wasn't sure if she got it right (but she had). About 10 minutes later, the fried rice dish came. She just put it in front of me without a word, ignored my 'thank you', and walked off. The ramen came a bit later, and same action. She did fill my empty water glass once without me asking, so I guess she was paying attention. Note I was still the only customer. The same attitude with the bill providing and credit card swiping; by this time I stopped trying to interact too. This is the time when I WANT to either just ask "What's your problem?" or more passive aggressively "Did I offend you in some way?" Decided it wasn't worth it, paid my bill, still giving a small(er) tip, and was on my way. Did notice that she was talking normally to a new customer as he was being seated. As for the food, both dishes were decent to great: the fried rice ($7.99 as addon to ramen) was great...very generous portion, cooked over very high heat to produce a delicious veggie fried rice. The tonkotsu ramen ($13.99) with added corn ($1.99) and narutomaki ($2.99) was decent (OK). Plenty of ramen noodle (so didn't need to order extra) topped with a two thick slices of well-prepared Chashu. The broth was OK too, but did give me stomach problems later (still haven't figured out what ingredient(s) cause this...but have decided that ramen and pho are worth it for me).

Soo soo sooo good, very flavorful and I love the Lollipop chicken and mini sausages!!! Great quality and I would definitely come again!

Ask the Community - Gu Ramen

Do they have gluten-free ramen?

I don't remember

Do They have dog friendly seating outside?

There was no outside seating when we went earlier this year.

Do you have a vegan/veggie broth option?

Indeed, they do! The Udon Tofu is the white, thicker wheat noodle, which is vegan. Contrary, the Ramen Tofu is the standard yellow, egg noodle that is vegetarian. Both of these options are served with a shoyu (mushroom) broth! If you're a fan of…

Is the broth made from scratch = bone broth for 24 hours OR is it a powder broth?

Gu broth is not made from powder. we use chicken and pork raw bone (femur bone) to make the broth, we simmering for more than 12hour to get a rich and creamy flavor.

I felt welcomed by the cool tones of the interior design and layout actually. We waited by the door as a party of two. Not too long after we entered were we greeted by the hosted and seated outdoors, as we requested. Even though it is on fourth street which has plenty of street traffic, it was still a quiet, comfortable dining experience. Every thing on the menu looked and sounded amazing but I planned to try the ramen because I've been craving a good bowl of ramen for a while. I landed on the shoyu ramen with tofu. I really enjoyed the taste of the broth. The flavor and seasoning was soul-healing. I don't usually go with plain chicken broth in ramen but I felt confident in my choice. I was literally happy dancing with each bite. The ramen was so good! My partner went with a spicy order of tonkotsu ramen with chicken, garlic, and black oil sauce. I tried parts of it and it was also delicious! I wanted to try the sushi but did not have that big of an appetite for both sushi and ramen so I opted for the salmon poke tacos. They tasted very savory and the salmon was flavored really well. The temperature and consistency was not too overwhelming for the tacos shell. The service was attentive and not too invasive. We took the check to the counter to pay. I am excited for our next trip here. It is dangerously walking distance for us! PS they have a sign that says they are hiring a dishwasher for Saturday and Sunday!

Food 3.75/5 Service 2/5…read moreAmbience 3/5 We popped in for a quick dinner on a Wednesday at 5:15pm. There are 8 tables for dining inside and 5 tables outside on the covered patio. We were there in time for Happy hour 4:50-7:00pm. It is 50% off on the second appetizer. We had: Naked shrimp (6 pieces) crispy tempura outer texture with a slight kick Mini chicken wings fried (6 pieces) and these were indeed mini wings Miso creamy ramen soup with pork belly While waiting for our ramen, there were 5-6 possibly drivers waiting at that time for a take out with several other take-outs happening at the same time. The restaurant is appears to be short staffed because in many restaurants offering ramen, the ramen bowls are served fairly quickly. We waited about another 25 minutes after we had finished the appetizers, then the ramen arrived. The creamy miso broth was hot and it was quite delicious with two thick slices of tender pork belly. Service observed and experienced at best was haphazard and we were not the only table that were waiting for their entrees. I rated service as low because the server asked if we were sharing and yes we were sharing. We only received one pair of chopsticks, no side plates or a second bowl. We had to request each of the items when we could get a server's attention. I understand the staff were busy but throwing the pair of chopsticks onto the table was a surprise! Overall, the best items was the Miso creamy ramen and the Naked Shrimp.

Since then, I discovered a Rakkan in Tustin (now sadly closed) but there is this one here in Belmont, Long Beach, where I work! Since I discovered this LB location, I have been here a total of 3 times. I'm usually not a ramen fan so I don't frequent ramen shop too much, so 3x at the same ramen shop is a lot for me. Overall, my experience here at this location has been above average. There were some inconsistency with the service but overall, personally for me, every time I was there we had pretty good service. The broth is still as flavorful but for some reason I think that taste I first had in Coppell, Dallas was the best for me and I haven't been able to get that here at this location. Nonetheless, I like Rakkan because it also offers pretty tasty shrimp option ramen and the convenience of having plant based broth is you can have your choice of protein and still have the same consistency of the broth! I would rather go for plant based broth ramen any time over the original one, for health and clean-eating reasons. Would def recommend you check them out at least once! I also like that they have HH portion so you can really have a taste of their appetizer and don't need to commit to full size!

