We had never tried here and had heard the food was good. We can say the food was indeed good but that was about the only thing good with our experience. We arrived around 6:15pm was seated and ordered and did not receive our food until after 7:30pm over an hour wait for food. My husband ordered the fish sandwich with no tartar sauce as he is allergic to eggs. The fish sandwich arrives with tartar sauce We send it back 2 minutes later our waiter comes back and says it's not tartar sauce it's mayonnaise. I say he can't have that either he is allergic. The waiter said we should have ordered it without mayonnaise than. No where on the menu did it say it came with mayonnaise. Those of you with food allergies beware they don't list all the ingredients on their menu. I doubt we will be back. read more

I got 2 scrambled eggs with pancakes (small up charge for real maple syrup expected) and added grits. Drank ice water. Came in at $17.09. You can choose to gussy up your pancakes but I went straight. They were fluffy and tasted fine. I probably prefer a whole grain like Early Girl Eatery used to serve. But this was standard and still very good. A really good size. Added white American cheese to the eggs. Again, standard & good. Nothing to say they were outstanding but still tasty. The local stoneground grits however were amazing. I typically add sweet to mine but these had so much flavor there was no need. The menu is extensive. I've never heard anyone complain about anything here so I'd imagine that lunch & dinner are equally as well executed. All in all you're getting a healthier version of an all American place -- with a touch of Italian, Greek & Mexican influences just like a good American old school Restaraunt would do. Cornerstone was a choice I found on Yelp and it was excellent! The location was easy to find and it wasn't overly crowded. The menu was easy to navigate. The omelettes were amazing the ingredients were fresh like out of a garden not a can. The pancakes were thick and very filling. We went back to try dinner. I ordered flounder and popcorn shrimp while my fiancé ordered ribs. We both had mac and cheese, and he had regular fries while I tried the sweet potato fries. My fish was good. The breading kept falling off though, and the arugula underneath was a nuisance if anything. Popcorn shrimp was tasty, too. Loved the sweet potato fries. My mac and cheese was the corner scrape with burnt, dry pieces of cheese everywhere. Wasn't edible. But my fiancé had creamier less burnt mac and cheese, so I tried his. Ribs weren't the best so won't be getting that again but will return to try more of their menu. We had a newer waitress but she was nice and helpful. read more

I have eaten at their "sister" restaurant Stoneridge Tavern several times and have been happy, and so decided to drive over to Cornerstone and try them. They are easier to get to than I thought, right off the freeway exit, good location. It was a weeknight, so they were not crowded. Service was quick, pleasant and efficient. My wife had the Reuben sandwich, I had the stuffed flounder. Both dinners were good, my creole sauce could have stood a bit more heat. We both had their fries, and WOW! Maybe the best fries I've ever had, crisp and golden outside, very light and fluffy inside. Will definitely eat there again. read more

