    Fried artichoke hearts.

Dinner here earlier this week. One of those places if you're not necessarily looking you might pass...but ...Dont. I had the artichoke app and the pork shoulder entree. Both were very good. The artichoke might be a temporary item as I didn't see them on the on line menu. The pork shoulder was really moist but had been grilled prior to serving giving it a nice little bark on the outside. Link below for description. https://www.griffskitchenandbar.com/items/pork-shoulder?location=griffs-kitchen-and-bar&menu=food I took a pic but later deleted it as simply was too dark to really see anything. I'll post the one of the artichoke that's okay. Appears that burgers are a big deal there so have that along with the shrimp and grits entree for the future. Service was nice pace and attentive.

    $50 for 2 burgers, soda/tea and bread??

Walking in the door set way too high of an expectation. So does a 2 star review. Beautiful place, quaint decor, the 1920's style jazz music playing set a great vibe. It ended there. We came in for a late lunch, 3:00pm, and with an empty restaurant were surprised service was so slow. There was one other table, 4 people, and they were eating. We sat awhile before the server came to take our drink order then waited... and waited... and finally our drinks came; a coke for me, a sweet tea for my husband. We were more than ready to order when he brought them out of fear he wouldn't be back again. We ordered the bread with whipped butter as an "appetizer" and then a couple burgers. He took our order and said it would be about 15 minutes. I asked if the bread and butter would be out before then, He said sometimes. He then disappeared. About 5 minutes later another couple came in and like most of the other reviews say, they were served drinks, food, etc before we were. They got their entree before we got our appetizer.... bread and butter. It took 30 mins to get 3 small rolls and about 2 tbsp of whipped honey butter. 2 minutes later our entrees arrived. He set them down on the side of our table and left. My drink was empty and we both wanted mayonnaise for our burgers. We had to wait for him to come back out of the kitchen to seat someone else to flag him down to ask for a refill and mayonnaise. Then wait... He brought them and left. He checked on the other table, never came back to ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything. The fastest he delivered anything to our table was the check. $50 for 2 burgers and fries, 2 drinks, and bread and butter. To say they are overpriced is an understatement! The food was decent at best. My burger was cooked to temperature correctly was the best I can say. If you arent going to have salt and pepper on the table then you should make sure your food is seasoned properly, they did not. We were afraid that even if we could find him to ask for salt and pepper we'd be eating cold food. It was room temperature at best to begin with. Everything was slow it made me wonder if he was back there cooking, but one would expect him to have more of a hustle about him. The check was dropped off at the table with a QR code at the top of the check to pay. Atleast we assumed as he never came back. Save yourself time and money, go somewhere else.

    The most beautiful burger ever.

Griff's, although there is no "Griff", is a true gem. Chris at the bar will tickle your palate with innovative and amazing creations. He is a true renaissance bartender, I mean, this guy has a brandy Alexander on the menu. I kid you not. And it won't make you blind... Ian, the owner/chef, will astound you with upscale comfort food that won't break the bank. The burger pictured was curated with an addition of kimchi and jalapeños, mind you, which may have added to the height and girth, but it was cooked perfectly and seasoned exquisitely. Remember French fries? When they were sliced potatoes that hadn't been mashed and formed nor frozen and doctored? They have those. And they are glorious. Not pictures were the shrimp buns and pork belly buns. Lordy they were so good I couldn't get a picture before we hoovered them down. Go soon. Go often. Nothing comes close in miles and miles. We will be back!

Cheeseburger and fries at Griff's in Enka, NC
    Lan S.

Our small group (three couples) recently had dinner at Griff's and really enjoyed it. We had done take out from Griff's before but eaten there before. I think each of us had an appetizer and main, or perhaps two small plates/salads. Service was very good. I know I really enjoyed my classic burger with fries, and the price ($14) wasn't bad. Although I usually prefer a double patty smash burger, Griff's single patty cheeseburger was excellent, and cooked medium to my exact order. Fries were top-notch, too. Several people at our table had salads, which were enjoyed, and the starter portion of short ribs was quite large, enough for an entree. Drinks and wines were generous pours, though not inexpensive. However, overall the pricing (in these expensive times) was fair. I think the full meal for my wife and me, with a total of one beer and one cocktail, was around $75 before tip. My only markdown would be on the noise level. On a Thursday night, the small restaurant was fairly busy but not full, yet the noise level due to the lack of sound baffles or plants was pretty loud. I often couldn't hear the conversation at the other end of the table. Parking, next to what for many decades was the Enka post office, is great. We'll be back, especially for the burger.

What a great road trip stop! Everyone loved their food which seemed seasonal and fresh! The server was patient with our kids. There was a nice balance of open space and cute decor and the bathroom was clean. There was something for everyone- pescatarian and gluten free too! The temperance drink menu was on point.

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.

The atmosphere is cozy, low-lit, and perfect for date night, a celebration, or honestly just when you want a really good meal with phenomenal service. It's not huge, and judging by how packed it was when we arrived, I'd definitely recommend reservations. We had one of the later seating times near closing, but the place was still buzzing. There's even a second room with a gorgeous long bar that gives off upscale neighborhood hangout vibes. Service was flawless from the start. We were seated immediately and had water in our glasses within minutes. Our waitress was friendly, attentive, and somehow had us in and out in about 40 minutes without ever making us feel rushed. That's an art form. Drink-wise, my boyfriend was happy to find some local beers after our brewery-hopping adventure earlier in the day. I ordered a cocktail that sounded good and asked if they could make it spicy... maybe throw in some jalapeños or something. They didn't just accommodate, they elevated. They swapped in a spicy-infused spirit, and it paired perfectly with my wood-fired roasted corn pizza topped with cilantro and jalapeño crema. Absolute flavor bomb that paired perfectly! My boyfriend's meatloaf with mushrooms and mashed potatoes was equally impressive. No notes, just clean plates. We started with the ceviche, and it was outstanding. Fresh, bright, and so flavorful that we started dipping our homemade pita into it. Speaking of the pita, that was honestly my only minor miss (and it wasn't even a miss lol). As a carb enthusiast, I wanted a little more salt and flavor, but that's nitpicking in what was otherwise an exceptional meal. Hearth & Herron is the kind of place every small town wishes it had. Thoughtful food, top-notch service, and an atmosphere that punches way above its weight class. We'll absolutely be back the next time we're in Hendersonville and recommend you do the same!

I got an extra side of dressing but the taste was a bit off and didn't really help. 1.5/5 stars there. Lots of good choices in the menu. One person ordered a burger with fries and another got the figgy piggy pizza. All agreed it was at least 4/5 good.