We came as a party of 6 after the Long Beach Marathon, and it seemed like they were understaffed. My friend mentioned that she had received better service on a previous visit, so hopefully this was just an off day. Still, there were quite a few things that could have been handled better. They only gave us one set of banchan, which I thought was insufficient for a party of 6, especially since several of the dishes we ordered also came with banchan. We had to ask for water, and we finished our initial sides pretty quickly while waiting for our food. When we asked for refills, we had to follow up twice. One of the female servers came across as unfriendly and made us feel like we were bothering her when we asked for more banchan. She didn't even stop or look at us when she responded, "Give me a minute." The male server was friendlier, but overall, the service remained slow, even when we were trying to get our bill and check out. There were also some order mix-ups. We were served the wrong dishes twice, and my friend specifically requested no onions, but that was overlooked as well. Between the long wait, missed requests, and lack of attentiveness, the experience felt pretty disorganized. FOOD: - Rib Eye Bulgogi: came with rice and banchan. The presentation was pretty cool, with the meat served on a bed of salt that was lit on fire! It helped keep the food warm, although it did make moving the meat around a little tricky. The bulgogi itself was very tender and flavorful, and we really enjoyed it. - Pork Belly Tofu Soup: good, but I wish it had more tofu. Either there wasn't enough, or it had broken down into smaller pieces, because I was hoping for more substantial chunks. - Rose Tteokbokki: creamy and delicious; but it's definitely a dish meant for sharing Overall, we were satisfied with the food, and I thought the portions were fairly priced. Unfortunately, the slow, disorganized, and occasionally unfriendly service took away from the experience and makes me feel a little hesitant to return.

There is a small parking lot which is surprising for this area of Long Beach but take note that on the weekend it might be full! Otherwise there's street parking in the surrounding area.

Gekkeikan Sake -- 9/10 We ordered the Gekkeikan sake served cold to enjoy while we waited for our food. It was smooth, flavorful, and a fun way to start the evening. We also ordered it during happy hour, which made it even more affordable. Definitely a great option if you're looking for a refreshing drink to enjoy with your meal. Crispy Chicken -- 10/10 I ordered the five-piece Crispy Chicken, and it arrived hot, fresh, and steaming. The chicken itself was a 10/10--crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor. What really elevated the dish was the combination of the lettuce wraps and sauce. Wrapping the crispy chicken in the lettuce and adding the sauce created an amazing balance of textures and flavors. I would definitely recommend this as an appetizer. Another bonus: it was available during happy hour, which made it an even better value. Pricing is fair and the taste incredible. With a lot of ramen places, its hard to get what you pay for, but HERE, you get a lot more. Pro tip: ask for a container as soon as youre done eating so your ramen doesnt get taken away. I learned the hard way

I went to the pickup location and found out it's a ghost kitchen which I'm totally fine with. Went in and picked up my order. Inside has lockers and a window which I picked up my order from. The lady didn't say anything just looked at my order on my phone and handed it to me. It was packaged nicely and had everything I needed in the bag. It was pretty spicy yet very flavorful. Good portion of noodles which is always the one thing I run out of first with ramens. I'd definitely order again when I have a ramen craving!

A pretty good local ramen place with very kind staff! It's not where you'd go for authentic…read moreJapanese ramen but it does a great job still. I got the vegetable miso ramen with spice level 2. It wasn't too spicy but I could also do without it because it was more of a numbing rather than flavorful spice. The regular noodles are a little thin but they're plentiful! There was a part that was kind of clumped together in my soup though. The broth was more just savory and salty but nothing really stood out as miso or anything different. I appreciate that they have a fair amount of bok choy and bean sprouts. And the tofu was really good too! It was covered in tempura so was almost agedashi-like but they only did give 2 pieces. Our waiter, Hector, was helpful, kind and continually attentive so shoutout to him! Prices are reasonable for ramen too. Glad I got to try!

Cute interior for a ramen shop. Beautiful wood accents and neon signs bring the vibe to life…read more Service was great. The food is better than average. Ramen competition in LB is stiff. Cucumber salad was the only fresh/light vegetable option on the menu. Decent but nothing to write home about. Ramen had solid flavor. I like that you can pick your spice level. The pork was fatty and delicious. I wish they put less noodles. I did order the thick ones which cost a bit more but the ratio was WAYY off. My bowl was 75% noodles which didn't leave room for much soup and the fillings were lost in the mix. I had enough left overs for a full second serving - so great to share!