I went to Asheville to volunteer after the storm hit, and ended up coming here with my group for dinner three nights in a row. Worth it every time! The first night, I got the fish and chips with roasted Brussels sprouts side, which I got the next night, too. They were perfectly cooked! I was impressed that even with the challenges of post-storm clean up and non-potable water, they still had amazing food. Everything was on disposable plates but they still managed to make it look elegant and indulgent. I was bummed to not be able to try their breakfast, I heard from multiple people that their homemade biscuits and gravy are to die for. The owner/manager came to talk with us each time we were there and thanked us for volunteering, which was such a kind gesture. He told us they're a family business and have been open for 30 years. We had breakfast while in Asheville at this awesome bustling diner. It is larger than you think inside and has a full bar. One section had a fireplace. The portions were huge and I was like no way can I eat all this but with hubbies help we made a big dent. I ordered the chicken Benedict with home fries--the potatoes took up half the plate and I ate 80% of them. The Benedict was poached eggs on biscuits with two HUGE pieces of boneless fried chicken on the side. Oh soooo good!!! Hub ordered a pecan pancake and biscuits with gravy which he demolished. We haven't been that full in a long time, but it was too good to waste and we were traveling so couldn't save anything. Highly recommend! It was clean, plenty of parking on a Monday morning. The service was ok, I think our waitress was also serving tables in back as we had to flag down other staff twice to find her ... once for water and once for the bill. Just a short hike from our hotel, we decided to stop here for breakfast to start our Anniversary Grub Crawl off right. It being such a lovely morning, we opted to sit on the patio- fair warning, there's almost no breakfast seating in the shade, but it should be fine by supper time. They seated us immediately, and within minutes we had our drinks and were eagerly awaiting our breakfasts. My Bride got a cup of coffee and the Porkchops and Eggs breakfast. She expected a couple of little chunks of chop. What she got was two full-sized, expertly grilled, center-cut chops, a pile of scrambled eggs, home fries, and a big ol' cat head biscuit. She gave me half of the biscuit, and I almost swore off making my own. I ordered a large grapefruit juice (pink, unfortunately- white is superior. My unpopular hot take) and the Meatloaf Hash. It's a massive portion of potatoes and chunks of delicious meatloaf, smothered with grilled bell peppers, spinach, and mozzarella cheese, and topped with two eggs, which I got over easy. It was a marvelous blending of flavours and textures, and I'm a better person for having eaten it. We may have ruined our plan to eat our way across Asheville, because we probably won't be hungry again until tomorrow. But now I know where we'll be coming for breakfast once we have room for it! This astonishing repast, a fantastic start to the day, came to $37.41 tax included, before tip. EDITED: we have, indeed, come back today. Bride got the Meatloaf Hash I had yesterday, while I opted for the Smoked Sausage and Eggs- a big ol'hunk of smoked sausage, butterflied and grilled, a mound of delicious scrambled eggs with a little cheese on, a bowl of fantastically creamy stone-ground grits, and a big ol' biscuit. BUT our server this morning mentioned that they had some homemade fig jam... sweet mother of pearl, that was good stuff! With a pair of coffees, breakfast was $35.26 including tax, before tip. Was visiting Asheville for a couple days and found this location for breakfast. We actually ate two mornings and they were busy each morning. Staff is friendly and we were seated immediately. The menu has your regular breakfast choices of omelets, pancakes, eggs and breakfast meats as well as some specialty dishes. My wife ordered a omelet which came with their home fries. The omelet was described as a two egg but came out looking like a three egg and loaded with ingredients. And the home fries were overflowing plate. My wife enjoyed her meal although she could not finish it. I ordered the brioche french toast with blueberry compote. It came with a creamy cheese between slices and a good portion of whip cream on side. My plate was delicious. All this meal was served quickly, with a smile and at a reasonable price. As usual when we go on trips, my wife does research to find new places for us to try. She found Cornerstone for breakfast and we decided to check it out. We arrived about 10:30am the day after Thanksgiving after a relaxing morning and a quick stop at Starbucks. The parking lot we initially entered on the lower side was full but we were able to find a spot easily on the upper side of the building. There were quite a few people waiting when we arrived but we put our name on the list and waited while keeping an eye on the counter seating which we confirmed was first come, first serve. Tables were turning pretty quickly and we were seated in less than 10 minutes which was a surprise. We were provided menus and our drink orders were taken. We perused the menu and Meredith stopped back in and we placed our orders. My wife chose the Carnivore omelet with a biscuit and gravy on the side and I picked the Country Fried Steak with home fries and a side of rye toast. Our meals arrived in a timely fashion and looked really good. My wife's omelet had a generous amount of meats both on top and inside the omelette. My chicken fried steak was smothered in gravy was pretty tasty also. I enjoyed dipping the rye toast in the sausage gravy as well. The home fries could have been browned more. They were more like a broken up baked potato and not crispy like I prefer. My wife really enjoyed her biscuit with blackberry jelly as well. Cornerstone is an unsung jewel in the Asheville's restaurant crown. Great folks, a great remodel/upgrade, and great food are the hallmarks of this historic local establishment. It was once a Shoney's, back in the day, and one of the managers, as well as a clever architectural tribute above the kitchen, bear testament to this. Breakfast is my favorite meal here - the Greek Omelette, the blackberry stuffed French toast, and the huevos rancheros are standouts in a varied and high-quality line-up.
